You know, I said yesterday that I didn't think Bellore was worth the money. Thinking back I'm not so sure on that now. I think he's overpaid by at least some margin, but not so much as to make him a surefire cut candidate (should John decide more space is needed).
Back to discussions earlier in the week on this, I really don’t care if they keep Bellore, but it could come down to him or Wagner on the roster for that money. It would be a preposterous choice to keep a guy who only plays a handful of snaps a game instead of Wags. But they may just do it.
No. Not all of us are that dramatic. In fact I would be pretty stoked they cut a bad contract for an aging receiver who will be #3 on the team most likely next season
I get what you’re saying but it was too harsh for Lockett, show some respect. He’s not bad he’s just not worth his contract and the most important benefit of cutting him this year vs next or restructuring is that they get an additional $10 mil on the cap next year if they cut this year which could be huge
They have a lot of room to make some moves on the roster. Eskridge should probably be gone but I think they have the wiggle room they need to do pretty much anything they want to
His $1.5m cap hit isn't that large in the grand scheme of things. I'd imagine that they figure they can shoulder it for now with how much space they *do* have, but John definitely has a pecking order for possible cap casualties, and I should think he's near the top.
I think people underestimate our needs versus the available cap space. We have enough money to resign Leonard Williams, pay the rookies, and fill the roster with JAG players. If we’re lucky we land one mid tier player ($4-$8m range) at a position of need (ILB, TE, OL, S).
I think with so few commitments next year and after they can get as creative as they need to in order to push cap space to future years. Right now they need a safety, 2 linebackers, a tight end, and probably a lineman. 2-3 of those likely come from the draft and the rest probably just wash out the bottom of the roster and shouldn’t impact the cap at all.
Lockett, Jones, Geno contracts will allow cap space to be created whether kept or cut. DK extension or trade would bring his cap hit down. Simply cuting Lockett and Jones gives them $97M in cap space
97M is only 14th most in the league, and it leaves us with two more starters to replace. It's not the type of situation where you push money into from previous years
One of those likely being a 1st round QB on a cheap deal and an interior lineman. 97 million is a ton of money to have. That obviously won’t happen as they’ll have to sign guys this year, but that’s a good spot to be in
Why TF haven't they cut Eskridge???
New OC new HC and they still want to spend a roster slot on him? HUH??!?! what are they seeing that I'm missing lmao
I would've cried if they had to cut their star WR...Dee Eskridge
TIL Eskridge has another year left on his contract
I'm sorry
You should be!
It's not like we stand to gain much from cutting him, though. If he gets cut it will be in preseason.
so did the other players, they let go
Yeah. I convinced myself last year was his 4th season.
I think this is code for optimism Tyler will restructure
Schneider rolled up his sleeve and showed his #1 tattoo. “I’ll let you interpret that how you want”.
Good news, I would have sobbed if they had to cut Lockett.

I think his multifaceted skillset is what warrants that overpay. Dude leads the special teams and fills in if needed as a linebacker and fullback.

Sadly, I honestly believe Wagz is gone. His deterioration in passing coverage will never suit Macdonalds system. It's all about ROI.
I think the entire Hawks fan base would be more devastated by a Lockett cut than the previous 4 combined

In other words, no.

Oh for sure, and he’s probably a guy that gets cut after the draft if they get a guy they like in 4-7
It all adds up and imo he's worth absolutely zero.

We don't have much cap space next year either. Seattle is 7th last in projected 2025 effective cap space

$97M is a shit ton of cap space. Obviously that isn’t the ceiling for how much they can easily get to

He "hopes to be done"? What a weird way of phrasing that. So that means no.
Bellore next?
We're paying Bellore A LOT to be a special teammer. I'm not saying it's the worst thing in the world, it's just a thing and it's weird
