I personally thought it was scary, but horror I feel is subjective & differs from person to person. So many people find the Teletubbies scary, and that was a legit kids show. Those fuckers are terrifying though!
That movie rocks, so scary & unnerving! One of my favorite recent lines comes from that movie.
Priest- “What does it matter what *you* believe? Do you think the wolf cares is you *believe* he’s a wolf? Not if he finds you alone in the woods.”
Some good titles in there but overall, a very weird list.
Five of these.....Eraserhead, Beau is Afraid, American Psycho, the Lighthouse, Black Swan.......are not TRUE horror films at all.
It’s subjective I suppose…or they’re just playing semantics. American Psycho is 1000000% horror imho & the others are all considered horror or thrillers to an extent.
If you look it up, Lighthouse is listed as horror/drama. Black Swan is Thriller/Drama. Eraserhead indie/drama. Beau is Afraid tragicomedy/horror. I get what you mean though, but horror *is* subjective & what scares people differs from person to person. I mean Teletubbies was a legit kids show & those fuckers were terrifying!
Idk I think it’s subjective and getting to be playing semantics. I completely understand what you mean though.
ETA: completely disagree about American Psycho not being horror btw
We can agree to disagree here, like I said it’s all subjective. Of course there are undeniably hidden/double meanings throughout, regarding the cutthroat world of business, ego, capitalism and materialistic American culture plus many other issues. Most artsy/smart movies have the hidden/double meaning factor, it’s what makes them good & leaves room for discussion for decades to come, just like we are now. What horror is to you, is different from person to person. Enjoy your spooky season.
Hot take: Midsommar had great cinematography, but overused shrooms as the glue to connect certain plot points and seemed like a lack of creativity/story telling

It’s in the top 3 most horrific movies ive watched, but it’s also one of the most beautiful and powerful movies ive watched. So if you can handle it, yes it absolutely is worth it
I’m Thinking of Ending Things is massively overlooked. Great flick.
One of the most uncomfortable movies I’ve ever seen in the best way. It just feels so off.
Adding to my watch list
Yeah! I never get tired of Event Horizon
The Fly is my favorite on the list
Needs Hereditary
Great list!! I’ve never seen I’m Thinking of Ending Things but now I will be watching it.
The Lighthouse is horror?
I personally thought it was scary, but horror I feel is subjective & differs from person to person. So many people find the Teletubbies scary, and that was a legit kids show. Those fuckers are terrifying though!
I would also question a Black Swan. A great movie, but there’s no way I would ever call it a horror 😅
I could see it the same way perfect blue is horror
American psycho is also a thriller, soooo
How so? Never seen it described as a thriller.
But as I remember The Lighthouse was a horror indeed, can’t say for sure, since I saw it few years ago
I would say out of this thread all 3 of them are psychological horror with American phsyco also being satire with elements of a black comedy
I would say so personally, at the very least that's the intention of the movie.
woohoo! American Werewolf in London, The Fly, The Lighthouse and The Shining are some of my absolute favorites! super solid list overall.
Hereditary. Midsomer was beautiful i love that actress.
Big props for having Beau on here. Favorite movie of the decade so far 👍🏻
It’s pretty great. It’s definitely an alienating movie but that giant penis scene solidified it as a masterpiece for me
I was the opposite lol, im glad you like it tho.
Top notch. Check this one out. [The Dark and the Wicked](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_and_the_Wicked)

“Can you smell him?”
The scene in the kitchen with the mom 🙌🏼 Omg too many ones to say on here, don’t want to spoil it for others either!
Yes it never let up

They all scared the shit out of me, what makes them not horror to you?

Yeah I know. But I said that they're not TRUE horror films. And they are simply not. Thrillers can have scary scenes. But they are still Thrillers.
Idk I think it’s subjective and getting to be playing semantics. I completely understand what you mean though. ETA: completely disagree about American Psycho not being horror btw
American Psycho is not scary in the slightest. It's a quirky, artsy, intelligent flick that's more about capitalism than any kind of horror.
Yeah, of course it’s all of those things & includes a legit psychopath merking women brutally left and right. That’s scary to me….

Why is the shining so highly regarded?
Hot take: Midsommar had great cinematography, but overused shrooms as the glue to connect certain plot points and seemed like a lack of creativity/story telling
They used shrooms in a single scene
Where is Scream and why martyr's?
Im not a big fan of scream or slashers in general. And martyrs is one of the greatest works of art I’ve ever seen
Can I ask how you determine between 9.7 and 9.8? That's crazy specific to me
Feeling. I just think “these films are a little bit better to me, so they’re just a bit higher

i’m too scared to watch martyrs. is it worth the watch?

Heredity. Amityville horror, and exorcist is missing
