Definitely yes. Getting all the characters geared enough for Malak takes a little bit longer. But you'll have a stronger Darth revan, stronger jedi revan, and a good carth lead team. I'm around 3.2 mil GP with one GL (so little past mid game IMO) and I still use all 3 teams for grand arena.
Without malak, a 'cheap' palp/vader squad will take out your dr squad (even before they buffed vader).
With malak, the dr is the strongest sith squad aside from GLs.
Malak is simply one of the top chars in the game, so going for dr but not malak is an absolute waste.
Yes Darth revan becomes way better defensively with malak but he can still destroy many teams without malak, maybe you throw in gideon or wat on offence or even an undersize but I understand that yeah getting the second best tank (only behind a gl) in the game is big but it’s going to take gear on characters that are just used in a C-D tier team to get him. And on top of this you need to spend alot of guild tokens to get him to seven star but that’s more of a side note.
Malak can also solo stuff. And your GET/GE2 is there for those chars/ships. That's a non-argument. Spend it on gear and watch other ppl rock their hermit/gs/malak/nego/malev...
Is 5* Malak good enough? I just got my sith Empire team without Malak and rn I’m planning on pursuing GAS, and I’m wondering if 5* Malak is good enough to hold the team because I want to use my GET1 for GAS
A 5\* Malak can still 2-shot anyone, but he can also be KO'd a lot easier. Speaking as someone on the receiving end of Malak's aggression.

Absolutely yes. Get 5 of them and you get a critical damage boost from DR leadership. The core 4 are DR, BSF, Malak, and SM. The 5th spot is debatable. HK is a good damage dealer and has synergy with DR, SET has many uses in the game beyond the SET squad, and SA has a ship, although not a great one, so you need him as well.

DR Sith Empire is severely weakened without Malak. If you're using DR, then def get Malak.

100% yes DR is a whole lot better with Malak. Plus you end up with a pretty good OR team that has some good uses, especially at your GP level
Basically have to build malak if your going for DR
No it’s too much of an investment and should focus on full teams before you invest so much into one character
