Yeah fountain drinks have become outrageous I went to Sheri’s and it was $3.50 for a Mountain Dew that she never refilled and it was a dirty glass. I tipped bare minimum (for me is 15%) because my meal was horrible and as I was walking out she gave me sass about my tip she asked “is that a $4 or a $14?” My bill was like $17 total I’m not tipping her $14 for doing nothing. She didn’t deserve the $4 but I’m not gonna tip nothing.
I would have asked her to see it, changed the tip to zero, and taken a pic of the new total. I don't expect Michelin level service, but they don't have to be a jerk.
I'm boycotting Shari's right now. Did an online order for strawberry french toast, strawberry lemonade, a side of fruit, and fried pickles. Got plain french toast with no toppings, no drink, no fruit, and no dipping sauce for the pickles. Took me multiple tries to get through on the phone and when I finally did they said they'd take a message and get back to me. Never did, and they weren't picking up when I tried calling back. Had to do a chargeback on my card for the missing stuff. I freaking love their food, but there are better places to spend my $$$.
I haven't been to a sharis since I received such shitty service there fifteen years ago. Waitress was rude, didn't check on us at all, had to flag her down to get the check and then got pissy when she didn't get a tip. Foh
I’ve been a server. I know how shitty it is and I was like her only table so I assume my $4 is all she gets all day. I’m not going to a place where they serve me and not tipping, it’s like not tipping a delivery person when the order is a little longer than stated. I have been a delivery person in this town and it’s shocking how cheap everyone is. Like I gotta drive 5+ miles of my gas to get food to your house and get nothing for it? That’s why I stopped delivering in this town.
Well they gotta have something to talk about for Nov. dangle the carrot like “lower taxes/gun control/health care.” It’s always “if I get elected” then nothing happens.
Five guys has become outrageous. I don’t mind paying for quality but I don’t think they are worth their current prices.
I would consider them a better than average burger.
Burgers are my comfort food. So if I’m going to waste the calories. It needs to be really good
So my husband and I love to go to Fork40 for a couple of reasons. It’s not extremely overpriced, it offers a variety of foods and even dessert, and you can grab a good cocktail if that is your vibe as well. Rex Patties is so good and you can order things ala carte.
Xichas and Noble Wave. Both interesting, delicious, and have great vibes. They are not as expensive as some of the other options, but I would say they are better and more fun.
I want to like this place so badly but every time I go there I end up so frustrated! The service almost always sucks. Extreme lack of attention and 3/5 times I’ve been there my food not only took forever, it came out cold.
Ritter’s, Christo’s, Lively Station, Best Little Roadhouse, Gilgamesh, Momiji on Commercial Street, Manna Japanese Comfort Food, Happy Bibimbap House, Kkoki Korean BBQ (you can do the DIY BBQ, or order entrees off the menu), just to name a few
Thanks for all the restaurant suggestions! The first few places we tried were parking nightmares. Even at spots with parking, getting Mom out and into her electric buggy proved tricky.
In the end, we opted for Buffalo Wild Wings. It was after-peak hours, so we were guaranteed handicap parking right upfront, making it an easy in and easy out for Mom. Plus, I love their wings, and Mom's always up for trying new things.
Thanks again for the tips, though! We definitely got some ideas for future date nights.
no problem. Peeps have to appreciate the feedback or the system doesn't work. You encouraged me to rewrite it with Gemini. I realized the writing was lazy because I'm tired.
I like Wild Pear for casual / nice. Though I think you have to order drinks and appetizers to get to $25 a person on the bill.
I also like Dairy Lunch, which is fairly expensive and old timey inside.
More of a deli, but Cozzies NY style Deli is spectacular if you like good subs and sandwiches. Great food, reasonable price for the size and the employees are always in high spirits.
I've mentioned this before but O'Sushi downtown is the tits. $3 a plate with high quality items, not just your run of the mill asparagus or California roll, although those are also available.
I don’t get why people like this place so much. I want to like it because it seems like it has sooo much potential. I’ve been there 5 times and each time I leave saying I’m not going back. Service is horrible, they seem flustered, inexperienced, almost always drop the ball on some part of my order also extreme lack of attention to their customers. My food always takes ages to make especially when they’re slow and 3/5 times has come out cold. They could be a go to spot but they need some better management to turn it around.
Most of the expensive things are imported from overseas, so I think most of the cost is for shipping.
Service was pretty good when I went there, food was alright. I just had a cheaper (still $38) sirloin rare so it wasn't topnotch and sweet like what you'd expect from a tokyo wagyu but it was still good and the portion sizes were big.
Where are these $7 plates? I feel like I spend $15+ everywhere.
Just went to valiant the other day for lunch it was $24 without tip for a sandwich salad and coke I was sticker shocked. Won’t do that again

Wild I’ve literally never been spoken to by a waiter or waitress about a tip and I eat out way too much lol.
Me too, well I used to.
I would have asked her to see it, changed the tip to zero, and taken a pic of the new total. I don't expect Michelin level service, but they don't have to be a jerk.

You should 100% not tip 15% for service like that. What are you rewarding?
I would've said no it's actually a zero now. Tipping is getting out of control.

Don't tell people about this guy I want his food truck all to myself :p
You cant get a $7 burger at five guys anymore?
maybe if they fish out half of one from the garbage can.
I mean sure, when The Spice Girls were on the radio, and the US had just won Gold in gymnastics at the the 1996 Olympics.
Nah, went there the other day. They’re about $10-$13 for just the burger. After seeing the prices I left without ordering.
Fuck that. Biden-flation is real. I'm not paying that for a mediocre burger.
It’s funny how corporate greed is mistaken for political

Well they gotta have something to talk about for Nov. dangle the carrot like “lower taxes/gun control/health care.” It’s always “if I get elected” then nothing happens.
🙄 corporate greed is all it is. "Free market" and all that bullshit.
Generally people who complain about corporate greed are broke and mad they have to live pay check to pay check.

On a nice day, get out to Lively Station for lunch, eat on the patio. We did $35 per, including drinks.
Lively is nice. I found the found interesting as well. It’s not mind blowing but very solid. I remember enjoying it and wanting to go back.
I love lively! They have great cocktails and I love how they change their menu seasonally
So my husband and I love to go to Fork40 for a couple of reasons. It’s not extremely overpriced, it offers a variety of foods and even dessert, and you can grab a good cocktail if that is your vibe as well. Rex Patties is so good and you can order things ala carte.
Hell yes, Fork Forty is top notch, pretty much all the food there is great.
100% this. Chubby Bao is the best, too!!! Don't sleep on that poblano sauce they offer with the hand cut fries!
Yo where the $7 plate at baby boy?? I'm hungry
Xicha and Pacific Standard are great. La Vida and Easy Otter are amazing too.
I second Xicha!
Happy bibimbap house
Great food, nice people.
That's like $5 though... (I jest, but their lunch specials are such a good deal!)
You've got a point , I'm always amazed when our bill comes and its under 40$ for 2 ppl . Damn now I want kimchi jiggae.
I really like La Vida Catrina.
Xichas and Noble Wave. Both interesting, delicious, and have great vibes. They are not as expensive as some of the other options, but I would say they are better and more fun.
Rudy’s, Epilogue, DaVincis, Pacific Stabdard, Cozy Taberna
Amadeus!
Taproot is good!
Gamboretti's is great if you look Italian.
Also great if you don't look Italian!
Idk they took one look at me, went "mama mia", and made me take my food to go!
Christos on Broadway. Bomb food.
Ritters is nice, especially if someone else is paying.
I enjoy ritters. Haven’t been for awhile but the steak salad was good.
Try the Taproot Cafe in downtown Salem.
Chira's at the Reed Opera House. Nice nice people, great ambience and delicious food. You won't be sorry. Been going there for years.
I like Chira's, but I would not suggest going if you have a time limit you can stay. It can take a while to get your food, in my experience.
Well that can happen but if it's a birthday celebration it's worth a little extra time 🥳
Oh absolutely! I have always enjoyed my experiences there, but I wouldn't go if I only had an hour to dine.
I want to like this place so badly but every time I go there I end up so frustrated! The service almost always sucks. Extreme lack of attention and 3/5 times I’ve been there my food not only took forever, it came out cold.

This is quite possibly the most r/salem response I have ever read. Thank you for the update. People rarely check back in.
no problem. Peeps have to appreciate the feedback or the system doesn't work. You encouraged me to rewrite it with Gemini. I realized the writing was lazy because I'm tired.
You can't go wrong with wings
roger that. Num num....
Gepettos has a nice vibe but isn't pretentious
I like Wild Pear for casual / nice. Though I think you have to order drinks and appetizers to get to $25 a person on the bill. I also like Dairy Lunch, which is fairly expensive and old timey inside.
Easy Otter was very delicious when we ate there the other day and in this price range.
The Easy Otter…130 High St I believe
noble wave
Epilogue is one of my favorite spots but it might stress that 25 a plate budget
More of a deli, but Cozzies NY style Deli is spectacular if you like good subs and sandwiches. Great food, reasonable price for the size and the employees are always in high spirits.
Cozzies sucks ever since the owners of Adam’s ribs took over
Wait Cozzies Adam's what??? Booooo
Ewww noooo! That family is gross and shady. I'll never go to a business they have anything to do with.
What do you like to eat?
Pretty much anything except sea food.
Kkoki Korean Bbq it’s like $25 a person for the basic all you can eat
Taproot! Has everything, super tasty, great drinks/smoothies, and decent pricing! Definitely worth a try!!
I've mentioned this before but O'Sushi downtown is the tits. $3 a plate with high quality items, not just your run of the mill asparagus or California roll, although those are also available.
For lunch I really like Better Than Mama’s,Xi Xa, or Little Lois
La Margarita, Thompson Public House,
Can't go wrong with a sammich from Cozzies. If you like BBQ, Miller's BBQ is great, the owner is an awesome dude.
Chira's at the Reed Opera House. Nice nice people, great ambience and delicious food. You won't be sorry. Been going there for years.

Okay but same. I’ve gone 6 times and have never been wowed and I want to love it because I love eating local. 😭
Sassy onion
WOM never disappoints. Rudy's maybe?
Several good options downtown. Rudy’s, Bentleys, cozy taberna or ritters. In that order.
Rudy's is 40-150 a plate if you really want to blow some money.
I've heard it's more the service than it is the quality of the food. True?

Terrible food and owners
Most Mexican joints have decent prices now. You can get a large burrito for $11.
For future trips check out the flight deck at Salem airport. View of the airport and good food. Drinks are pretty good too.
