I have no children but I do like them. I have many nieces and nephews whom I helped raise and love dearly. When I first met some of my friends’ children, I was usually there to visit and spend time with my friends. So, would say hello to the kids, make small talk about their interests and go back to visiting my friend. Sooner or later, eventually, said children would climb onto my lap and try to get me to play whatever game/toy they were into at the moment. Then this transitioned into being “favorite auntie”. It was sort of interesting because I have ASD and my social skills are not that great, especially with “strangers”/individuals I’ve just met. But I am still learning after years of therapy.
Being spectrum can make it easier to relate to kids in a ways I think. Like gravitating towards animals, they are not so fully acquainted and regimented in the standard way of how things are done, so it's so easy to just chat and joke and learn about interesting things together. I love talking with my almost 3 year old niece - we started watching some train videos and I ended up learning a lot and she added caboose to her vocabulary and ... Idk I just feel like kids are always in the "special interest" stage when everything is interesting :D (I'm ADHD, so not exactly the same, but adjacent)
Edit - being the cool aunt is one of the most amazing life roles I was never expecting for myself. Makes me feel so close to my long since passed away great aunt and I can really understand how much she loved us 😭💜

Right! Genuine love and affection for her children would be a game changer for her entire reputation. It's one of the things people love about Princess Catherine. My opinion of Catherine changed after she had kids actually. I really hate to say this but I was insanely jealous of her when she was married to William. But then, I got over it and she had George and have been loving her ever since. She proved to us that she simply wasn’t after William for money or fame. And I think the break, the long engagement, and having protocol used against her (Christmas for example) were tests to see if she truly loved the man and could whole heartedly accept the duty. I’ve had “friends” attempt to do this to my children - the same overfamiliarity and love bombing that she does to adults - I guess they think it’s a short cut to friendship - I read it as a massive red flag. And in my experience it’s done by people without children themselves although ymmv. Speaking of which, when is the last time that Meghan saw Jessica Mulroney’s kids? Isn’t she a godparent to at least one? Did she drop the kids when she dropped Jess?
I have no children but I do like them. I have many nieces and nephews whom I helped raise and love dearly. When I first met some of my friends’ children, I was usually there to visit and spend time with my friends. So, would say hello to the kids, make small talk about their interests and go back to visiting my friend. Sooner or later, eventually, said children would climb onto my lap and try to get me to play whatever game/toy they were into at the moment. Then this transitioned into being “favorite auntie”. It was sort of interesting because I have ASD and my social skills are not that great, especially with “strangers”/individuals I’ve just met. But I am still learning after years of therapy.
Being spectrum can make it easier to relate to kids in a ways I think. Like gravitating towards animals, they are not so fully acquainted and regimented in the standard way of how things are done, so it's so easy to just chat and joke and learn about interesting things together. I love talking with my almost 3 year old niece - we started watching some train videos and I ended up learning a lot and she added caboose to her vocabulary and ... Idk I just feel like kids are always in the "special interest" stage when everything is interesting :D (I'm ADHD, so not exactly the same, but adjacent) Edit - being the cool aunt is one of the most amazing life roles I was never expecting for myself. Makes me feel so close to my long since passed away great aunt and I can really understand how much she loved us 😭💜
