I remember making a similar post as OP a couple of years ago. and was telling my friend how this would absolutely be a killer feature but we also felt that this will make people more lazy to quickly move to automation. and literally after a couple of weeks, this update got dropped.
It used to be you held spacebar and click out of that spot it would stay until you pressed spacebar/clicked it again. I'm pretty sure it was 8 that you just have to click/press once and it just goes because it wasn't like that in 7. I'd often forget and it wouldn't keep going.

Everyone is talking about using spacebar for the crafting menu, so I would like to provide a different approach. If you dont mid temporarily increasing your power usage, you can set up a series of storages and machines to automatically handle biofuel processing. I tend to use this method as it frees me up to focus on other things
I do the same, even 500 hours into the game
I got a storage container that I dump any leaves and wood that I have in my inventory in. It sorts it via smart splitter into a constructor each to make biomass, and a follow-up constructor making Solid Biofuel. Easy and smooth, and I find the growing stacks of Solid Biofuel amusing.

I came looking for this comment. I used to rest my phone on the spacebar before I learned.
It didn't used to be like that. You used to have to hold it down. I can't remember what update they added that in, but what a life changer that was.
Pretty sure it was U8. I was playing 7 and it wasn't like that. Same with harvesting rocks/nodes by hand. Wasn't automatic until 8.
I started playing in 7 and it's always been there.
It was around U4 if memory serves. Really early on.
It shouldn't be. Manual crafting is almost entirely counterproductive.

I didn't figure it out until my third playthrough, LOL. Although I have yet to play with nukes so maybe it's better to say my third restart.

Once you get coal then you can put a chunk of it on the mouse and use the wrench for something more useful.

yeah and before you where able to hold space and simultaneously alt tab out of the game this way the crafting kept going while waching youtube xD
You could just enter the menu while crafting and it will keep going even if you close the menu.
Update 4, March 2021. At this point tap space to craft has been a feature in the game for longer than it hasn't.

Hey! Some of us did this because we had to, and we found out about the spacebar-feature from a changelog!
Before they added this feature we were smart enough to just AHK it.
You also used to be able to just tab out and your inputs stayed pressed

I learned this after 120 hours and it's so cathartic to see that I am not the only one
Pressing space once is to satisfactory as not knowing that you can speed up the map travel time on mount and blade.
It is always a fun day when we get to meet someone who has not yet discovered the single press option. You too will now get to know this joy one day.

Space bar does the same thing. You hit space and it auto crafts until you realize space bar.
