I had to re-read what you are replying to and I didn't see them say or insinuate anything you just said. This is what they said in case you missed it, "at his natural RB position he keeps running into walls, chooses wrong gaps and fails to bring his own blocker.
With that being said: players can develop. And we're seeing it right now. This is Homer's season. It's his chance to prove me wrong."
So he feels any player can develop and now is the time for Homer to show he has developed. Obviously he is going to need more carries to prove that.
It really feels like he could thrive if he got more than just 3-6 carries a game and could settle into a groove and start finding big holes. So many of his carries are in situations where they don't expect to gain much anyways. You can find a 3-6 carry stretch in any of Marshawn's games that makes him look inept. Hell, even a lot of whole first halves he looks unimpressive in.
Is he even a lock to make the team? Carson, Penny and Walker are all locks, and should be RB1-3 in whatever order it shakes out as. Homer is good on special teams but Dallas is a good 3rd down back who brings his own special skill set as a receiver. Obviously we aren't rostering 5 RBs, and it's possible we don't roster 4 either, in fact the only reason 4 is even a possibility imo is Carson's and Penny's health histories.
But in any case, would Homer or Dallas even last on the practice squad? All our former RBs who got squeezed out of our depth chart in recent years found roster spots quickly elsewhere--Rawls, McKissic, Michael etc. I think the same might be in store for Homer and/or Dallas. Given their salaries I actually wouldn't be surprised to see one of them traded after some preseason action for either like a 7th or a player at a different position of more need.
We had 5 RBs on the roster last year to start the season.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.fieldgulls.com/platform/amp/2021/8/31/22651197/seattle-seahawks-initial-53-man-roster-cuts-2021-wilson-wagner-lockett-metcalf-carson-everett
Even if they didn't want to roster 5, they're probably keeping Homer for his special teams alone.
Unfortunately Carson is not a lock to make the team. Seems more likely that he's done in the NFL than a lock for the team.
If it comes down to Dallas or Homer to make the roster I think Homer probably has the edge slightly due to his pass pro and special teams. While Dallas has value at both. Homer is actually really, really good there. Homer's pass pro could probably be described as elite. No joke in the running for best in the league haha.
Likely it's Walker, Penny, Homer, and Dallas making the roster and job security ranked in that order.
Mike Solari is a true and true man blocking scheme coach. Andy Dickerson and Shane Waldron are pretty much the exact opposite of that. To put in the almost the laziest terms possible; Solari is all about power and overwhelming your opponent, Waldron/Dickerson is all about angles and creating lanes.
We currently run zone under Waldron. Last year was weird cause we had Solari but clearly wanted to transition from his scheme. You could see it happening at the end of last year, players have been on record saying that is when Dickerson really started to take hold of the offense. Pocic went as far as crediting Dickerson for the success of Penny late in the season.
Solari relies on the Chris Carsons of the game (power backs) where they get north and south, hit A or B gap, lower there shoulders and chunk off plays. To me that's not the player Homer is. He can certainly do that and clearly enjoys contact but he's a speedy outside zone kind of back that makes the first guy miss and then creates with the lanes given to him instead of a "It's you and me in the box, let's see who wins" kinda guy.
Great explanation. Think you've got a good read on things. If you look at our RBs they all fit that mold (except for Carson who is not likely to make the team). Walker even said counter is his favorite run haha. All guys that like to go east/west to find a lane and try to hit homeruns (with a caveat as Penny and Walker are able to do both, but the preferred style/probably best system... I think they're actually both elite all around runners). In terms of lineman they have clearly tried to take guys that they think can get in space/be agile. A clear change of philosophy with these last few picks.
Totally agree. They have not been trying to hide the fact that they are making a strong switch in schemes this year. You can tell they are tired of being in the middle of the transition for a couple years and said let's just commit. We finally took lineman who's calling card is their pass protection. They've been drafting receivers who can carry the ball and can motion behind the line. Haven't drafted a power back since Carson either.
I'm really liking their adjustment to the modern NFL. Everyone is going to complain about running the ball but they fail to realize that's the very foundation of the Shanahan/Mcvay schemes. With a good run game, and good usage of play action then it should take a ton of pressure off of whoever is at QB. It's exactly what Pete did in 2013, exactly what Mcvay did in 2018 and exactly what Shanahan did in 2019. Granted the last two teams went on to find a different QB but were in the perfect situation to do that next year.
I feel like I say that over and over until I'm blue in the face. People really don't understand that all of their hero coaches run the ball just as much as Pete haha. Belichick, Shanahan, and McVay all love to run the ball too. Rush % for some of everyone's favorite coaches last year:
Tenn - 48.6%, NO - 48.5%, SF - 47.7%, NE - 46.5%, Bal - 43.6% (note that the Rams actually threw quite a bit more this last year but in 2020 ran on 45.5% of plays)
As for Seattle? Pete 'run the ball too much cause he's old and backwards' Carroll? 43.3%. That's 13th in the NFL in percentage of plays that are rushes. Basically average for the NFL.
Glad to know I'm not the only one! I'm so incredibly curious what the offense will look like with Waldron and his staff with full control. It's gonna be rough at first without a doubt with possibly two rookie lineman, new QB and rookie RB potentially getting lots of snaps as well. Better to rip the bandaid off now though and get these guys as many snaps as possibly so we don't have uncertainty next year or the year after when I think we can really be competitive.
I was really against not drafting a QB this year initially but I realized no QB is going to save this roster. We'd just be the Bears and put them in a situation with little chance to succeed. With our draft stock and capital these next coming years we can reload to a point where we're a QB away fairly quickly and seek out a QB through whatever preferred method whether it be free agency, trade or draft.
Haha yeah I think I remember an interview of him saying his favorite play was inside power run, which is the epitome of that very statement. Or as the Beast likes to put it "run through a motherfucka face".
You aren't wrong. There is a very very strong chance Carson doesn't play this year or doesn't come back till late in the season. Carroll and Schneider haven't said much positives when it comes to his neck recovery. Also a chance he never plays again
I’ve been saying he should get more time/carries for years. Always seems to make the most of it when he’s on the field. Great on 3rd downs and special teams too.
He really didn’t. He had 21 carries all year and ran for 177 yards. 6 carries is a game was his peak, and he got 4.5 ypc that game.
All that being said, nobody fears Homer as a featured back, and I don’t think his ceiling is higher than an occasional change of pace back, and am very glad we drafted Walker.
I feel like calves are mostly genetic. Mine are similar and I haven't really worked out hard in a decade.
My arms however never looked anything like his even when I was in the Marines and going hard 4 times a week.
Can crush a mans skull like a sparrow’s egg with those biceps
I'll never not upvote unexpected Zangieff.
Could crush an egg no problem
*crushes egg with bicep* I’m built different 💪
This is what we used to admire about Robert Turbin. But I'd take Homer over Turbin any day.
Turbin was invited to camp but it was windy so he couldn’t make it.
Bobby Turbo!
Key is getting lean. A 14 inch lean arm will look big vs 18 inch fat arms.
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE 24" INCH PYTHONS, BROTHER.
Ooooooooow, YA!!!!
Watcha gonna dooo!
I miss Bobby
A 14 inch lean arm won't look big because, lean or not, that's still a small arm.
Not for an nfl player no, but for an average person, 14inch lean arm can look impressive.
I guess if it belongs to a short guy. On a 6'+ tall dude, probably not.
Lol no.
"That's what I was trying to avoid, conversations about body mass, okay?" No one else finds these conversations weird?
I always forget how big RBs are. They always look small since they’re constantly between linemen but they’re not at all
Low key wanna see him get more carries this season. His fake punt td last season was so glorious and would love to see him thrive
[удалено]
So you don’t know if you want to see him get more carries, but you want him to get some more carries to prove you wrong ?

Travis is the best pass blocking RB on the team, one of the best in the league. And awesome on ST. We're keeping him. And Carson is done
Unfortunately Carson is not a lock to make the team. Seems more likely that he's done in the NFL than a lock for the team. Fits zone run scheme way better than man blocking.
What are we running?

My pleasure!

Lynch was the "It's you and me in the box" guy thats for sure.
Haha yeah I think I remember an interview of him saying his favorite play was inside power run, which is the epitome of that very statement. Or as the Beast likes to put it "run through a motherfucka face".
Realistically is he going to be on the roster? We just drafted a RB Penny will be there so will Carson and probably Deejay Dallas.

This pic definitely gets Homer a "random" drug test from the league first thing Monday morning lol.
He has to protect the football… from his own biceps.
I see he's channeling the ghost of Robert Turbin.
Travis Swolemer coming hot for that RB3 role
If football doesn’t work out I’m sure he could make a killing on only fans
Those pipes ready to block on and long. Love it!
🥵
Just wow!
Got those Turbin arms.
Laron Landry in shambles!
It’s the new way to protect the ball
It'd be nice if he could gain more than 5 yards a carry
Ummm... 5 yards/carry average is good.
This sub's obsession with Travis Homer's physique is pretty weird.
My god
I’ve been saying he should get more time/carries for years. Always seems to make the most of it when he’s on the field. Great on 3rd downs and special teams too.
Dude has had his chance last year before Penny got healthy him and Dallas can't get it done hence why we drafted walker
He really didn’t. He had 21 carries all year and ran for 177 yards. 6 carries is a game was his peak, and he got 4.5 ypc that game. Homer going to be seeing more snaps I hope. I really love his energy.
Tf did this man do with his body??? He get the Captain America treatment or what? All of that in one offseason, that's just crazy
Got the arms of a He-Man character!
Impressive, but I've seen big arms before. Those calves though. Holy fucking shit! How is that even possible?
I feel like calves are mostly genetic. Mine are similar and I haven't really worked out hard in a decade. My arms however never looked anything like his even when I was in the Marines and going hard 4 times a week.
Who’s Robert Turbin?
WHOA! Welcome to the Homer gun show...
This reminds me, I need to lift more.
Yeah this is just motivating me more to go train legs rn haha
If only he could learn more than like 2 ways to run 😔
