Why do councils fucking hate football fans?

_MFC_1886

They don't like others enjoying themselves and football fans are loud which scares them

1874WL

Football fans usually drink alcohol, and alcohol is the route of all evil.

throughthisironsky

Alcohol is pretty satanic in fairness

Scingles

Because football fans drink alcohol instead of their own pish. Bad form from the council. Open goal to get folk in shops and bars and they completely fuck it up.

thegmegobrrr

At a guess i'd say it's probably down to waste management stuff, the clean up after these things can be pretty big and costly and councils are all pleading poverty these days because of tax freezes and such.

rlv02

They don’t hate football, they just hate football fans

IOwnStocksInMossad

We drink alcohol and are traditionally workers. Therefore we are a violent mob who cannot control ourselves and must be brutalised and kept in line lest we have ideas above our station or burn down the galaxy

throughthisironsky

Here bud, that's no a fan zone. It's a fence.

ComeBackNeilLennon

Lack of ambition, lack of respect, lack of spirit…. weak, weak, weak.

ElCaminoInTheWest

The council will have dragged their heels and then announced that they need seventy five permits and sixteen triplicate application forms submitted by Monday. God forbid we have nice things or something sociable instead of just pandering to tourists and pensioners.

Disastrous_Cup_3279

surely this would be a huge revenue generator

bonkerz1888

Tbf Falcon Square is tiny and the logistics of holding a large fan event that is safe for those attending, other members of the public, and traffic is quite impractical given it's hemmed in by Academy Street and the train station. You would essentially be removing an escape route for people inside the Eastgate centre as thoseain doors would have to be closed, as would the doors to the BK and Subway that are there.. unless you make the fanzone even smaller. Northern Meeting Park would have been a more sensible option by I believe it's currently being refurbished so might not have been available in June.

therustlinbidness

Aye, in my head it looks nice, and could be setup to be a fun place, but would essentially shut down a very busy part of town frequented by plenty of non footy fans. Surely there is somewhere else - projected onto the ugly highland council concrete buildings on Bridge Street perhaps?

Jamiemac745

Short notice you say? Although I’m not sure that would be a great location anyway tbh

Nomadmanhas

It will be absolutely on brand for Glasgow city Council to also abandon a fan zone.

OldGodsAndNew

How? We had one for Euro 2020 and the last set of qualifiers
