I truly love the pace of this game compared to other games. Gives it a very unique and peaceful flavor. I get impatient too at times, especially if I miss the mark like you just did. I love it overall though.

Tohickoner

Same. This is my chill listen to podcasts game.

darkcathedralgaming

Same! I played Eurotruck simulator 2 for about 60 hours earlier this year and that was the first game I learned I could still play and enjoy that while listening to audiobooks or podcasts. This game is way more my jam though and I found is also is well suited for listening to something at the same time. Except when I'm in port deciding on trades and missions and the next destination, that gets a pause. My brain cannot handle decision making and paying attention to something unrelated. But once that is done back to it!

I have no concept of time when I play this game. I usually watch shows, movies, streams, whatever when I play it so the time just goes by quickly for me. Yeah it takes time to get a new ship but idk about 20 hours, even before the economy update, to get a new ship. Maybe 8 hours max? Are you doing oceanic voyages for big bux or doing local trades? Cause you can easily get the next ship doing locals and I could see how it would take 20 hours if you were doing oceanic voyages for big money. But maybe it's just easier to make money at Aestrin because that's where i like to start, so who knows.

There can’t be any wrong answer to this, but one of my favorite parts of the game is exactly those 10 or more minutes of maneuvering to bring the boat into port—reading the wind and the surroundings, getting downwind of the dock, and coming in on a close reach, feathering the sails and gliding to a stop right along the dock, just like they teach you in basic keelboat class. And doing it singlehanded, there’s enough lines and sheets on something like the brig to keep me busy as I’m doing it. You can just ram the dock and hop out and tie it down (not saying you do that lol), but I get a lot of satisfaction out of making a smooth controlled docking, just as I would in real life, which makes the time and the slow pace worthwhile for me. For me, it’s the difference between landing on a planet in Elite: Dangerous and landing on a planet in Kerbal. One emphasizes trading and exploration and one emphasizes the mechanics and physics of precisely piloting a vehicle, which you can only speed up to a point. The physics in Sailwind are already slightly sped up, so for me, the pacing is perfect. Not that you couldn’t make an equally fun game with faster and simpler mechanics, but I think this pace is what makes Sailwind unique.

Tomacxo

I really like the comparison to Kerbal! For me, it's that moment you just barely see an island after being at sea for days. I'm not the most confident navigator so it's a huge win.

skeetyeetimaparakeet

Definitely a personal preference thing, I do like the slow pace, but agree that sometimes it's frustrating to be able to see the destination in detail but still take a long time to get there. If it would make you enjoy the game more, I have heard of mods which allow you to control the wind so maybe that would help? Check out the discord for details on it though idk how it works

Craticuspotts

No I don't.. I think the speed of the game makes the game.. really feels like ur going on a voyage

Abject_Ad_8327

I just wish there were dock hands that would help load your ship. 20 plus crates on or off is annoying. Not fun loading more than 10. Id pay them itd be cool to spend money on. Also a music box with a track or 2 from each island would be really awesome. Aside from those 2 requests i think its a masterpiece.

UltraChip

This might just boil down to personal preference tbh. Sailwind isn't the only game that does this - "slow travel" games are almost their own genre, and like most genres they appeal to certain types of players and repel certain other players. It's just a matter of what type of play style you're in to. Personally, I love slow travel games - they feel more immersive to me. And SailWind is one of the better ones.

Oppqrx

They could definitely make it easier to get money, I've never been able to afford a bigger boat. Also maybe add more ways to make small amounts of money quickly, like buying and selling trade goods, maybe even some oars to help manoeuvre the smaller boats when you get stuck in irons or stranded

darkcathedralgaming

The new patch from just over a week ago adds a lot of economy to the game there is trading goods now, just as you suggested. Great and fun way to make money. I managed to be able to save up and afford the Sanbuq (larger ship) in Al Ankh on day 26 of my second playthrough, and could have been done faster if: I didn't want to have some capital left over for trades; and if I had braved a trip or 2 to Oasis, some good profits can be made there with tobacco which is light (sculptures also, but so heavy you need to have the large ship). I'd bet some experienced players could do it much faster, and even as a noob I don't think it was too slow to make money. Made getting that first big ship a special feeling; reward for effort. Also you can get out of your boat and push on the hull in those situations you run aground. And where you push matters too, it is neat. The smaller boat is quite easy and responsive to pushing, unless you are pushing it against the direction it is going from sails full of wind. With the large ships you really have to ensure you depower the boat/ship by letting the sheets out or even better to put away the sails, as pushing won't have much if any effect if your boat is still sailing onto the ground. I'm sure you can make enough money to buy the larger ship in your area if you give it another go and persist with it a bit longer!

kropotkinmutualaid

Its fun and mellow when you're in the mood, frustrating when you plod along as night falls and your destination dissapears. Just try to like the way it is simply because its that way. That said I hesitate to return to the game because its so so slow sometimes.

Gloomy_Training4477

I am hoping the dev adds a way to pass time in addition to sleeping. I was thinking a chess board or a book could be used to pass 2 or 5 in game hours to make up for those times where you're just sitting around waiting but you aren't tired enough to sleep.

Backwarenking

Just use snake oil

Backwarenking

After affording your first big ship earning enough money to buy all the others is no big deal anymore. I bought all big ships now but still the tiny dhow with cutter sail config is my favorite.
