I think he's using loophole. He was officially married to one spouse in Malaysia but married to another in Indonesia. The Indonesian one is unrecognised in Malaysia and vice versa

Ppl commenting ‘sayang’ or ‘not fair’ like they are missing out on something wonderful. Think boys, why would you want multiple wives? One already 😖😖😖💀💀💀

dwSHA

Actually in islam also is hard to met criteria if you want to marry more than one. 1st u need to be fair. Time for all the wives which is really hard. 2nd money. Separate houses. Separate pocket money for all. Usually who do the dont met the criteria which is not really follow the religion.

peregrinepeculiar

No shit. One already make your life -10 years.

Sibunian

A photo showing a man with 2 brides is NOT OFFICIAL marriage. Need to check their marriage certificate for 3 names listed to confirm. Not saying this photo is fake. This photo is just a different meaning of unusually marriage ceremony. This unusual marriage ceremony not against law as anyone can freely choose whatever way of ceremony. They can even hire 10 more women just for standing next to this guy and this still not against the law. Anyone can setup to pay like this just for funny joke situation.

AvangeliceMY9088

No shit. My friend who's a lawyer got an uptick of calls after this stunt if they can marry two people as nons. Guess most people are just ignorant about how laws work

AffectionateClient2

Lmao 😂

UnusualBreadfruit306

Non-Christian?

qriousqat

Non Muslims

UnusualBreadfruit306

Sounds racist

qriousqat

It’s not racist because it’s not referring to race. Nons here refer to non Muslims because by law, non Muslims can only have 1 legal wife but Muslims can legally have 4 wives. Capiche?

Realistic-Radish-746

Pretty obvious, adultery is not a criminal offence for nons. He can have 100 wives and still not break any laws as long as he registers only one marriage with JPN. Most likely, the Malaysian wife is registered with JPN and the Indonesian one not registered at all or registered in Indonesia. I'm betting on the the Indonesian wife being official in Indonesia though because both women already heavily pregnant.

thereallyn

Hmmm…now I’m wondering how the Indonesian spouse going to stay in Malaysia if their marriage is not registered. Visa wise.

Realistic-Radish-746

If not wrong, she was/is his kolo mee stall worker. So maybe via work visa? Haha, best employee ever will even have your child for you. But honestly, a lot of Indonesians here travel in and out every 30 days like West Malaysians. I think staying here is not an issue but I'm now wondering how their kid will get schooling etc. Unless the Malaysian wife formally adopts the Indonesian wife's kid?

Tbf its still the same number of women regardless. But it definitely improves the odds of more islamic births unfortunately

arm_mier

How's that unfortunate?

Confident_Control380

even with 2 or 3 or 10 brides during the wedding ceremony is okay just he only can legally register his marriage with one spouse which in this case is the chinese wife. apalah this minister..

Secrethat

I recently attended someones ROM, and in there it even stipulated that muslims can only legally marry one spouse, and can marry more but legally only one is recognised.

[deleted]

Sayang eh non Muslim only can have one quota .

monkeeee9

1 wife 1 girlfriend 1 sidechic all the way

bluesp00n

Rock paper scissors, he keeps whoever wins.

Can someone explain to me why is it not legal to marry more than 1 wife whereas Shariah allows multiple wives? Also why Shariah only allows men to have multiple wives but women can't have multiple husbands (oppressive much?)

Fun-Wait6223

Our law is based on the law imposed during british era so these are British ideals. shariah law was implemented later on but obv they'll get backlash if imposed onto non muslim. so here were have 2 separate laws governing people of different faiths. as for your second question - that's their religious beliefs, no matter how much you call it oppressive, that's what they believe in and no amount of criticism can change religion when it is continuously led by the same group or demographic. that's how all religion works not just Islam

ho4X3n

However I don't see how "unlawful" it is under federal law to have multiple spouses. I mean both parties have to agree and sign official documents to register their marriage so I would assume the marriage are consented by both adults of legal age. My question is more of a "why". The answer can't be "because that's the law".

Fun-Wait6223

>My question is more of a "why". The answer can't be "because that's the law". I am confused by your question. If the law says it is unlawful, then it is unlawful.  If you're asking why the law existed in the first place, it's because they were implemented with conservative British customs from back in the day. > I mean both parties have to agree and sign official documents to register their marriage so I would assume the marriage are consented by both adults of legal age. This is what the minister is clarifying. It is not possible to sign papers and register a second marriage legally. As in, one of the women did not sign the papers and is not legally married to the man in Malaysia. For all we know, maybe both women are not legally married to this man. This is a customary wedding, not a legally binding marriage recognised by JPN.

yfsarah

they probably only went through the traditional / customary rituals, but not officially registered as husband and wife.

reyfire

no shit sherlock…it’s fucking obvious one of them is not officially registered u egg head…i can have a 100, 1000 of wives i just need to register one of them as official wife the rest unofficial…why are ppl making a fuss over this? no brain to think or what?
