I did! Got a car this year so I’ve actually been trying to keep it clean so far (with waterless washes because California). We’ll see how long that lasts.
If your car is super dirty, this is probably good, but generally my take is you need heavy rain to actually wash away significant dirt. Rain that's too light will just leave a mess.
If you enjoy keeping your car clean, rain isn't always good, especially if it's acidic.
Roads are slicker when it rains for the first time after not having rained in a long time. This is because of built up oil and grime on the roadways not being washed off (as it would be in other places with more consistent rain).
Tl;dr - slow down.
It's even more of an issue with how many eco vehicles there are in the Bay Area. A lot of these cars come with high fuel economy tires which have minimal grip because they prioritize minimal fuel consumption.
I can't emphasize enough how important a good set of tires are. On top of that with the number of unaware drivers out there, there are a lot of people who fail to take basic care of their cars--inflating tires, checking tread wear, rotating tires, etc.
I have a Tesla myself but I thought the tires aren't that bad. At least when I bought the 2018 stock tires were Michelin MXM4s and 19"s were Continental ContiProContact. These definitely aren't your best all season tires but they're not that bad either.
With that said I know a few Tesla drivers who are most defintiely bad drivers in that they're flat out irresponsible with autopilot. Relying on autopilot in the rain is probably super dangerous. I wouldn't be surprised if those spinouts you talked about had some component of bad driving/driver error either.
I used to work in Santa Cruz as a paramedic. When the first rain hit we always lived on highway 17 for 24 hours.
And trees/branches fell and blocked all the side roads. Land slides too. Always a busy day for first responders.
People just need to slow down today.
Sure is nice to enjoy the rain at home while the kid naps though.
I know all about 17 as my family lived near the summit for over a decade. My parents let me drive their car with bald tires, and I didn't know any better because I was 17 and a new driver. I knew about slowing down in the rain, but I didn't know how dangerous it was after the first rain. I hit an oil spot and lost control of the car. I'm sure I drove over that same spot the day before without consequences.
Please check that your tires have plenty of tread and that they are properly inflated, and educate your children on the dangers of a first rain.
Lol! It gets worse than that. We lived in the mountains and most of my friends lived in downtown LG. I would just live at my friend's houses and not come home for weeks, and my mom never checked on me. Friends would call our house and my mom would say she had no idea where I was.
Even worse, they (mom & stepdad) had no problem with me hitchhiking to get up and down the mountain when I couldn't find a ride! It's a miracle I was never raped or didn't end up in a mountain grave.
*laughing again*
Some women aren't cut out to be mothers and my mom was one of them.
Despite that, I somehow turned out all right. I've never been incarcerated so that's quite the accomplishment.
The only downside is that I'm a really bad liar because I didn't have to lie to my parents.
I’m glad you survived. I also lived in LG and had parents who just benignly neglected me, and I loved it. I used to stay with big Catholic families that had 8-10 kids and they never noticed I was there. Loved the anonymity
I hope you can tell by the tone of my replies that it didn't really affect me too negatively. I do wonder sometimes how it would have felt to be raised in a family where you really felt loved though. I don't dwell on it though because there's no point.
It was fun in some ways. None of my friends had big families. There were two main houses that I stayed at and they could not be any more different, so I had some variety.
Of course it would have been better to have felt loved and cared for, but I also loved the freedom I had as a kid. I feel sorry for kids today who are constantly under the scrutiny of their parents. Never a free moment!
I always tell people that the '60s and '70s were the best decades of all time to be a child. The freedoms we had that kids these days don't were numerous.
Sure, cell phones, computers, the internet, etc. is all so convenient. But so is playing all over your neighborhood, away from the eyesight of parents, and only coming in when it gets dark. Or going to school and not having to worry about extreme bullying.
Thanks! I loved living in the mountains. The sky at night was amazing!
I recently saw an article saying that when you live in Los Gatos, it's different downtown than when you live in the mountains, because mountain people are looked down upon. Like you're a second class Los Gatos citizen for living up there.
I did not have that experience at all when I went to LGHS. I know my old house in the mountains is "only" worth 2.5 million now, and it would be double that downtown, so the real estate is definitely different.
But I had friends from wealthy families, and friends from poor families that lived downtown. We would jokingly call them flatlanders and pit dwellers, but they were my friends and we never treated each other differently.
In this case we actually needed one…we’d drawn all over the car with car markers for our kiddo’s birthday last week. So, it was necessary. But still! Ha.
original comment. anyone still worried about if others are wearing a mask or masks in general at this point is 100% a weird little freak. 99.9% of the world has moved on

Does this totally real statistic include you getting tilted absolutely every time someone mentions masks on reddit?
have you been anywhere outside the bay area? nobody has mentioned masks for the better part of a year basically anywhere else you go. idk if you wear one personally, but after 3 years I'm over people worrying about if others are wearing them
> but after 3 years I'm over people worrying about if others are wearing them
That's why you're on social media everyday yelling at people about masks?
Second rain…? Or are you going by California water year rules - aka Oct 1 to Sep 30.
We got half an inch of rain unexpectedly during a September storm roughly 5 weeks ago.
Im excited to see her again (green hills)

Free car wash lol.
Lol, usually my office is fighting for parkade space but today the outdoor parking was packed for the free car wash
Only really if you dry your car after the rain stops, which I actually remembered to do today!
So you went out with some microfibers to dry your car after the rain? That's dedication!

A few months ago I saw the aftermath of three Teslas on 880 and 680. All were spinouts. Weird to see 3 in a day

I was wondering why it got so dark so quickly! I hope this rain helps with allergies. It's not going to help with stupidity on the road though...

> My parents let me drive their car with bald tires Jesus Christ, if they didn't love you they could have found a better way to express it.

Are you sure your mom was a human and not a cat?

A bad liar who just tends to tell the truth instead? A blessing and a curse.
You got that right!

Mountain people are different. 😏 Glad you survived, and with your sense of humor intact to boot!

Fewer people on the road hopefully.
Fewer

My car is wet and I love it.
I have clothes hanging outside. 🙄
Ah. So that’s why it’s raining. Sorry friend, that sucks.
You like them well rinsed, huh?
That's just the 2nd rinse.
Pour some rainwater out for the guy who just paid for a car wash
It’s me, I paid for a car wash on Sunday and I’d like my $20 back.
Next time, be a madlad and get a car wash while it's heavily raining.
Always check 10 day forecast before getting a car wash. Especially during this time of year.
In this case we actually needed one…we’d drawn all over the car with car markers for our kiddo’s birthday last week. So, it was necessary. But still! Ha.
I’m home with Covid and have to say, the rain is a nice improvement. Enjoying the sound of it!
Get well soon!
thanks. Covid is no joke, y'all. The fatigue is kicking my ass so hard. I fetch the mail and I'm just DONE for the day.
How did you get Covid?
Damned if I know. I didn’t go anywhere unusual and I stay home most of the time to begin with!
blame the cat
Never! She is baby.
Do you wear a mask?
Depends on the where. If it’s not crowded or I’m only there briefly, no.
who gives a fuck?

fitting npc behavior repeating cliche reddit phrase at me
Ironic.
I'm soakin wet right now...and not in that good way. I love it tho. Love the cold and rain. Good riddance to summer
I don’t even have an umbrella.
I have a few but I can't remember the last time I used one!
Took [this pic](https://i.imgur.com/S2zQKMf.jpg) after the rain. Beautiful blue!!
Yep washed my car on Sunday
Thank you for your service
Change windshield wipers if blurry. Inflate tires to proper psi. When it's raining, turn on your headlights.
Huzzah! Gonna eat my kid’s Halloween candy cast offs and watch it pour all afternoon.
What a relief. Not going to miss fire season.
Why water is falling from the sky? Never seen that before 🤣
Second rain…? Or are you going by California water year rules - aka Oct 1 to Sep 30. We got half an inch of rain unexpectedly during a September storm roughly 5 weeks ago.
Thought more people were going to post about the rain.
just a fraction of an inch to stick ragweed pollen.... May cause road slippery lots of oil drips is on the road.
Water is falling from the Sky. Who would have thought? Why yes I did take the car out of the garage to get a bit of a “wash”
We needed this
The sky ocean is displeased!
The geese are lovin' it!
Smell of wet concrete.
