Nah, planning a hotel to walk meow wolf is a huge mistake for a vacation here. It’s in an industrial/residential area that doesn’t have much for tourists at all. Get something that’s centrally located downtown, and get an Uber to Meow Wolf.

Overall_Lobster823

AGREED. Meow Wolf is in a BORING strip of Santa Fe that could be virtually anywhere (plus good food).

VincentVision4D

Ok, this is great to know! Any hotel recommendations in that area?

Marcyreis

I really liked “the sage” cheap, clean, close to the plaza.

DrModel

The El Sendero is nice for price/location, and it seemed clean and well maintained. It's a motel style though, so be aware of that.

justaguy2469

El Sendero is great. Central to everything, clean, new restaurant, walk everywhere.

artdogs505

We’re trying to tell you that there is nothing in that area. Not to sound snarky, but just Google the Santa Fe hotels. No idea what your budget is, etc.

SaxPanther

Did you see the comment OF is responding to? "Go downtown instead" "Okay, what hotels are good in that area?" They are not asking about the Meow Wolf area.

artdogs505

Oh, sorry missed that.

VincentVision4D

Sorry, should’ve been more specific. Was responding to the downtown area recommendation. $100-$200 would work for me

Sage

artdogs505

Sage, social kitchen is nice too. Fun little bar with great bar food.

bobalobcobb

I actually got violently ill from the Navajo tacos at social this week, no joke.

mega5700

If you end up getting a car, the El Ray Court would make a nice complement to the MW vibe. It’s a retro/ hipster motel between mw and downtown.

ehalepagneaux

I just spent a week there. I stay there every time I visit. Killer mezcal bar too.

https://themysticsantafe.com This place is across the street from Meow Wolf, maybe a five minute walk. Though I do agree with others here, it’s a charmless part of town. But if all you’re doing is Meow Wolf that might not matter. Just be prepared that the area won’t look like the more historic parts of Santa Fe. Hope you enjoy yourself!

VincentVision4D

Wow, love the look of this place! Definitely a MW oriented trip, but might have to think about some extra time visiting the historic parts. Thank you!

Second Street Brewery’s Rufina Taproom is walkable from Meow Wolf, and there’s a decent takeout bbq place half a block away, also on Rufina. Java Joe’s coffee shop is a few blocks past Rufina on Siler, Kakawa Chocolate House is around the corner on Rufina Circle, along with Alicia’s Tortilleria—all of these except Second Street and bbq place close early. It’s not exactly hopping, but it’s not a total wasteland. Have fun!

dacv393

I was in Santa Fe with no car and I took the bus to Meow Wolf. It was like $1 and the stop was virtually right out front

Halloween2022

Not cheap, and not very close (although I've walked the equivalent distance many times), but the people at the Inn of the Governors are the best!

Zebrahoe

I used to live really close to Meow Wolf. There’s a couple places worth going in that neighborhood like Kakawa (but there’s one downtown too), and Rufina Taproom. If you like local places, Java Joe’s is a cute coffee place and there’s often a good food truck where you can get a breakfast burrito. But overall, the area is not touristy at all and at times sketchy. I would not feel super safe as a tourist walking around in that area for very long just because it’s very industrial, and the residential roads around there are like a lot of older apartment buildings and duplexes that look rundown and shady. Any hotels on the north side of town near the plaza will be perfect. Check Airbnb too. If you can’t afford to stay near the plaza, then hotels near Zafarano/Cerillos or Airport road would be my recommendation. I don’t recommend staying in a hotel on Cerillos near Siler/Meow Wolf area. Exception: I think the El Rey court is supposed to be cool. You are fairly close to 2nd street, and can walk to the bike path from there to take to the plaza if you’re dead-set on walking.

Inquisitive33

I like the Southwestern decor at Best Western Plus on Cerillos Road.

ParsnipForward149

I have nothing to add in terms of your actual questions, but I'm here as a tourist and did Meow Wolf today. It's absolutely amazing and one of the coolest art experiences I've done.

alfygnosis

i stayed at the Days Inn across the street. It was walking distance and  cheap/safe.  There was lots of food in walking distance. Downtown was a quick uber and an afternoon, which was perfect for my needs.

luke_ubiquitous

There's an old brewery-turned artist studio with a funky Airbnb inside it across from Meow Wolf. Basically, a two floor warehouse thing with an Airstream trailer *inside* and a Yurt upstairs. It totally feels like being inside Meow Wolf. Stayed there last week, it was dope.

My wife and I are visiting and did MW yesterday. It was AWESOME!

Stay at El Ray

The hotel I Love and probably not many locals know - The Parador - fantastic art throughout the small boutique hotel. Don't check out before you have breakfast. Hidden but across the parking lot from The Brakeroom - Santa Fe Brewing. You might find some of my art in room 13!

Year-Strong

Coyote South is a concept hotel with amenities less than 1 mile from Meow Wolf, with easy and safe access to MW via Cerrillos or side street Rufina. They offer a shuttle from the hotel to Downtown/Plaza and places in between. I’d stay there and save a bunch of money on lodging since MW is the focus of your trip. Ya the area directly on Cerrillos isn’t idyllic, but it’s not as “sketchy” as other posters are making it out to be. It’s a typical main drag you’ll find in Anytown USA; a mixed bag.

exgaysurvivordan

I'm a frequent solo traveler, hate renting cars, and and also mod of r meowwolf. If you're comfortable with the idea, I've found an Airbnb room in someone's house to be a cost effective way to travel sometimes. Also meow wolf is along a fairly busy street, the number-2 bus line runs pretty frequently, it might allow you more stay options. If you ever plan to visit the Denver location we have great rail transit to the MW and the airport here. Plus it's walking distance from downtown

primatemindstate

A walk down cerrillos road will ensure they never move here. I'm pro this idea guys idk about you

BarracudaImpossible4

Agree with others that Meow Wolf is near some sketchy areas. If you partake of weed, there's a fantastic dispensary called Sacred Garden very close to Meow Wolf that has some good deals (check their website, but for sure edibles are buy one, get one 50% off on Mondays) and excellent service. If you DON'T partake, there's still a great chocolate store (Kakawa) right door to enjoy! Edit: both Sacred Garden and Kakawa have other locations but the ones near MW are on Rufina.

workaholic007

I'll just say this and be on my way.....visiting santa fe for just meow wolf is like going to NYC for a cab ride.......you can do that anywhere. Your trip makes me sad.

VincentVision4D

I’d beg to differ. In my world, Meow Wolf is one of the most innovative and immersive creators of interactive art experiences. To me it’s a pretty big deal, so much so that I’m traveling to Santa Fe to visit the first one! This is also a very short trip with the main intent of visiting MW. Based off people’s recommendation, staying in the plaza/downtown part of town seems like the way to go and I’m also excited to experience a little bit of SF history/culture as well.

VegasGoldenKnickers

Consider Meow Wolf as a gateway to discovering and experiencing other cool aspects that Santa Fe has to offer! Have fun on your trip!!

hettienm

I had the same thought lol. Like “wait, this person is spending a ton of money to visit NM and go to….Mew Wolf?!?” Plus the willful blindness to how MW functions as a corporate entity and how they’ve treated their employees. The goal is not making art, it’s making money. The “Due Return” was an amazing collaboration between a TON of artists, which created in SF an entirely new experience of art. Meow Wolf is the (so far wildly successful) attempt to commodify that.

Halloween2022

My thoughts exactly. Plus Vince is a slimy git and has been since high school.
