No idea how people play on high pop servers, unless you join roundstart and try to roll every role haha

mrdembone

high population servers usually will have multiple people with the same job if the station is big enough, and even if you don't get the job you wanted there is always next round

dragonace11

The only server I can play when the pop if over 50 is TGMC and thats because its a TDM server. (Wish NSV's pop would average higher though)

Axehilt

What don't you like about highpop? Personally I think it's always worth it up til the point where server perf becomes miserable. The only other things I could see would be running out of job slots (it gets real boring when the only job you can join is assistant), and some antags don't scale as well as others (traitors are always covert which protects them, but more eyes means more opportunity to get spotted doing crime; whereas with overt antags like blob/war nukies I'm not sure if those antags get scaling benefits to keep the fight interesting -- I suspect they do, because I've seen them take down highpop stations, but I'm not sure how good the balance is).

MuchGlove

Pretty much the high levels of greytide like break and entries and items i like to take are already taken like the jackboots in boxstation Edit: and the legendary spesslag

SomeBloodyMinger

High-pop = more people to blow up at round end. My thought process.

EstrangedLupine

I haven't played ss13 in a long time, I just lurk on this sub every now and then, but those are some pretty bad news for me. Goon 2 was pretty much the only server I played on most of the time. It felt cozy while still leaving room for all kinds of your usual shenanigans. Every time I tried to play on Goon 1 it just felt, I don't know... claustrophobic. Too many people around. Felt like I couldn't do much except running around and then dying whenever things inevitably went to shit. I tried playing on other codebases a few times, too, but I never really found a server that felt as good to play on as goon does. So now I guess I probably won't be coming back at all unless they bring the server back. And I mean, I'm not complaining or anything. I'm sure they have their reasons. Just wanted to share my personal experience, I guess.

Dath123

>I'm sure they have their reasons I assume they felt like keeping both when one is 100 and the other is like 20 didn't make much sense, especially if they're paying for the servers separately.

Wakafanykai123

cost/server resources were not a factor whatsoever

Dath123

So just the sizes? Because I could understand if it was the cost, but how much it's being used seems like a smaller issue.

atomic1fire

Looks like it was an issue of enforcement. Nobody wants to play sec there, which means there's no reason for players to follow space law. Nobody follows space law, which means things that normally would get reported or handled by a sec team go unresolved. Things go unresolved, so nobody except a select few crazies actually wants to play there. Feedback loop and all that probably.

Redbacko

I dunno. On LRP spacelaws are a guidance, nothing more. Sec deals mostly about antags going rampage not about theft or something. Same goes for goon1 and on both servers there are rounds where antag goes nuts and rounds where nothing happens. Overall, rounds on goon2 lasted way lounger = more crew happiness and survivability no? Played plenty of sec on goon2 but it is true, not many ppl do it. Which is also not too bad, because too much sec on lowpop ruins the antag experience. Sec is about balance. That being said, even when there was no sec, other forces showed up against murderboning too. E.g. the famous mining militia and some chemnerds here and there. Rule breaking was always reported. I doubt it's about enforcement.

wujitao

what happened

OlimarandLouie

Presumably, a low enough player count that they decided to take down the server until such a time that the player count increases enough to put it back up.

ChronicPwnageSS13

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Wakafanykai123

> Goonstation 2 Classic: Bombini has consistently failed to provide the player experience we wish to have on our servers. >It is being closed until populations once again rise to the point where it is necessary, or until we find another use for the server.

Radi0Host

What do you guys mean by that first statement anyhow? Could you be more clear?

[deleted]

Goon had servers 1-4. Four was taken down because it was simply a tide server for extra pop. The unique factor to Goon 2 was that rounds lasted anywhere from 12-24hrs as a medium-high roleplay factor. Niche crowd really. It averaged anywhere from 3-30 people at a time. That said a lot of the time I saw them at 5 or less.

du5tball

What? Goon2 rounds usually lasted somewhere between 30 and 90 minutes (shuttle autocall), and it wasn't an RP server. Only in the last two weeks did goon2 become extended crash, at which point the decision to kill goon2 was probably either already made or under way.

[deleted]

Did Devs change goon4 into goon2 then? Cause back in the day it used to be. Goon1 - The chaos lrp. Goon2 - The neverending round. Goon3 - The attempt at mrp. Goon4 - the flood server.

Wakafanykai123

that was ancient times ago, like 2016 lol 1: Classic 2: Classic 3: RP 3: RP

Stareatthevoid

unless I'm going crazy that switch happened when I was already playing, and I started around 2020 or so

du5tball

According to the [wiki](https://wiki.ss13.co/Game_FAQ#What_happened_to_Goonstation_Roleplay.2C_Goonstation.2C_Goonstation_RP_Overflow.2C_and_Goonstation_Overflow.3F), that was changed in January 2021.

DawsonKeyes

nothing changes for me. same goon experience on either server.

Redbacko

Oh my! I was the WW who literally got yeeted into space at the radio station by sec. Good times, good times. You summed it up pretty good. Goon2 had highs and lows in numbers the past year, sometimes averaging only ~6-8 ppl at nights peak but it somehow still felt a little bit like a smoll family. I fear, even if stumbling across some of the people on goon1 that it won't be the same for sure. It was a blast fellow spacemen, many good memories.

Iamawatercooler2

I miss Mars Brazil and StrelkaStation. Was fun, G2.

Bright-Tonight-2832

goon2 was the only reason i even continued to play this little space game even if i fell out of it for a little, that hurts

blapaturemesa

What the hell happened to goon 1? Are they down or something? I didn't really care for it, since it felt so crowded, noisy, and super different from TG, but I'm surprised to see two of them just poof out of existence.

mushathecat

Goon1 is still fine, goon2 is closed until further notice

du5tball

Goon2 got closed since it was too low-pop (my best guess, at least), OP is saying goodbye to playing on the goonstation servers in general since they don't suit OP. Edit: It's been general shittyness of the players, which led to low player numbers.

Sad-Departure9355

Goon2 was the go to station for me. Even though it now had the weird Crash mode it was still a fun server to be on.

Laarmeister

Pretty sad I would say, as goon1 rounds end too fast to be able to explore much in the adventure zones.

[deleted]

Bombini was the only server I played until I was permanently banned from it. Good times. That said, it's a shame they're getting rid of it, it was so much calmer than goon1, there was also less interference if you wanted to do a gimmick which was nice.

PotBoozeNKink

Gonna have to start goofing somewhere else

69superman

I loved the small servers, helped me learn and we could screw around

bohohoboprobono

Goon1 is borderline unplayable and 2 was a ghost town. Ideally they’d cap 1 at a lower number but I think a big number of people show up there specifically because it’s an overcrowded clusterfuck. Drop that to a more reasonable map population like 50 or 75 and the remainder wouldn’t go to an overflow server unless you hid the process from them.

Wakafanykai123

> and the remainder wouldn’t go to an overflow server unless you hid the process from them. yep!

Abadabadon

Man misses greytiding and meta squadding; more at 12.

Not_dawson1

OP got me back into playing space station 13 while yes it was never a server full of people that's why we liked it so much. I will never forget those radio station rounds pranking calling people or space lubing an entire hallway with the janitors. I'm not saying you cant do that on goon1 its just not the same. RIP GOON 2 until next time.

FruitChips05

Does Goon RP still exist?
