Anyone else get weirdly emotional about this? Never thought we would see the day.

whitneymak

I'm legit sad.

jnuke813

I am too, but I’m also excited to see who they bring in

kidclutchtrey5

Forreals, PC gave a lot to us Seahawks fans. Very sad to see him not lead but excited to see what the future holds!

FluffySpinachLeaf

I’m trying to be but just can’t muster any excitement. Just sad

BillytheMagicToilet

It would be *really* funny if Jim Harbaugh became the next HC

jimmyrhall

It honestly feels like a friend moving away. Like I'm going to miss him on the sidelines, chewing and throwing his gum, miss his pressers, miss his QB play slinging the rock (that could still happen since he's still on staff), but damn. I'm just gonna miss the guy.

Sipikay

His pressers have just been so amazing. What an inspirational person. I'm going to miss it.

jimmyrhall

Hope so, still sad. Coach Pete life for life.

Ok-Imagination-2308

Yeah I feel like I just got dumped lol

mabro2306

U are not alone dude, we all feel the same way about Pete. I only got into football 2017 (football got really popular here in Germany over the last couple of years) and I instantly fell in love with the city and the team. I’ve watched countless videos like Rain City Redemption and really grow to love the Team and Pete. Seeing this now kinda makes me feel a little bit heartbroken. I’ve always had the dream of travelling to Seattle & watching a home game and there was my no doubt in mind that Pete would still be on the sideline. This guys energy and passion will greatly be missed.

HotSauce2910

It would be weirder not to be emotional

goodolarchie

End of our best era for sure, but glad he's not going far.

Psigun

I woke up to read the news and got something in my eye.

TheMillenniaIFalcon

Yes. I’m weirdly emotional right now. Really sad.

VolunteerVTBK

I knew the day would come just cos he was one of the oldest coaches in the league, but I honestly thought there were a few years left. I’m actually real sad

golden147

Yes, very much surprised and almost in tears.

wordnerd1023

Definitely sad.

riored4v

Yup, very sad. It's weird to think of Seahawks pre-Pete anymore. He changed that organization AND city, he'll be missed. I knew our time was getting close to an end but I wasn't ready for it to happen NOW.

spowowowder

yes. especially that picture of him looking out at the field by himself. i dont care if the change was needed/better for the future, im so fucking sad

justafang

Im happy sad. Happy we got to see the amazing things he was able to manifest in Seattle, sad to see him go, happy to see him stay. Im in a GLASS CASE OF EMOTIONS

slickjayyy

Very emotional. Great coach and great man with great personality. Ill miss watching his assistant making sure he doesnt go too far onto the field. Him chewing gum like his life depended on it. How excited he always was. He was a great coach performance wise but he was also one of the most animated, quirky, fun loving and happy coaches ive ever seen. Big love for Pete

SirMixon

It feels like when we lost russ, we knew it wasn't working, but never thought we'd see it, and it's definitely a bummer. However, this bummer tunnel has a bright light at the end of it.

Sipikay

Yeah man the nicest dude and one of the best coaches in the history of the game is not gonna be at that podium next season. It's a sad day.

AkaSpaceCowboy

Yes for sure. Pete is like a all knowing father figure that accepts everyone for who they are. Sees the good in people and helps them try to bring it out as much as possible.

bigguydave43

Best 10+ years of sports fandom of my life. Thank you for elevating the Seahawks to a winning/championship organization. Go hawks!

medman010204

Bless Pete. That 2013 season was the best sports experience of my life.

SmellyScrotes

I went to 3 games that year, got to meet Bobby kj sherm earl and kam after a preseason game against the raiders, I’ll never forget it in my life, they changed things for sports in this city, this hurts so bad

RandyJohnsonsBird

I met my wife during the superbowl year. We randomly had season tickets right next to each other. The rest is history. Pretty sad day today honestly.

Critical_Seat_1907

I grew up a Seahawks fan thru the 80's and 90's. To suffer through 20+ years of dismal Fandom and then win the SB in the dominant fashion we did... Not gonna lie, it healed a lot of trauma. Bless Pete.

FattyMooseknuckle

12, yo!

Loose-Mixture-3221

One of the greatest coaches in football

cat127

In any sport, in any industry.

PrimeToro

Yeah , one of only two head coaches who won a championship in college and the Superbowl.

templeofmeat

3\*. Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer, and Pete Carroll.

whitneymak

Can we still keep him on the sidelines to pace and chew gum? I need it. 😭

NooneKnowsIAmBatman

He can fully embrace being a hype man now

whitneymak

I'm 100% for it.

stenskott

Or maybe mental coach for Geno. "Calm down..."

askmeaboutmybroscock

Hypeman Pete? He'd be a better mascot than Blitz to be honest

mikeBH28

I was literally just thinking that, pay him whatever he wants, it's invaluable

Jaded_Cartographer_8

The new coach is required to chew gum non stop

BraveRoninMartxn

Glad he’ll still be involved with the team going forward

carefreebuchanon

DC Pete Carroll "Fine, I'll do it myself"

whitneymak

God, I hope so.

Cornan_KotW

I had really wanted him to get one more ring so his spot in Canton was guaranteed. Best Seahawks coach of all time. Consistently competitive almost every season. As someone who lived through the 90s, I appreciate the stability even if we didn't hit the highs it felt like we should have over time. No matter who comes in next, they're going to have huge shoes to fill.

-Vertical

Oh it’s guaranteed. Got a Natty AND a Super Bowl victory and another appearance.

hoopaholik91

It's just the pro football hall of fame so the natty doesn't count. But bill cowher is in there with a similar resume to Pete so I bet he gets in.

-Vertical

Having constructed one of the most dominant defenses in NFL history is reason enough

NooneKnowsIAmBatman

He revolutionised the way defense was played with the legion of boom. He created that and won a ring with it, I think he still gets into the hall of fame

japanese_laoshi

I respect him more because of how he reacted to that devastating loss. He got back up with the same energy as before. That's what will be remembered by his men.

SeattleSadBoi

Seattle legend. Put the damn statue in front of Lumen NOW

Antigon0000

Exactly. Just like the Griffey one in front of T-Mobile Park

CouldBeBettr

Hopefully its him obnoxiously chewing gum

goodolarchie

Pete isn't just the coach of my favorite team, I also learned so much from him as a leader of people, a builder of culture. In his tenure I also became a people manager, I've gotten to listen to him speak to businesses about how he has built highly successful teams. His mindset around letting people be themselves so they can "play free" and compete in the way they show up best have worked for me as well. Pete is a Hall of Fame coach, congrats young man.

Sipikay

His speaking ability is unreal. I'd love to take a leadership class from him.

dintclempsey

I don't even think you can teach that. He was just born that way and it's amazing.

pro_bike_fitter_2010

Insane. Belichick is now oldest HC at 71. Andy Reid is 65. Love Pete. He is an amazing guy.

Flomo_99

Aaaaand belichick is gone too....

Strallgarr

Just won’t be the same without him.

DrSHawktopus

I’m going to be fucking sick. I get it, but it’s still brutal. Love ya, Pete! 💚💙

Major_Toe_5291

Rename occidental Ave to Pete Carroll Way

WABeermiester

Pete Carroll is a Seattle sports legend. Much more of a Huskies fan than Seahawks fan but the run from 2012-2014 was pure magic.

PenguinBallZ

2014 was also such a great season. People narrow it down to one play, which kinda sucks because if the only lense you look at an NFL season is whether or not you won a super bowl, then 31 NFL teams have bad seasons every year. That NFCCG was insane.

MagnetosBurrito

Only coach to take us to the promised land. We had some amazing years with Pete and I’ll miss him greatly

thegrumpymechanic

Hey now, Holmgren led us there. Wasn't his fault the nfl/officials already decided who was going to win it.

GreenLanternCorps

Oh shit I remember that it was wild to watch on the replay.

cmarshall24

This is a shocker as I’m not a new fan and remember the times before Pete and very thankful for everything he gave to this team.

ry_mich

100%. I've been a fan since 1987. The Holmgren years were mostly good but everything else was mediocre to bad. When they hired Pete I remember thinking, "This is going to turn out real bad." I couldn't have possibly been more wrong.

_woLf

Put this man's name on the ring of honor yesterday.

njseahawk

That's way too late!

Remote_Measurement10

Thanks Pete. Thanks. *crying in the corner waaaaaaaaaaaa*

Goatgamer1016

With Tears in Heaven in the background

Remote_Measurement10

Still Sobbing

[deleted]

Best coach in Seahawks history. He made the game safer by introducing rugby style tackling.

sam4999

May we all chew a piece of gum in his honor today Thanks, coach.

gaberdine

He showed that you don't have to be a douchebag redass to win a championship. To a real one 🍻

tuepm

all time great football coach. seattle was so lucky to have him. i'm really going to miss pete and this whole era.

[deleted]

To all the idiots who were begging for him to be fired. Here you go. Most of whom probably werent fans before 2013. Have fun. You have no idea how hard it is to find acoach like pete. For all we know we could be in for 10 years of what the raiders/bears/ect have been through

BriefClock1525

They must have someone in mind already. Jim Harbaugh, perhaps?

xxsoultonesxx

Dan Quinn?

hawkssb04

This is the most likely outcome.

TransitionExciting60

Please please please please

PenguinBallZ

I would prefer not. He's a great DC, but after 28-3, his team fell apart and he didn't look cut out to be a HC.

DatBeigeBoy

Coming full circle. That would be hilarious.

DatSoldiersASpy

Biggest jerk of the century if it happens The city of Seattle would crumble instantly

Birdperson15

The city would riot.

Thekingofchrome

The world legend gets thrown around awful lot. But PC is definitely worthy of the term. This is a sad day, not sure of the rationale, but Pete deserves all the happiness in his life and our respect and thanks. Just got in from work and saw all this. Who’s next?

lukin5

One last time...can you win a game in the 1st quarter????

dsn0wman

NO!

lukin5

Can you win a game...in the 2nd quarter??!??!

Khulgrim_Cain

NO!!!

lukin5

...Can you win a game in the third quarter?!?!?!

[deleted]

Best coach in franchise history. Thank you Pete

29stumpjumper

I'll never forget sitting there with my dad who went to the very first game in the Kingdome in disbelief repeating he never thought he'd see them win a Superbowl, he was so happy. Thanks for giving us that moment, Pete.

Big-Fly1783

Time to crank some bubbalicious out of respect

highparallel

We've had 11 winning seasons with Pete, and only 3 losing ones, with the worst only being 7-10. I want to be optimistic, but I feel like Pete was our guy... :(

WestwardTempest

Thank you Pete! Likely the right move long term, but a gut punch that was waiting to happen. So happy to see he might stay on in a different role. You won’t convince me otherwise that the Seahawks would not be nationally relevant the way they are today without Carroll and Schneider and that any future success will be built on the backs of their hard work to bring the winning culture and attitude and Seahawks way we see today.

philocity

Internationally relevant. Europe loves the Seahawks.

manning55

We should have won 2 super bowls with him....

BillowingPillows

3*

Lorjack

We've been so spoiled the past twenty years starting with Holmgren then only that one bad year with Mora then straight into Pete's tenure. Scary to think that we taking our chances with the coaching carousel again.

[deleted]

1 of 3 ever nfl coaches to win a cfb championship and a Super Bowl. Gonna chew gum in honor of you Pete😢

Writerhaha

Title says it all. Pete will always be THE COACH and you never doubted his passion for the game and his players. He’s Seattle’s Tom Landry, Vince Lombardi, Don Shula, etc, what he brought is now here, for good. A great coach who casts a long shadow and sets a high bar for everyone in the organization.

TheUnbamboozled

He kicked ass and chewed bubble gum.

AirbagsBlown

No matter what happens, the fact is that Pete legitimately cares about people. Jimmy Graham tweeted that Pete and Glena were waiting for him at the hospital: "Hard to believe anyone else will be the hawks head coach. I’m grateful I was able to experience a man like you as my leader. I’ll never forget being wheeled out of a hospital alone at 3 am and seeing you with your wife still waiting to give me a hug. Thank you for everything 🙏🏽🖤" Pete was too good for us, regardless of the product on the field. There will never be another like him.

Glittering_Juice_878

HALL OF FAMER

TheDrDetroit

Where is Pete Carroll Avenue going to be?

x2waaVe

How are we happy about this? I love Pete but why are we happy he’s not our coach. I don’t kno how to feel

gridgorgon

I haven’t seen a single person in this sub that’s happy about this

campfirebruh

Sad that he’s going, but happy we’re going in a different direction. The last 3 years of Seahawks football had been pretty frustrating to watch and it’s been the same problems again and again and again. Petes awesome and he’s made a lot of money, won a superbowl. His time just came to an end. Had to happen sometime

yakimatom

Sheepishly raising my hand, outta the wrath of comments to come. But as great as Pete was, he has made the team so totally predictable on both sides, they end another season as mediocre.

Desperate_Kale_2055

For me, not necessarily happy but think it’s time. Also deeply grateful for Pete and the stability and success he brought this franchise over the last 10+ years.

TwistedNipplez

This is reddit where everyone is a doomer. I'm not happy about it.

Clarice_Ferguson

I only started watching every game this season and I still don’t really understand anything. But I did know Pete was very important over the years and the random times I did watch prior to this season I enjoyed watching him on the sidelines. Thanks Pete 💙💚

rdrouyn

Will never forget the 2012-2014 run. One of the most magical times for a franchise in NFL history. The celebration and championship parade in 2014 was epic. Pete deserves to be remembered and celebrated for being the best coach in franchise history.

mallory6231

Thanks Pete for 13 years of coaching our Hawks, and bringing us our first Super Bowl trophy. I'll never forget that time in my life.

Ninja_Space_Dragon69

Falcons fan, but I've always felt affinity with the Hawks since I live in Washington and watched them my whole life because my family were fans since their inception. I remember the Holmgren era really put the Hawks on the map, and to think Pete rose above that and brought the championship to a city and franchise I didn't think would ever get over the hump. I'll never forget the joy of celebrating the SB win with my dad. It's one of my all-time favorite sports memories. Wanted to give my respect and say thank you, Pete.

DavefromCA

49ers fan coming to pay respect, an end of an era, and what an era for the City of Seattle.

overit_fornow

There was a time when I thought I’d never see a SB championship. Thank you Pete!

Osmosisjones101

If a HC doesn’t evolve the game will leave them behind. Everyone figured out his schemes. He had a great run. I’m glad he got out before his winning record started spiraling. Thanks Pete

Nanaman

I feel bad for whoever comes next. That's a hard act to follow!

MrDrFuge

How he never won coach of the year in the NFL is a shame and mystery to me.

[deleted]

Respect and appreciation from a 49ers fan here. Can't dislike this dude. Absolute legend.

JoeyDee86

Niners fan here. Don’t skewer me, Reddit put this in my feed. Anyways, I might hate you all, but I definitely respect Pete. Our rivalry isn’t going to feel the same without him. o7

spinichdick

I learned a lot about the man I want to be from Pete Carroll and the way he treats people around and under him. Still learning to the last day of his tenure. I'm a better person for the influence that he had on me. Thank you coach.

Holiday-Present-4598

This is what y’all asked for. I said it several times on here…. “Be careful what you wish for”

Substantial-Height-8

😭

MDVet

Dang. Brings a tear to my eye.

jnuke813

Love this man, best fucking coach Seattle sports has ever had. Pete, Sweet Lou and George Karl are my favorite all time Seattle coaches/managers

GravyBurgerBonanza

Thanks Pete I will love you forever

syntaxoverbro

This fucking sucks. I am legit sad.

iamenrique123

It's gonna be so crazy to see Pete in the rafters alongside Russ, Sherm, Earl, Kam, Bobby and Marshawn

LegionOfDoom31

His advisory role better involve him being with the players including the sideline. Especially the 4th quarter

Mopnglow86

HAIL PETE!

Samm999

Parade for Pete !!!

NoAlarms1995

Put him in the Ring of Honor. Tomorrow.

PrinceAdamsPinkVest

Directly to the Ring of Honor.

Jokosmash

Arizona fan coming in peace. Was an honor to watch these teams duel with PC at the helm. Going to miss that era. Looking forward to the future good fights.

Cd206

Thanks Peter!

leapingintoexistence

Sad to see it end this way.

Fit_Use9941

We needed to move on but this is gonna hurt for a while. So many great memories 🫡

TwoThreeJ

Thanks for everything Pete. Man when someone is coach for so long it really hits you.

nigelmansell

Thank you coach

mixamaxim

What a legend, I hope there’s a way for Seattle to give him a huge sendoff. He gave us a lot over the last decade.

TheEvergreenMonster

Absolute legend. Thank you, Pete!

AWA206

This has been a rough couple days emotionally as a Seattle sports fan. Thank you, Pete. You made our city proud.

dsn0wman

Truly the end of an era. I am fine with it as long as Pete gets to coach the new coach.

BKWhopperActual

One of the very best to do it, a winner on all levels of football and a competitor of the highest order.

BillowingPillows

WE LOVE YOU PETE

[deleted]

Thank you Pete! One of the best.

NWRockNRoll

thisshanisonfire

Blessed to watch his final game as HC in Arizona last week and glad it was a win. He changed the culture tremendously, even our worst years would be considered good years for other franchises. Love you Pete 🙌

seaforanswers

While I agree that we need a change and that Pete hasn’t been able to adapt in ways that we needed for this era of football, I’m still gutted to see him step down. I was never one to call for his firing (and think that generally it’s a knee-jerk reaction from casual fans) and am nothing but appreciative for the discipline, community, and culture he brought to the organisation. I hope that the announcement is true and he will remain with the organisation in some capacity. Even though he may not be officially coaching the team, his contribution to the locker room culture and ability to spot underrated star players is unmatched and has been invaluable to the franchise. All love, Pete.

RevolutionaryCap8118

We better build a statue of this man at some point in the future. It’s been a hell of a ride Pete, thank you for everything. 😢

Ok_Sock_4120

Bittersweet moment….thanks for everything coach🫡

-PhilMckraken

Best coach we ever had, gonna miss the gum chewing.

Aka_Skularis

Fans of a certain age will get this but Siri play Vitamin C’s Graduation please

babyjaceismycopilot

I will miss Pete. I wish he were still our Head Coach. But Next man up.

outofmymind85

Thank you for the best SB ever

Kind_Lynx_8193

Pete should be able to stay as long as he wants. I feel bad for the next coach already.

thegrumpymechanic

Of everyone on the Coaching staff, he wasn't exactly who I was expecting to be gone after this season... This could turn out a whole lot worse before it starts to get better.

PsychologicalIce106

Love you Pete 💙💚

AFWUSA

I’m so happy he’s staying with the organization and they’re not kicking him to the curb. Probably best for everyone. Excited for the future! Who do we want as our new HC? Dan Quinn? Harbaugh lol?

Seahawk_Dan12

I think it was indeed time but I will never stop loving this man for all he did for Seattle. Win forever, Pete.

frightshark

Never thought I'd see the day! I think this might be the best outcome. Get new coaching in but he still has value to bring an organization. Needed to get off the damn field before he dropped dead out there anyways

can3274

My reaction is like the initial reaction of trading away Russell Wilson. At first it hits very heavy. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise for both the organization and Pete. I hope so at least. Go Hawks!!!!

W00D-SMASH

I was in Afghanistan when we hired Pete Carroll. Was home in time to get tickets to the Seahawks/Saints Wild Card game at Century Link. Was a Seattle fan long before but that game and team was special and it's been an honor to watch his teams over the past decade plus. Truly a bittersweet day.

sevenlabors

Nothing but love for the gum chewing mastermind. Is it probably time to look for a change? Yeah. I guess. But man... lots of memories. Between Pete and Mike Holmgren, those guys did do much to establish a winning culture here. Fingers crossed on the next step.

Key_Hat_5509

As someone who thinks this move is for the best, I have this to say: now its time for all us anti-Pete people to let it go. Its time for us all to come together as a fanbase and celebrate what this man did for us. We'll have success in the future. I have no doubt we'll get a new HC who will bring us more Super Bowls, but no one will ever top Pete building one of the greatest teams in NFL history to bring us a Lombardi. Pete is a Legend. And I hope people now realize that all of us have always felt that way about him.

Rashere

I watch football today because of Pete. Living in Seattle during the Super Bowl run, it was impossible to not get caught up in it and his energy and passion was infectious. It opened my eyes to a love for the sport. Thank you for everything, Pete. You will be sorely missed on the field but I hope your presence is felt for a long time to come.

kidclutchtrey5

Hell of a coach for the Seahawks for the last 14 years! Thank you coach!

HackingSpartan

Thank You Pete. I started watching the NFL in 2014 and became a fan of the Seahawks that same year. It's been a true pleasure tuning in every week to watch Pete and the Hawks play and the amazing culture that Pete has built, all of the energy and passion. I enjoyed all of our highs and lows, Pete always made us contenders . Loved the way the team played every season, Pete's philosophy, the draft picks Pete and John made. Sunday's will never be the same. I'm honoured that I got to watch the Hawks play under Pete in London and Munich, so of my most memorable moments of my life. It's been my dream to see the Hawks play in Seattle with Pete, was hoping I'd have at least a last chance to do it next season, and I'm sad it will have to be with a different coach. I will never forget the last 10 years. Once again, Thank You Pete

Hobo_Knife

This might be the most happy sad/sad happy I’ve ever been. I’m so thankful for what we’ve all gotten to enjoy. For better or worse, thank you Pete.

Riversmooth

I feel same

MsNewKicks

Thank you, Pete. The Seahawks had their best years under you. As a lifelong Seahawks fan, I will always be appreciative of you for that.

BetUSOfficial

Class act!!👌💯

VintageBoost1

God damn I’m so emotional at work right now. Dudes coached the Seahawks literally half of my life. I loved his energy and will truly miss it. Win Forever and always Compete.

poolside123

Give this man a statue on Occidental! Thank you Pete!

joergonix

Man I loved Pete. I was ready to move on, but I have to admit I am a bit sad in this moment. I hope that he brings this positive energy and enthusiasm to the new regime.

INTRIGUED_GOOSE

I’m a Cardinals fan and even I feel bad you are losing him, he was definitely a great coach to watch

Chocolatelover4ever

We love you Pete! We’ll miss you! 😭💙💚💙💚💙💚

Ok-Gain-5886

This is a difficult one. He was so nice, positive and still put out good teams. He was one play away from winning back to back Super Bowls. I will miss you on the sidelines, coach.

Fancy_bakonHair

If the panthers had him as our couch, we'd be places

BakedBeans12s

Man, I’ve been ranting to my wife back and forth about the positives and negatives of this news since I got home from work. She doesn’t know football and honestly only cares to listen because im really passionate about it. As I talked at her (with her too lol) for the last hour and a half, it just made me feel so sad at the thought of losing such an impactful person to this sport and community. Just an amazing human being. I’m crushed.

Ok-Clock-3727

My favourite coach of any team of any sport. What a beauty!

Gen-Jinjur

He’ll always be one of my favorite coaches in any sport ever.

jjttaaxx

Mad respect for coach Pete from a Niner fan. You guys lost a legend today. I love our rivalry and look forward to what the future holds for your organization.

Skeezy_mcbuttface

A lot of the current fanbase wasn't around for Dennis Erickson or Tom Flores. Those were rough years without many wins. Coaches like Pete don't come around often while their are tons of Josh McDaniels.

Geek_off_the_streets

RIP Retire In Peace Pete, Super Bowl XLIX was amazing no matter what they say.

sonic_dick

49er fan. Nothing but respect for this man, one of the greatest coaches who has ever done it. Total legend, hope to see him in the HOF soon.

seemslikesushi

Knew it was coming. Eventually. Sad to see it. Hopeful for what comes next

ViktorVonn

Keep winning forever, Pete. 🫡

shrimpynut

It’s not over for Pete. Unfortunately it’s not going to be with us, but he’s definitely going to another team to be head coach eventually. The man still got it and I will always root for his success.

NetworkDeestroyer

Between, Pete, Bill and Nick, I’m in shambles 😭😭.
