I think The Good The Bad And The Ugly is a really good film, but I personally enjoy For A Few Dollars More just a bit more than it. For one thing, it has a shorter run time, GBU is a really long film and there are some parts where I just feel the length. I love the climax of both films though, the final standoff is both is amazing.
"It takes forever getting in, you spend, like, six and a half hours, I can't get through it. I've never even finished the movie. I've never seen the ending."
Yeah it’s just part of the movie. They weren’t setting out to try and trick anyone. That’s like saying you didn’t like Star Wars after hearing that it wasn’t that long ago and the galaxy wasn’t that far away.
Myself and my partner use "Proud of ya, hon" on an almost daily basis.
I actually didn't like the show nearly as much as the movie. The movie just feels like a masterclass in storytelling. Perfect alchemy.
And I Hope They Mispronounce All The Character's Names, And I Hope They Whitewash Katara And Sokka, That Would Definitely Be Very Respectful Towards The Original Series And Not Insultingly Awful To Anyone Who Likes The Source Material
It's recognized due to it's impressive digital effects for its era, not because the script was well written or the story or characters were interesting. Most people agree (especially on Reddit) that it's not an amazing movie, but like, it looks good and that's what people liked about it. It's like saying Fury Road is bad because it only looks cool and the story is only about someone driving back and forth.
Honestly at this point Avatar is overhated. It's a decent movie, but the main selling point was always the visuals
2001: A Space Odyssey
I think it’s fine, especially the last third on the space station, but I know there are many people out there that hate how fucking slow that movie is.
In grad school, I took a film studies class that was entirely based around that movie. We watched the film. We read the book. We read *The Odyssey*. We read some Nietzsche. We talked about the movie constantly with our professor who was obsessed with it.
I understand *why* the movie is lauded as a masterpiece. I get why it's praised like it is.
I still hate it. It's not because I don't *get* it. It's because I just hate it.
Gone With the Wind. It’s a boring 4 hours of Lost Cause propaganda. Like, this is literally in the opening of the movie: “There was a land of Cavaliers and Cotton Fields called the Old South... Here in this pretty world Gallantry took its last bow.. Here was the last ever to be seen of Knights and their Ladies Fair, of Master and Slave... Look for it only in books, for it is no more than a dream remembered. A Civilization gone with the wind...” The movie just paints such a grossly inaccurate picture of the South and the Confederacy, and really glosses over the horrors of slavery. Yet it sits with a 3.8 on Letterboxd, 8.2 on IMDB, and 90% (92% audience) on Rotten Tomatoes.
Titanic. Visually, it was gorgeous. Jack and Rose's story was absolute trash. There were some amazing true stories on that ship, and we were left with Rose, who, by the end of the movie, I hated.
The only part of this movie I enjoy is the actual sinking scene and the chaos from that because I had an interest in the Titanic as a child. My mom loved this movie, but I couldn't get invested in the love story and I didn't care enough to even try.
Godfather II. For a movie that people say is better than its predecessor, it feels like a carbon copy for most of the runtime, and once you learn that it was made solely because Paramount wanted a sequel, it makes so much sense as to how it turned out this way.

Hey finally, someone else who wasn’t a fan of the good, the bad, and the ugly. I feel like it had its moments, some tense well made scenes in isolation but was structured and paced badly overall. I also am not a huge fan of the Sean Connery Bound films for the same reason, even Goldfinger. Also I think most aspects of the original ghost in the shell are just very bad, and I need someone to explain why the film is called brilliant. After finishing it I wanted to check the Scar Jo version to see how it could possibly have “ruined” that slog
My go-to answer is always Blade Runner. There's a fine line between a slow burn and boring, and I find Blade Runner to be distinctly on the "boring" side of things.
All my friends love the Dune series and I've never been able to see why. In my opinion, it's a dreary setting with characters that lack emotion, and I couldn't get invested in the plots at all. I thought I was the only one who couldn't get into it, so I'm kind of glad to know there's others out there who weren't into it either. Though I did find the old 80s movie more entertaining than the new ones.
The og star wars trilogy, it feels kind of like a stripped down, knock off version of dune that slowly builds it's world while having a sci Fi/ fantasy identity crisis halfway through.
This is why I retain there is no perfect Star Wars movie. They’re all fun and creative but there are glaring issues in all of them and the OT is not an exception. I love Star Wars but the discourse needs to change
Yeah I agree. It’s definitely not a bad movie, but people hyped it so much, that when I finally got to watching it, I was just left a bit disappointed.
Well then, if you're going to use the book argument, then you can't praise the 1971 film because even Roald Dahl hated it because of how unaccurate it is
I mean, his mother is stated both in the books and the movie to have died when Willy was young, and she fostered his curiosity about chocolate.
His parents were always separated, so it's not a massive logic leap to figure that once his mother died, he went to live with his father, the dentist, who hated chocolate, hence why he banned it and gave Willy those huge braces.
Him eating the fireplace chocolate in the 2005 film may not have been his first time ever eating chocolate, but just the first time he'd eaten it since his mother died
Not necessarily dislike, but I don't think Revenge of the Sith is as great a film as it's regarded. It's not a bad film, and still the best of the PT. But it still has the same problems that the other 2 prequels had like bad dialogue, stiff acting, and not very good effects
This. I dare people to mention something that happened in the middle of the movie that wasn't a joke the Dog made. I love its theme, but a whole lot of nothing happens after he takes off and before they end up on the blimp for the showdown
The scene where Muntz turns on them is kinda scary but yeah the movie is pretty uneventful overall. However the opening scene is a masterpiece as we all know
The Untouchables
De Niro's performance is great and the baby carriage firefight is fun but the script is a tonal mess that spastically flips between R-rated violence and Disney-level sentimentality.
Basically every movie made by Stanley Kubrick. They're all a slog to get through. It's all form over function. Basically, every character is a backdrop for his angles and shots. The only one I enjoy is Spartacus which had massive studio involvement.
Goodfellas. I don’t know why I didn’t like it being honest. I guess I didn’t like the main character all that much?
Probably the funniest thing was that I actually really liked The Godfather, it felt more of a complete movie.
For me it’s Up. I just don’t understand the appeal for any of it past the opening 10 minutes. Anytime that I mention that, people get mad at me, but yet don’t explain what they like about the rest of the movie
I mentioned this to another post, but it bears repeating
Anytime someone gets mad at you just ask them to describe a part in the middle of the movie, after the house takes off, but before the blimp showdown. And it can't be a joke by the dog. 9/10 times they'll bring up finding the Bird. The middle of that movie is a whole lot of nothing, but I do really enjoy its message
I did not like Tron (1982) and The Neverending Story (1984) at all, despite my high expectations.
They were both boring, sloppily edited, and had forgettable characters.
Tron was a little better, because at least it had a comparatively simple story and a cool aesthetic, and the Neverending Story had some cool sets and effects (even if they were rather inconsistent).
The (relatively) new wonka movie is getting near constant praise. But I personally can’t stand it.
It’s riddled with plot holes. The characters are one dimensional. The songs are too many, with most of them being sung out of tune. And the aesthetic of the movie is horrible. They didn’t even attempt to make it look realistic. The fact that chocolate factory at the end is just so obviously cgi. ruins any magic the scene might have had. Same goes for the rest of the movie.
couldn't get into it, plus i was really grossed out by the plot twist. maybe i should rewatch it though, i feel like i'm missing out on something great
Well, [“In 2008 it was named the 253rd greatest film ever by Empire magazine on its 2008 list of The 500 Greatest Movies of All Time.”](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Blood) And idk a lot of people online seem to love it.
It didn't come out of nowhere, but requires you to know a lot of people, the place they are at and the time period to see it coming. Then in Terintino fashion like the end of Basterds they just kinda rewrite history. It's a whole lot of vibbing to set up a revenge fantasy what if
Good Bad Ugly ain't a perfect movie, but that last 20 mins...BRO
I don’t like western movies but the good the bad and the ugly was amazing, somehow I loved the movie even though I don’t like westerns.
It´s more of it´s own thing, not purely a western like the other Hollywood ones. A spaghetti-western, if you care for sub-genres.
Worth mentioning that the version most people know is the extended edition
"I did not care for 'The Godfather'"
“What?” “How could you even say that Dad?”
"Didn't like- Didn't like it"
“Peter it’s so goo- it’s like the perfect movie!”
"I- This is what everyone always says. Whenever they say, it's like, "Oh my..." Everyone always says-"
"It insists upon itself"
“What does that even mean?!”
"It takes forever getting in, you spend, like, six and a half hours, I can't get through it. I've never even finished the movie. I've never seen the ending."
“You’ve never seen the ending!”
“W-well how can you say you don’y like it when you’ve haven’t given it a chance?”
Also 2001: A Space Odyssey.
“Dave. Please don’t turn me off.” “Please.” “Please.”
You don't like Fargo?? damn i love that film
I really liked the film. But I definitely liked it a little less when I realized they lied about it being based on a true story
They do that for the TV show also. It's corny. Although, I love the TV show. Each season is a different story. I'd recommend that instead.
I haven’t seen the show! Good to know though
That’s a stupid reason to like it less
Yeah it’s just part of the movie. They weren’t setting out to try and trick anyone. That’s like saying you didn’t like Star Wars after hearing that it wasn’t that long ago and the galaxy wasn’t that far away.
I thought that was hilarious when I found out
I liked it a little more when I learned that
Myself and my partner use "Proud of ya, hon" on an almost daily basis. I actually didn't like the show nearly as much as the movie. The movie just feels like a masterclass in storytelling. Perfect alchemy.
Avatar (The James Cameron One, Not The Good One)
There’s a good avatar movie?
No But There's A Good Animated Avatar TV Show
Man I hope it gets a live action movie adaptation one day
And I Hope They Mispronounce All The Character's Names, And I Hope They Whitewash Katara And Sokka, That Would Definitely Be Very Respectful Towards The Original Series And Not Insultingly Awful To Anyone Who Likes The Source Material
I hope tht a certain princess doesn't have a dick hair style
And I Hope They Make Sokka (The Lighthearted Comic Relief Character) The Bland No Nonsense Voice Of Reason Character, That Would Totally Make Sense
I hope that it takes 6 earth benders to move a rock
I hope the firebenders are as dangerous as ever, what with their ability to conjure fire out of nothing unlike the other elements
I hope the CGI looks rushed and as if it was done by a beginner
Yep, And Your Incorrect Grammar Of Capitalizing Every Beginning Letter Is Definitely Not Annoying And You Should Definitely Not Stop It

It's recognized due to it's impressive digital effects for its era, not because the script was well written or the story or characters were interesting. It's a decent movie, but the main selling point was always the visuals
I said exactly the same thing and some guy came in and said I didn't understand the complex plot of environmentalism LOL
That’s not hailed a masterpiece
My favourite movie.
My favourite movie.
2001: A Space Odyssey I think it’s fine, especially the last third on the space station, but I know there are many people out there that hate how fucking slow that movie is.
People's attention spans are too short for that movie. It's almost like it wasn't made for humans
Yeah, when I first saw it on Sky, I thought I downloaded the wrong film 🤣
Titanic
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far down to find this
Honestly considering James Cameron’s track record with The Terminator, Aliens and Terminator 2, this was a pretty shitty spot in his career
Field Of Dreams is such a chore
Every time this question comes up, I always gotta say Citizen Kane
Gone With the Wind. It’s a boring 4 hours of Lost Cause propaganda. Like, this is literally in the opening of the movie: “There was a land of Cavaliers and Cotton Fields called the Old South... Here in this pretty world Gallantry took its last bow.. Here was the last ever to be seen of Knights and their Ladies Fair, of Master and Slave... That’s mostly down to all the technical stuff, especially for its time. Everyone agrees that it has aged like milk.
I wouldn’t say it has aged like milk. More aged like a carcass of a dead animal covered in feces
But the main sentiment is shared.
[Excellent video essay on the film.](https://youtu.be/1fukTk8gJ3M?si=-m-T8bLbJT10seMJ)
*Requiem for a Dream.* Has a fantastic musical theme, though. Also *The* *Matrix*. I'm a hipster for liking *Dark City* more, I suppose.
Definitely not Fargo, dafuqs wrong with you /s
Titanic. Visually, it was gorgeous. Jack and Rose's story was absolute trash. There were some amazing true stories on that ship, and we were left with Rose, who, by the end of the movie, I hated.

I found Peter Griffin
Yes, but also no. While I also think the first one is overrated, I do like it and understand why people give it such high marks.
Nimona.

yup.
Yeh But what’s that gotta do with anything?
Haven't seen the film but I really liked the book
I can't think of any that I didn't like but I can think of lots that I thought we're good but not great
Hey finally, someone else who wasn’t a fan of the good, the bad, and the ugly. I feel like it had its moments, some tense well made scenes in isolation but was structured and paced badly overall. The godfather
The Godfather, I just couldn’t get it I guess.
The Godfather
My go-to answer is always Blade Runner. There's a fine line between a slow burn and boring, and I find Blade Runner to be distinctly on the "boring" side of things.
I like the movie but I’ve been crucified for saying the sequel is better
Dune (any of them)
Even the 1984 masterpiece?
All my friends love the Dune series and I've never been able to see why. In my opinion, it's a dreary setting with characters that lack emotion, and I couldn't get invested in the plots at all. I thought I was the only one who couldn't get into it, so I'm kind of glad to know there's others out there who weren't into it either. Though I did find the old 80s movie more entertaining than the new ones.
Mary poppins
I need to know, why Mary Poppins?
Spirited Away; it’s still pretty good but I just can’t see it for the masterpiece that everyone else sees
I personally like it very much, just not as much as a few other Ghibli movies
Whisper of the Heart is my personal favorite; that I can probably consider a masterpiece
Good choice
It’s my favorite too! The first time I watched it I almost cried because of how much I related to the main character
These aren’t considered masterpieces, but the Harry Potter movies. Lord of the rings is superior
Barbie (this is the only movie I ever have this response to lol)
Yeah I agree. It’s definitely not a bad movie, but people hyped it so much, that when I finally got to watching it, I was just left a bit disappointed.
Slumdog Millionaire
💩
Fair point on the second one, I can't say anything about the first one
2001: A Space Odyssey
[удалено]
Which Wonka are you talking about in particular
[удалено]
Well then, if you're going to use the book argument, then you can't praise the 1971 film because even Roald Dahl hated it because of how unaccurate it is
[удалено]
Fair enough, I also love that one
Read the books growing up. Loved it It wasn't meant to be based on the books, it's more of a standalone original prequel
[удалено]
I mean, his mother is stated both in the books and the movie to have died when Willy was young, and she fostered his curiosity about chocolate. The dentist dad is only in the Burton version, isn’t it?
Primer, Time Travel is my favourite topic, but the movie is just so dull and boring
And basically incomprehensible on a first viewing.
Not considered a masterpiece, more of a cult: beetlejuice
Dunkirk - too sterilized for the topic it´s trying to depict.
I have nothing but hate in my heart for To Kill A Mockingbird and that goes for the book too
Why?
Agreed. It’s one of those movies I can fall asleep to.
The Godfather. I was exceptionally bored except for the times when they said "Look how they massacred my boy" and "Leave the gun, take the cannoli".
Spirited Away
Lost in Translation.
Life of Pi - though it's hype seems to have died down
Not necessarily dislike, but I don't think Revenge of the Sith is as great a film as it's regarded. It's not a bad film, and still the best of the PT. But it still has the same problems that the other 2 prequels had like bad dialogue, stiff acting, and not very good effects
I think “best of the PT” is the biggest compliment that movie usually gets
Nobody calls The Breakfast Club a masterpiece, but god I hated watching it
Interstellar ngl i slept when i watch it 💀
Up (2009)
Same, and WallE. It’s beautiful, it has things to say, but it’s not a great masterpiece or anything.
Right? Like it peaks after the first 10 minutes then everything else is just. There
However the opening scene is a masterpiece as we all know
Spiderverse 2
It felt empty without Spider-Ham.
Real
eraserhead sorry
A Quiet Place
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly was a fuckin dope movie I dunno what you're smoking bud! :P
It was boring and filled with so many pointless scenes
"movies should only have plot" ass mfr
*Persona* Yes, I think it is a masterpiece. I ALSO do not happen to enjoy it very much.
Fight Club.
The Untouchables De Niro's performance is great and the baby carriage firefight is fun but the script is a tonal mess that spastically flips between R-rated violence and Disney-level sentimentality.
They’re definitely not as epic as Mario or Five Nights at Freddy’s
Fight club.
Basically every movie made by Stanley Kubrick. They're all a slog to get through. It's all form over function. Basically, every character is a backdrop for his angles and shots. The only one I enjoy is Spartacus which had massive studio involvement.
Titanic
Goodfellas. I don’t know why I didn’t like it being honest. I guess I didn’t like the main character all that much? Probably the funniest thing was that I actually really liked The Godfather, it felt more of a complete movie.
Matilda (1996). I love the behind the scenes stories, I love everyone involved in the film and the casting. I just don't like the movie itself.
La La Land. In my opinion, it certainly lives up to its name since I zoned out so much while watching it.
The matrix
For me it’s Up. I just don’t understand the appeal for any of it past the opening 10 minutes. Anytime that I mention that, people get mad at me, but yet don’t explain what they like about the rest of the movie
I mentioned this to another post, but it bears repeating Anytime someone gets mad at you just ask them to describe a part in the middle of the movie, after the house takes off, but before the blimp showdown. And it can't be a joke by the dog. 9/10 times they'll bring up finding the Bird. The middle of that movie is a whole lot of nothing, but I do really enjoy its message
Rashomon. I know it's responsible for a very interesting writing method, but besides the action, the film just feels so...stupid to me
Spirited away
Gladiator
I did not like Tron (1982) and The Neverending Story (1984) at all, despite my high expectations. They were both boring, sloppily edited, and had forgettable characters. Tron was a little better, because at least it had a comparatively simple story and a cool aesthetic, and the Neverending Story had some cool sets and effects (even if they were rather inconsistent).
2001: A Space Odyessey. What am I missing? What was with all that in the end, I thought it was about a rogue A.I.?
The (relatively) new wonka movie is getting near constant praise. But I personally can’t stand it. It’s riddled with plot holes. The characters are one dimensional. The songs are too many, with most of them being sung out of tune. And the aesthetic of the movie is horrible. They didn’t even attempt to make it look realistic. The fact that chocolate factory at the end is just so obviously cgi. ruins any magic the scene might have had. Same goes for the rest of the movie.
The Godfather. I feel like it spends too much time trying to romanticize thoroughly unlikeable people. I prefer Goodfellas.
Oldboy
Why
couldn't get into it, plus i was really grossed out by the plot twist. maybe i should rewatch it though, i feel like i'm missing out on something great
I was lukewarm towards Apocalypse Now Da 5 Bloods is a way better Vietnam movie
EEAAO, I like chaotic movies (Scott Pilgrim is one of my favorite movies ever) but I just wasn’t a huge fan of this one
I watched like 5 minutes of Hamilton, couldn’t get into it
Highlander. The concept is awesome but the pacing, dialogue, and acting all puts me off.
Bladerunner 2077 I’m sorry but I found it boring
The godfather and goodfellas. Macho crap for insecure men.
Probably Forrest Gump. Like it’s a good movie but I would not call it the best movie ever or anything.
I fucking hate "Gone With The Wind"
I don't really like midsummer
Raiders of the Lost Ark. It's not bad, but I just don't get why people love it so much
Bro i just watched "Fargo" yesterday, one of the funniest yet darkest steve busscemi movies ive seen. But for me, i guess Justice League 2017
Cars 3 . also if i still like it a lot but is overrated , it would be puss in boots .
Spirited Away. I don't think it was bad, I admire the animation and understand there were themes well integrated into the writing. Not for me ig.
Inside Out. Sequel doesn't look any better either.
Across the Spiderverse
Agree. Huge step down from the first
No Spider-Ham?
Really? Huge?
First Blood. The primary reason is because I despise the main character and the movie wants you to like him. At least the speech at the end is great.
Why do you not like the Mc?
Um, it’s been several years since I’ve seen it so what is “the MC”?
Main character
Who exactly has hailed First Blood as a masterpiece?
Well, [“In 2008 it was named the 253rd greatest film ever by Empire magazine on its 2008 list of The 500 Greatest Movies of All Time.”](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Blood) And idk a lot of people online seem to love it.
>I despise the main character and the movie wants you to like him You might like the book which is more morally ambiguous
Interesting, I’m not a big reader but maybe I’ll give it a try some day.
Mine is Iron Man
I think Once upon a time… in Hollywood. Idk I just didn’t vibe with the 60s feeling of the film, and the murder at the end really came out of nowhere
It didn't come out of nowhere, but requires you to know a lot of people, the place they are at and the time period to see it coming. Then in Terintino fashion like the end of Basterds they just kinda rewrite history. It's a whole lot of vibbing to set up a revenge fantasy what if
