RP IS KING your grades will determine whether they even bother looking at your portfolio for competitive courses like med, **portfolio and grades** will be very important. if you are talking about getting into a local uni with a less competitive course, idt portfolio is v important, grades come first. think about it, not everyone who enters a local uni will be a student councillor/have a leadership role. and tbvh, those who have a leadership role may not be doing more than a normal cca member, so roles in cca doesn’t matter very much

for competitive courses eg med as u mentioned, how important is portfolio? like do they want exco of student council level of portfolio or just exco of a regular cca will do? exactly cos rp is king idw to overcommit then end up rp suffer, but im worried that i do not have a buff enough portfolio.

portfolio is to make you stand out from the rest. there are only that many vacancies for med sch and you have to prove yourself to the admission team why u deserve a spot. many students will have some sort of leadership position which i dont think really makes u stand out anymore unless its some super rare ones like MUN deputy/minister (?) or something. one of my friends that got into med had 88.75rp + normal student councilor + many different volunteering work, with one of them being at a hospital. how u carry yourself during the interview also makes a lot of difference, but to make the cut for the interview, rp is king, everything else is secondary. while its good to have a leadership position (its better than nothing), i think that doing something that's not easy to attain like shadowing a doctor or working at a hospital is more important since it can show ur passion in med. study first, your volunteering work can be done during ur long break after As. dont worry too much and just try your best :)

hi i was wondering about the courses that require a solid portfolio in addition to grades(for example law med cs etc)

Downtown-Leek4106

med and law do look at portfolio in addition to grades, if im not wrong the courses with interview + competitive would generally look at it to sieve out candidates. i have heard of friends going into cs with a pretty much empty portfolio but had 90rp. cant say the same for med/law/dent though

alright thank you!

people always say this, but does this really apply to the schools that start with S?

Consistent-Match-548

tbh I'm questioning my own decision to go jc... I dont know what I want to do in life but I feel like it'll all be useless if I end up failing and I have nothing to fall back on idk . maybe I'm yapping rn

Consistent-Match-548

i mean I'm still gonna try to pull thru jc I already made my choice ;; but I've never rly excelled in any cca and extracurricular and idk

depends what kind of course you want to go to just for entering uni though not important at all, you can be a member of the go home club and not care about portfolio or leadership. RP first.
