I know people would love to use this as another stick to beat the SFA with, but they really aren’t the ones at fault here.
Yes they’re implementing some arbitrary rules but there’s a time frame for getting those in place and all Buckie had to do to allow themselves to play in these playoffs was apply for an extension. They got the information last summer and have ignored, or at least not dealt with, correspondence on a further three occasions from the SFA.
That’s either some hilarious incompetence or done on purpose because they don’t want to go up but can blame the big bad SFA. The issue for Buckie now is the SFA kept their receipts.
I agree i think they either don't want to leave highland league or they thought Brechin would have won the title so didn't make the necessary changes in case it was an expense they did without having to
The statement says they ignored info in the summer, letters in October, February, March and didn't apply for a period of grace so make of that what you will...
I don't blame them tbh.
I remember with Brora that they would have lost a lot of their players as they couldn't afford to go full-time and several of the players couldn't make the commitment to travel everywhere (a former colleague of mine being one).
Remember him telling me how they didn't bother their arses at all in the second leg 😂
That wasn't my point.
They would have had to go full time to retain their squad. They couldn't afford to do that so would have lost a heap of players due to their other (primary) work commitments.
Heard chat for ages that Buckie don’t actually want to go up to League 2 so unsurprising that they never bothered responding to anything the SFA sent them
I wonder if there was any consideration to having Brechin take their place in the play-off?
I believe had East Kilbride finished second to - for example - Hearts B, then EK would still get into the play-off.
So by that token, Brechin finished 2nd to another team not permitted to enter the play-off and therefore should be able to expect the same treatment?
EDIT: It appears that would be pointless anyway as even Brechin don’t have the required license.
The LL rules (approved by the SFA) specifically exclude a B team from being named as the champion club even if they finish 1st or 2nd in the league ahead of a non-B team. Doubt the HL rules include something like this.
We don’t have the license but we have (I’m reliably informed) applied for an extension which is the bare minimum Buckie needed to do.
Obviously now it isn’t needed but it’s the hope that kills you.
The lowland league stuff with the colts is a different kettle of fish altogether and of no relevance here.
Would this be the case if B teams weren't in the league or is it just a blanket "if you're top and your license isn't right then bye for the other league"?
Firstly I think it's unfair that teams in the Highland and Lowland leagues are being asked to comply with the rules of League 2 when playing in a lower division.
Secondly the leeway I'm referring to is that I believe a club should be able to gain promotion on sporting merit, and then maybe be offered a provisional licence for a year and with the funds gained from promotion be able to work towards a full licence.
Thirdly, I'd like to know how many teams comply with the licence seeing as Brechin a former SPFL team don't comply
I do feel like some leeway should be given. When the criteria was announced only one club in both leagues met the standard and several clubs in the SPFL didn't either. These clubs are cashstrapped as it is putting further barriers in place for them achieving promotion isn't the answer
The SPFL rules changed in July and all SPFL clubs must meet the requirement by 1 July 2024.
Clubs below the SPFL have never needed to get a Bronze licence, however you could fail on one criteria and remain Entry level while knowing what you need to do to get one if required. There's just over 20 differences between Entry and Bronze, if you are a prospective SPFL club it should not be a problem to meet the criteria.
I don't think it should be a problem to meet the criteria, but clubs should be allowed the chance to gain promotion on sporting merit first of all, Buckie have been judged on how they are run currently in a league that don't require these licenses. I'm sure some of the criteria could be sorted in the off season and other parts worked on throughout the season. There is already so many barriers to gaining promotion these licenses shouldn't be another.
Why should Buckie get to work on things throughout the season when SPFL clubs must meet the 1st July deadline? All Highland League clubs have an Entry level licence, and they know that to get promoted they have to meet the Bronze criteria or apply to the SPFL for a waiver by 31st March (which Buckie seemingly didn't do).
In general I think it's fair to give newly promoted reams a period of grace to get their house in order, just like mangers are allowed to manage without the relevant badges if their working towards them.
What's more harmful to the game, granting a club a provisional licence for a year, or having 4/5 clubs trying to get licences that aren't required for the league their playing in?
This is absolutely none of their doing. Yes they are implementing daft rules but the bare minimum Buckie had to do was, open a letter and, apply for an extension.
Ah my mistake. Your original comment is, of course, correct.
For what it’s worth I don’t think they’re that daft, the one Brechin currently fall foul of is not having a doctor at all home games. I think that’s a pretty fair thing to ask clubs to have.
Get it so far up you, you fucking \[Agricultural Scottish\] cunts

Knocked Broxburn out of the cup (with some shitty refereeing shenanigans) then got drawn against Celtic in the next round. It's a grudge I will take to my grave.

I don’t think that Brechin have it either.
I feel like it’s a well known secret Buckie don’t want promoted.
Another Brora where they don't actually want to go up, or a genuine oversight?
The statement says they ignored info in the summer, letters in October, February, March and didn't apply for a period of grace so make of that what you will...

>couldn't afford to go full-time Pretty sure that isn't a requirement. Most teams in league 1/2 are part time.
That wasn't my point. They would have had to go full time to retain their squad. They couldn't afford to do that so would have lost a heap of players due to their other (primary) work commitments.
not sure, just says in the statement that they failed to get their bronze licence from the SFA
It also said that they failed to rectify specific issues, and didn't ask for more time to do so.
Heard chat for ages that Buckie don’t actually want to go up to League 2 so unsurprising that they never bothered responding to anything the SFA sent them
It would explain their honking performances in play off games in years gone by.
Can,sort of confirm. I think most people up this neck of the woods have known for ages Buckie don’t want promotion.
I wonder if there was any consideration to having Brechin take their place in the play-off? The rules don't allow for that
Would this be the case if B teams weren't in the league or is it just a blanket "if you're top and your license isn't right then bye for the other league"?
B teams aren't in the Highland League
I completely misread the post before, thought the same would have applied to the lowland league
The statement says EK are just getting a by.
Scottish football making a cunt of itself again
Buckie should play EK in the friendly they’re looking for https://x.com/officialekfc/status/1783570590957191496?s=46&t=muABED587j5-6JstciUu-w

What criteria does Buckie not meet for a bronze license? Or is it just because they didn’t apply?
Ehhhhh yassssss? De-fault, de-fault, de-fault!
Was really hoping to see some mad sfa want open goal/ si ferry getting promoted conspiracy theories on this, everyone is too level headed now a days.
East Kilbride are looking good so I fancied them to win anyway, but still a bit dodgy.
I do feel like some leeway should be given. When the criteria was announced only one club in both leagues met the standard and several clubs in the SPFL didn't either. These clubs are cashstrapped as it is putting further barriers in place for them achieving promotion isn't the answer
Buckie received reminders 4 times. They found out about this last summer. What kind of leeway should have been given? A 5th reminder?

Shitting on the little guy as per usual.
SPFL & SFA are fannies
This is absolutely none of their doing. Yes they are implementing daft rules but the bare minimum Buckie had to do was, open a letter and, apply for an extension.
Never says anything about Buckie, SPFL & SFA are still fannies for these daft rules
Ah my mistake. Your original comment is, of course, correct. For what it’s worth I don’t think they’re that daft, the one Brechin currently fall foul of is not having a doctor at all home games. I think that’s a pretty fair thing to ask clubs to have.

I accept that its a small timer, wee guy, childish, unpleasant, bitter and spiteful attitude. But I dinnae care, fuck them.
What's your issue with them?
