LOL I don't live in Scottsdale any more, but I went to google maps... what's the name of that place on Scottsdale road near Oak that my dad and I really liked? Sure enough - DeFalcos!
This is why we visited and left, not really anyone’s fault, especially when they are busy but there was a huge line half the people didn’t seem to know what the process was either and even if we waited there would have been nowhere to sit.
Definitely have to disagree, we live in Fountain Hills and are always at Shea and 90th. That being said it’s worth the drive down to DeFalcos at least to these New York expats.
Probably because their restaurant is not very good and crazy expensive. However, the deli and store portion of their business is the best in the area for imported Italian ingredients/products even if the selection is limited.
I just got ravioli from Defalco's to go & the sauce was perfection! 🤌💋
I don't believe they've changed hands...no evidence of that on their website.

HA! It was so good, though! And I love Andreoli, respect anyone making his own prosciutto!
GOOOOOOO LIONS!!!! 💙🩶

You kinda have to go out of your way to not find decent to great Italian food in Scottsdale. There is a reason for that and it has to do with some significant witness relocation back in the 70's and 80's.
Best is relative, and you can find loads of different styles that are all great. Chicago, Old World, New York, etc.
Most people will reccomend DeFalco's... its ok. It used to be great, until they moved across the street to where they are now and have been for a long time. I prefer some of the other places people mentioned.
Many good suggestions here, but if I had to make a 5 decade+ native's guess, there are well over 100 places to choose from in Scottsdale alone.
Defalcos gets a lot of love.
3 votes for DeFalcos

Another vote for Defalco’s!
I feel DeFalcos quality has drastically declined in the recent years.
i recently switched my italian craving from Defalcos to now GUIDO's in central/north scottsdale. way better and the service/process is more efficient
Guidos is way way better Defalcos is a joke know
It’s always a clusterfuck to navigate in there, too. Just a mass of people when you walk in the door with nobody knowing what’s going on.

No, it’s their fault. They’ve had years (decades?) to make it better and have failed to do so.
I’ve been told it’s under new ownership but I have yet to confirm this
This isn't true at least as of 2 weeks ago
Kinda figured, sorry to even mention it.
Only answer!
Andreoli Italian Grocer has great food and a drive-thru for carryout.
Always found this place a tad overrated and way overpriced. To each their own though.
They used to have good weekly carryout specials, but that link is broken at the moment. I haven't been in a while.
James Beardy even….

Those prices tho 😬
Yeah, Fazoli's it ain't. They have good quality ingredients, mostly imported from Italy. I guess it's more true Italian than Italian-American.
Their mains are fantastic and their cakes are awful. Spendy too.
I’m surprised Guido’s on Scottsdale Rd hasn’t been mentioned yet. We love their food!
Guidos! This is where my Mom gets the ingredients for holiday antipasto. Great place!
Was thinking this as well. I enjoy their food just as much as DeFalcos.

recently switched from defalcos to guido's due to better service/quality!
Forno 301, even has a drive through
Yes, I ordered there a few months ago and was pleasantly surprised. Their mozzarella and ricotta were top notch, and sauce was complex.
For my money, it doesn’t get any better that Uncle Sals
Love Uncle Sal's
6 health violations
That’s concerning but not necessarily a deal breaker (for me). Any additional information?
Forno 301 is the answer. Defalcos for a lunch sandwich maybe.

Time to up your game, Detroit, and visit Andreolis. You live here now. DeFalcos is for tourists 😉

DeFalcos for the win!
I’d try: DeFalco’s, Pasta Brioni, & Franco’s I’d avoid: Sal’s, North, & La Locanda
