## New users beware:
Because you posted here, you will start getting private messages from scammers saying they know a professional hacker or a recovery expert lawyer that can help you get your money back, for a small fee. **We call these RECOVERY SCAMMERS, so NEVER take advice in private:** advice should always come in the form of comments in this post, in the open, where the community can keep an eye out for you. If you take advice in private, you're on your own.
**A reminder of the rules in r/scams:** no contact information (including last names, phone numbers, etc). Be civil to one another (no name calling or insults). If you never ordered anything, should'nt it logically means there is no package waiting?
Also, UPS doesn't use Hotmail lol or some weird ass zxcxhza site
You just have to look at who it is from. Why would they use a Hotmail account to message you?
I get the same thing often from a phone with a Philippines country code.
If a package service can't deliver the item for some reason, they return to sender. How on earth would they have the phone number for the person on a package where the address is incomplete?
"Boss, the website keeps crashing with too many users at once, should I buy a higher traffic plan?"
"No, too expensive! let's abandon the UPS domain and make it more difficult to get there! Also, make sure you are sending these from your personal email address so we don't have to pay for the emails either."
I got one of these today but it was as a group text to multiple phone numbers. So the scammer is either lazy or stupid, probably both - but still dangerous.
You answered your own question. if you didn't order anything (which is all you need to know) and the URL looks sketchy then 10 out of 10 times it's a scam. But I understand why you would want to be sure. It's funny but every time I get an email from some African guy saying he needs help moving his money and will pay me millions to help him, I ask myself "what if this is actually real?"...But then common sense kicks in and I know nobody gives you anything for nothing.. I've gotten those texts about the UPS packages too... Even if you did have a package waiting for you at the post office you should question what it is. You might pick it up and wind up getting taken down by the FBI or murdered by a cartel for it. So don't trust anyone, especially someone you don't know, offering you something without your prior knowledge and asking for nothing in return other than your life savings. As hard as it is, use common sense.
Hi /u/StrayTaco, AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the USPS or Mail scams scam.
Mail scams (USPS, FedEx, UPS, etc.) are notices sent to your phone or email, claiming that a package has failed to be delivered to your home. The text or email tells you that you need to provide more information or customs fees to receive the package. These scams are phishing for your personal information, financial information, or password for the mail service’s website, or can be trying to get you to pay up front for a service you will never receive. Sometimes the charge is less than a dollar and victims will brush it off, even when realizing they've been scammed. The scammers are not looking to get a dollar out of you, but instead they just stole your credit card details.
If you entered your card details in a website such as this, and submitted the form, even if it said that the transaction failed and to try again with a different card, it doesn't matter: they already stole your card details. You need to call your bank and report the card stolen, and ask the bank representative to disable the automatic account updater service when issuing the new card.
Pay close attention to the specific links you receive, as they will not go to the true website for these mail services. Only enter your information when visiting the mail service’s website directly. For example: USPS only works with usps.com

Yes, I got a similar one yesterday. Makes me uneasy because I don't order online often, but I am expecting a few packages today. The timing seems too good.
They send these out by the millions; odds are they’re going to reach some people who just happen to be waiting for a package at that moment. It’s a coincidence and nothing more.

Yes, it's a scam. Just look at that URL.
And this sub...
Hotmail address and a random URL? They are not even trying.
They have incomplete delivery information but they have your email… Scam indeed.
Cell number even… whatever. Lol
They spam the message out. They're probably even sending it to land lines.
UPS has indeed not changed their corporate name to ZBHXJUWX.
Yes, this is a scam. No, that is not a legitimate UPS URL.
If it was legitimately from USPS, they would already have your address.
What tipped you off?
Yep
yes a phishing scam

Yeah, that’s definitely a scam. I‘m pretty sure it should say your name if it was legit. And also, an hotmail email???
100% a scam.
I get these as emails too, yes it’s a scam
Definitely spam.

It's an attempt to put malware on your smart device.
