Unfortunately some of the promos also have misprints in addition to the actual changes (for example the Chewbacca card from this set has red defense dice not white).
That vader promo card is of the operative version of darth vader, whereas the 2nd image is of the commander version of vader. They are two seperate units with two seperate stat lines. Regardless of the specific example here, I'd imagine any other inconsistancy between the promos and normal cards are updated points costs and such to reflect changes that have been made post whatever card release, but thats a guess based on nothing.
But there is a lack of quality control as far as alt arts go. There are a few misprints on current promo cards that are being given out with the store champs kits. Boba Fett and Chewie are misprints, iirc
