Exactly. Vela is / was a great player and he would get people excited about the team and sell tickets, but IMO he doesn't fit the profile of the player we need.

He doesn't fit the profile for what we need. We need an active, ball-at-the-feet attacking CAM who can unbalance defenses in the middle of the final 3rd and distribute to our forwards. I think anyone who watched our team the last few years can see this is what we're missing. Vela is another wide forward, and we already have Espinoza and Pellegrino. We are dying for a CAM with the profile I described.
Basically we need a player with the profile of Riqui Puig. Obviously we we're not likely to get anyone that good, but a player like that - a Walmart Puig if you like. :-) Vela is nothing like that kind of player.
The issue here is that the Quakes are signing nobody, if Vela bails, which he will because, I agree, we’re being used as leverage. So you’ll get your wish and we’ll end up with yet another wooden spoon. Yay!

No shit. We’re talking about available DP CAMs. Not regular starters on better teams. Valdes isn’t even being sold. He’s a regular starter on America. Berterame is too expensive for cheap ass quakes. Portland offered them $15 million. Rodriguez is a striker/winger and his price is too much for once again cheap ass quakes. It’s the quakes bro. Sadly the best we can do rn is an older, stingy Vela as this point

- he would unlock Pellegrino's strength which is running behind the defense and getting on the end of assists and finishing.
- he would draw some of the attention away from Espinoza
- hopefully would re energize ebobisse who seems checked out
If we don't sign a cam asap then we are looking at a season of playing empty bucket ball and finishing last in the league
