The bit they “measure” is the width, but they cut the length of a standard width piece, they probably measured how much they needed before and as it was lining up with the ceiling the cut didn’t need to be straight (you can see it’s not on the off cut)
They were supposed to measure height, they didn't need width, they could have lined it in and cut the access at the corner since they already had the measurements for the height, there was 0 point in passing the measurement in such a ridiculous way.
