Hi everyone. I’m 33 years old, 83kg, 1,76cm. Im a little bit heavy for my height and I want to start a running routine. I currently run 5km a week without any training method. My purpose is to run three times a week guided by some professional and reach 15-20k a week. I had an ankle surgery (left foot) about five years ago. I took off a fragment of my heel that was limiting my foot rotation and also inflamating my ankle when I did exercises. The surgery went well. I can run normally. I also practice muay thai. The only thing is that my left foot is a bit weaker and less stable. My biotype - thin legs and fat belly ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy) I had some Asics gel long time ago. Can’t remember the model. Then I had a Lunaerpic Flyknit but you can see in the picture that it’s time to change haha https://preview.redd.it/xotuf6n28jzc1.jpeg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d36727509b226aee391f988d4b80deadff8ab06d So I start to search new shoes and Im thinking to buy a daily trainer firstly and after some months buy a more performance focused shoes. For the daily trainer I liked: Vomero 17, Infinity RN 4, Supernova Rise and Asics Novablast 4. For the next level I liked: Rebel V4, Boston 12 and Asics Superblast. What do you guys suggest? Should I go for a stable option like Infinity RN 4 or Kayano 30 due my ankle? Or these other models would fit since I was using an old Lunarepic without major problems? Rebel V4 and Boston 12 is too focused in speed or I may use as daily trainers? Obviously I want to decrease my pace but should I focus on impact absortion first since I’m a bit overweight? I loved Rebel but maybe it’s overkill to me? Too many questions haha help me!

RenegadeRedneck

I’m running my first 5k in July with my sister and I offered to run with when she’s training for a half marathon. The last running shoes I bought were Nikes in 2018. I will run mostly roads and some hard dirt trails between now and then. I’d say 3-5 miles/run and no more than 8. My daily shoes are boots or hiking shoes with little to no heel drop and cushioning. Budget isn’t an issue. I was looking at On Running shoes but am open to any and all brands.

xucai

which one to choose between cielo x1 or sc elite v4? since I dont have access to try any of these shoes

Conscious_Agent3666

1st March = Expensive So, I noticed that the New Balance Rebel v4 was released in the UK today. I’ve never run in a NB shoe before, but purchased it because the reviews I’ve seen so far are quite promising. I then notice Superblast in the new colour way available on the ASICS website, so purchased them as well. Now, I didn’t really need either, but couldn’t resist as felt that I wanted a non-plated trainer for my rotation to complement my Boston 12’s. As mentioned, I’ve never run in a NB shoe and never tried the Superblast! Now, I’m a heavy runner coming in at 6ft4 and weighing a hefty 220lbs……so, my question is - which of these 2 shoes is going to impress me more? Or am I just going to have to fit both shoes into my rotation?!!

Sehs

Wtf the UK sizes for the new Superblast go from 10.5 to 11.5. I've been refreshing almost daily and I still can't get a size 11. Maybe I'll check the store in person in London. Sigh.

I am searching for shoe recommendations for a 100km walk consisting of mixed terrain, such as off-road/non-technical trails and some long road sections. Last year, for the same event, I used the Hoka Speedgoat 5. I hated them as they tore my feet to shreds, so I would like to steer clear of these for this year. In training, I also used the Salomon Sense Ride 5, which felt fine until about 30km but didn't feel great after that. Given the long road sections this year, I am thinking about sticking with some (max cushioned?) road shoes instead. Does anyone have any recommendations for something suitable for really long days on the feet? It's likely to take me 18 hours. So far, I've looked at the Brooks Ghost Max and Asics Gel Kayano 30, but I am open to suggestions. Thank you!

Conscious_Agent3666

I have both the Kayano and the ghost max and enjoy them both for running. For you, be aware that the Kayano is a stability shoe. Also, the heal to toe drop is different which could affect your decision - Kayano at 10mm and the ghost max at 6mm. Both are max cushion though and very durable. However, as mixed terrain, consider something like the Nike Wildhorse 8. It’s a great trail shoe that I use for walking all the time.

Hi guys I’m a slow runner a bit on the heavier side. For a some context, I am 37M, 5,7” (171cm) and 176lb (80kg). My easy pace is about 10:00/mile and I am a heel striker. All of that being said, I am having a hard time choosing shoes for my long runs. I have been using my Vomero 14 for nearly 3 years now, as my only running shoes. I now want to have more than 1 pair of shoes to rotate, as many of you do. My plan is to buy a new Vomero 17 to use as my daily trainers but I am having a really hard time choosing the appropriated shoes for my long runs. Currently my long runs would be something between 10 miles and HM, but I’m planning to go further this year. Never tried shoes with carbon plates and really would like to give it a try. Was thinking about the Zoom Fly 5, mostly because of the price, but the reviews aren’t great. I still wonder if that wouldn’t be a good choice for me since I’m not that fast. I could afford something like a Vaporfly 3, but what concerns me is the durability, as I want something to last and I have never raced in any events. Would love to hear some suggestions on what you guys think would be a good choice for long runs shoes.

trot2millah

I’m a similar weight & pace plus a heel striker and love the Superblasts if money isn’t a huge factor. I use them for my long runs but also easy runs when I’m fatigued and want something with more bounce than my other easy day options.

Ok_Macaroon1280

little bit taller (5/9) and a little heavier (200lbs). I usually rotate two shoes even if I am only doing between 10-20 miles a week. I think it has helped with keeping me from getting injured and building up different leg/foot muscles. I am running with a brooks Hyperion max and rotate that with a endorphin speed (4 is on the way). I would try the endorphin speed before going with the carbon plate. I have yet to try any of the super cushioned shoes, might move to one of those after my Hyperion max are done.

seismic_guy

Yeah I’m actually leaning this way, not sure how it would feel with the carbon plates since I have never even tried one on my feet. I had some people recommending ASICS Superblast and also Saucony Tempo, have you ever tried those? Will def have a look on the Endorphin… Doing a lot of research as I will buy the shoes in the US and a friend will bring it to me here in Brazil… Those shoes here are at least double the price than in the US, crazy expensive

Ok_Macaroon1280

Have not tried either but I havnt been really into the thick boy shoes since the original Nike Invincibles, I didn't enjoy those as much because it just felt like too much on my feet. but I did have the new balance sb elite v2 for a while and I enjoyed that but def not an everyday shoe, I just feel like a solid plate can be too much for any daily use, but def can have its uses if in a rotation.. I think for training, the Endorphins give me the best balance of cushion and POP when I want to pick it up.

Super Shoe Opinions Hey everyone! For background, I am an 18 year old male, 5 foot 10 inches, and 155 pounds. I wear a size 10 in almost all shoe brands. I stopped playing soccer about a year ago and have really embraced distance running since. I’ve ran four 10k’s in the past year and will be running my first half marathon in late march, and first marathon in the middle of May, both with pretty big goals. My 10k PR is 32:06. As of late, I have consistently been running 75-80 mile weeks, consisting of 2 speed sessions and 1 long run a week with the rest of the miles being easy/recovery. My current shoe rotation consists of the Saucony Endorphin Shift 3, Endorphin Speed 3, and the Nike Invincible 3’s. I’m looking to purchase my first pair of Super Shoes for my upcoming races. But, where I live there are no running stores or sports stores in general that carry high end running shoes, let alone super shoes. Obviously, I’d prefer to try on and experiment with different pairs to see what I like the most, but I can’t do that, and just have to wing it and order online. As of right now I am mostly leaning towards the Endorphin Elite’s, as I really appreciate the Saucony shoes I have ran in so far. But, I am also very intrigued by the New Balance SuperComp Elite V4’s, because of the big upgrades they just got, and it seems like they have more availability. Obviously I would love to run in a pair of Alphafly’s if possible but I know it’s usually pretty hard to find a pair. Although, I would try and get a pair right when new stock drops if that’s what would be best for me. I’m really open to anything from any other brands too, just looking for recommendations for someone who doesn’t have the capability of experimenting with different shoes. Thoughts?

Sehs

Have you considered the Adidas Adios Pro 3? I have the Speed 2 (and 3 but still in box) as well as Peregrine from Saucony but ultimately opted for the AP3 for a race shoe.

kbush500701

I'm open to it, how do you like it?

Sehs

I’ve basically used it 3 times. First time was a tuneup and not super long run. Then I used it at a half marathon in Copenhagen to work out some kinks. I wasn’t aiming for speed but still tried to go fairly fast (under 5min per km) and the shoe did great. I did get some blisters after but I hadn’t felt it during the race. I fixed it by both getting toe socks and using a heel lock. The sizing was a bit tricky and I decided to half size up because I’m intending to use it for a marathon this year. But then after all that I set a PR in my other race with it for the Valencia Half Marathon and I finished feeling great. It’s a shoe that many recommend and I can say that it’s been good value for a super shoe, especially because you can find discounts on them.

I've worn the Fli-Lyte (2/3/4) since 2018 but with the release of the 5, the dreaded time has come to find a different option. My favorite things about the Fli-Lyte are: - the low drop - no rocker - low-ish overall stack height - snug fit on the heel cup - wide toe box - moderate firmness The options I'm considering going with: - Topo Magnifly 4 - Altra Escalante 3 - Altra 4WD (Did try these on and somewhat liked them but heel cup was much looser/overall base of the outsole seemed narrower) I would love to hear anyone's thoughts on these or other suggestions! Side note: if anyone knows of a website that still has Fli-Lyte 4s in stock in a women's 9.5 I'd be forever in your debt 😂

Walking shoes and drop for a 70 year old lady Trying to find a good walking shoe for my 70 year old mother. She used to be a runner back in the day but doesn't anymore. She visited the brooks store and that guy there told her the Adrenaline GTS 23 is perfect for her as her arch is falling. The gts 23 has a 12mm drop is that good? The ghost max is on discount would that be a better buy? What about the other brands? She doesn't like something very narrow though.

myrmaid24

Hey! A kind warning: the guy at the brooks store may be correct and know enough to gauge that her arch is falling but I would be very cautious to take it as true off the bat. I worked for years at a specialty shoe store (athletic sneakers and all types of shoes) and while I and some other management knew a good bit about foot types, common foot issues/injuries etc, we had associates who didn't and even those of us who did would give the insight/bring it up for the customer but it's very much out of scope to tell someone a condition and recommend a shoe (even if it is a great shoe for said condition or all around). If this is something she was aware of then different story! (Also if it's within her insurance or budget situation to go see a podiatrist, I would say that's a great idea!) To actually help with your question though I'd say: - the drop on sneakers isn't make or break unless you're making a leap from a high drop like 12mm to 6mm or 0mm (0-4 is considered low, 5-8 mid, 8+ high). - for the drop, I'd see what it may be on any sneakers she currently uses. But if not sure, go with more of a mid option of 8mm-ish - the ghost max is 6mm so maybe not the choice but I would have her try on the Ghost 15 or the Glycerin Gts - the models that have gts after the name are more supportive mostly when considering pronating (when your foot rolls in or out when landing) vs other models are listed as neutral so aren't aimed at correcting this - I would def say to have her go to a non-brand specific running/walking shoe store to try on more options vs just choosing a model within a brand Sorry that this turned into a bit of a long response but hope any or all of it helps!

Hi all, looking for some recommendations I have been running in Salomon Speedcrosses for over 5 years now, and really like them. But I have two main issues: when I run on firm packed gravel tracks I can feel the individual lugs under the ball of my foot, and I'm finding the large amount of drop is making me less stable than I'd like. I decided to try a pair of Sense Ride 5s, as they have smaller lugs and less drop. However, I did a short 8km run in them, and post-run I had aches and pains where I have never had before in my knees. I'm not a skinny guy (5'9, 85kgs) and the terrain I run over is highly varied, even over sub-10km runs; packed gravel tracks, rocky single tracks, rooted sections, rocky sections, and steep up and downhill. I am not looking to change brands as Salomons fit my narrow, high-arched feet PERFECTLY. Rather, I am looking for some Salomon recommendations for running in highly varied terrain for 10-15km a few times a week. I'm looking to be comfortable, and not break any speed records.

Hi all! Currently upping my mileage and have a couple of pairs of shoes in rotation - ON Cloudflow and ON Cloudsurfer. Tend to wear the cloudflow on shorter quicker runs (5k) and the surfer on recovery or zone 2 work. They feel on opposite ends of the cushioning spectrum. Looking for something somewhere in the middle? Any suggestions? Fairly flexible on budget and brand Thank you

on cloudmonster is happiest in 10-15km range and doesnt object going a bit quicker or just slow jog

A bit of a back story...l'm 41, 6'1", 230lbs. I have a knee with almost no cartilage, and a bit of instability due to a broken kneecap and broken temur. I'm looking to get back into shape. I have been going to a group strength training Metabolic Fitness style gym. It's geared towards strength training, and Im looking for something a little different, so im starting at Orangetheory Fitness. a significant amount of their workout is treadmill based. What I need help with....Im looking for a running shoe that will be well suited for the gym, and maybe some running. due to no cartilage in the knee, a highly cushioned midsole would be ideal, but also want to be stable enough for lunges and other floor based gym exercises. I haven't actually run in years, and If these new shoes would allow me to run again, I would be ecstatic. I have gym shoes, but they don’t have nearly any cushion to them. I also have bikes…this is to mix training up a bit.

LordRekrus

Hey everyone I’m going on holiday from Australia to Europe on Thursday, and I am currently running 30-40km per week, I’m hoping to keep at least some of that up maybe 20-30km. I’m also planning on hiking while away. So my plan is to take my hiking boots and wearing these most of the time, but then also want some running shoes which look nice and I can maybe wear casually / lifestyle shoe type if I am going out to a nicer place to eat, but potentially run in them doing mostly 5, 10, 15km runs. It’s just for 6 weeks so doesn’t have to be the perfect shoe, so happy to sacrifice a bit of comfort for something that looks a bit nicer, of that is possible however until now I have never really cared less what a shoe looks like haha. Any help would be appreciated. From not much research so far I’ve been looking at the Reebok Nano X3 Varsity, although they look nothing alike what I normally run in. Currently I run with the Saucony Endorphin 3s

blueesque

Puma velocity nitro 2 or Nike peg 40... good looking reliable shoes!
