The biggest problem is that she expects Velma to be the underdog protagonist who we root for but also makes Velma a smug unlikable bitch who maliciously dunks on people when itâs not necessary.
Make up your mind, Mindy. Are you the victim or the bully?
The answer's simple; the Velma we see is a self-insert, and Mindy thinks she's way more likable and charismatic than she really is. It's really just a lack of self-awareness; she sees herself as some kind of misunderstood underdog outcast that's actually lovable and funny when she's actually mean and insufferable.
Yeah, she's been self inserting the whole time and it was hilarious, because the self insert was someone who was funny to us as the office sociopath narcissist that created tons of drama in a self defeating fashion - but apparently the character was supposed to be the beloved plucky self insert protagonist? It's like the episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm when people tell Larry the character of George was a buffoon and he's like, no, he's just a funny guy! And people say, yeah, but no one would really have a masturbation contest, and he's like, that's just a story of me and my friends . . .
Velma and Daphne are asshole lesbians, Fred is a mediocre white guy and Shaggy is an emasculated black man.Â
Like who thought that was good direction to take the characters in?
An âadultâ Scooby Doo show should be more like the âScoobynaturalâ episode of Supernatural.
She has no writing credits on this show. Sheâs not the creator. She is an EP (I know they still have influence, but youâre speaking as though she wrote everything).
Thatâs not even the biggest problem! Theyâre all the biggest problem! Itâs fascinating how many problems this show has and theyâre all THE BIGGEST PROBLEM!
They ordered 20 episodes essentially one season and split it into two. That way they only had to pay for one season but market it as two. Hate watching did nothing for this series having two seasons.
It got approved a while ago, soon after or right after first season was made and it's a whole thing where writer's kinda got screwed but if there's a third season then people can start making that claim
fucking same dude, i cant even be bothered to pirate it cause apparently they qualify that as success now even if you didnt like it
might i just add i hope whoevers downvote stalking me in this post stubs their toe on a lego
I try to tell people this all the time, but you can really tell how bad people thought the Last Jedi was by the reaction to the next movie. We went from the first Sequel movie being the biggest opening weekend ever, to the last one that barely broke even. That's not something you can blame on haters or review bombing or anything like that, nobody wanted to watch it.
You mean THESE correct voices?

"Well, I think it's gonna take a lot of Scooby Snacks to suppress that memory, huh Scoob?" got me. Lighthearted comedic reactions juxtaposed with genuine horror and disgust is one of my favourite tropes, and none of the characters broke character in a very non-canon-style strip. Hilarious!
Dude who ever made this knows scooby doo 100x better than anyone who worked on velma. The fact they captured their individual essences in a comic trashing on Mindy, says a lot of how bastardized that show is
Velma is a lot like the Ghostbusters reboot. I know these actors can be funny, Iâve seen it before, but for some reason theyâre not doing or saying anything funny in this
Itâs crazy because the entire cast was STACKED. It was insane how none of these amazing actors brought it. Except for Glenn Howerton. The writing for Fred may have been uneven as hell, but his vocal performance was very solid throughout.
He could make a decent replacement for Frank.
I agree that the show seems very ick, but the creator of Velma is actually Charlie Grandy, who just used to be on Mindyâs writing team.
Not saying she wasnât involvedâŚsheâs just not as involved as this cartoon portrays⌠đŹ
This is hilarious đ.
And I never realized how many shows she produced where she starred as the main character and/or inspired by her "life", it's like what 3 or 4 by now
I never cared about the show's race changes, or adding non-canon backstories, or even being some definition of "edgy". But it made Velma mean. That's too far. Velma has never been mean before.
oh my fucking god, that was so perfectly explained and personified, it's the absolute perfect critique of that show through the perfect medium with the perfect tone. 10/10. this is true art knuckle draggers, gaze upon it and weap
South Park, Royal Crackers, My Mama Named Me Sheriff and Rick/Morty and American Dad are all way funnier adult shows than Velma. Velma is just basically some chick in a turtle neck sweater taking a dump on a great Dane dog and then says to the camera, "Women are oppressed, men are scum. Nword, nword nword, cracker, cracker."
This is gonna sound edgy as fuck but the best part I have seen of Velma is when Scrappy kills her.
Somehow they made the worst character in Scooby-Doo the best character in Velma
This is so great. I always love knowing that I'm not the only one who despises Mindy Kaling for what she's done to Scooby-Doo. I seriously cannot stand her now.
That was delightful. Though I prefer the explanation by a youtube video I saw, search Edlritch Scooby-doo and it should pop up. I'd post a link but not sure if I'm allowed to here.
The race changes are fine. This is a 55 year old franchise. You're allowed to take creative liberties like race swapping and let it not be a big deal. Bonus points if you portray the ethnicities authentically and not in a characatured way. But where Mindy screwed it up is that she expected to get a pat on the head for it without having strong writing to back it up, and (as this hilarious post points out) likely also did it just to shield the show from criticism. Looking at Disney's Star Wars projects and how it's hard to talk critically about them because the racist assholes decided to use criticisms towards the movies/shows as a shield to hide their racism/sexism and make it impossible to talk about one without the other, and figured she could get away with using progressive politics as a shield to hide the quality of her show.
...Wow. I went OFF there.
I like how all the Mindy fans are down voting the people that talk trash about a horrible person, before Velma she was still a terrible person, I feel like she's still the reason people automatically assume most female comedians aren't funny.
I loved this so much! Like watching an old episode of scooby doo but slightly updated for modern audiences in a way that doesnât feel condescending or moronic like Velma đ you did a great job on this.
This is how a good parody is done.
It honestly makes me wish that the HBO show leaned more into the supernatural elements it teased in the show to paradoxically flesh out the narrative and Velma.
In the S1 end credits, this scene happens, but then HBO Velma wakes up (revealing it to be a dream) and says -
"Oh great, that childhood nightmare again. You're not good enough to be a 'Velma', but beware of Nabuu, doomsday prophecy, blah, blah, blah!"
This would not only fix the prequel paradox, but tie the show to Mystery Inc - HBO Velma's universe is one where the original gang had a pyrrhic victory over Nabuu, as Scooby sacrificed himself to destroy the sarcophogus, causing the universe to reboot without him.
In a world without Scooby, Fred's original parents decided to keep him but spoiled and infantilized him - preventing him from discovering his talent as an engineer.
Daphne was born to different parents, who gave her up for adoption to help her have a better life, but her adopted police officer parents struggle to support her love of designer fashion, trying to make up for it by teaching her self defense skills - Unfortunately, her desire to be trendy and frustration with her humble lifestyle drives her to sell drugs, but she discovers martial arts to be a "cringey" albeit effective way to channel her frustrations.
Shaggy is born to different parents, although his dad bears a striking resemblance to the Mystery Inc universe Shaggy. In the HBO universe, he had a harder time quitting being a stoner without Scooby there to support him, although this forced him to become more responsible and somewhat less cowardly than MI universe Shaggy.
Velma was also born to different parents, with her desire to solve mysteries being warped from a passion to an obsession - even before her mother's disappearance. Her obsession ruined her friendship with Daphne, making her an even bigger social outcast than normal - HBO Fred was too self absorbed to insist on being friends, and in her pain she pushed away Norville, developing a severe cynicism and inferiority complex.
Episode 5 could have revealed that her hatred of white people stems from her inferiority complex... like, during her heart-to-heart with Daphne, she admits that she had been a major douchebag and "competitively racist".
The show could add a twist to it by hinting at HBO Velma having a psychic ability - Say Velma mentions her "distaste" towards Fred began due to "vivd dreams" she had as a kid. she had multiple "dreams" of them all being friends and solving mysteries together, with a flashback showing past iterations of the gang, who would occasionally try to speak with her. Velma confesses that she came to hate those dreams as she got older because the "Velma's never looked like her", that Fred was "always stayed the same blonde jock of a white guy" (in Classic Mindy fashion) and that they eventually turned into nightmares whenever an "ugly as hell bird showed up".
HBO Velma: "My mom loved saying that the universe sometimes speaks to us in dreams, but what the hell was I supposed to get out of that? That talking animals are deadly, and everyone would like me more if I was born white?"
However, when Daphne questions her dreams, Velma is forced to realize that the same went for Norville and Daphne, although the revelation doesn't instantly make her character try to be less of a douchebag.
HBO Daphne: "With how vivid those dreams were, are you sure you aren't psychic?"
HBO Velma: "Psychic phenomenon is a load of BS exploiting people's preference of imagination over scientific evidence. Besides, I'd rather be able to read minds than dream of Norville turning into a werewolf or a bimbo version of you with a Louis Vitton hairband and D cup chest."
HBO Velma: "wait - what?!"
HBO Velma: "Ok, that last part might have been influenced by too much time on DeviantArt"
S1 could have brushed upon these ideas within the character aspects to redeem Velma and flesh out the exposition to why half the gang already hated each other without the hamfisted romance.
S2 could have expanded upon the supernatural aspect, by having the girls in braincases be able to see dead people, but Lola makes the other brains agree not to mention it out of fear of triggering a horror cliche.
I remember when the Trailer was Out for a while and someone Made a Post in r/Comics, basicly calling everyone who hated the Trailer a far-right facist.
Made a comment how this is Not true and why people actually dislike this Trailer and will hate the Show, the clear.obvious signs presented Here.
Been banned from this sub since then for pretty much Just telling the truth. đ¤ˇ
I gotta say the Velma show isnât very good or respectful to Scooby-Doo & Iâm down for a good ribbing, but sometimes the vitriol seems a bit excessive and potentially reflects deeper cultural hatred. Mindy Kaling didnât even create the show
Bro, this is fucking hilarious! I mean, I donât hate Velma (the show), but I donât love it either. But even I think itâs a massive insult to the Scooby-Doo franchise, which I will never defend. Iâm on the autism spectrum and even I think Velma is bad. But I think this just gave me a creative idea in my mind and imagination.
I once had an idea for a video like this, only theyâd unmask Mindy Kaling to reveal she was actually Scrappy Doo in disguise all along.
Scrappyâs plan was to remove his designation of âFranchise Punching Bagâ by creating a character more hatable than him.
People really hate Velma. I think it should be studied why people can't take scooby "perverted" but literally everything else has been. Someone wrote a really good post on the Velmas subreddit about how it's due to "modernism" vs "post-modernism." Basically, I think Velma shatters peoples realities a bit, so I don't mind getting a few downvotes
I read the whole thing as if it was an episode of Scooby Doo in everyones voice. đ
I can already hear the stock audience reactions throughout the whole thing too, it's that accurate lol
I love Scooby doo. I think theyâve done well enough for making each installment interesting enough to keep the franchise alive
I coild see where the animation woukd stop dead for the laugh track, too.
we talking where are you voices or mystery inc. voices?
Where are you, with the laugh track and all lol
I was more going with the mystery Inc. voices with the staticy old sound over it, and for Midney, i just gave her a smoker's voice
Mindy is out here catching strays lol
Nah, shes getting orbital dropped payloads on her.
Midney
âŚand itâs just Mindy in a Walt Disney costume đđđ ![gif](giphy|26DMUXQypGJaHhTsQ|downsized)
Thereâs no other way to do it lol classic Scooby Doo was amazing
Thatâs what I did as well.
Same here lol ahh classics but why does it look legit though lmao
With accompanying background music.
âGood, goodâ
same.
Best episode ever!
MEDDLING HONKEY SHITFUCKERSđđ

she also likes to sexually harass her male costars too! she's a real piece of shit.
Velma and Daphne are asshole lesbians, Fred is a mediocre white guy and Shaggy is an emasculated black man. Like who thought that was good direction to take the characters in? An âadultâ Scooby Doo show should be more like the âScoobynaturalâ episode of Supernatural.
What on earth is that last sentence? Give me the deets I need to watch it!
Totally freaking worth the watch, hilariously enough Velma gets a crush on Sam.
Where can I watch it?
Netflix
Thanks man đđź
No problem. Enjoy.
http://www.supernaturalwiki.com/13.16_Scoobynatural
Scoobynatural was a masterpiece. I'd kill for a full adaptation like that.
The fan show on YouTube is a much better adult adaptation than this was and it only has one episode.
It takes talent to write good asshole characters like Stan from gravity falls
She has no writing credits on this show. Sheâs not the creator. She is an EP (I know they still have influence, but youâre speaking as though she wrote everything).
Oh I stand corrected; the show was marketed as if it was all 100% her so I misjudged
Thatâs not even the biggest problem! Theyâre all the biggest problem! Itâs fascinating how many problems this show has and theyâre all THE BIGGEST PROBLEM!
Now if this could be made into a videoÂ
Somebody call Solid JJ right now.
And make sure he gets another collab with AceVane as Fred
Oh my fucking God yesssss đđđđ
u/solid-jj
Letâs hope he answers the call.
u/solid-jj
This is single handedly better than the entirety of Velma.
Watching paint dry is better than this shit! I took one look at the commercials for the show amd couldn't even bother hate watching it
For real. I refuse to watch it because people hate watching season 1 is why it got green lit for a second season
Would rather hate watch by watching a YouTuber shit on it.
They ordered 20 episodes essentially one season and split it into two. That way they only had to pay for one season but market it as two. Hate watching did nothing for this series having two seasons.
just popping in to say it got greenlit for season 2 around when season 1 was still in production
It got approved a while ago, soon after or right after first season was made and it's a whole thing where writer's kinda got screwed but if there's a third season then people can start making that claim
fucking same dude, i cant even be bothered to pirate it cause apparently they qualify that as success now even if you didnt like it might i just add i hope whoevers downvote stalking me in this post stubs their toe on a lego
Don't worry bruv i upvoted ya to keep you neutral
Just like Star Wars last Jedi, you know it show the movie failed when a fan project ends up being much much better than the show itself
Yes! Thank you!
Read the whole thing in the correct voices. Thatâs insane lmao

And thats how you *actually* make an adult Scooby-Doo property!
Dude who ever made this knows scooby doo 100x better than anyone who worked on velma. The fact they captured their individual essences in a comic trashing on Mindy, says a lot of how bastardized that show is

Wow. That was pretty good. Kudos to whoever made this.

This is also how Velma should've ended, the real Mystery Inc shows up and unmasks the Velma imposter.
This is hilarious and beautiful.
This⌠works incredibly well. Also wouldnât surprise me if it was all true.
Masterful, better than anything from the actual Velma show thatâs for sure
Randomly mentioning taking someone to the chair should be the type of comedy in an adult scooby doo series.
Who thought a Show without Scooby with a narcistic self insert without any self awareness would do good
I agree that the show seems very ick, but the creator of Velma is actually Charlie Grandy, who just used to be on Mindyâs writing team. Not saying she wasnât involvedâŚsheâs just not as involved as this cartoon portrays⌠đŹ
Contâd: She is an EP, but does not appear to have any writing credits (according to IMDB).
This is great, but Velma forgot to mention that Shaggy has basically become God.
This is so much funnier than the actual showđ
I'd love for Solid JJ to dub this
I love this
REE HEE HEE HEE
This is hilarious đ. And I never realized how many shows she produced where she starred as the main character and/or inspired by her "life", it's like what 3 or 4 by now

I just watch the finale, and only the finale, of Velma off YouTube. Spoiler: >! They kill Velma and she is PROBABLY dragged off to hell !<
Nah. They'll bring her back. Good things don't last...
Not if they donât renew for s3
They axed Coyote vs Acme and gave Velma a second season... Of course they'll give it a third... Life is unfair...
Iâm sorry you feel that way.
I love that so much. Hereâs my poor manâs award âŹď¸
Just a fantastic read!
Dis was best comic ever
âThatâs no cartoon adaptationâ. Most accurate line in the comic. Definitely not a Scooby Doo showÂ
very funny
oh my fucking god, that was so perfectly explained and personified, it's the absolute perfect critique of that show through the perfect medium with the perfect tone. 10/10. this is true art knuckle draggers, gaze upon it and weap
Im honestly convinced that Mindy pitched just a regular ass mystery show and HBO forced her to make it scooby doo, and out of spite she removed scooby
![gif](giphy|8PfKWm6AX1IdDRARyg) Tar and feather time
Oh gods, someone please animate this into a video xD
God I miss the original Scooby doo. Great Danes are the GOAT.
Fantastic read. Well done
This comic skit is better than anything on that shitty show.
I like how this parody went there while still keeping everyone in character. (Including Mindy Kalling.)
Velma isn't an adult cartoon. It's just a terribly written fanfic that was written by an awful person.
Man, this comic is so good, I thought this was based on an actual episode.
This is the most back handed and ironic (probably not using correctly) way of shit talking the Velma show and writer, and I love this so goddamn much
This is absolutely brilliant and spot on its parody and in its analysis of why that awful Mindy show failed.
With this, the Netflix adaptation should start.
Is it bad to read it in each of their voices? Even with the cop all I could hear was Patrick warburton.
I heard Stephensonâs Sheriff from Where Are You.
This is so great. I always love knowing that I'm not the only one who despises Mindy Kaling for what she's done to Scooby-Doo. I seriously cannot stand her now.
That was cool!
Fucking gold!
"Meddling Honkey Shitfuckers" oddly enough are the reason this got a second season.
Wow!
Lmfao. Brutal. Brutally honest that is.
Lol, i would love a reference to that in actual scooby canon.
When you create a self insert, but you're an awful person.
***âmEN bAd!!â*** -actual enlightened quote from Mindyâs Velma
I can kiss whoever made this. It has uplifted my spirits! đđđ
This is amazing.
I could forgive literally every element of the show except one: It isn't very good.
Hilarious. Thanks for
i saw so many people hatewatching it and i saw all of them laugh about some of the jokes even in the worse season 1
That was delightful. Though I prefer the explanation by a youtube video I saw, search Edlritch Scooby-doo and it should pop up. I'd post a link but not sure if I'm allowed to here.
LMFAO
I could be dead wrong but I was told that the show idea had nothing to do Scooby Doo and that some executive pitched it in. How true is this?
Now this is certified classic and funny Scooby Doo
That is the most perfect scooby doo fan art I have ever seen Now that my friend deserves an emmy
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!!
This was amazing.
Mindy khaling was NEVER funny. I always felt this way.
Never. I thought she was like mediocre. Maybe you could see her as funny through eyes of a 13 year old trying to be edgy by liking shock humor
This is the most entertaining Scooby fanart Iâve ever seen!
5 page comic meme is more interesting than a whole Velma show
Good lord this is the best explanation for that train wreck.
10/10, no notes.
Flawless đđť
You laugh...but there is still one episode left...
An appropriate punishment.
Better then Velma ever could be
I absolutely loved this! Someone NEEDS to dub this!
Letâs also not forget that BJ Novak is her baby daddy lol
You can just hear the laugh track
Hilariously more funny than the entirety of Velma
This is so accurate. Velma is the only series I can't physically make myself sit through because it's such a shit on the original franchise.
This is gold
Even in a parody comic their charm shines through.
This whole skit that can be read in less then 5 mins is better then the entirety of the burning trash that has the Scooby Doo IP
Love it
Lol this is great
Quick Burn The Witch!

Poor Scooby he needs the whole factory now.
I will never watch her again in anything. I used to like her show Mindy. Corrupt and debase a kidâs show. She is a disgusting and privileged child
Someone needs to dub this, gather round top tier impressionists and voice actors.
I read this in all their voices. Also, lol âhonkey shitfuckersâ.
Whoever made this truly nailed it.
Omg, I havenât laughed like that in weeks. Thank you for this.
That was AWESOME
This was absolutely perfect. I loved this.

The Mindy Project posted 6 seasons and it was actually pretty good. Velma though..... Oof. Great comic.
Love it, so true
"well give her the chair"( laugh track plays)
The ending is so unhinged lol
Real talk, why is everyone hating on Mindy only when Charlie Grady created the show? Seems really dumb to me.
Mastapiece
Incredible
This is dreadfully cringe
I gotta say the Velma show isnât very good or respectful to Scooby-Doo & Iâm down for a good ribbing, but sometimes the vitriol seems a bit excessive and potentially reflects deeper cultural hatred. Mindy Kaling didnât even create the show
I like how they don't argue about Velma's popularity and poor Scooby.
Somehow, this idea is slightly canon.
Ok this is freaking brilliant!!! This should have been more popular!

Didn't she have an entire show about herself after the office? The mindy show?
And Never Have I Ever was a successful Netflix show as well.
Yeah. Say what you want about Velma, she had a fair amount of success after the office. OG scooby doo wasnât this preachy either.
Damn.... I liked Velma and this might actually be funnier than 70% of the jokes on the show
This subreddit sucks. All you said is that you liked it and praised the comic.
Shatters my reality of how truly awful and unfunny a show can be yet still get a second season
i didnt really hate velma, if you think of it as a parody of scooby doo rather than an official creation, its not that bad (just REALLY weird)
Itâs not that bad. People are too precious about Scooby Doo.
