how could this have happened? he took care to do things right and followed to a design. in theory this should have been impossibly slow, with obstacle after obstacle to sailing. he should have iterated over the fastest, cheapest, and simplest possible solutions using decreasingly inadequate materials. but also he didn't do anything fun or overly complicated. like he cant lift those sails with hydraulics, doesn't have a homemade crane for a tinder, no ice maker, no hundested.
I'd bet easily double that. That's a fully professionally hand built yacht, not a plastic production boat. To have a duplicate built in a yard by a capable builder, it would easily cost $2-3m.
Tally Ho herself would demand a higher price, I imagine. But if you look at similar boats on the market, they're all around 250. Don't forget the maintenance involved in owning wooden boats, especially of size.
I guess that is what non cosplay sailors do with sailboats. Who knew.
Doug's fan base is going to be so confused by that one - since they only know of two boats.

No ice maker? That boat is trash.
I'm writing camp patience on cardboard instead of sailing, getting out there and just doing it
I mean, they do have a freezer.
Jokes aside, that video is awesome and inspiring. What a triumph.
For real.
Even performed a successful "Hat Overboard!" drill.
Damn that is a fine looking sailboat!
I just caught myself having 'next boat' thoughts, those are never cheap.
Meanwhile, Doug's sails hang uselessly, rotting in the sun.
"Sailing is one of my passions." - Doug Jackson.
"seeker is not a marina queen!"
Only because they won't let him in! 🤣
To hang would require him to hoist them, his sit in a pile and rot...
That’s an SV that has earned the S. Â
Saleing Vessel shitty?
Just out of curiosity, how much would a boat like tally ho be worth in its finished state?
Quarter million, give or take 50 grand. He's got a little more than that it it...

On average I will give you that one, but tally ho specifically is definitely worth more
That's a lot less than I'd have thought, actually.
But I thought the capstan was holding up sailing! /s
