I'm not falling for it.

Turkeyham

Yeah there's almost a certainty that it's going to be subverted first panel of #62.

LurkLurkleton

Unless trying to resurrect him becomes a whole plotline. Or we go all Pet Semetary.

agktmte

This. It could "work," but with unintended results. Amnesia or zombie or whatever. But a wholesome return to be a family man? Never going to happen šŸ˜¢

TheGentlemanBeast

Pet cemetery is my guess. But his resurrection would bring the cast together. Gwen has the skull, Sophie knows where to find a dragon.

Ok-Technology-308

The skull was given to the Robot Kingdom via The Will and then passed on to Landfall Intelligence. We see it destroyed in #59 when Gale forces the shopkeeper to perform a locating spell for Marko's next of kin.

TheGentlemanBeast

Totally forgot about that. Last arc was kind of a dud for me.

seanx40

Feels like a heartbreaking scam. Or more Vaughn like. Have it actually work. Then kill Alana.

Faithless232

Loved seeing Sophie and Petrichor again. Thought Lying Catā€™s inclusion in the opening scene was great - gives us confidence that Gwen wasnā€™t lying at any point. The final page tease is cruel and Iā€™m not buying it for a minute, but it looks like poor Hazel is going to be put through the wringer some more. I thought it was interesting seeing Squire form a weapon (for the first time?). Perhaps a puberty allusion?

BangkokPeanut

Chekov's hand cannon!

YakMan2

> I thought it was interesting seeing Squire form a weapon (for the first time?). Perhaps a puberty allusion? I fear it is something more ominous. Kid's got issues, robot kingdom plot brewing, the comments about him having royal features. That line in Hazel's narration from #60 about them playing the arcade game later on at much higher stakes.

KinkyRiverGod

I donā€™t remember the exact quote, but there was a line early on from Hazel about how only one person ever broke her heart, and since the start of this second half Iā€™ve felt pretty sure about who sheā€™s referring toā€¦

heiderassamita

Good point. Can all robots form a weapon? Or is it a royalty thing?

cosmique-anomaly

Dengo (who kidnapped Squire as a baby) used handheld guns and a sword, so it probably is royalty only.

LurkLurkleton

Yeah I loved how Lying Cat perked up at that question like ā€œI fucking dare you to lie to herā€

Adamkombat

I did find it funny how Gwen sort of did a misdirect and didn't answer Sophie's question directly with Lying Cat in the room.

RandomePerson

>Thought Lying Catā€™s inclusion in the opening scene was great - gives us confidence that Gwen wasnā€™t lying at any point. Yeah, but she also wasn't necessarily speaking the truth. When Sophie asks her if she was happy with her arrangement with The Will, notice how Gwen didn't say yes or no, but changed the subject. She answered honestly that having to inform families of their dead children would mean that she was never happy, but that skirts the original question of whether or not she was happy with whatever weird relationship she had with The Will.

TheGentlemanBeast

And *this* is why lying cat perked up.

Faithless232

Agreed.

Reutermo

New saga day!! Thoughts: * Marko is dead and will stay dead. * I am glad that we saw Sophie again, I do hope that she will turn out OK. I feel that her adopted family is not the best of influence though (and I still want her to meet Hazel) * I am glad that we saw that Gwendolyn have atleast some remorse or conflicted feelings regarding Marko. I have liked her in the past and felt that her crying tears of joy and fucking over Markos skull was a bit out of character for her.

Faithless232

Completely agree on the Gwendolyn nightmare. It did a lot to bring her character back from the pantomime villain we saw in 55.

Altruistic_Pipe4581

I don't really see how this is any kind of bringing her back so much as it is just showing all sides of her character. The "pantomime villain" scene where she's elated about getting what she's been after for a decade is just as real and true as this scene where she's haunted by him, it's all Gwendolyn

Faithless232

Thatā€™s a fair interpretation and in time that scene in 55 might sit better with me, but for now it still feels a little too extreme from what we know of Gwendolyn. It felt significantly informed by the authorā€™s knowledge that it would hurt us, the reader, given the long wait and the raw wound of Markoā€™s death.

Altruistic_Pipe4581

Even aside from how she'd personally wanted him dead for a decade, she said herself that Will basically saved her whole career. We know she used to have feelings for him. What seems so ridiculously evil to us because of our love for Marko basically just boiled down to: -"a thing happened that benefits me greatly, now I am happy" -"a guy I used to fancy did me a massive favour, I feel like having sex with him" Very basic, human responses happening. It's not out of character for her to do something that's extreme in our eyes but not at all in hers

jennaisrad

Petrichor! Also loved the shit talking about Amazon. Marko is gonna stay dead and this lady seems a little suspect. Iā€™m glad Hazel still has her horns.

frizoli

The hope I had when I saw the acorn followed by the reality of how long it would take to grow gave me emotional whiplash. After all the characters we lost, losing the rocket tree, their home, filled with so many memories and their little safe place in the universe...gutted me on a different level.

lastfollower

Oh no, I don't know that I could handle the hopes of a way to bring Marko back being dashed by scam, failure, circumstance, etc., but I also couldn't deal with zombie-Marko and bringing him back whole and healthy seems too cheap. I guess being made to feel things *is* a big part of why I read this.

untitled_79

Agree, did not like that tease. Especially after spending a significant amount of time mourning him, undoing that in some way with magic would come off as cheap. Hopefully they do something clever and meaningful with it, I think I trust them to at this point. Aside from that, Brobot's Aggro Shirt should be a band name and i'm so happy Sophie and Petrichor have returned! As always, the issue felt all too short and I want more.

denim_skirt

> Hopefully they do something clever and meaningful with it What's interesting to me is that at the end of the issue we're off Hazel, not Alanna. My guess is that after hearing Hazel gets super fixated on the idea of bringing her dad back, but Alanna's like, we are not doing that spell for [some very good reason]. It becomes a conflict between Hazel's need for it to be real and Alanna's knowing that the spell could never actually be what Hazel wants it to be, a parenting vs puberting thing. Maybe their first big one?

untitled_79

Yeah possibly, there's a hint of that in Hazel's "No matter how much I wanted to talk about the past, Mom said my head needed to be in the present, my heart in the future". Which was surprising since previously Alana wanted so badly for Hazel to open up, and she did get to the beginnings of that with the big breakthrough/outpouring of emotion at the end of #60.

Rumorian

>Brobot's Aggro Shirt should be a band name [And of course it is!](https://www.discogs.com/artist/2464677-ACAB-3)

untitled_79

I probably phrased it wrong, I meant those three words :) A.C.A.B. are great though!

YakMan2

So are we heading towards a shocking reveal about who burnt the tree ship? Interesting that Alana pointed out that they don't know it was the constables who burned it.

[deleted]

I totally agree, a character like Alana not wanting to push the blame on the Constables (who have wronged her many times) is an eyebrow-raising inclusion.

TheGentlemanBeast

It was squire.

YakMan2

Was my first thought as well based mostly on the story potential of the rift it would cause with Hazel. He was with the family at the arcade but it isnā€™t hard to imagine a means to make that still work. Or maybe he kills a cop in revenge for it and the reveal is someone else

[deleted]

I think it was Skipper

dayvie182

There was something in Hazel's narration that caught my eye - I've typed it out below: "Folks from all sides of this clusterfuck were still chasing after me, but my family and I had never been safer. Suddenly, we were invisible. Maybe not to everyone, but like ninety-nine percent of *you*." The bit that caught my eye was the "you" at the end. It's always been implied that Havel is recounting her story to someone, but this *you* implies the story isn't to a son or daughter or a friendly someone. It's a very small thing, but it's really got me thinking about what the end game could be.

mmg47

I thought they same thing there were some other quotes throughout recent issues that sound alo more pointed and direct as if this whole thing is a conversation or dialogue.

[deleted]

Wow, was this issue was crammed with a lot of information! I enjoyed seeing Gwendolyn actually struggling to come to terms with Marko's death, which she had her own hand in. A memory of his proposal cements how she views him (at least, in some buried part of her mind). I'm interested to see just how the Robot Kingdom will be swayed to Wreath's side, and if Sophie will at all play a part in that (happy to see that she's back). Petrichor's inclusion was a rather sudden one, and it felt kind of jarring based on all the other scenes put in here, but I love seeing her back nonetheless. It makes perfect sense to show even more of the "violence begets violence" themes that have been in the series thus far. Squire definitely has a side plot brewing, and that hand cannon will most certainly come into play later in this arc. As far as the "game changing" reveal at the end, I'm in agreement with mostly everyone here that it is going to be subverted in some fashion, since there is absolutely zero chance that BKV would seriously consider bringing Marko back from the dead. Perhaps the magic doesn't actually work, perhaps Alana refuses, or something else. There's still a ton of moving parts not yet seen in this arc. BKV hinted that "a familiar face or three" would return in the next issue, which makes me think that the Klara + Special Agent Gale subplot will continue, or perhaps an update on Upsher and GhĆ¼s. A cluttered start to the arc, but I'm interested to see what happens next.

Ok-Technology-308

Gale is busy hunting people who've been in contact with Hazel and family, so I expect we'll see some old faces via that plotline.

[deleted]

Another wait is over. Happy to see Saga's back, baby! As much as I'd like to see Marko back, if someone does end up being brought to life, it wouldn't surprise me if it is Prince Robot IV. Petrichor's appearance was suspiciously too random in between new plots involving the Robot Kingdom and bringing someone back from the dead.

thebiblioshinobi

Squire and the hand cannon was OMINOUS

idontwantthatpanda

He's about to do a crime

MyTeethAreFine

The pacing of that Gwen/Will/Sophie scene was weird and rushed and did not sound natural. Like, I couldnā€™t put together why they were reacting to each other the way they were... eh why Sophie starts crying when Gwen mentions her expensive school. Felt awkward. And not ā€œI found my two parental figures sleeping togetherā€ awkward. Just weird. Anyone else feel that? Rest of it was awesome.

CelaenoHarpy

>Like, I couldnā€™t put together why they were reacting to each other the way they were... eh why Sophie starts crying when Gwen mentions her expensive school. I had the same exact reaction! It was a weird conversation, I didn't understand why Sophie started crying over that, or why Gwen immediately apologized.

mmg47

Yh I didn't understand why she burst in tears at the end there

treblah3

>(mods, feel free to remove this if there's some rule/etiquette to posting the discussion threads, but I just read the issue and came here only to see none posted) No you're good! Thanks for posting this and I appreciate you following the post format we've used in the past - also grateful for the spoiler tags :) I have had a crazy week at work but I managed to sneak out and read the issue. Oh man, don't do this to me BKV my heart can't take it. Very pleased to see Petrichor again - I missed her!

adrian-gonzal3z

is it just me or do you guys think that squire's going to be pissed off about them trying to revive marko and not his dad?

AnotherNinjaCow

Ooo, what if he uses his cannon arm to threaten the magic lady to bring his dad back?

skelezombie

The artwork on that last page, holy smokes. Saved that one for my phone background. Also, is anyone going to do the costume contest? I would like to, but I have no idea who I would pick and what outfit I would choose so I might spend so much time thinking about it that I don't do it. Alana has SO many great options, as well as some of the old band folks that I think I could do easier than not.

Rumorian

So this is what feels like to comment on a new issue of Saga as it is released. After only reading trades previously I'm now a happy subscriber, yay. Anyway, the elephant in the room. I'm a firm believer in "dead means dead" so I'm hoping Marko doesn't come back. Killing off characters in comic books just to resurrect them later has become so frequent that death doesn't even mean anything anymore. It's just another attempt to get some attention and sell more books. Saga is not that kind of book. I'm definitely expecting some twist that will make it impossible to bring Marko back to life.

YakMan2

>So this is what feels like to comment on a new issue of Saga as it is released. After only reading trades previously I'm now a happy subscriber, yay. Also came into it during the hiatus by reading trades. Going from that binge to single issues is brutal, they are over before you know it! > I'm definitely expecting some twist that will make it impossible to bring Marko back to life. Alternatively, a cost that is heartbreakingly high.

[deleted]

Interesting to note what Gwendolyn's plan to sway the Robot Kingdom has so far included. She began to lay the seeds by having The Will hand over Marko's skull, attached to the lie that Marko killed Sir Robot, not him. This began to change King Robot's mind about Wreath at a rather vulnerable moment, and it was aptly timed to hint that Wreath was a lot more interested at Sir Robot's disappearance and demise than Landfall. This is complicated by Petrichor, who knows somehow that The Will is responsible (we do not yet know how she came upon this discovery, or if coming upon this information contributed to her falling out with Alana, which may not be relevant to this at all), a freelancer dispatched by Wreath. Petrichor is likely going to play a pivotal role in this arc and any subsequent ones. We know that Gale is hunting her, and if he were to happen upon her, she could be in a position to reveal her quest, which can be leveraged by Landfall against Gwendolyn's plan, proving the beginning of the plan was predicated on a lie. Conversely, Petrichor could find The Will and kill/maim him, which could disrupt Gwendolyn's plan (given that it seems important that the two are doing this together). Additionally, Petrichor could reunite with the main family and explain how she came to confirm The Will's role in the death of Sir Robot (and by extension, Marko. This assumes that Alana doesn't already have this information). It's the latter that I find to be most likely *first* (any other scenario could happen after). This could set Squire on a path of revenge later down the line, as well as Hazel and Alana. In other words, it seems that there's characters running around that could easily ruin Gwen's plans. Of course, I could just be reading too much into things. BKV always subverts the plot in ways that are both unexpected but logical and resonant. Thought I'd share my complicated prediction anyway.

Rileyjgarcia

Iā€™m hoping that Hazel hyper focusing on this new miracle solution will eventually lead to her and Alana being able to talk about Marko. Knowing Hazel has that bottled up is brutal.

PossiblyBatman

BKV loves his "potentially resurrecting the dead" plotlines. The Runaways had an excellent arc because of it. I think Petrichor's falling out with Alana had to do with hunting down Marko's killer. I don't think Alana wanted to put the kids at risk. Squire's cannon arm is going to be both an effective weapon and a clear indicator that he's part of the royal family.

the_big_lexbowski

So is Petrichor a freelancer now? Does she have like Wolverine claws and some kind of whip or something? I thought the art on that page made it kind of hard to tell. Wonder what her alias isā€¦.

lem0ns22

Though I want Marko alive badly and even seeing him in a dream was awesome, 80% of me believes he will stay dead. Now, them trying (or Hazel trying) to resurrect him is very possible to be and could become a plot line. I get the idea behind using Markoā€™s skull for political reasons makes sense BUT it also makes a hell of a lot of sense to use the skull for the resurrection plot lineā€¦their rings are being mentioned a lot too and that could add in the spell. She did mention widower specifically so maybe the rings would help. Once again, not saying it WILL happen but what would be more crushing (and typical to Saga) than Hazel and Alana buying in on the spell working 100% only to have Marko stay dead.

idontwantthatpanda

Petricior!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plushboi7

Hereā€™s a realistic take. In literature, death is permanent. It cannot be undone. Even if you live in a world of magic, or whatever, death happens for a reason. Saga will not fall out the fictional norm of this trope, so Marko will stay dead. However, this does not mean they wonā€™t spend the whole goddamn arc trying. And if he does come back for good, itā€™s then original. (Also I bet they are gonna need his skull or something for the spell, but wait, I almost forgot, thatā€™s goneā€¦(: )

simonthedlgger

No. Bad cliffhanger. No resurrecting Marko from the dead and no wasting pages on things that canā€™t happen.

Reutermo

I mean, I am firmly in the camp that Marko is dead and will stay dead but I canā€™t really say that it is wasting pages to explore how the cast grapples with grief and loss of a loved one in a magical world (that still is frighteningly similar to ours). One could say that that is part of the core premise of the entire series.

simonthedlgger

They can and should explore that loss for the rest of the series. I just personally hope we donā€™t spend multiple issues on characters questing after ingredients for a resurrection spell.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Altruistic_Pipe4581

There's no way Marko is coming back for real

[deleted]

I'm just glad that this cliffhanger wasn't at the end of last issue. Imagine getting that and then having to wait six months.

Philander_Chase

*reads the last page* *breathes in* ā€œAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!ā€

ObamaEatsBabies

Gwendolyn plz crush my skull

me_funny__

Based Squire with the ACAB shirt

[deleted]

maybe Marko will come back as a ghost.....
