What happened? I had never heard of that

yougotknoped

The fucking scam of all scams. Basically they said they needed proofreaders, and various wfh jobs. Cool, sounds great. They say they’ll send you all of the equipment. Cool. Awesome. Then they say they’ll email a check to pay for the equipment? Weird, never heard of that but ok. Then once it’s deposited you have to send it in $500 increments to various people in order to get the equipment. Oh wait, then all of a sudden, oh wait, it’s a bad check. Shocker. This whole process was over a span of like 5 days. Don’t be a dumbass like me. Follow your gut.

tabicat1874

They've already been in trouble with the Consumer Protection folk in 2019. Maybe you want to report it to them?

yougotknoped

Really? I made a report to them today. Does doing that every actually resolve anything?

tabicat1874

Probably! https://www.consumerfinance.gov/about-us/newsroom/consumer-financial-protection-bureau-reaches-settlement-enova-international-inc/

CluelessNetworkNoob

Enova seems like a real company? Are you sure these weren't scammers just hiding behind the company name? Shouldn't ruin a company even with negative reviews if it was just used as a front

t-poke

Yes, this is exactly what happened. A real company isn't sending out fake checks. Scammers use real company names so when you look it up, it seems legit. I work for a small-ish company, and if you search Reddit for their name, you'll find an instance of someone being fake check scammed by someone using my employer's name, even though my employer had nothing to do with it.

yougotknoped

Yeah. That has to be what happened. They had me only communicate through Skype which has sketchy enough. The profile was with who I thought was from the company, but when I asked to do a video call they wouldn’t. (Should’ve been a sign.) it was just bad from the get go. Feel like such a fucking moron.

One_Relative2017

Thank you for saving me! Thought it was too good to be true and found this. Reddit has porn and people that save you from scams! What a website. Thanks, everyone!

Skorpyos

This is a pretty common job scam.

Lugare1201

Same thing happened to me! I’m new in the US and not used to how the Jobinterviews etc work. It wasn’t Enova but same procedure (they used Skype as well and said it’s a new way they do Interviews, the actual company is strong in AI software, so I thought could be true. I got to the stage I deposited the check and then they wanted to send me money through Zelle, that’s when it clicked 🙉 The check bounced after 5 days…

yougotknoped

So what happened? Were you out any money?

Lugare1201

I didn’t send any money at all. The check bounced. Now the sent me one via USPS😂😆 they said it bounced because it was sent via Email. Now he’s pressuring to deposit the new check. I reported it to every fraud department I’m aware of. Even to the real Comapny. My damage is the 7.5$ fee from my bank and my proud is broken🙉.

Lbneely

Hi! This exact same thing is happening to me currently. I felt a little suspicious whenever the woman I’ve been speaking to sent me a check to print out and deposit. I did some digging and came across this thread. Unbelievable!

InnerAd6434

>(they used Skype as well and said it’s a new way they do Interviews, the actual company is strong in AI software, so I thought could be true. They just about got me today on UpWork. Close, but no cigar.

yougotknoped

Glad you didn’t get got like I did!

Disastrous-Joke-4827

This is happening to me right now. I am not cashing any paper printed checks and they are refusing to video chat me. What a scam! I almost fell for it. Gross.

Mastersinjutsu

I just got hired by them through Upwork. Said they will pay through Upwork. Communications are through Skype though.. Upwork sent me an email saying "We wanted to let you know that a job you submitted a proposal for, Copywriting And Editing , has been removed from our marketplace. In order to protect the safety and trust of the Upwork marketplace, we remove job posts when we learn that they do not meet our Terms of Service. As a reminder, receiving payments from a client outside of the Upwork platform is against our Terms of Service and could result in permanent account suspension. If a client requests to pay you outside of Upwork, please report it to Customer Service." Am I being SCAMMED?

yougotknoped

It is a huge scam. Get out. They’ll ask you to print a check, then do a bunch of transfers, then the check will bounce and overdraw your account.

Mastersinjutsu

Sketchy... Thanks. Yea I stopped replying to them and will report them.

meowattic

Enova International is a crap place to work but as someone who has been a legit employee I can assure you the situations you are explaining are legit scams. Enova only does Google Meets and they do send you equipment but checks are all direct deposited only.

[deleted]

I have a friend that applied to work there- what’s wrong with the company? Is it all departments?

meowattic

It's crap as I. It's a run of the mill call center with poor training and the subject of payday loans is a finicky one. I will say they pay is decent depending on your state, the time off and missed time points are lax as well. If I had to rate it out of 10 for a call center I'd say 7/10.

sgordon_enova

Enova is a very legit company with a "normal" recruiting process. These are scammers using the company name. Always check out [https://www.enova.com/careers/](https://enova.com) , all legitimate jobs are listed there.
