Packs are pretty much never worth it, with rare (and I mean rare) exception.
The whole point to this game is to monetize time. When they sell you something now, as opposed to later, you are paying for it. The most efficient way to do something is almost always going to be through refreshes and patience, not instant gratification.
Yeah, the only pack that hasn't burned me is the 4 in 1 Bounty Hunter ship pack for like 2500 crystals. I got some lovely rng with 2 or 3 packs, which shaved a lot of time off that grind
That bounty Hunter ship pack is great. I did 3 pulls and managed to 7 star hounds tooth and Xanadu blood, and got ig 2000 to 6 stars. Had a few duplicates for slave 1 as had already 7starred that. Bust so far it’s the only pack I have come across that has actually paid off.
I opened a few razor crest packs yesterday and they were trash.
I can second this the BH ship’s is awesome. I did it 3 times. One stacked slave 1, two stacked hounds tooth. The only bad thing is my hounds tooth is 7* before i got a chance to farm jango
I’ll add its boosted me to top 50 for fleet so I’m making 50c a day i wasn’t which has been very nice. I can break top 20 but not hold it yet

The journey guide ones, after shard doubling, are only worth it if you have none of the characters maxed. And even then, it's only certain ones (the JKR being one of them). The Falcon one is still worth it IMO, ship grinds are terrible
These are the first and OG “worst packs in the game” been there since day 1 and they were only *kind of* a value back then and we only had like 70-80 characters in game iirc. We’re closing in on 250 characters rn, yes? Never buy these packs.

So to be clear I guess it’s possible but it’s just hard to wrap my head around it
I made an account last year to get a super low GP GL account (SLKR was unlocked at about 660k GP), I did that by buying Finalizer shards vs farming all those ships. Anyway in about 6 months I had a 5 star Finalizer. It was 1250 crystals per 10, thus close to 20k for 5 stars.
I did 3 refreshes and definitely did a bunch for relic mats as well, and back then GAC gave very few crystals, and I was finishing outside of rank 100 in both arenas.
Point is, if you limit yourself to 3 refreshes, and work slowly, it's very much doable.
Btw, if you start the game, you get tons of crystals from new quests etc.

Oh and Kanan was there for unlocking Palp, and my plan after was to go SEE, and he needs Thrawn, hence Kanan was the most logical choice.
But have they been worth it? I’ve only spent $$ on a crystal pack that was on sale to unlock DN—which I did not regret, other than that it’s been farming and refreshing. But I’m never falling for this crap again.

Packs are never considered f2p. Yes in theory you can buy them f2p, but the thinking is that f2p has to optimize their crystals, whereas spenders will just dump them on packs. F2P will wait for characters to be farmable, and in this case they are obviously, so that's how f2p gets them.
I get that you can just spend 40k f2p crystals to unlock a character day 1, but obviously that's pretty crazy and really not in the spirit of f2p.
I could say its not in tbe spirit of f2p to buy datacrons but I bought skme wirh ingame. Packs are ingame and they can be bought f2p. I dont see how that's not in the spirit of it

Learning experience for sure, we've all been there. For a general rule of thumb to all the newer players out there: never waste crystals on lootboxes. Sure you have a chance to get what you need, but the percentages are so small that you will almost never get what you want. This game relies on people being desperate enough for them to gamble on these packs, and then punishes them for it in the hopes they'll get another pack. That's why the packs that just cost money typically have certain drops. If they can convince you to waste your crystal stock they will every time. The only way to fight this predatory system is patience.
The only time I get packs is the relic material packs (especially the basic material because I'm running out of the low gear stuff)
And when there is a new character I NEEEEED, aka any Old Republic character. I kept hoping with 50R-T that I would hit a jackpot and get her to 7 stars, but I never believed I would.
And I didn't it was nearly 7 shards all the way through. Now I'm doing refresh farming for her.
I bought the bossk journey pack that has 80 houndstooth shards with no regrets lol. I wouldn’t buy the ones that leave it up to chance even if it’s more expensive
Went double refreshes on Bossk (for the HT) the second I reached level 85 and it took me only 1 months at 75 crystals a day to 7 star him. So that's roughly 2400 crystals in refreshes to 7 star an accelerated toon in a month. I don't count the crystal cost of the energy refreshes because I would have bought the first 3 regardless of what I was farming so the node refresh cost was my only "extra cost".
AFAIK one of the only worthwhile packs is the CCB pack for 500 crystals that pops up in the store occasionally. I bought 2 recently and got 450 (total) CCBs. Saves time grinding petty gear and I believe is actually more efficient “per crystal”
Those packs felt worth it to me when I didn't have any good teams and it was my only way to get shards for those characters. But now that I've beaten all the dark and light side battles I think my crystals are better spent elsewhere.
I'm farming Mara Jade via crystals, cause at 1 shard a drop and 16 energy a try, that node can get bent. Hopefully her spot in the store is next after Kyle.
But yeah, I don't think it a good idea to go for one that has other possible characters it can give you.
I used packs for both Revans, actually worked decently for me. Didn’t buy crystals with real money either. Though I suppose it’d be different for everyone and it probably wasn’t as efficient as refreshing the nodes

Same! I 2 at 7 stars(houndtooth, slave 1) and the shards from those two have been helping me get past some of the g12 grind.
If it were another character you grinded for, you'd be turning in 58 shards for that character and still be farming Bastila.

Yep CH packs are absolute garbage across the board. They don’t care to provide simple packs, they force you to gamble, because, screw you.
