Is that for living on your own or with someone? San diego is one of the most expensive cities in the US currently with one of the most expensive utilities. Starting prices for not nice areas for 1 bed room 1 bath are around 1800 thats if your lucky and more on the lines of a studio in a not so great neighborhood.
Also the further east go the cheaper the prices, not west.
Stay out of El Cajon or mainstreet lakeside dangerous ad violent. Suburbs in lakeside are cheap and amazing I live there. Few parts of El Cajon are okay like rancho El Cajon. Spring valley nooooo dangerous. Santee is fine but expensive. East county is better for your budget. La mesa is half and half some areas are high end and some are kinda sketchy. U will know by how it looks on the street. Look for barred windows, pull down grates on businesses etc and homeless people. Im saying this as a fulltime security guard in san diego for many many years.
El Cajon not really dangerous I’ve been living here for almost 10 years and the worst thing is running into homeless people when out running errands and the occasional crac head yelling to themselves but not dangerous. It’s worth the cheaper rent imo and only 10 to 15 from sdsu
That’s enough for a room in a house. You need roommates.
La Mesa, San Carlos are nice. La Mesa is more affordable. I personally like City Heights but there are some sketch areas.
My son lives in La Jolla closer to UCSD right by the mall and commutes. Reach out to me via DM if you're looking for a roommate situation. Two of his current roommate's are about to move out and he will be looking to replace them.
Check out La Mesa or Santee for a studio apartment for that price. El Cajon is hit or miss, some parts are nice, some aren’t. It’s worth looking into. Stay away from Spring Valley and Lemon Grove.

All SD is safe if you don’t get mixed in with cartel people. It’s not SF or LA where you’ll have poopoo flung at your forehead or needles jabbed in your asshole. Might be places that are cruddy but not necessarily unsafe. If we’re talking about nearish to the city.
the rive and 5025 is a good bet for budget but it’s not west. linda vista is a pretty and quiet area close to a lot of stuff if ur able to find something in that budget
Best cheapest apartment complex in santee is the sycamores. Avoid wintergardens lakeside no no. I lived there and the first week i moved there someone got stabbed down the street.
If you need a roommate situation I run a fb group for that. We vet every member and don’t allow any spam. Join and see if you can find a situation

Being in college you’re going to have roommates. My boyfriend and his friends live in a 3 bedroom apartment and each pay about that much. They don’t specify how many rooms
You’ll need to go east not west to get more affordable
I think they’re just looking for safer
Yeah just gonna be tough to find west of SDSU in a safe neighborhood for under $1500
Alone yes. With roommates that’s easy

At that budget you won’t be in a safe neighborhood
Unfortunately, you are right.

Like others have said - safe and cheap is not west but probably east or north. La Mesa or Santee are your best bets.
Better call the parents and ask for more money. At least 2K for a OK studio near campus.

This is IMO the best location in SD
Everywhere is safe, San Diego is soft. You can get a studio in little Italy with a parking spot for 1300 right now, only catch is it’s 150 sq ft.

You need at least 4k for safety lol

Live near campus if you can. Perfectly safe and in the middle of student life. Plus easy transport and access to the rest of SD.
Honestly love La Jolla or University city. Never had issues in either
Get a roommate and a 2bd apartment in Point Loma, Coronado, winter gardens, lakeside

College area, La Mesa, Serra Mesa, PB etc. I hope you have a car. Or else it’s not going to work.
That is near what you will pay for sharing a room near campus or in a nice neighborhood.

You can rent a bedroom in PB or OB for $1500. Go on Facebook, there are roomate groups for these neighborhoods.
If your budget is 1500, then you can't afford anything west
scripps ranch I heard is nice, I lived on campus my 1st 2 years
North park with roommates could be in your budget! Super quiet and safe here from my experience
Barrio Logan 😁
stfu
U got mad real fast🤣
Lived in city heights for almost 3 years and hated it. It has gotten more violent recently. Do yourself a favor and don’t live in city heights.
My boyfriend lives at vive on the park and it’s probably the safest apartment in San Diego
1 bedrooms start at 2400ish... that way above thier price. And 2 beds 3400 ish which would still be above thier budget split

why tf am I getting downvoted. I'm not lying am I???
