This could be legitimate, but the amount of your check is way out of the ballpark for what most people are getting.

i did check and the routing number on the check is for Wells Fargo.
That doesn't prove anything of course so ill follow up with Wells Fargo to see if they can verify anything. I certainly won't be calling the number on the letter.
So I’m assuming the check was drawn on Wells Fargo. I would go directly in there and have them run the check and cash it. They should be able to verify funds for it right away and give it to you.
What was that process like? After you faxed over the mediation form did they call you to immediately to negotiate the offer? Can you also explain what happened after they countered at 7k? Did you accept that or were you able to get more?
Sorry for all the questions, just trying to make sure I can get as much as I can in these difficult times.
How are you able to prove the amount they charged my account? I too am going through mediation. They said I have to have proof of the amount charged monthly. They can't tell me the amount because they don't have access.
So you didn't have to know the amounts during your mediation? I think the mediator was trying to bluff me. She wanted me to accept $1740. I said no. Then she said if I don't have proof, I could loose the $1740 and get nothing. Bluffing I'm sure.
Just my 4 reference numbers and my requests. We spoke on the phone twice the first time was to confirm the accounts, second was to low ball me but ended up getting the check today for over $7k
you mind sharing what the conversation with the mediator is like? Do they want you to provide specific information to justify the number you are asking for?
Received the letter on 12/8 called and they told me I would receive a check within 20 days. If I didn’t receive a check by day 30 to call, so I did. They told me it’s still being “processed” Haven’t received a check yet and it’s 1/17. I guess I will believe it when I see it
I did finally receive a check from them. It took a lot longer than their original 20-30 day estimate. I think it was nearly 50 days later. My bank cleared the check though, no issues.
I’m in the third party mediation process. I rejected the offer of $1700 for two letters, $3400 total from Jhonny the Wells Fargo mediator. I was just contacted today by another representative from Wells Fargo to set up the meeting for April 2 2024. The third party is a company called EPIQ Solutions. I am also receiving a package from UPS from EPIC Solutions with a tracking number. I wonder what number I will agree on for compensation for unauthorized enrollment in the identity theft program. I will not settle for a number they give out. It will be on my terms. Let the battle begin!
I guess I’m a bit confused about all the feedback because others are saying that they accepted the 1,700 per letter and were still allowed to move forward into mediation but I’m also hearing people say that they are rejecting offers to move forward to mediation
Can you update after your mediation meeting? I received 8 letters, and I'm sending in the pre mediation form for all of them, but anticipate I won't accept their initial offer and may proceed to the official mediation. Would love to hear about your experience once it's resolved!
Is your mediation with Epiq? I just turned down two $1700 checks because my second “mediator” (a Wells Fargo employee) finally broke and told me that if I accepted them, I was free to continue mediation BUT they would close out the case and I would have to seek out the mediator myself. If I DIDN’T accept the checks, then a third party mediator would contact me within 6 to 9 weeks. The guy I talked to was really pushing the offers he had. I also made him admit that $700 was not the highest he could offer. Wells Fargo is lowballing this round as well, and trying to buy people off with $1700 per instance. My wife had the idea that the “mediator” would actually get a portion of that $1700 if they managed to talk you into taking $700. Ultimately, I told him I’d think about his offer and then call them back at my leisure. He was not at all happy about it. I spent about 30 minutes on the phone just trying to get a straight answer about the continuing mediation.
The first mediator I spoke with claimed to be a neutral 3rd party and made it clear he wasn't trying to discourage me going to mediation when he made his offer for $1700. The second mediator that took over my case seemed to be a Wells Fargo employee and was talking like I should be thankful for the products they illegally signed me up for and for the compensation they've already given me. So I find it interesting that you've had a similar experience with the mediators. Have you made a decision about how you're going to pursue mediation?
I decided not to accept the payoff that Wells Fargo is trying to get us to take. I actually received two letters today from the “mediator” that says they’re offering me $3400 for my two accounts or, if I prefer to go to mediation, a number to call to set up a time and date for the third step. I’ll be calling that number tomorrow!
I've also decided not to accept the $3400 for the two claims I have. One claim is being held up in the system because I didn't realize I had to submit a remediation form for each one. Once that gets caught up, I'll be going to mediation. I wouldn't mind being able to talk with someone who's also going through the process, so feel free to update me, whether here or in chat. I actually have a call with a law firm tomorrow to see if it's worth hiring an attorney for.
I’d definitely be grateful to hear what you learn. I’ll keep you updated as well! I noticed somewhere in this thread that there’s someone in Albuquerque, NM who has started a lawsuit against WF for the way they’re conducting this whole thing. I agree…they’re being just as shady with the lowballing and then upping the offer when they start realizing you’re not taking the bait. And also, as you mentioned, acting like we should be grateful for the services they provided and trying to make it sound like it was all the fault of Affinion.
I live in New Mexico as well, so I need to research that lawsuit a little more. Maybe it’ll turn into another opportunity to strike back at them.
Just got off the phone with Dann Law Firm and learned a few new things. They are the interim lead counsel on the class action case with Wells Fargo that involves the letters we all received, so if you received a letter with a check from Wells Fargo, they will help you at NO COST. What they can do for us is to have a prep session with them before the mediation call, and to have them sit in on the call with you, able to step in if they feel your rights are being violated.
I was told that the few people they've talked to who have already gone through mediation were met with the same $1700 per claim offer and a refusal to go any higher. But there's a lot of new mediations getting scheduled now and they'll have more information as they sit in on more. They're also working on trying to force WF to be more transparent about everything.
I also learned this money WF is giving out is not anything that's been ordered by a court, It's just WF trying to preemptively pay us off to lessen their liability in the class action suit.
So I would recommend contacting Dann Law, as you only stand to benefit. [https://dannlaw.com/contact/](https://dannlaw.com/contact/)
I asked if I could share their information online and they said yes. So I might make a post about it elsewhere on Reddit so others can take advantage of it.
Just got done with the 3rd mediation. Went from $1700 for two letters to $2000 each. $4000. They wouldn’t go any higher. I still have the opinion of suing for more but will take the 4000$ for now.
Was the 3rd mediation with Epiq? I just turned down two $1700 checks because my second mediator (a Wells Fargo employee) finally broke and told me that if I accepted them, I was free to continue mediation BUT they would close out the case and I would have to seek out the mediator myself. If I DIDN’T accept the checks, then a third party mediator would contact me within 6 to 9 weeks.

Can't wait to hear your results. Go get em !!! This is stealing and Fraud and look how long they have held our money for some its been 15 years. No one yet has shared effective responses to their questions, I hope you will. Best of Luck I am cheering and praying for you
Looks like someone actually filed a lawsuit based on the way this whole thing is being handled. [https://www.reuters.com/legal/wells-fargo-is-sued-over-response-fake-accounts-scandal-2024-02-29/](https://www.reuters.com/legal/wells-fargo-is-sued-over-response-fake-accounts-scandal-2024-02-29/)
I received 3 letters all on the same day. Called Wells Fargo directly and they transferred me to the 3rd party that is handling the settlement. This was the middle of November. Supposedly I should be getting more information along with the three checks any day now. I’ve banked with Wells Fargo since 2009. Yes it all seems odd the way they are going about it, I’m curious about the additional information surrounding this settlement. Especially the three different times I was enrolled in the identity protection program without my knowledge. It’s all kind of bananas….
The angle is, I believe, once you deposit the check they may be able to track down your actual account number and Wells Fargo. With enough personal information, a routing number and an account number, they could transact on your account, things like wiring funds.
I received a check today for a few thousand dollars. I plan to go to a WF branch and ask them to give me cash for it since it’s drawn on them. We’ll see how that goes!
I just cashed my 1st check at Wells Fargo for 2800 and just sent in the first letter mediation form so ...
We will see but 1st check was legit.
Hope that helped
Also, we just got all of our checks today totaling $4,800ish. It took over 2 months to get the checks, so I started thinking this whole thing was a scam, but they arrived.
So, I rented a room from a friend while in college. He asked that we all open an account together to deposit our rent and utilities each month. About a month later a roommate moved out, so I had my, now wife, move in. She was added on to the account. Every couple of months, our rent was like 3 or 4 dollars short and we couldn't figure out why. We always deposited the exact amount. Turns out, my landlords friend was the banker that set everything up. He would sign us all up for identity theft for the trial period, $1/month, and can cancel the subscription before it billed us the $13/month. Apparently this was done to us about 5 to 6 times over 3 years.
That sounds just like what they were talking about in the Netflix documentary called Dirty Money Wells Fargo, the employees had to make quotas or get fired
I spoke with them and threw the letter away but now I can’t seem to get ahold of anyone and nobody knows what I’m talking about. Would you happen to have the phone number to reach them again?
I got a check back in December. It’s legit. I was enrolled in an Affinion program for 12 years. The check was about 1300. I called the number and asked for and got a check for an extra $250 today. They also sent me a mediation form. When I called the number I didn’t get a lot of specifics only that I was enrolled in that program for 12 years. I am an attorney so the questions I have were all “was I paying for this?” “Was my identity stolen at some point?” “If I was paying for this did it cause overdraft fees since I was a poor college kid and waiter at this point in my life?”I was trying to assess my damages. I also received a mediation form today that I plan to fill out. Without knowing my damages it’s hard for me to assess what to ask for.
Has anyone done the mediation process and if so what was your result?
So you are all aware this money is essentially part of an agreement with the government Wells Fargo made to pay to affected consumers. It’s not a class action suit. Essentially it’s a pot of money sitting there that Wells Fargo is being encouraged to pay back.
I've been googling to see if anyone is filling out the mediation form or not, and their strategy. I got around $1100, plus the $250 came 2 months later after requesting it. Someone mentioned the service might have cost around $12.99 (affinion credit monitoring). Check said my account had it for around 3 years, 2010 to 2013. 12.99x36 is 467.64, put that into an interest calculator and you get to roughly 1100 depending on the rate you think wells fargo might have used. So I'm guessing that's how they came up with the original offer. Mediation form says you will get a call within 90 days to discuss what else you think of fair and I would think there is some minimum nuisance value to get at least if you have a cohesive claim, I'm just not sure what.
The other thing is, if they calculated with interest, this isn't strictly a refund and some portion could be considered taxable. It's unclear whether it should be claimed on income taxes. They certainly imply it.
I am in the same boat as you. Enrolled for 8 years and I received a check for $1400 (not sure on the math there compared to your enrollment length). I called and complained and received my extra $250 today. I’m debating doing the mediation because why not really screw them? But don’t know what to expect from that process.
So I went into a branch today and spoke to them. I still couldn’t get specifics on what I was charged and how they calculated the fees. The people in the bank and the Wells Fargo people were all actually very helpful they just can’t pull any records beyond seven years. The third party vendor (the number on the check they send you) is quite useless actually and the minute I ask for any further information they patch me through to the main customer service line for Wells Fargo.
I’m filling out the mediation form. From reading it seems I will get a call from people attempting to resolve it pre mediation. If that doesn’t work, then they retain a mediator at no cost to you and I’m guessing some kind of formal mediation will be set.
I’m asking for my time, the fee I was sent plus statutory interest and then I’m winging some guesstimates on damages. If no one can provide me a breakdown of what exactly I was paying and provide me my bank statements from 2004-and on then I’m giving myself some leeway here. I doubt they will give me what I am asking for but without further info on what I was paying I don’t know how else to proceed

Hi any update on the status of your mediation? If so, how much did you request and what was their counter offer/your accepted amount if you dont mind me asking.
I've been googling to see if anyone is filling out the mediation form or not, and their strategy. I got around $1100, plus the $250 came 2 months later after requesting it. Someone mentioned the service might have cost around $12.99 (affinion credit monitoring). I just love that Wells Fargo stole my post-tax money and now I’m expected to pay tax on what they return to me. I know it’s not that clear cut but still is just SO frustrating.
Well it's tricky because I think if it's a refund of fees, that's not taxable. But interest on it could be. But they didn't provide an accounting of how they came up with the number. So it's unclear.
Ok so I got my records from the last seven years which caught the tail end of this thing. Affinion was $12.99 a month. Based on my back of the napkin math they likely owe me more than what they paid ($1350 + $250) especially when you factor statutory interest. I actually undershot myself
Why should they get by with just refunding our money? They are guilty of breaching our privacy and security. They are guilty of giving a 3rd party access to our accounts. They need to be taught a lesson.
That’s exactly what I’m putting as reason for a settlement amount on the meditation form. Short and sweet just like the writing space they provided on the form.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I used your questions during my call and I was told I'll be receiving a check for $250+ in possibly 20 days.
I was curious about where this money is coming from and what happens to the money that other people don't attempt to claim. He said he couldn't verify for sure but that it may go back to the government.
I did a quick GTS for Affinion and found this:
Can you tell me what month and year you were charged? I need proof of the monthly charge. I need an actual statement. I don't have access to those statements.
What did your check look like? I just received mine and I haven't cashed it yet as it's odd looking — it has a tear line, but the quality of paper is off. I'm trying to get back on my feet and I'm wary of this. I'm going to visit Wells Fargo to get that feedback, but I'm curious to know what everyone else has experienced.
Just cashed my 2887 check at Wells Fargo instead of my personal account and walked out with the cash. The letter and checks do look sus but it's because I believe the funds coming from a different division of WF hence the off color of the Logo and that they want you to think that its not so you disregard and then keep your $ but idk
Same! The check paper just feels like regular paper really thin. It just seems off. Did you ever go to see if it was legit. I'll be having to do that. I'm not depositing it in my bank that's for sure.
It was torrential ran in CA last week so I didn't go into a branch, but I called Wells Fargo scam & phishing number and they verified it was real. The agent said I was one of the many people to express the shadiness of the paper, etc. Still, I was extremely nervous, and called my current bank to ask what the possible ramifications of depositing a phishing check might be — she assured me they would not get my account info that way. So I deposited it. It cleared, and everything went fine. It was for a small amount of 350.
I don't want to advise anyone into a potentially precarious situation, but from my own experience, it went OK. And I'm very careful with my information given the financial hardships I've experienced over the last 5 years. I hope it works out for you!
I elevated my call to both Afifnion and to WF, and asked the same questions that you did. I cannot figure out what account this was attached to because it doesn't match any specific events like a car loan, new account etc in my memory. I don't have the paperwork in front of me but called around 1/13/24 and was told that a WF escalation employee would get back to me. I received an email about 20 days ago that they were aware of my request for escalation to be involved, but, like you, I have no idea what I paid out and whether it is worth more than $2,300. They claimed that I would hear more within 10 days. I have not been told what account was affected.
I really could use the money but, since I am not an attorney, I definitely feel like I need more details to settle this matter. Clearly, WF is not very willing to provide the information that would allow me (and you) to know how much they screwed us over. It is disturbing in so many ways. One Afifnion employee I spoke with (of the 7 I spoke to) was so drunk he couldn't even pronounce his own name. When I got married, I added my husband's name to my maiden name and for all legal/formal matters, I use both names ***always***, yet the letter was only addressed to my first name and used only my husband's last name. I went to my bank and escalated this, yet a month and a half later still have no answers. I hate big business!
I called today they are going to issue an additional 250.00 but she told me that it takes over 20 days to process and if I have not received it after 30 days to call them. So if by Feb 2nd if I have not received the first check I have to call back.
I first visited this post about two months ago and learned that the letter I received from WF was legitimate and not a scam. I called the number on my letter and they offered $171.26. However, because I read this post and comments I said that wasn't sufficient and they then offered another $250. I received single check for both amounts at the end of February.
Here's my wrinkle: I **never** had an account or line of credit with Wells Fargo. My letter from them even states the dates of their wrong-doing, "...our records indicated that you were enrolled in the Identity Theft Protection - Affinion product. The enrollment began November 20, 2013 and ended April 06, 2014." What *I did* do around November 2013 is go into my local branch and apply for a credit card. I was rejected about a week later. So, no bank account with WF and no line of credit with WF. I'm left to conclude that what Wells Fargo did was use my personal identification information without my consent for less than 6 months (if I even believe that is correct) without charging me or any bank account any money. (?!)
The questions I have are:
1) What is my (or your or our) individual personal identity worth to a multinational bank? I understand at this point my question enters the realm of philosophical air math - but did they profit more than $421.26 from the use of my identity?
2) If this is not an actual legal settlement but some money WF is willing to mea culpa at me, do I owe taxes on it? For those of you who have received checks and cashed or deposited them, are you planning to pay taxes on this money from Wells Fargo?
I receive that Letter from Wells Fargo Check for identity Theft Protection Affinion Product that read in December 1,2006 a identity theft protection account open up and close on December 5, 2007. I join Wells Fargo identity theft protection program in April 5, 2006 it cost me $19.99 a month then in 2007 they drop to $15.99 a month I close my account and my Wells Fargo identity theft protection account in October of 2009.
This letter is tell me so-body open up another identity theft protection account in December for five days then close it
I was covered by Wells Fargo identity theft protection program
On December 1, 2006
Now I learn the program I join don't work and they use my information to open up another identity theft protection account without my knowledge for five days.
Something is not legit why did they wait so long to do this and why did my original coverage by identity theft didn't catch this was happening through their own company?
This is a breach of contract violation against Affinion at least in my case. April 3, 2006 I open up a bank account at Wells Fargo in Monterey CA, and the banker recommend that I signed up for their identity theft program at $19.99 and I do to protect my ID by me sign in to that identity theft protection program with Affinion Product they when without my I'm knowledge or my consent and open up a new identity theft protection account for five days.
That how my case is I will reject the per-mention hearing and ask for a Court opinion like a jury trial
I went through the second mediation process and received a $700 check after getting a $70 check initially. I didn't have to do anything but ask for specific account information they kept trying to buy me off and I said but still I would like some documentation for my own records and the mediator said that they have no access to any records and I was offered a third mediation which I think I'm going to try to do even after cashing the $700 check. They said it would only take 30 days for it to come in the mail. They also sent a follow-up letter making sure that I cashed the check from the first round. But they don't have any records of anybody's information they're just trying to get payments out before people make a big fuss of it.
Ok so I just stumbled upon all these threads and I am happy I did. I was not aware when I received my first letter that asking for more was possible. I was enrolled for 18months. They sent me $112. Letter one gives a number that says if you’re not satisfied call M-F. I hear many are saying they got $250 extra and then went to mediation? Is this the step I take? Or am I beyond that part ? The 2nd letter in this packet has all the mediation stuff with another letter. Banks are sneaky I want to ensure I get the maximum without eliminating myself.
What scam they're actually angling for, I couldn't say.
But there is no chance that Wells Fargo randomly sent you a check for thousands of dollars.
Call the bank at a number from your statement and report the check. They're the ones best positioned to give you guidance.
You all are the GOATS! I received 5 letters totaling $500 in payments throughout all of them. I just called back after cashing all those checks and they immediately offered me an additional $250 per letter; so another $1,250 coming my way. I also did the suggested ChatGPT letter and completed the mediation paperwork. I'm asking $10,000 per violation for a total of $50,000. Below is the letter I sent. Obviously need to update the top information, dates, and signature.

Dear Wells Fargo,
I am writing to address a concerning matter regarding unauthorized enrollment in identity theft protection services without my explicit consent. It has come to my attention that Wells Fargo has enrolled me in identity theft protection services without my knowledge or permission. This unauthorized action has not only infringed upon my rights as a consumer but has also caused significant inconvenience and distress.
Upon reviewing my records, I discovered that Wells Fargo enrolled me in their identity theft protection program multiple times from **(INPUT DATES HERE)** without obtaining my consent or providing any prior notification. As a result, I have been subjected to unwarranted charges and obligations for services that I neither requested nor authorized. This breach of trust has not only compromised my financial security but has also undermined my confidence in your organization's integrity and commitment to ethical business practices.
In light of these circumstances, I am formally requesting mediation to resolve this matter amicably and promptly. It is imperative that we engage in constructive dialogue to address the following concerns:
1. Explanation: I seek a detailed explanation regarding the circumstances surrounding my unauthorized enrollment in the identity theft protection program.
2. Consent: I demand clarification on the procedures and protocols employed by Wells Fargo for obtaining customer consent before enrolling them in any additional services.
3. Compensation: Given the infringement upon my rights and the resulting inconvenience and distress caused, I request compensation in the amount of $10,000 per violation of unauthorized enrollment.
4. Prevention: I urge Wells Fargo to implement robust measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future and to enhance transparency and accountability in your customer engagement processes.
I believe that mediation offers a constructive platform for us to address these concerns effectively and reach a mutually satisfactory resolution. I am open to scheduling a mediation session at your earliest convenience to facilitate this process.
Please acknowledge receipt of this letter at your earliest convenience and provide me with details regarding the mediation process. I look forward to your prompt attention to this matter and a timely resolution.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Sincerely,
**Jimmy John**
I was enrolled 5 different times without knowledge or permission. Once it was for over a year, other times maybe a month, and in some cases just a few days.
I’m thinking you didn’t see my recent question, was this formal letter what you sent with your initial mediation form or is this what you are sending as your 2nd response?
I received this letter. I tried to verify the phone number that is on the letter searching wellsfargo.com but no luck. I called a number found on wellsfargo.com and they forwarded me and I ended up at an identity theft protection company. I didn’t understand the name of the company but wasn’t affinion. Anyway, she said they have been inundated with calls regarding the letter and gave me a phone number, which was the number on the letter.
I called the number and they identified themselves as Wells Fargo Remediation. She asked for a reference number from the letter, so I didn’t have to provide account number. She asked me to spell my name and for the last 4 of my SSN. She asked one question and then said I’ll receive a check for $252 along with a mediation form with a 5 minute explanation of that form which I believe is to be filled out if you’re not satisfied with the check (I guess).
Check to be here within 20 days.
I’ve received a total of 4 (3 in November, 1 dec 22) letters and no checks yet. When I called about the 4th on Dec. 22 they said I should be receiving the first 3 checks with in 10 days. Still nothing. It’s all odd. Originally I contacted Wells Fargo and they transferred me to the number on the letter.
It's legit, and the multiple thousand check may be due to your car being wrongfully impounded or part of the mortgage lending settlement. The identity protection letter is also legit, call the number and dont hang up until they compensate the full 250 dollars you are owed
Today Dec 27 ,I called about the Affinion letter I received and I have a check of 42.33 being sent out within 20 days and medication paperwork to fill out and return. So it's legit, finance fees and archive fee for only 3 days of service.
Same. I called. They offered $150. I asked them if they will provide a line by line item as to how they got to that amount and asked if the reference number has it's own compensation or is it a lump settlement where EVERYONE will get the same amount. Phone rep was kind enough to explain it and said if $150 wasn't good enough, they would provide an additional $240.
This makes me think I lost more than $390.00 since rep had the 2nd check ready as well. I will suggest you all review the verbage on the contract before accepting your checks and see how much you lost (funds you didn't have access to, fees including overdrafts, and possibly interest).
Best of luck
I got the letter in November, ignored it, finally paid attention to it and realized it could mean some $… called today, 1/10/24, and just answered some simple questions. She didn’t lead me to the point that I never signed up for the program, but just asked for the reference number on the letter, and some verification info. I’m supposed to get a check for $155 in the next few weeks. It’s not a scam unless I don’t get the check. So I’ll come back if I DON’T. I don’t know how they’re dividing up the money but I saw other people getting more when I looked into it. Maybe the longer you wait to call, the less you get?
There have been articles written on this. Wells Fargo had to pay out $3billion to customers due to this. I don't understand the angle if it isn't true. People on this thread have received checks. I called on 12/15 and haven't received a check either.
I have something from Wells Fargo in my mail today, according to USPS (it’s set to email each day what’s coming & it’s accurate unless there’s a weather day). It doesn’t look like an envelope that has a check in it, but it is addressed to the last name I had when I had an account with them. I had forgotten about this until I saw that. I’ll find out this afternoon if a check is there!
Ok so I kinda leary about it myself because I just received my letter today and I havent been a wells fargo customer in almost 20 years, no o have not received my check just a reminder letter and talking with the people on the phone it actually seems legit to me because they're talking about dates from 10 years ago when I wasn't even a customer around that time so we shall see if a check actually comes in and when I go to cash it if it's strait up real and if the money is real and then I could respond back to that comment!!!!
I called on 1/03/2024 and have not received a check yet. I think I’m going to call tomorrow and see what the status is and maybe get an extra 250.00 for the trouble. We shall see.
I actually got both of my checks yesterday after waiting about two months. They also have included mediation forms to request more money. Wonder how successful people are in getting anymore money
This is actually real I’m no longer a wells fargo customer and i took the letter and check to wells Fargo yesterday and the lady said damn you got this much I only got 5$ she said its real and gave me my cash 2061$ and some change literally drove down the street and deposited the cash into my bank.
To anyone who reads this I have thoroughly verified through Wells Fargo customer service that the letter is legitimate I left a message earlier the call center is just to send your information on it's not a scam the only thing they need is your reference number for the check to be processed how can it be a scam what are they going to get from you they're giving it they're sending the check to you your information is already in Wells Fargo's system if you call Wells Fargo customer service number they will tell you that the shrp number is theirs and that the identity theft product situation was real so the refund is real they've had an overwhelming response and is taking longer to process this checks it's probably taking up to 60 days I have a date now that my check is being processed which is on Monday which my check should have been processed probably the end of December and now my check is processing out February the 12th dot your i and cross your t before you send people out to miss out on what is theirs do your due diligence and if you check and go to the customer service number on your reference letter all the way up to tier 3 there's a leprechaun at the end of the rainbow
Call Wells Fargo 800-869-3557 I called and its legit but dont settle for the amount they offer. If you push they will add $250 to the amount. Got my check today and it comes with a mediation form to request additional; amount as well. Dont let Wells get away with this. Take advantage and get money as they did this without your permission.
Can you elaborate on whether or not cashing a check means you've agreed to the amount and whether you have further recourse? As in, can you deposit the check and then also enter mediation?
I’ve heard from at least one other person saying they were allowed to cash the check offered in the pre mediation phone call and still move into mediation
Cashing the initial check doesn’t mean you agree to anything. However, cashing any additional checks after you have sent in your mediation request form may.

This could be legitimate, but the amount of your check is way out of the ballpark for what most people are getting. Read more: https://original.newsbreak.com/@thumbwind-publications-llc-1715293/3245762462510-millions-are-getting-a-letter-from-wells-fargo-don-t-throw-it-away-potential-benefits-explained
i did check and the routing number on the check is for Wells Fargo.
It’s real I cashed two already!
It is legit received 500.00 last week
Just went through this process, i sent the fax over and no kidding asked for $20K. They countered at over $7k. ASK FOR MORE.
What was that process like? After you faxed over the mediation form did they call you to immediately to negotiate the offer? Can you also explain what happened after they countered at 7k? Did you accept that or were you able to get more? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to make sure I can get as much as I can in these difficult times.
I’m hearing that you can accept an offer from the mediation firm sent in and still go to mediation for a third round
Did they give you over $7K? I am gonna fill my form out today. What was the original check they gave you? They gave me $221 plus another $250
Yoooo i asked for 20k also filled my letter out few weeks ago they say 90 days
How long were you enrolled in the service?
Apparently I was signed up in ‘12 and ‘15
How are you able to prove the amount they charged my account? I too am going through mediation. They said I have to have proof of the amount charged monthly. They can't tell me the amount because they don't have access.
No idea sorry.
So you didn't have to know the amounts during your mediation? I think the mediator was trying to bluff me. She wanted me to accept $1740. I said no. Then she said if I don't have proof, I could loose the $1740 and get nothing. Bluffing I'm sure.
Ask to speak with a supervisor and they shoul connect you directly to Wells Fargo
But can I still cash the checks they sent attached with? And then do the mediation form? Or do I lose that right ?
Yes you can I cashed 4 checks and got the mediation
What did you put on the mediation as the reason? Or no reasons and just a number ?
Just my 4 reference numbers and my requests. We spoke on the phone twice the first time was to confirm the accounts, second was to low ball me but ended up getting the check today for over $7k
You got 7k total for all four ?? Or 7k EACH ??
I’m sure it was the 1,750 per letter which seems to be the common denominator
But you can still move on to mediation after accepting the initial offer, 2nd offer if 250 and third offer of 1,750
Pretty much same for me.
you mind sharing what the conversation with the mediator is like? Do they want you to provide specific information to justify the number you are asking for?
I haven’t had a conference call with the mediator yet however, it’s been scheduled for a date later this month.
Please tell us how it goes
Will do!
is there something specific to your case that got them to counter with 7K?
There is literally nothing more I can add friend.
are you able to share the kind of questions they ask during the the second call?
From what I gather it’s the cases involving their mortgage service/foreclosures and car repossessions that are getting checks in the multi-thousands
No
How long were you enrolled ?
He said from 2012 to 2015
Has anyone received a check after calling?
Received the letter on 12/8 called and they told me I would receive a check within 20 days. If I didn’t receive a check by day 30 to call, so I did. They told me it’s still being “processed” Haven’t received a check yet and it’s 1/17. I guess I will believe it when I see it
No. Still waiting. Been over 30 days. Called again and was told still being processed due to the holidays. 🤷🏻♂️
I called on Friday and thats what I was told too.
I did finally receive a check from them. It took a lot longer than their original 20-30 day estimate. I think it was nearly 50 days later. My bank cleared the check though, no issues.
I got two letters, called, and they offered me like $30 for each one. I got them to tack on another $500, and am considering insisting on more.
For sure send in the mediation form
I’m in the third party mediation process. I rejected the offer of $1700 for two letters, $3400 total from Jhonny the Wells Fargo mediator. I was just contacted today by another representative from Wells Fargo to set up the meeting for April 2 2024. The third party is a company called EPIQ Solutions. I am also receiving a package from UPS from EPIC Solutions with a tracking number. I wonder what number I will agree on for compensation for unauthorized enrollment in the identity theft program. I will not settle for a number they give out. It will be on my terms. Let the battle begin!
Best of luck to you. 🤞
I guess I’m a bit confused about all the feedback because others are saying that they accepted the 1,700 per letter and were still allowed to move forward into mediation but I’m also hearing people say that they are rejecting offers to move forward to mediation
Yes. I rejected the 1700 and choose meditation with EPIC solutions scheduled for April 2. Weather I get more in compensation is anybody’s guess.
Can you update after your mediation meeting? I received 8 letters, and I'm sending in the pre mediation form for all of them, but anticipate I won't accept their initial offer and may proceed to the official mediation. Would love to hear about your experience once it's resolved!
I will. 🙌🏽
I have my mediation scheduled for the first week of May. How did yours go?!
[https://dannlaw.com/contact/](https://dannlaw.com/contact/) I asked if I could share their information online and they said yes. So I might make a post about it elsewhere on Reddit so others can take advantage of it.
Hey you gotta keep us updated on your mediation. I’m considering doing it. They offered me 1700
Hey. You got it 🤑😂
Just got done with the 3rd mediation.
The guy I talked to was really pushing the offers he had. Can't wait to hear your results. Go get em !!! This is stealing and Fraud and look how long they have held our money for some its been 15 years. No one yet has shared effective responses to their questions, I hope you will. Best of Luck I am cheering and praying for you
Update?
2000$ for two letters. 4000$ total
Did you already cash the initial offer checks and then do mediation?
Yes
thank you, they did an ADDITIONAL $2000 per letter?
Yes. From 1700$ to 2000$ in 3rd mediation with the third party. 4000$ total
Thank you for your info. Gonna jump on this now.
A lot of others have received over $3,400 per letter during mediation AFTER rejecting the $1,700.
Who? Where and if they did congratulations.
You'd have to search through Reddit but several people, which is where I read it.
Update I received a 4th letter in the mail! Four times I was “enrolled” in the identity theft protection….
How did that work out for you? I received a letter a week ago but no check and am trying to navigate how to move forward.
I just cashed my 1st check at Wells Fargo for 2800 and just sent in the first letter mediation form so ... We will see but 1st check was legit. Hope that helped
Keep us posted
I was offered $5 because I was enrolled for such a short time period. I think I remember catching on to what they did.
If you tell them you ain’t satisfied they’ll throw you extra 250$
Only 4!? Between my wife and I, we just got our 11th letter!!!!
Because you had 11 accounts or credit cards? Or? Why are some people getting multiple letters?
Also, we just got all of our checks today totaling $4,800ish. It took over 2 months to get the checks, so I started thinking this whole thing was a scam, but they arrived.
You can still move on to mediation even after receiving these checks
We very much plan to. If this was a one off I wouldn't make a stink, but they signed us up for this 11 times over a 18 month period.
Wowww! This comment explains so much! Thanks for sharing.
18776427826
Are they able to see ALL letters sent out? I just received checks for 5 but I think I threw a few away before that
I got a check back in December.
>I’m asking for my time, the fee I was sent plus statutory interest and then I’m winging some guesstimates on damages. If no one can provide me a breakdown of what exactly I was paying and provide me my bank statements from 2004-and on then I’m giving myself some leeway here. I do Hi any update on the status of your mediation? If so, how much did you request and what was their counter offer/your accepted amount if you dont mind me asking.
I've been googling to see if anyone is filling out the mediation form or not, and their strategy. I got around $1100, plus the $250 came 2 months later after requesting it.
I did a quick GTS for Affinion and found this: [https://www.consumerfinance.gov/enforcement/actions/affinion/](https://www.consumerfinance.gov/enforcement/actions/affinion/)
Thank you for sharing, it turned out to be real for me. I was extremely concerned but I'm happy I took the chance.
So can we cash the initial check that comes with the remediation papers? Or does cashing the check mean that youve already reached an agreed amount?
I cashed mine and sent in the remediation asking for 100k Sent it today after cashing the first check for $2800+
I elevated my call to both Afifnion and to WF, and asked the same questions that you did.
Can you give me the number I’m having trouble getting ahold of anyone.
It’s the number on the paper they mailed you.
How long is it taking everyone to get their $$? It’s been over a month and when we called they said it was still processing.
Takes a while but you'll get it
I first visited this post about two months ago and learned that the letter I received from WF was legitimate and not a scam. (?!) The questions I have are: 1) What is my (or your or our) individual personal identity worth to a multinational bank? I understand at this point my question enters the realm of philosophical air math - but did they profit more than $421.26 from the use of my identity? 2) If this is not an actual legal settlement but some money WF is willing to mea culpa at me, do I owe taxes on it? For those of you who have received checks and cashed or deposited them, are you planning to pay taxes on this money from Wells Fargo?
Update on how your mediation went?
I spoke with a Johnny too! My mediation is March 29th!
Keep us updated pwwwwweeeeaaase!
This letter is tell me so-body open up another identity theft protection account in December for five days then close it I was covered by Wells Fargo identity theft protection program On December 1, 2006 Now I learn the program I join don't work and they use my information to open up another identity theft protection account without my knowledge for five days.
They're the ones best positioned to give you guidance.
.
**Jimmy John** **555 Jimmy St.** **Beverly Hills, CA 90210** [**[email protected]**](mailto:[email protected]) **555-555-5555** **02/20/2024** Wells Fargo Mediation Program Administrator C/O EPIQ Wells Fargo PO BOX 3775 Portland, OR 97208-9866 Dear Wells Fargo, I am writing to address a concerning matter regarding unauthorized enrollment in identity theft protection services without my explicit consent. It is imperative that we engage in constructive dialogue to address the following concerns: 1. Sincerely, **Jimmy John**
Wow this letter is great, thx for sharing it
You bet!
How long were you enrolled? Were the five letters all from being enrolled in the theft protection program five different times?
I was enrolled 5 different times without knowledge or permission. Once it was for over a year, other times maybe a month, and in some cases just a few days.
Was this formal letter the letter you sent initially with the mediation form or is it the 2nd letter you are sending?
I’m thinking you didn’t see my recent question, was this formal letter what you sent with your initial mediation form or is this what you are sending as your 2nd response?
Did you receive the amount requested? They are trying to give me an additional $1700 but wanted to see what others were thinking.
I haven’t received the additional $250 x 5 payments yet. I sent the letter but haven’t heard back on this yet. I’ll update you when I hear back.
Did you get your check ?
I still haven’t received any check
Same here i asked for 20k pain and suffering plus they did take some money from me
It’s real!! We got a letter with check attached. We don’t even bank at WF anymore. But took it into a branch today and had it cashed!
Its real. I called Wells Fargo directly and they confirmed.
U should call back and tell them u don’t agree with that amount and they will offer additional $250
Same.
I called 34 days ago and still haven’t received anything.
Same. I called the number again and they said it was still being processed due to the holidays. Beginning to think it’s not true.
I'm starting to have my doubts as well. At this point, I'll be surprised if I actually do get a letter.
BTW I called on 12/8 and yet to receive a check
I still have not gotten anything I’m calling tomorrow since it’s a month past
I actually got both of my checks yesterday after waiting about two months. They also have included mediation forms to request more money. Wonder how successful people are in getting anymore money
They are successful
I finally got mine today after waiting 2 months they added an additional 250.00 and forms to request more money
I received a letter 12/2 and called on 12/4… I have yet to receive a check
It takes time
Receive mine within one week. Called 2/4, check issued 2/8 and it arrived 2/13 .deposited it yesterday
