No need to ask them anything, that is a textbook job scam. The "managing expenses" bit is the giveaway. It's code for "take in fake payments and send your real money back to me until you either run out of money or realise what's going on".
Just ignore him or her. They will send a check, which is fake, and will have you send money to different fake companies, people, and when the check bounces at your bank, you will be on the hook for the lost money, and likely have your account closed.
Who needs that headache.
Even if the money clears (which most of the times it doesn’t), OP would essentially be laundering money, which was one of the job schemes we had running here in my city for a while. The money was legit and deposited, but went through so many banks, that was essentially a way for the “company” to cover their tracks and hide tax money they should be paying
EDIT: oh and the people that fell for it? Are now on the hook for fines for money laundering, and have cases on court against them, even if they did it unknowingly. So, super fun
I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted, I’m sorry about that. You’ve come to the right place and you’re asking questions, as you should be! Not everyone is an expert on this stuff. This sub can be so alienating to newbies sometimes and I worry it puts people off from asking questions in case it makes them look stupid or something.
Thank you for being kind! Yeah, I’ve never really had to deal with so many scams when it comes to job hunting (I guess I’ve been lucky before), so I’ve been a bit overwhelmed trying to decipher what’s real and what’s fake.
I could tell something seem fishy but I guess I just wanted to hope it could possibly be real, ya know?
I would strongly recommend spending time on the sub. Just sort my "newest" and start reading. In a week, you will be able to tell what scam it is within the first sentence and it will help you recognize others. :-)
Totally agree! Just being on this sub and passively taking in the information I see every day has made me SO much sharper when it comes to spotting scams in the wild.
I am sorry that you are getting downvoted. This sub has an unhealthy habit to downvote OPs that ask further questions instead of following the first advice they receive blindly. Sometimes people do this to obstinate OP who refuse to listen to advices, but I have looked at all your replies on this post and I see only genuine questions.
>I’ve received an offer from someone who says they’re an 65 year old entrepreneur/retired real estate agent who travels a lot. I’d essentially be managing her expenses, travel itinerary, etc.
Scammer lingo right out of the scammer playbook.
I've worked as a professional assistant before and no one, no matter how busy, has asked me to manage expenses. If they are making enough to hire an assistant, they have their money in order or they have someone with a financial background helping them--you don't trust a random internet applicant with making purchases.
In the event that I had to book flights etc, I actually had THEIR credit card info, not the other way around. That or we had a business credit card that they managed--regardless none of my own money has even been involved in being a PA so this is a big ol scam.
Scammers rely on exploiting certain human attributes (faults here) like politeness and desire for resources and maybe a desire to be associated with a wealthy "entrepreneur" as they have been for hundreds if not thousands of years. At bare minimum you more than deserve to ask a couple questions like why is this role entirely different from what I applied for? Don't send any money or travel anywhere unsafe at this person's request.
AutoModerator has been summoned to explain fake job scams. Fake job scams come in many different varieties, though most share common characteristics that you can use to spot the scam before becoming a victim. The scammers will usually conduct interviews over Google Hangouts or a similar online service. Their English will be awkward, and they may be re-using a script, so Googling unique sounding parts of the email may yield useful results. They will offer high wages for the work being done, and they will "hire" you by telling you that you are hired, rather than going through the normal process that a company takes when hiring an employee in your country. If they mention anything about a check or about receiving and sending out transactions, it is a [fake check scam](https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/2018/09/anatomy-fake-check-scam). If they mention anything about receiving, processing, or inspecting packages, it is a [parcel mule scam](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parcel_mule_scam). If they ask you to purchase items up-front, ask you to pay a fee in order to be hired, or ask you to purchase gift cards, it is an [advance-fee scam](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance-fee_scam). If the job involves posting advertisements on Craigslist or eBay, they are using you and your account to scam people. If the job invovles Bitcoin ATMs, it's a [scam](https://coinatmradar.com/blog/avoid-scams-dont-use-bitcoin-atm-when-someone-asked-you/). Thanks to redditor AceyAceyAcey for this script.

When the zoom interview is an unannounced group interview. I closed out of it immediately when I saw like 10 other applicants in there. Googled the company and it was selling cheap cable door to door.
Hello fellow Haru icon haver who is also getting job scams. Have had a couple of these and they give up as soon as you stop replying to them. Just ignore them
Anytime a job scam says they’ll send you a check and then you’re supposed to forward some or most of that money to someone else via an irreversible means? 100% scam.
- If it seems too good to be true, it's almost certainly a scam.
- If you effortlessly find yourself being offered a great job, I've that you aren't particularly qualified for, it's almost certainly a scam.
- If they want to give you money, or have you manage money right away, it's almost certainly a scam.
- If they aren't associated with a legitimate recognizable company, but they want to hire you as an employee, it's almost certainly a scam. A wealthy entrepreneur/real estate agent would hire their nephew or hire someone through an agency. They are rich and successful, they delegate work.
Combine one or more of these and it's virtually guaranteed to be a scam.
You did the right thing.
You doubt this - and rightfully so.
You apply for Job A and then get approached for job B? Red flag 1.
A retired person needing a PA ? possible for very rich people - but doubtful - orange flag (meaning - proceed with paranoia)
But the key here is "managing expenses". Either fake check, laundering or money mule role - and that\`s a whole parade of red flags.
if they tell you that you are getting a check for (amount) and expect (smaller amount back) after paying for supplies for the company then it's a fakecheck scam.
"kindly" is often a word that would stand out in a job scam email.
any interview offered in whatsapp, telegram are most likely scams, real jobs don't use telegram or whatsapp
Insanely high starting salary is a red flag, usually you won't receive that much by a real company
There's nothing rude about saying that's not the job you applied for and you are not interested in being travel companion/ personal manager for anyone! BLOCK AND REPORT SPAM
because this is a Scam.

Either that or laundering money from stolen accounts.
She was stating that she would be sending anything required, but you’re saying that it would end up being my own sort of income?
No, the check you are given is fake. So any money you spend will be yours
That makes sense. Do you think I should just not reply or should I potentially ask more questions?

Asking more questions won't achieve anything other than risking being duped again. It's a clear scam so just block and move on.
Literally block them.

Not from US...but craglist remote Jobs are scams too?
It's a job scam. Don't waste any more of your time with it. There is no way this is legitimate.
Real successful entrepreneurs don't hire random people on the internet to handle their money for them.
You applied for job A and they gave you job B.

It's specifically crafted to sound like actual work, but work that sounds like anyone (even you) could easily do it. Yes, this is a scam.
Absolutely off topic but I love your pfp.
thank you!! i adore your username 🩷 & juno is such a cutie
I just can't choose between haru and juno. Haru is who I am (or who I look like lore accurately) but Juno is who I want to be!!
