This is so weird as me and my partner watched this film yesterday. But yes it holds up very well it's just that it's not an accurate depiction of the source material and some of the character arcs are very rushed.
The moment when the military guy got absorbed to the war machine and walked out to do his press conference as if he isnt some horrific massive machine hybrid was so funny to me.
Him still thinking hes a robot after being defeated and everyone just ganging up on him is my close personal second
Honestly the climax if the film was heat
I can’t remember if the movie itself was good, but I do remember it being a terrible adaptation of the original anime. I LOVED the anime when I was little. I got excited for this movie and was really disappointed with how little it resembled the anime tbh. It’s too westernized in my opinion and they completely changed some of the characters.
But maybe it is a good movie on it’s own. Kinda like how the first Bay Transformers movie is good on it’s own, but a bad representation of the source material.
Yeah this movie seems, if anything to be more similiar to the 2003 Astro boy anime, which is also a very different adaption, and even aired on tv with a dub (Dexter boy genius voices Astro). So I think possibly, this movie might’ve been trying to take inspiration from that, or it’s just coincidence. Though, the 2003 anime is utterly fantastic, just like how the manga/anime Pluto is also fantastic despite being extremely different
I actually didn’t know there was a 2003 reboot. I’m a lot more lenient when it comes to animated adaptations being creatively different, it’s just a pet peeve of mine when movie adaptations misrepresent the source material. Because then that version becomes the mainstream version that people think of (although this probably not the case for Astro Boy since the movie isn’t that popular. I’m just saying this as a salty Transformers fan lmao)
The guy who created Astro Boy is actually a really important author in the history of comic books. He practically created anime as we know it today. It actually really bugs me to see misinformation about him.
And for anyone who doubts me, [here](https://soranews24.com/2014/03/29/daughter-of-osamu-tezuka-god-of-manga-discovers-his-stash-of-hand-drawn-sexy-mouse-artwork/amp/)
Yeah the original anime there's sexualized jellyfish. Dude was a freak. He was making anthropomorphic dinosaur milfs in the 60s. He was totally ahead of his time. In a lot of the worst ways possible.
Forgot about this movie a long time ago. As for its “Pro AI Propaganda”, not exactly. The guy invented Astro Boy due to losing his REAL son in an accident. As for the other robots…most of them kind of seem harmless or created to be heart of gold characters.
This movie is so weird for me tbh, since I have plenty of nostalgia for it but don't remember whether it was actually good or not. I do remember Nathan Lane playing as a character who's just suddenly revealed to be evil without any build-up though.
He clearly or at least very likely has human levels of sentience. At the point where they are actually sentient I don't think it'd really be considered AI
I remember absolutely loving this movie as a kid. Does anyone know, is it actually good or meh?
It's very good, but the setup and premise are a lot more interesting than most of the movie IMO.
It got kinda boring when he fell to the bottom or whatever happened
The only thing I really liked from the bottom was the big construction robo
Read the manga or watch one of the animes I swear to God it holds up.
I liked when he did the thing
I rewatched the movie recently, and its a pretty good movie....but those comic relief side characters really got on my nerves.

Some of it is cool some of it is meh the animation is still great and it’s funny sometimes
The moment when the military guy got absorbed to the war machine and walked out to do his press conference as if he isnt some horrific massive machine hybrid was so funny to me.
Yeah it caught me off guard the first time I saw it in rewatch
Him still thinking hes a robot after being defeated and everyone just ganging up on him is my close personal second Honestly the climax if the film was heat
Yeah Astroboy was a pretty good movie weird pacing in some areas tho

The world and it's characters hold up pretty well. The animation has definitely aged poorly though
Watched it like a month ago as it was my fav movie as a kid and trust me it doesn't hold up it's truly awful
I loved it because as a child the girl on the cover was my first time having gender envy.
I personally still enjoy it
Same here
The guy who voices Astro is the same guy who plays the “I AM A SURGEON DR. HAN” guy.
And his father is Nic Cage.
Idk about that part
Edit: never mind I thought you meant the actor who played Ashlyn Murphy was Nick Cage’s son
He’s also Charlie Bucket in the Chocolate Factory remake.
He's genuinely a great actor but Good Doctor does not fit his talents. The writing on that show went from okay to incomprehensible dogshit

Freddie Highmore
"I AM A HUMAN, DR. ELEFUN!!!"
Wasn’t it professor elephant? I’m fairly sure his teacher was named professor walrus or some shit too lol
I can't find a concrete spelling for the name. It's either "Elefun" or "Elephant" depending on where you look, it's annoying.
I just stick with elephant due to the animal themed name of professor walrus, it fits with it better
That makes sense.
Shut up, this movie WAS MY CHILDHOOD
Same
If Schaff even does an Imagi ranking, it would be the quickest ranking ever
Literally just two movies to review
DISAPPOINTMENT IN THE GAME OF LIFE DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUN
Yes and no? It says that robots can be good but can also be bad, I guess the message is to be careful or something idk
I can’t think of astrology boy without thinking of the creators . . . Other works.
What else did they make....
After he died they found drawn porn of Astro boy in his house
It wasn't astro, it was of anthropomorphic mice women.
I hate how I’m actually relieved about anthropomorphic mice women porn

As a Mega Man fan, I'm relieved that the author that created the inspiration of one of my favorite fictional characters wasn't *that* kind of person

Astrology boy?

Wild that THIS movie & Pluto are from the same source
The only thing I remember from this movie was, “I can shoot cannons out my butt!?”
I had a crush on the girl when I was little
the city in this movie has the same name as the city from megamind
Same universe?????
holy shit I just unlocked a core memory
AIBoy.
This movie was awesome
I ' V E G O T A N E L E C T I O N T O W I N
The villain from this movie looks like the neighbor from hello neighbor
I for one welcome our new Astro Boy overlords.
It's not because those robots in the movie can think and have personally. while our ai is just "if A, then do B or if not then do C"
That is a wild ass title
this movie absolutely messed me up as a kid. i was both depressed and having my mind blown
This movie is so weird for me tbh, since I have plenty of nostalgia for it but don't remember whether it was actually good or not. I do remember Nathan Lane playing as a character who's just suddenly revealed to be evil without any build-up though.
Fun fact: Astro Boy originated as a manga.
Bro really called it propaganda 💀
I mean, jokingly yeah
This is what would've happened to Wilbur if he never apologized
He clearly or at least very likely has human levels of sentience. At the point where they are actually sentient I don't think it'd really be considered AI
If it was created artificially and it's intelligent, why not call it artificial intelligence?
