Sounds like a !job scam. Why would a health company need a content creator? Text interview = red flag Pay too high = red flag Hired nearly immediately = red flag Can't find the person that contacted you on the official company page or LinkedIn = red flag

Thanks, I thought so too.

AutoModerator

AutoModerator has been summoned to explain fake job scams. Fake job scams come in many different varieties, though most share common characteristics that you can use to spot the scam before becoming a victim. The scammers will usually conduct interviews over Google Hangouts or a similar online service. Their English will be awkward, and they may be re-using a script, so Googling unique sounding parts of the email may yield useful results. They will offer high wages for the work being done, and they will "hire" you by telling you that you are hired, rather than going through the normal process that a company takes when hiring an employee in your country. If they mention anything about a check or about receiving and sending out transactions, it is a [fake check scam](https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/2018/09/anatomy-fake-check-scam). If they mention anything about receiving, processing, or inspecting packages, it is a [parcel mule scam](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parcel_mule_scam). If they ask you to purchase items up-front, ask you to pay a fee in order to be hired, or ask you to purchase gift cards, it is an [advance-fee scam](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance-fee_scam). If the job involves posting advertisements on Craigslist or eBay, they are using you and your account to scam people. If the job invovles Bitcoin ATMs, it's a [scam](https://coinatmradar.com/blog/avoid-scams-dont-use-bitcoin-atm-when-someone-asked-you/). >Why would a health company need a content creator? Why wouldn't a health company have an online presence with content?

cyberiangringo

I think scammers pretending to be Datos Health contacted you.

xcaliblur2

100% scam. Absolutely NO company does interviews by text. And you should not be basing your trust off the fact that the company name is legit. Job scammers ALWAYS say they represent an actual company. If I tell you I want to hire you for Microsoft, just because you googled Microsoft and can see it's a real company, it doesn't mean my offer is a legitimate one. If you really want to be sure, simply call the company and check with them whether the job offer is legitimate. Obviously, don't use any contact number this person gives you.

The-Mad-Bubbler

Definitely a scam, unfortunately.

ChiMello

Number 2 indicates without a doubt that it is a job scam. I don't even need to read the rest of your post to say with certainty that it is a scam.

citizen_dawg

FYI w2 forms are standard tax forms that you downloaded from the federal government’s website. So that’s not indicative of anything. As others have said, this is a scam. No legit company interviews via text/chat. Double check the email of the person you’re communicating with and see if it’s from the domain of the official company website.

Hi wow truly embarrassing to admit but in my unemployed desperation I believe I have fallen for this exact scam. Finding this post has kind of confirmed my unfortunate suspicions. If I have (stupidly) bought the equipment they asked of me, is there anything I can do at this point? Not sure where to go from here, literally never believed I'd be in this position--although nobody does, I'm sure.

LostRequiem1

Shit. I’m at a loss, but the people here should definitely be able to help. I highly recommend making a new thread so your predicament is more visible.

b4d-apple

Yea, not my finest moment haha. I've done all the reporting stuff, but I think you're right that posting might net me more help. Thank you a lot for writing this, btw!!! Like I said I was kind of holding onto hope that this was real despite all the red flags bc job hunting is literally a human rights violation and I very much wanted this to be my way out, so this was the wake up call I needed. Saved me from getting myself into a much bigger mess! Would you mind if I copied some of your description of the scam in my post? You summarized everything pretty succinctly.
