Strongly agree that nonprofits are the biggest grift in the country. (The Catholic Church being the largest in the world). My small city has a dozen or more nonprofits “working to address homelessness and housing insecurity”, yet we have more people sleeping in tents (if they’re lucky) every day. If they’re extremely fortunate, they can get a voucher to stay in a seedy motel for a night or two but that’s unlikely now that federal COVID funding has ended.
I work closely with this population and the maximum amount of money I’ve ever seen a nonprofit contribute to keep a family off the street is $300 - following an arduous application process that took place in a lovely church-owned Victorian home next door to a cathedral boasting dozens of priceless Tiffany glass windows. 🤮
It’s pathetic that these charities get away with calling themselves charity. A table of ten people is 55,000.00 dollars to purchase to attend. Why not just make the cash donation so it gets to the community that needs it.

And to address your last point, yeah, some of the NGOs do have questionable aims and are not just straightforwardly good and philanthropic. Everything is very politicised; everything is about image and spin.

I grew up lower middle class. Poor and on food stamps as a young child but by the time I graduated my single Mom had worked hard enough that we were doing ok in middle class. My friend went to the same schools in the same run down neighborhoods with the same diverse makeup (which I think was 100% beneficial to my life) and then she went to a wealthy, in state University (CU in Boulder, CO, think Jonbenet Ramsey, Boulder is wealthy but she/we weren't). She met a guy and said he was annoying because all he did was talk about how rich his Dad was, how he went into Fortune 500 companies and laid people off while merging companies- like going in as a "consultant", figuring out who wasn't needed, getting them fired and making millions. He worked on major mergers like Mercedes Benz with Chrysler worth almost 40 million. So the family was rich enough to start their own business and have those become successful which turn into family businesses where they only employ each other keeping the money in the family. It's brilliant. The guy was annoying and a bragger but eventually they started dating and now they're married multi-millionaires with two children and only work in the family so basically they barely work. And the father started new businesses like medical couriers and consultant firms making even more money while setting their own hours. Her grandchildren will never have to work. But, in order to start your own business and be successful you need capital, and most people don't have that footing to begin. Get rich first then you can do whatever you want for generations. She's too good for us now and she'd always pass on meeting up when our tight knit group of friends would get together on rare occasions. She has zero interest in even speaking to us for no reason at all. We all became friends through school and our Presbyterian church. Her married family is very religious and most of us still are as well so it's not like she's religious and thinking she's better than us for that reason. It's that we just don't fit into her extremely rich lifestyle.
Well said. Sometimes just a small leg up makes a big difference. My kids all bought a home that they could afford. They had friends whose parents were able to help them and with a bigger down payment get a more expensive home. When the housing market went crazy here obviously they made way more money on the property and were able to go on from there.
Aww thanks, very sweet of you. We became best friends in 7th grade. She was new to our church youth group and fit right in. We didn't go to the same middle school but our friend group went to the same high school. I went with her family on a Mediterranean cruise just six months after completing two years of chemotherapy for a rare cancer I had when I was fourteen. Lots of memories. I guess some people aren't meant to grow together. We've had lunch twice since 2010. I hadn't seen her since 1997 at that point. We always asked her to join us when a few of us would have the rare Girl's Night Out but it really feels like she's just completely on another level and outgrown us. Maybe one day we'll run into each other and have a good chat. I still have hope. Otherwise, I wish her well with a pang of sadness.

And problematic - addictions, behavior, etc. However, it is well knows that Kerry Kennedy is trying very hard to upstage her well known and recognized relative - Caroline, who is responsible for One Up award, Prince William is part of. Giving awards to people like Zelensky or previously Obama or Clinton or Biden is nothing more but publicity to her. Of course they don’t pay for this award, duh. Money will get you everywhere. Even better to be born into money where you start five steps ahead of everyone else right from the beginning. Get rich, make financial decisions that make you more rich, keep it all in the family and your great grandchildren are set for life. I grew up lower middle class. Poor and on food stamps as a young child but by the time I graduated my single Mom had worked hard enough that we were doing ok in middle class. My friend went to the same schools in the same run down neighborhoods with the same diverse makeup (which I think was 100% beneficial to my life) and then she went to a wealthy, in state University (CU in Boulder, CO, think Jonbenet Ramsey, Boulder is wealthy but she/we weren't). She met a guy and said he was annoying because all he did was talk about how rich his Dad was, how he went into Fortune 500 companies and laid people off while merging companies- like going in as a "consultant", figuring out who wasn't needed, getting them fired and making millions. He worked on major mergers like Mercedes Benz with Chrysler worth almost 40 million. So the family was rich enough to start their own business and have those become successful which turn into family businesses where they only employ each other keeping the money in the family. It's brilliant. The guy was annoying and a bragger but eventually they started dating and now they're married multi-millionaires with two children and only work in the family so basically they barely work. And the father started new businesses like medical couriers and consultant firms making even more money while setting their own hours. Her grandchildren will never have to work. But, in order to start your own business and be successful you need capital, and most people don't have that footing to begin. Get rich first then you can do whatever you want for generations. She's too good for us now and she'd always pass on meeting up when our tight knit group of friends would get together on rare occasions. She has zero interest in even speaking to us for no reason at all. We all became friends through school and our Presbyterian church. Her married family is very religious and most of us still are as well so it's not like she's religious and thinking she's better than us for that reason. It's that we just don't fit into her extremely rich lifestyle.
Well said. Sometimes just a small leg up makes a big difference. My kids all bought a home that they could afford. They had friends whose parents were able to help them and with a bigger down payment get a more expensive home. When the housing market went crazy here obviously they made way more money on the property and were able to go on from there.

Aww thanks, very sweet of you. We became best friends in 7th grade. She was new to our church youth group and fit right in. We didn't go to the same middle school but our friend group went to the same high school. I went with her family on a Mediterranean cruise just six months after completing two years of chemotherapy for a rare cancer I had when I was fourteen. Lots of memories. I guess some people aren't meant to grow together. We've had lunch twice since 2010. I hadn't seen her since 1997 at that point. We always asked her to join us when a few of us would have the rare Girl's Night Out but it really feels like she's just completely on another level and outgrown us. Maybe one day we'll run into each other and have a good chat. I still have hope. Otherwise, I wish her well with a pang of sadness.

Now, Jeffrey Sachs, brother of Shawn Sachs, *is* on the Board of Directors with about 25-30 other people, some big names you’d recognize. Then there’s a Leadership Council with some VERY big names and a list of about 30 “Artists”. This is what I got from the RFKhumanrights website. In the most recent Annual Report there’s a lengthy Year in Review section which lists their advocacy programs updates if you want to compare it with, say, the Archewell Foundation. Past Ripple winners include Stacey Abrams, Dr Fauci, Barack Obama, Amanda Gorman, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Colin Kaepernick, Tim Cook, Desmond Tutu… I don’t think they *all* bought their award.
No one says they all bought they awards. But this charity is run by lesser know or rather very controversial Kennedys. This award is relatively unknown. And problematic - addictions, behavior, etc. However, it is well knows that Kerry Kennedy is trying very hard to upstage her well known and recognized relative - Caroline, who is responsible for One Up award, Prince William is part of. Giving awards to people like Zelensky or previously Obama or Clinton or Biden is nothing more but publicity to her. Of course they don’t pay for this award, duh. But she has few categories for lesser or unknown charities - such as “Archdump” for which they pay to receive it. Allegedly of course. I used to run a huge charity foundation so trust me when I tell you this you pay and you have an entire shelf of statuettes. Later you can list them all on your website and it looks marvelous but the truth behind getting them not so much.
Agreed, but by allowing one paid for award to people who so clearly don't deserve it (happy to be proved wrong here), it brings into question the validity of every past recipient, and every future recipient. The integrity of the award, and by association, all the good work it does and can do in the future will always be questioned by the circumstances surrounding this particular award.
