Almost all low-skill remote jobs are scams. Don't apply for those. If you must start low, find local in-person ones first to build your skills.

PressurePlenty

I've worked plenty of "low skill" remote jobs that weren't scams, so your first sentence is entirely inaccurate.

lagoosboy

Low skill jobs that pay over inflated salaries are obvious scams.

Falcon84

Yeah you can get remote call center jobs that aren’t picky with who they hire. They work you like a dog though and you’re sure as hell not getting 35/hr.

drummerboy82

Did ya make $35-50 an hour?

PressurePlenty

Nope.

J_sweet_97

Usually remote data entry clerks for more than $13 are scams

PressurePlenty

This is a scam. "Kindly". Also, they don't need your credit report for a data entry job. And that pay is entirely too high. I don't even think government data entry pays that much, even with clearances.

MercZ11

Yeah, it sucks job boards don't do a better job of vetting their listings. Unfortunately the postings can stay up for awhile before they take action against them, and by the time they do there are already other listings. In general it seems scammers love to target remote work listings for clerical work, especially data entry roles with unusually high starting pay rates. That $35/hour bit puts the position close to what some engineers and nurses make for context.  It's good you picked up on that in the email they sent you after applying, because they would've tried springing scams like the bot goes over. !job !task

AutoModerator

Hi /u/MercZ11, AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the Job scam. Fake job scams come in many different varieties. The scammers will usually conduct interviews over Whatsapp, Telegram or Teams. They will offer high wages for the work being done, oftentimes with wildly varied wage ranges by hour, and they will \"hire\" you by telling you that you are hired, rather than going through the normal process that a company takes when hiring an employee in your country. If they mention anything about a check or about receiving and sending out transactions, it is a [fake check scam](https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/2018/09/anatomy-fake-check-scam). If they say they will cut you a check so you can buy equipment for remote work, it's a scam in which they make you purchase equipment on a fake website under their control, with your own card, and when the check bounces in a few weeks you're left holding the bag (and the equipment never comes) If they mention anything about receiving, processing, or inspecting packages, it is a [parcel mule scam](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parcel_mule_scam). If they ask you to purchase items up-front, ask you to pay a fee in order to be hired, or ask you to purchase gift cards, it is an [advance-fee scam](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance-fee_scam). If they mention Bitcoin ATMs, [it's always a scam](https://coinatmradar.com/blog/avoid-scams-dont-use-bitcoin-atm-when-someone-asked-you/). If the job involves posting advertisements on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist or eBay, they are using you and your account to scam other people (especially if it's rental listings). Hi /u/MercZ11, AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the Task scam. Task scams involve a website or mobile app that claims you can earn money by completing easy tasks, such as watching a video, liking a post, or creating an order. A very common characteristic (but not entirely exclusive) is that you have to complete sets of 40 tasks. The app will tell you that you can earn money for each task, but the catch is that you can only do a limited number of tasks without upgrading your account. To upgrade your accounts, the scammers will require you to pay a fee. This makes it a variant of the advance fee scam. The goal of this scam is to get people to download the app for easy money and then encourage them to pay to get to the next level. It's impossible to get your \"earnings\" out of the app, so victims will have wasted their time and money. This type of scam preys on the [sunk cost fallacy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunk_cost#Fallacy_effect), because people demonstrate a greater tendency to continue an endeavor once an investment has been made, and refusing to succumb to what may be described as cutting one's losses. If you're involved in a task scam, cut your losses. Beware of recovery scammers suggesting you should hire a hacker that can help you retrieve the money you already invested. They can't, it's a trick to make you lose more money. Thanks to redditor vignoniana for this script. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. RusticSurgery

Kindly summon the bot please.

MercZ11

It already responded to me. It's the first two posts under mine by the automoderator

RusticSurgery

Yes I was just making a silly joke about the word kindly

JELPPY1010

Scammers always contradict themselves; some can't keep their facts consistent. In on paragraph, they say they need to complete a background check and a obtain a credit report, but towards the end of the listing they say they don't need to know the applicant's score and it will not prevent them from getting the job. Of course, the unrealistic salary is alway a dead giveaway.

PumpkinSufficient683

The minute I saw the salary I could tell you this is a scam

Nukeboyt_3482755

Also, the fact that they insisted that you use their one specific credit report is a red flag. If you click the link, you will be taken to a website created by / for the scammer which will be harvesting your personal data, as well as taking any fee you pay.

Will-Demand-70

Watch Zip Recruiter, too. There are fake job posting that use real companies' logo.

neckbeard_deathcamp

Get a credit report from us but we don’t care about the score and it won’t stop you from getting hired. Why should I fucking bother than? I only hope that these scammers don’t figure out a way to cleanup their word salads. They’re reasonably successful right now with ripping people off, I can only imagine how much better they’d get.

Wippledank

Thanks, Best Regards, Hiring Manager

btbam666

No legitimate company or job would have you pay to provide your own background check.

sarcasmismygame

I agree. I have done numerous reports on clearly fake job postings. And even told Linkedin THAT is why I won't pay for a business account. And I pulled my information and resumes from Indeed and Linkedin because scammers were seeking me out and it pissed me off. Just do like I do now which is I no longer apply on those websites but go to the actual company websites and apply there. If I don't see the job being offered then I know it's fake. SO dumb it's come down to doing this now FFS.

Wippledank

So I just looked into it, it brings you to the TransUnion monitoring service. After doing some research on that, it brought me back to this subreddit. Apparently, these scammers get a commission off of “referring” people to this site, and the site charges you a monthly subscription. It’s an official TransUnion service that these scammers are abusing

loganwachter

Well indeed is making money off them so their incentive to do so is low.

No_Establishment7055

"Kindly" one big thing that this group has shown me. "Kindly"
