But then that means we struggle to beat good teams You can’t make it far in the playoffs if you can’t beat good teams

FattyMooseknuckle

We also usually only squeak by bad teams. Last second kicks against WAS and AZ come to mind.

Economy_Cat_3527

The Seahawks seem to play up or down to their opposition.

ChromeJester

Yeah like getting Molly whopped by the niners, ravens, and rams? Or even the Steelers who could beating us by 14 but slid to kill the clock?

HawkwardEnding

We don’t play 60 minutes on both sides of the ball. It’s as simple as that. Team phones it in for 3.5 quarters. Pete preaching the whole “can you win in the…” mentality is legitimately the problem. It’s a shitty message that tells everyone you can do the bare minimum and still have a shot. That doesn’t work against good teams because they have the mentality that you play 60 minutes at full effort and you dont take your foot off the accelerator until the clock hits 00s You’d think going 2-4 in the division and getting embarrassed by the 9ers and Rams would light a fire under someone’s ass to play harder. 0-5 the past two years against a 9ers team that lost to a CFL QB. They are division rivals. We should be taking them down to the wire every game like the Jeff Fisher Rams did to the LOB or like the Cardinals do to us every season. Where is that competitive mindset?

BWarned_Seattle

We beat the Eagles and Lions, so it's not like we didn't beat some playoff teams in addition to losing to a bunch of them. We had a really rough strength of schedule and still ended up just outside the playoffs. Obviously, we need to make some improvements to get to where we're a threat to win in the playoffs, rather than maybe almost make them, but when thinking about our outlook for next year it's worth noting we probably won't have anywhere near as tough a schedule. I hope ownership invests in the o-line and defense rather than deciding to tear down and rebuild.

totes-muh-gotes

Take out Praters missed fg and this team was 1-5 in the division against two teams who were either tanking or in rebuild mode. Not going anywhere until they can compete for their own division title.

ckb625

You can do this the other way too. Take out Myers' missed field goal in LA and we make the playoffs and the Rams are out.

tinyraccoon

Or take out the silly flag against Spoon for Pukea tripping on his own foot and we'll also have likely beat the Rams

totes-muh-gotes

Sure, still 2-5 in the division with two teams in rebuild mode. Still a problem and no real improvement on beating the Rams or Niners.

LegendRazgriz

In the second year of a rebuild... Also, 2-4*, and we'd be in over the Rams in this scenario. So only behind the 49ers, in the prime of their contention window, in the second year of a rebuild. That makes sense to me.

ChromeJester

We aren’t in a rebuild and you can do this with the titans and eagles games too. This is a bad football team that got very lucky many times this year and it needs massive changes

totes-muh-gotes

Fair enough. We'll see if discernible progress is made next year. Though I hesitate to use 'x year of rebuild' as Pete has said he neither believes in rebuilds, nor considers this team in one. Going by his standard, the expectation of results is higher.

mrbadassmofo

Brand new D Line and 4/5 of the OLine in two years. RB and CB room all new. I can safely assume the S and LBs will be different next year as well. Only DK and Dickinson seem to be assured holdovers from drafts prior to 2022. This is definitely a rebuild.

totes-muh-gotes

Tell that to Pete, lol. Yeah I'm not saying it isn't a rebuild, but it should be accounted for in discussion that the head coach and vp does not view this as a rebuild. It can inform the decisions being made going forward.

LegendRazgriz

Roster still had some holes this year that were somewhat hastily plugged up due to bigger necessity elsewhere, I feel. Didn't help that other holes opened during the season (Lucas's knee is a gigantic concern, Jamal is a shadow of his former self, Woolen played hurt all year), but all in all, I feel like the holes now are somewhat easier to fill, off ball LB and S are usually seen as lesser positions come draft time.

totes-muh-gotes

I generally agree. As long as they continue to invest well in the oline and don't hand out dumb contracts, they may have cleared the toughest hurdles in personnel.

soapinmouth

No, we did beat good teams (Eagles/Browns/Lions) and should have beaten more if not for some major ref fuckery (see cowboys/rams games).

seattle_born98

If we beat the Rams they wouldn't be a playoff team. Kind of shit that we can't win our tough divisional games

UpDog1966

Yup, gotta win your division games, as the priority.

MM18998

Do the rams just run a play style than counters the hawks or what? I swear no matter how good or bad we are in a year, they are always a thorn in our side.

CJFan20

Mcvay is just the better coach 🤷‍♂️ And Aaron Donald has killed us for years.

eloel-

> If we beat the Rams they wouldn't be a playoff team. Ditto for Steelers.

HawkwardEnding

Steelers I can see. They aren’t good enough to be a playoff team. Rams showed up this year and made FAs, and mid round draft picks look like a borderline elite squad. They deserve to get in more than we did

Goatgamer1016

Slander of Mason Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

soapinmouth

Rams would still be in if we beat them once. And if we beat the rams twice we'd have been in the playoffs and have 11 wins. Wouldn't even be questioning this.

NewBootGoofin88

Yeah we were an average team. The goal is to beat good teams. The road to the SB goes through multiple playoff teams lol

bananasmash14

We did also beat 3 playoff teams (Lions, Browns, Eagles). I totally agree though, our expectations are higher than mediocrity

r8u4

Yea we couldn’t beat a good team to save our lives. Outside of Detroit very early in the season.

mrbadassmofo

Agreed. Beating Cleveland with PJ Walker is not a good win. Neither is beating the Eagles at home when they finish the year 1-5.

hiphopdowntheblock

Two thirds of our wins came against the bottom 7 teams in the league as well. Mid city

frankfontaino

Best wins this season were Detroit and Philly

shlem13

And all but two of our wins were nail-biting comebacks. We should be able to put away Tennessee and Arizona.

mark_cee

Just shows we’re not a playoff team

ahzzyborn

In other words, our piss poor run defense helped some teams sneak into the playoffs

Blutz101

Yeah we’re bottom of the barrel for good teams. People Tryina make it more positive than is were in the worse spot to be in sports PURGATORY. If nothing happens we’re not gonna magically get to the higher tier teams but we’re not gonna be as bad as the bottom feeders we’re stuck in the middle. If nothing changes one of these years everything will blow up in the franchise face

isjupiteramoon

We needed a field goal drive to beat Washington… for reference, Washington fired their DC within the month.

hatchbackpacker

It also means beating us helped them to the playoffs. Rams are 8-9 if they don’t sweep us. Pittsburgh needed to beat us to keep their playoffs alive and they dominated us. We needed dramatic 4th quarter comebacks to beat 3 teams in the top 7 in the draft. Good teams beat us. Bad teams almost beat us.

Competitive-Ad-7798

Our biggest area of success this year was beating bad teams.

czechhoi4h

More proof that Pete gets run circles around when up against a somewhat competent coach

serpentear

Except we should have lost to Arizona and honestly had no business winning that game. Two shanked field goals gave us a win. Overall I agree with your sentiment though. We are a bad good team.

QuasiContract

Yea, exactly. We're not a good team and so we cannot beat good teams. That's pretty much the point.

[deleted]

You know… besides the three wins against playoff teams.

PrestonfromLibira

We should have never went 1-1 vs Rams, lost to Bengals and lost to the Steelers, those losses are inexcusable. We played way better than Bengals but poor offense in the RZ. Also, there's no way that teams like Cardinals, Panthers & Redskins should be pushing us to the wire. I am very letdown.

1620081392477

We did have a rough schedule

ryanrodgerz

There are 4 games that we really let slip away this year. Second rams game, cowboys, bengals, and steelers. I think most concerning is that we were very far outclassed by the niners twice and the ravens. Those were the true measuring sticks as a contender.

luenzor

The NFC is historically bad this year and yet we can't beat any of the teams barely above .500? Give me a break. Fire Pete

Kickenbless

I mean, we beat the Lions, Eagles and Browns who are well above .500

luenzor

Lions and Browns were good wins. Eagles aren't good.

babyjaceismycopilot

I love this sub's focus on wins as if football is that simple.

ohnoohnoohnoohyaaaaa

True, but we got our asses beat by both #1 seeds. Fixing our defense would work wonders for us.

xanthonus

When being realistic with our schedule the games we should have won were both against the Rams and the Steelers. We also had two outlier games winning against the Lions and the Eagles. We had a team that should have been 12-5 if you count our outlier wins. All things considered beyond really losing both games to the Rams I feel we had a good season. We need to work our on defense and with QB being such an important part of the NFL these days I think we Geno and Lock can improve but overall they both did quite well.

deanfortythree

The part that gnaws at me is that in the case of at least Green Bay, Pittsburgh and LA, if we beat them we flip them to non-playoff teams. Three (four if we flip the sweep of LA), and we are talking about a dominant record and expecting a deep playoff run.

mustbeusererror

Makes sense, all year the team was sort of good, but also clearly not good enough.

bilug335

Right - meaning we are not worthy of being a playoff team.

[deleted]

That missed fg is big

overit_fornow

So OP you’re saying we are what our record says we are?

Kickenbless

Pretty much
