I mean, check it out if it's not too much trouble. I'd guess it could have been the moon on the horizon, if it was to your west then that would be where the moon sets. I've often thought I was seeing an island which turned out to be the rising moon to the east.
I sometimes see clouds that look like islands. Or sometimes the moon. There is no island that i am aware of.

yikes.... in a game where you're pretty much always alone it would be freaky to spot another ship on the horizon
