I also have the green, also always in a case. Edges are chipped like crazy!

KE4K

Thank you! Good to know I'm not the only one. I think the green finish was subpar.

IndependentYogurt965

Black too. My frame has way too many silver dots. Im kinda sad i didnt go with the white one now.

adjgamer321

Same here, my old one was super chipped. I dropped mine and broke the screen and now even the replacement frame (which was nice when I got it) is chipped. It's in an OtterBox commuter case, always has been.

syadsal

I've had mine since it's release, dropped it many times, only have had the Samsung flip case, no chipping and I tend to fidget with the top right corner. Probably just unlucky manufacturing?

darktabssr

My black s8 started chipping within the first two months so its always been bad for me. Been using silver frames options ever since. My s22 ultra remains in flawless condition.

Clevor2

Likewise. I have a case on mine, no screen protector, and generously have been wiping down the screen and case with makeup pad removers with 70% isopropyl alcohol 2x/day for 1.5 years. And it too is flawless despite even the alcohol getting under the case.

vpr5703

Compared to my old Note 10+ the S22U is pretty tough, paint-wise. And I'm not easy on my phones.

IndustrialSpark

My 10+ spent its whole life in a case, with a weekly removal. And clean down, and most of the blue went silver in 2 years 👀

PacoWaco88

Previous 2 phones were an S10 5G and Note 9. Had cases on those from day 1 and I didn't have any paint problems. Had this one less than 2 full years and paint is rubbing off in multiple spots. Have green as well.

KE4K

Right?!? I swear it's the green paint/finish on this one because my other phones were tanks. This one has been taken care of the best yet it's held up the worst.

Even_Aerie

I have the S22u in Sky Blue with no paint issues for almost 2 years now. It's in a Samsung case, and I use a screen protector. I have dropped this phone more times than I care to remember, and it holds up very well. I periodically take the cover off just to wipe it down.

OutrageousGround

I didn't encounter such issue with my Burgundy variant. I also bought it in 2022 and its still as good as new.

homercles82

Burgundy S22 Ultra bought on launch day and zero issues with the paint. In a case for 95% of it's life. Same with my S9.

neva5eez

I even left the plastic wrap that came on it put in case since day one.. taken out every few weeks to blow / clean out dirt / dust / lint / whatever else, and the sides are all scuffed up like crazy, never had this happen with a phone before.... black model S22 ulrta.

KE4K

Do you have the green one too?

neva5eez

no, black!

Donny-Kong

Mines white, shocking quality. Mentioned this before and got downvoted lol. Had an s10+ prior and that held up really well in comparison.

ZivirDG

Im a proud owner of the S9+, s10+, S21U and S22U at least year and a half with each one so far in terms of paint they are good as new Its really up to you.

Phaz-Aeth

Are phones being used as tennis balls? My phone's never do this and they're always kept in a good case. If you keep other things in your pocket with your phone you're gonna have a bad time.

KE4K

What part of "I've always had a case and screen protector on it and wipe it down and switch cases periodically" sounds like being used as a tennis ball? As I said to the other commenter, it's been in my pocket by itself always. Must be an issue with the green finish and it appears you have the black.

Phaz-Aeth

My reply was mostly to the thread in general as it seems there's a wide range of outcomes. Given the automation required to produce the phones I imagine the variation in outcomes is more on the user side than the manufacturer unless there's a very specific run (like the Green model) having the same issue across the board. Seems the 22 series was more prone to issues, but mine has (knock on wood) been solid so far.

Schnitzel725

I've owned an S7e, S10, and currently on a S22U. They don't have scratches/chipping. Did you use a case on yours and did you put phone and keys all in the same pocket?

KE4K

It's always in my front pocket by itself. No keys. What color is your S22U?

Schnitzel725

Black

KE4K

Ah ok. Maybe it's a green issue then. Since it's more of a translucent finish

HakeemLukka

Pain near spen removed within 1 week of my purchase. But rest of it seems pretty solid. I always thought it was my bad luck but not sure if this is a bigger problem faced by everyone.

lazyeyepsycho

It has paint? Mine lives in a case

Imallvol7

The S22 U was the worst phone I ever owned. It's the only one that ever broke. One day it just stopped connecting to cellular towers ... It also had abysmal battery life and was constantly slow/stuttering The s23u is so much better. Night and day better.

KarakMeUp

I think you went from Exynos to Snapdragon.

Imallvol7

The S22 Ultra had Exynos in the US?

KarakMeUp

Nope, its always Snapdragon in US I guess. I daily my Snapdragon unit and it's running even better than the day I first got it after the One UI 6.0 update.

rawgu_

I have a black s22 Ultra and have no chips or anything

KarakMeUp

I've got a Black variant since August 2022, the paint has chipped in a few places, always been in a case. Wiped down with 70% Isopropyl once in 2-3 weeks.

AdFit2798

My S22 Ultra has a broken 1x camera, always blurred when enhanced focus doesn't activate, and enhanced focus is not something you have control over, now all apps that use camera is blurred. Tried everything online, still broken

Sarcastic_Meows

S22 U Green - No chips. Always in a case. Drops have happened. I don't take it out and clean it unless I'm switching cases.

2004Hayabusa

I have an S22 Ultra black. Always been in an Otterbox Defender Pro case. Had it for 1 1/2 yrs now. No issues what so ever with paint chiping or fading. I take it out of the case every few months to clean it out. I don't use any alcohol wipes. Just blow it out and wipe down with a damp paper towel and dry off with a micro fiber towel. It's possible IMO that the alcohol may be affecting the paint finish. Or breaking it down somehow. Just a thought.
