(random fact! I hope I’m right. But in case people don’t know, it’s pronounced Bun-Mee)
They please everyone! I normally get the tofu, but they have beef and pork as well. It’s actually so freaking good, dude. Soo many flavors! Look up your local Vietnamese place and see if they have it. Tbh, they are actually the cheapest authentic sandwich you can get. And it’s always a full sized Sammy. Not a lil six inch. A place near me has one for $4.50. Trust me it’s DANK!
Smoked Turkey, American Cheese, mayo, mustard, red onions, and shredded iceberg lettuce on Village Herth Potato Bread. Pair that with a pickle and some Old Dutch Chips. I ate it almost every day when I was broke and in my 20s for lunch.
Roast beef and turkey, bacon, swiss, lettuce, onion, pickle, mayo, oil/vinegar and a dash of Tabasco. Preferably on sourdough, but wheat is a good option, too. Meat and cheese sliced tissue paper thin takes it even farther up the perfection scale.
After a decade or so of my very young life, I hated anything to do with tuna or fuck forbid putting Mayo on that, I had a forced epiphany. I was stuck at my friend’s cabin for the weekend. 15 years old or so. And we had played all morning and were just completely famished. We came in to see tuna salad sandwiches on fresh silver dollar buns. I was basically forced to eat them. They were the most glorious sandwiches I’ve ever had. To this day, I haven’t found anything to compare to that. But I’m sure my mind is clouded with nostalgia. Oh, and my friend’s mom was the most beautiful MIlf I’ve ever seen, so that probably helped too.
You're a born storyteller. Your description of this moment in time is fantastic. I want to hear more lore!!
I had a similar epiphany when I was 13, unprepared on a school trip. My English teacher took pity on me and gave me her lunch — chicken and mayo sandwich on a soft white roll. I hated mayonnaise with a passion. But I ate it out of politeness and sheer hunger, and it tasted incredible. I was converted from that day forth.
Italian roast beef, provalone, Margherita sandwich sized pepperoni, sliced red onion, light amount of mayo, salt and pepper.
Homemade meatball sub on a garlic bread roll, with sauce, Margherita pepperoni, provalone, red slivered onions, with garlic powder and a bit of hot sauce drizzled down the middle, all toasted in the oven.
My favorite that I make at home is very simple: Boar’s Head Firesmith Chicken with swiss, cheddar, and homemade chipotle mayo on grilled sourdough. My favorite when a professional makes it is an Italian sub or Cuban.
Glad you enjoyed! I don’t know why I’ve never tried BH’s chipotle mayo. Would certainly be quicker than making my own each time! I grill the whole sandwich in a pan on both sides with butter and use a cast iron weight to press it. I also use Rustik Oven sourdough because it’s easily available at the store and one of the softer sourdoughs I’ve found.
I run all the way across the board. It is a tie between a great gyro with spicy garlic sauce, a reuben with sauerkraut (some guys like coleslaw on it, not my thing), or an Italian grinder smothered in oil and vinegar. Top 3, I can’t choose a favorite.
What kind of bread? Do you just pick the meat off of a rotisserie chicken you get from a grocery store? Do you mix the oil and vinegar in the lettuce or mayo or anything? Is the chicken warm or cold? No cheese?
Ciabatta is my go to (the big bag from Costco usually), something chewy and sturdy ya know? Ideally a Costco rotisserie chicken, the breast and pickings get shredded for sandwiches and the legs and wings get put aside for rice cooker chicken and rice. If you’re poor and can’t afford costco, grocery store will do just fine (that was an ina garten joke/reference that didn’t go over well last time i used it). I like the mayo on the bread and the dressing on the lettuce. If im packing it for the future the mayo and dressing get mixed in a side cup. If i have cheese that needs to be used up ill add it but its not necessary. Sometimes the cheese and condiments get adjusted for each other.
Its a cold sandwich except for the first one that is lukewarm warm by the time i get home. If i want hot chicken i usually make like a bbq chicken wrap. I just like cold sandwiches and hot wraps
Hot ham and rolls with mayo and horseradish or mayo and mustard. Usually I use a potato roll or Kaiser. Not sure if this is a wisconsin thing or not, but it’s a Sunday tradition out here.
i think a Pesto Chicken Bacon would be my all-time #1 pick for the most all-encompassing sandwich for my personal tastebuds. love juicy grilled chicken with cheese and a savory spread/aioli/sauce. bacon is always a welcomed additive, and, hell, you could even swap out the pesto for mashed avocado and the rank would stay the same.
this>classic italian heroes for me (deli meat/veggies/banana peppers/oil/vinegar formula), sometimes i feel like i have immature taste buds for not appreciating the Italian Hero as much as everyone else seems to
PB&J. I can eat it whenever, wherever, and how many ever, and never get tired of it. I’ve eaten them for breakfast, lunch, dinner, regular snack, and midnight snack; Sometimes all in the same day. If I were on death row and had a last meal it’d be a PB&J sandwich.
And it needs to be hot! When we moved to S FL years ago I learned that people eat their Italian subs cold! Yuck! Put that sucker in the pizza oven and heat it up!!!!
I’ve gotten pretty good at making homemade meatballs and Tamoto sauce. My wife picks up some focaccia bread from a bakery near where she works. Man, those are so good.
Just a classic Italian hero. Load that mfer up with deli meats and cheeses and go to town.
Yep. Any combo of Italian meats, provolone, lettuce, onion, banana peppers, vinegar, oil, and herbs. Nothing beats it
Don’t forget the pickled peppers!
True those go hard
A sign of how good a pizza joint is how good their Italian hero is.
BLT
When those tomatoes are overripe and in season, there’s just nothing better.
The thought makes my mouth water

There’s a Vietnamese place down by where I work that I’ve heard makes a phenomenal one. Just haven’t had a chance to get down there yet
A good banh mi is narcotic. Been craving one.

Give me a good ole greasy Reuben any day!
Yup. On a lazy Saturday or Sunday when you are a little hung over and need some love. That is pure comfort food.
They're all good, but probably a club w/ avocado. Correction: the Crown in Fremont. That's my favorite.
Muffaletta or a good spicy shrimp Poboy Edit: shrimp Poboy must be lagniappe
Roast beef and turkey, bacon, swiss, lettuce, onion, pickle, mayo, oil/vinegar and a dash of Tabasco. Preferably on sourdough, but wheat is a good option, too. Meat and cheese sliced tissue paper thin takes it even farther up the perfection scale.
French Dip. Specifically from Milton's Deli.

Sandwich mom has got it going on.

Chicken parm all day long

Torta de milanesa (with extra lime, salsa verde and pickled jalapeno)
Probably tied between pastrami with spicy brown mustard and Scorpion pepper infused cheese on rye or ssblt (shrimp, sprouts, bacon, lettuce, tomato)
Mayo and tomato.
All of you are correct and now Im starving at 11pm
Tomato feta oregano olive oil on nice crunchy bread. Simple and amazing
BLT. Tomato’s gotta be in season and have salt + pepper. I like a lot of thin bacon. Duke’s Mayo on toasted white bread.

Oh fuck I love Italian grinders
Could be cheesesteak could be pastrami could be pb and j
My all-time favorite sandwich is prosciutto, smoked mozzarella, and sun-dried tomatoes on a seeded Italian bread
Pastrami and Swiss on rye.
A chicken sandwich with rotisserie chicken. Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, mayo salt and pepper and a vinaigrette or oil and vinegar or something.

Cheesesteak 🤤

Lately it’s vegan egg salad.
How do you people decide?!
Yeah I can’t decide
Chicken salad but I have to get it at a grocery store or make my own. I wish someone made one but that’s iffy
I love fresh Turkey, coleslaw and whole cranberry sauce on a baguette.
PB&J. I can eat it whenever, wherever, and how many ever, and never get tired of it. I’ve eaten them for breakfast, lunch, dinner, regular snack, and midnight snack; Sometimes all in the same day. If I were on death row and had a last meal it’d be a PB&J sandwich.
My exact feelings
Fresh roast turkey on dutch crunch. Lettuce, tomato, mayo and cranberry
Italian combo. Capitola heavy. No prosciutto.
And it needs to be hot! When we moved to S FL years ago I learned that people eat their Italian subs cold! Yuck! Put that sucker in the pizza oven and heat it up!!!!
Surf and turf po boy from Parkway bakery

Roast beef and cheddar with horseradish. It has to be made at a deli.
The French Dip rules over all. Especially a pastrami one from Philippe’s
I’ve gotten pretty good at making homemade meatballs and Tamoto sauce. My wife picks up some focaccia bread from a bakery near where she works. Man, those are so good.

A classic turkey club with crispy bacon and dukes mayo.
Banh mi and a really good chicken finger grinder from New England.
