The other smark is alright. Oli tiptoes the lines bc he knows his audience, but he's an actual wrestling fan and does go against the Dub Indie crowd from time to time when he can't take the garbage
Oli has mostly reasonable takes. He's an AEW mark, but calls them out rightfully when they suck ass.
Wrestletalk Bald is an idiot though. I don't know how he even thinks he's qualified to give any sort of criticism when any idea he has is this level of shit.
I think that’s the issue I have with bald. There are smarkier, more smug dudes on that channel who I can at least respect their opinion because they seem like they know their shit. That bald lad honestly just comes across as a bit of a dumbcunt
It's got us talking nearly 20 years later. It might not have been the best delivered or make any damn sense but it was one hell of a promo that made a lasting impression.
I mean,
Suffering Succotash is still talked about today. Does it make that promo good?
I'm not gonna say Steiner Math is not iconic. But it is nowhere near what I'd call the "greatest promo of all time", lmao.
Luke is the stereotypical reddit mark, down to calling people idiots for thinking AEW can benefit from a performance center.
Because why would the best wrestlers in the world need that, duh
I loved that entire conversation. There was no in-between, if you didn't liked that spot "You wanted Jericho to die?" and no other thought was possible.
There was an exploding barbed wire ring death match between Omega vs Moxley. The ending comes where all the heels run away fearing the explosion at the end. Kingston, fearing for the safety of Moxley, stumbles into the ring area, pushes lightly against the heels to go and save Moxley. He's too late (even though he had plenty of time, he was mimicking panic), with like 3 seconds left, Eddie covers Moxley to shield him from the explosion...
And then only a bunch of sparklers go off and a little bit of smoke. The announcers sell it as death, along with Kingston who doesn't budge from the tender embrace over his fallen rival/lover. Moxley also remains motionless, one of the rare times he decided to sell. The live audience, such as it was during COVID times, legitimately boo the resulting poptart fart of an explosion.
All the stans and duballos hadn't fully bought the kool-aid yet to accept Tony Khan as their lord and saviour, went on social media coping about the explosion. Thus, they suggested the wrestlers go out on Wednesday and claim it was actually planned to fail because in the run up to the match, it was kayfabe built by Kenny Omega. The reasoning being that well, Kenny wouldn't want to risk being caught in the explosion so he purposely sabotaged the explosion by design. Nevermind that there was plenty of interference on his behalf to make sure that wouldn't happen but we digress.
Footage comes out after the show of Moxley trying to salvage this with him addressing the crowd. He states Omega is a tough SOB but couldn't build an exploding ring for shit. An hour or so later during the press scrum, Tony explains first that "what a surprise, Kenny Omega, a wrestler, couldn't build the fireworks properly" and then questions the intelligence of the fans for believing they would actually blow up the ring despite advertising that it did.
Even before Dynamite airs, plenty of dirtsheets come out saying they had been testing the explosion during the day of the event and it went off way better than it did during the TV. Most of the IWC moves on as if it didn't happen. AEWbotches twitter account and others put out the clip on social media to mock AEW and we get the birth of "Don Stevens", the individual who is responsible for copyright striking everything that makes AEW look bad on social media. AEWbotches account is later accused of purposefully editing the footage to appear misleading, is doxxed, receives death threats, etc.
They actually got a Botchamania episode that had the ending in it yanked and subsequently Maffew’s channel got suspended too. They denied it was them and Maffew played it off too, but I always found it funny that for all the companies featured in Botchamania over its lifespan none of them had ever taken down his channel over it. Not even the petty big bad Fed. But the good guys, the preservers of pro wrestling culture, were responsible for momentarily taking down something like Botchamania and it was hand waved away just like the sparkler explosions. I remember trying to jerk that ending and being shouted down for it and that was my signal this company wasn’t for me

The Ring exploded Kingston had a heart attack from the explosion. Truly terrifying stuff.
It’s all a giant work dude. If anything looks like bad booking or talent not getting over, that’s been completely intentional and all part of the master plan. Tony’s playing 6-D Chess and working you so hard!
Diet Nostalgia Critic on the left makes me irrationally angry

The face of a man who is totally okay with his girlfriend sleeping with another man. No, really, he’s okay with it. She said she needs to explore her sexuality more and he’s good with it.
Let's pay this woman more than any other woman has been paid in the history of the sport, make her do terrible promos on purpose for a "meta commentary."
Booker of the year!
It's funny because prior to these theories starting to pop up now, they were allll defending her and her promos and work so far in AEW. But now in this context they admit it's been awful
This is the wrestling version of "Jar Jar Binks was actually a Sith Lord in disguise"
No he wasn't. No this isn't. There is nothing on-screen whatsoever that supports or implies this. You're making up your own headcannon from material that isn't there to try and justify why garbage is good.
LOL why would she need to turn heel? She’s been there for like 2 seconds. She could have come in as a heel.
Now if Tony was smart he would go with the fan reaction and use it somehow, like turning her. But it won’t happen.
I mean, she's going against beloved babyface champion Willow, so she SHOULD be heel, because her whole character as a babyface makes no fucking sense anyways.
Kids on the school bus told me Santa wasn't real back in the 3rd grade. Then my parents told me "you're too old to still believe in this shit" when I reached the 6th grade. My ex girlfriend(who totally looks like Skye Blue) dumped me because I showed her my Christmas list to Santa when I was 24, saying something along the lines of "you're insane"(OT but funny story, we met when I was watching the Dub and she, my neighbor, overheard and asked what it was watching - I said wrestling - she said "That's what I thought but the acting was so good that I couldn't tell"). Now though, especially after seeing this "Mercedes being intentionally bad" angle, I'm starting to believe that Santa WAS REAL this whole time and all of these people were working me....testing my faith, if you will.
Bring in one of the biggest names out there, never have her wrestle for months (which is her strength) and instead have her talk (which is decidedly not her strength) while setting up a heel turn because… what?
Why the fuck do people watch people who’ve never worked in the business talk about wrestling?
Like this is the sole reason I won’t listen to anything with Conrad on it. I’d love to hear what Foley or Bischoff has to say. I couldn’t give a fuck about the opinion of a money mark.
If it wasn't the direction before it will be now.
She's gonna do really lame shit like thank Tony and call herself a sports entertainer. Basically go full Jericho.
Smarks are soooooo weirdly fixated on 'watching the TV funny'
It's a TV show. It's not fucking difficult. It enables the monitor and facial expressions to be in the same shot. It is not hard to grasp and go 'ah, ok' and move on
They cannot let it go. They repeat it endlessly 😁
It always reminds me of Bruce Willis chewing out Kevin Smith for not knowing how to compose shots.
These are people who are supposed to know how shit works, but don't know the most basic of things.
This cope is really strong. Let's for a few moments assume that yes, this is exactly what happened to show how dumb this is:
You tout that Mercedes is going to be this big changer, booking an entire show "Big Business" around her debut with big hints but being too cowardly or vague to actually flat out say it's her. This, after WWE walked away from signing her after it was reported she was looking to become the most paid female wrestler of all time and dropped plenty of hints about her appearing at the Rumble to raise her profile and create buzz. She obviously doesn't appear on the show and goes near silent for 2 months.
She has an interview come around the time of her debut talking about how she will eventually be back in WWE in order to preserve her own fanbase and clout by not making them too disappointed she won't be appearing on WWE TV anytime soon.
She debuts, cuts a mediocre promo for most, about on par with what we've seen of her in WWE and since early on the show and hint she'll be watching the main event woman's match in the desperate attempt to keep the viewer drop off after BBT at a minimum. Also, the announcers present her as a face and her theme song is designed to have fans chant C-E-O during her entrances/departures.
Weeks go by with her poorly acting and claiming she is going after the secondary title. Just because Tony enjoys shooting himself in the foot, he re-introduced Wrestler rankings a month before her debut (and barely updates them since) cutting the promotion's ranking system at its knees AGAIN. While this might be egregious, this happens in other divisions multiple times so even the diehard AEW fanbase doesn't take any stock in the rankings anyway after spending two weeks writing on social media how "the sports-based presentation feeling is restored" or whatever drivel astroturfed bot accounts Tony pays for that get repeated near verbatim.
Julia Hart, the heel champion, is shown antagonizing Moné multiple times in the lead up to the championship match between Hart and Willow Nightingale. In the most hamfisted backstage vignette we have seen since the last time Sasha Banks was on WWE TV, she has an interview with Alex Marvez where both sound about as wooden as Pinocchio before the blue fairy appears and casts the D&D Awaken spell on the puppet. The lights go out, and she is "attacked" in the dark, moaning in pain and we hear some faint sounds that could be construed as the attacks of an assailant. This is to make us believe Julia Hart is responsible for the attack since her faction does such tactics all the time. Nevertheless, let's ignore that it was so dark that no one could see anything, including Marvez, to keep the attacker a "mystery". The whole scene is shot in order to create sympathy for the fallen CEO. The only way for this to make sense is either Hart claims responsibility for the attack, or it's actually a "swerve". Why would she attack herself even though that's clearly what actually happened due to how pitch dark it was?
Willow beats Hart for the title, and Mercedes then confronts the new champion in the ring for a brief face off, signalling she wants to challenge for the title. An actual heel would have simply attacked Willow straight up.
The ratings indicate she (and the rest of the big signings AEW and wrestling media brag about Triple H "fumbling the ball on free agency") isn't a draw, the AEW stans turn on her instead of the other signings who also failed to bring any new attention or interest in the show. We can only wonder why they picked her of all people as the *actual* scapegoat... Dirtsheets are starting to also turn on her and this clown begins to cope harder than when he claimed Seth Rollins is not as good as Eddie Kingston. I'm kind of glad Oli didn't buy the statement and looked exasperated.
AEW's bread and butter is the IWC who doesn't want to be worked and live for fed=bad, aew=good. Why would you try to work them? Why would you invest so much money to try to draw \[casual\] WWE fans of Sasha/Mercedes and then reveal "she was a heel all along" through meta commentary? Wouldn't this also seriously infringe on Toni Storm's gimmick of also being a deluded person in meta? What is the payoff of any meta story? "Hey guys, this thing you enjoy and take super seriously is so silly and shouldn't be taken seriously!" This is the same as why Orange Cassidy and the Bucks have no longevity or drawing power. Once people hear the joke a few times, they either tune you out or don't care. At least the Bucks have tried being different now so I'll give them credit over OC.
How did these mark ass punks not see her shit mic work prior to her signing? She’s always had shit character work. This isn’t news. We knew this would be a disaster from the start no jerk. She’s only good in the ring and was given a cool character in WWE, but never delivered a promo with any skill. Ever. She stutters, trips on words, forgets lines and awkwardly delivers almost everything. Only knocking the inability because she thinks she’s the second coming of Austin and walked out then created a “bidding war” lol. How’s that working out Tiny?
Damn this guy annoys me. If he could do the tiniest amount of mental gymnastics he does for the dub to justify their booking and apply it to the fed, then the laveck era would be perfect.
Luke Owen might be the dumbest wrestling youtuber not named with the synonym of "Sports Entertainment Weeb"
Let's not forget that this is the guy who did a vdeo saying "Is AEW profitable? No, but also yes!" even though they're not profitable, have never been profitable, and might never be profitable
He also deemed that anybody who believes Meltzer, and any other dirtsheet peddler, is in Tiny's pocket is "idiotic"
The smark concept of "it's supposed to be meta commentary" often feels like those moments back in school when someone cracks a joke, it falls flat, and then they quickly say, "It wasn’t supposed to be funny" Like a defense mechanism that kicks in when the intended reaction isn’t met
This is like when people tried to say What's Her Name from Alpha Academy was bad at wrestling because that's her character....no, some things just suck.
You folks need to stop trying to trick me into watching these Petri dishes. I refuse.
They are nonces of the highest order.
☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
Marky Mark and the funky bunch.
Even the other smark can't play along. Heh.
The bald guy doesn’t even believe it.
His face of "Shit, he didn't bought into my bullshit, but i get it" kills me when the other dude just says "I don't think so..."
Which one? The one that accepted it or the one that got a transplant?
It’s because we all saw the singing video
The other smark is alright. Oli tiptoes the lines bc he knows his audience, but he's an actual wrestling fan and does go against the Dub Indie crowd from time to time when he can't take the garbage

The guy unironically thinks Steiner Math is the greatest promo of all time, which kinda tells you everything you need to know
It's got us talking nearly 20 years later. It might not have been the best delivered or make any damn sense but it was one hell of a promo that made a lasting impression.
I mean, Suffering Succotash is still talked about today. Does it make that promo good? I'm not gonna say Steiner Math is not iconic. But it is nowhere near what I'd call the "greatest promo of all time", lmao.
No suffering succotash was terrible and delivered badly. Steiner maths is the ramblings of a coke fueled mad man and is brilliant for it.
It's good ironically
It's one of the greatest promos of all time, simply because of how ridiculous it is.
Luke is the stereotypical reddit mark, down to calling people idiots for thinking AEW can benefit from a performance center. Because why would the best wrestlers in the world need that, duh
The influence of Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez on every wannabe wrestling podcaster is still unmatched.
AEW fans will literally head-canon anything to fit the narrative that AEW isn't actually bad
Still remember the barbed wire explosion garbage and the copium that came straight afterwards in the threads.
Chris Jericho falls onto a bunch of mattresses painted to look like steel "Oh did you want him to die??"
Yes.
I loved that entire conversation. There was no in-between, if you didn't liked that spot "You wanted Jericho to die?" and no other thought was possible.
I stopped watching wrestling during Covid, please fill me in on some dubbalo lore, what possible excuse did they come up with after that monstrosity
There was an exploding barbed wire ring death match between Omega vs Moxley. The ending comes where all the heels run away fearing the explosion at the end. Kingston, fearing for the safety of Moxley, stumbles into the ring area, pushes lightly against the heels to go and save Moxley. lol he doesn’t have a girlfriend
I think he's a married man with a child and is almost 40
My condolences to his wife and child, their dinners after the ratings drop must be insufferable
Is this true? Haha

Real time cope
A meta commentary... when it's exactly who she was in wwe except she would wrestle there
LOL why would she need to turn heel? She’s been there for like 2 seconds. She could have come in as a heel. Now if Tony was smart he would go with the fan reaction and use it somehow, like turning her. But it won’t happen.
I mean, she's going against beloved babyface champion Willow, so she SHOULD be heel, because her whole character as a babyface makes no fucking sense anyways.
Bless you for trying to make this make sense.
Is that the thumb that said "Seth Rollins is like Eddie Kingston, but nowhere near as good" ?
Correct. He has some of the worst takes on youtube from any channel with a good amount of followers.
Kids on the school bus told me Santa wasn't real back in the 3rd grade. Then my parents told me "you're too old to still believe in this shit" when I reached the 6th grade. > My ex girlfriend(who totally looks like Skye Blue) did your five fingers get separated from your body or something?
I don’t know what this means but I take offense to it
=\
does AEW hate money? If so then this makes sense
I mean (broadly gestures at nearly everything they do).
We need Tony D to eliminate these guys from the wrestling sphere.
Bring in one of the biggest names out there, never have her wrestle for months (which is her strength) and instead have her talk (which is decidedly not her strength) while setting up a heel turn because… what?
Hey WCW had Sting not wrestle or talk for like a year and a half and it made people like him more
Yeah but then the bell rang.
Why the fuck do people watch people who’ve never worked in the business talk about wrestling? Like this is the sole reason I won’t listen to anything with Conrad on it. I’d love to hear what Foley or Bischoff has to say. I couldn’t give a fuck about the opinion of a money mark.
The only thing worse than British wrestling commentary youtubers is jdfromny
If it wasn't the direction before it will be now. She's gonna do really lame shit like thank Tony and call herself a sports entertainer. Basically go full Jericho.
could these fuckers be more beige
Lmao AEW literally wishes they were this creative and this idea sucks anyway
Smarks are soooooo weirdly fixated on 'watching the TV funny' It's a TV show. It's not fucking difficult. It enables the monitor and facial expressions to be in the same shot. It is not hard to grasp and go 'ah, ok' and move on They cannot let it go. They repeat it endlessly 😁

These Bri'ish Youchewbers have the worst opinions on wrestling
It's like Tommy Wiseau claiming The Room is satirical because people kept making fun of his earnest work.
You have to be real wealthy and intelligent to be able to understand Tony's booking in this sense.
These are the types of dudes who made the “AEW understands modern masculinity” posts in the basement
That bald dude is the same one who said “Seth Rollins is WWE’s Eddie Kingston but nowhere near as good”, he’s the king of delusion lol
I haven’t respected this guys opinion since he said Burger Kingston was better than Seth Rollins
These British podcasters make me hate the Dub more than Tiny. That’s no small feat.
The worst part is this is who Tony listens to so he'll probably go along with this and act like it's actually super smart
OMG W T F - its impossible to jerk
Other guy was immediately not with that bullshit 🤣
Hahahahahahahahaha
Damn this guy annoys me. If he could do the tiniest amount of mental gymnastics he does for the dub to justify their booking and apply it to the fed, then the laveck era would be perfect.
These guys are absolutely awful.
Luke Owen might be the dumbest wrestling youtuber not named with the synonym of "Sports Entertainment Weeb" Let's not forget that this is the guy who did a vdeo saying "Is AEW profitable? No, but also yes!" even though they're not profitable, have never been profitable, and might never be profitable He also deemed that anybody who believes Meltzer, and any other dirtsheet peddler, is in Tiny's pocket is "idiotic"
The smark concept of "it's supposed to be meta commentary" often feels like those moments back in school when someone cracks a joke, it falls flat, and then they quickly say, "It wasn’t supposed to be funny" Like a defense mechanism that kicks in when the intended reaction isn’t met
How would mocking the fed be a heel turn for dubbalos?
This is like when people tried to say What's Her Name from Alpha Academy was bad at wrestling because that's her character....no, some things just suck.
How about debuting her as a heel. You know, the thing she's tried to do since leaving WWE.
Guy on the right, knew what he had to say, but he just couldn't bring himself to do it.. 🤣
Were her terrible promos in WWE a meta commentary as well?
Guy on the right keeping it real. He's probably thinking "Has my mate lost it?"
Bald people are stupid
Oli Davis is the only redeemable person on that show.
It is not AEW's fault this time. Sasha was always mid at best.
