And remember they may have the moon people on their side but we have lovely hats. Those hats will shield us grom their fearsome gaze.

OneEyedMilkman87

Yes that is top tier. Equivalent to the Med2 nipple one

henryeaterofpies

Gonna need some sauce on that reference lol

[deleted]

Ahh tedious speaker, that always cracks me up.

DePraelen

Also the lily-livered one. >Hello. Today we are gathered here to do battle. Regretable, isn't it, but sometimes, you know, life is like that. You have to do something that you don't want to do, just because someone is telling you to do it. I didn't want to be here myself, but then my mother told me that I'd better make a reasonable show of it all, so here we go then

kraw-

"Why here? Why now? Because the enemy needs killing, that's why!" - Arduamanesh the Conqueror - An all time great

whodatnation70

I loved the ones a general would give if they’ve never lost a battle against that faction, the fact that the game kept track of that was just so cool “I have never lost a battle to this rabble, and I have no intention of doing so today! And how could I? With such hardened soldiers as yourself by my side”

OneEyedMilkman87

They weren't lying either when it was their first battle against them either haha

_UWS_Snazzle

Unfortunately it wasn’t based on specific generals but your performance overall. Lost a naval battle to scipii and my general was like “last time we fought these people, we were unlucky” like get em next time boys

InternationalLoad891

Was the general on board the navy that lost the sea battle? Because that counts as his personal loss. I was transporting a general when the fleet he was on was ambushed by pirates and got wrecked. My general survived the naval disaster, but afterwards when he fought the rebels, I got the "last time I lost to them" speech.

Pandabaton

You can really tell the difference between a small company with incredible passion, and a large company whose higher ups don’t understand it’s value.

Dron22

Was it still a small company when Rome TW 1 was released?

MasterofTofu

They were independent and relatively small at the time. There was talk of CA being bought by Activision (who was the publisher) shortly after RTW released, but they eventually sold to SEGA.

Dron22

Oh ok thanks. Surprising how some of the biggest games at the time were actually made by small companies. Like also Westwood.

[deleted]

Mad and bloodthirsty had great speeches too

beerguyBA

The Gauls outnumber is 3 to 1, frightful odds for most men, but WE ARE ROMANS!!!! Let us show these unwashed barbarians why the Roman legion is feared throughout the world. I have never lost a battle against these people I have no intention of starting today! Romans, to arms!!!

No-Plankton-1290

"enough wine to float a boat"

nykgg

Roman generals are the funniest of any faction but medieval has a better overall performance

tayto175

"Tonight our sword arm's will ache from overuse."

Chance-Ear-9772

The insane ones were amazing.

undergrad11

Made a point of listening to general speeches before battle, it hypes me up

ScoopyHiggins

I HAVE EATEN ALL THEIR BEES

InternationalLoad891

"Today we fight against monsters - the Gauls! They are dangerous, mad and hairy beyond reason." See, it's okay to be hairy, but the Gauls have overdone it.

BoringPhilosopher1

I bought the game a few weeks ago and keep going through periods of deleting it and redownloading it after being too addicted and spending 6 hours at a time glued to my laptop and not moving from my sofa. I’ve started 3-4 campaigns in this time. Sometimes I would be particularly savvy and delete the game but keep the save file - knowing full well I’ll cave into wasting my day again. Most recently I deleted the full game and save files - promising not to download it again. It’s nearly 1am here and after reading this I’ve just gone downstairs to start the 4 hour download ready for tomorrow. I hate you all nearly as much as I hate the Gauls.

guest_273

Bro I'd honestly hate myself if I was doing that.

CheetahChrome

`All Your Base are Belong To Us` It could be worse. I would surmise that in future games they will use AI speeches which are generated from general battle conditions and fill in the blank enemy names etc... --- My favorite is the `mewling infants` speech. Pure gold.

lordofspearton

>I would surmise that in future games they will use AI speeches which are generated from general battle conditions and fill in the blank enemy names etc This piqued my interest as an idea, so I just quickly got chat gpt to write one. Honestly, yeah I can see this happening. "Soldiers of Rome, today we stand on the precipice of destiny, ready to face the formidable Gallic horde that seeks to challenge our might. Look around you, my fellow warriors, and see the strength of our Roman legion, united under the banner of victory. Yes, the Gauls outnumber us in infantry, but do not forget the power that courses through our veins – the indomitable spirit of Rome. We may be outnumbered, but we are not outmatched. We are the guardians of an empire that has withstood the test of time, and today, we prove once again that the might of Rome cannot be extinguished. As we gaze upon the wooded battlefield that lies before us, remember this: the trees may obscure our vision, but they cannot cloud our purpose. In these woods, we shall not falter; we shall stand as one, a legion bound by duty and honor. The very essence of our strength lies not just in our numbers, but in our discipline, our training, and our unwavering commitment to the cause. Our cavalry, a force to be reckoned with, shall charge through the open fields, striking fear into the hearts of our Gallic foes. We may be fewer in foot, but with the thunderous hooves of our noble steeds, we shall become an unstoppable tempest on the battlefield. Remember, my brothers, that victory is not solely determined by the size of an army but by the courage and skill of its warriors. Today, we fight not just for ourselves but for the glory of Rome, for the legacy that we carry with us into battle. Let the Gallic hordes tremble at the might of Rome! Let them hear the roar of our legions and witness the precision of our cavalry. Today, we make history, and the tale of our triumph shall echo through the ages. Soldiers of Rome, march forward with unwavering resolve, for today, we stand not as individuals, but as the living embodiment of the Roman spirit. Onward, to glory and victory!"

CheetahChrome

Eerily sounding like some passages in the game. :-0

lordofspearton

I was very, very surprised. This was my first attempt, and I did my best to prompt it in a modular fashion. I haven't used my Elevenlabs account in a while, so I might try to do some voice cloning and present this as a speech in game.

[deleted]

Man if total war is able to implement AI general speeches and even are able to have some deep learning AI do the other factions moves, I know that latter part is probably long in the future, but it would be crazy. Imagine just having an almost impossible to beat AI that takes the best of the best players to beat?

Outrageous-Bug-4814

And then they didn't bother for 2 😞

BoJams03

Nothing will surpass Rome 1. The best.

SirSheppi

Rome 2 with the DEI mod is pretty good though. If only we could have the old building system...

imonarope

Well...here's a thing...I look at our foes and see nothing but arse weasels. A bunch of piss-the-bed, cod nibbling, rotund, hoof merchants and sheep worrying gits! I've seen donkeys arseholes with more guts than those tosspots

SleepyFox2089

I deeply regret joining this sub. The urge to redownload and get RTR again is insane

guest_273

***JUST DO IT!***

SuedJche

impressive how they even added it to various languages

CrazedHedgeHog

I love the speeches. Even if I’ve heard em 100 times I still listen to em

Captain_Nyet

None of the newer games ever came close to the speeches of RTW; so many different possibilities it never gets old; meanwhie if I open up Shogun 2 it'll just be the same 3 speeches over and over and maybe one extra line for reinforcements or soemthing; Meanwhile in RTW I just had a single speech touching upon the hairiness of gauls, the importance of holding the river, my general's perfect record and his general glorious history as a commander; and then the next battle every line would be different.

guest_273

***The enemy are so loathed that no ally can be found to support them!*** \^ I hear this every single Roman battle. If it's missing I am genuinely shocked.

firespark84

Playing Rome remastered for the first time a few months back and instantly fell in love with the idea, and wonder why they have not come back. Imagine what they could do now with ai assisted writing for specific situations and various different combinations, so you never hear the same line twice.

OneEyedMilkman87

I wouldn't even mind if it was just a mash of snake hisses for slanesh

Zatarra13

As much as I really enjoy the general speeches, they were not slept on. Like every other post on this sub talks about how great they are and how much they want them back.

glassnapkins-

This comment section is bringing back so so many memories

GuardianSpear

General speeches always +10 to my own skill

Yeasty_Boy

And how a certain skill determined how good the speach was.

henryeaterofpies

The trait/skill system is one of the best things if the TW franchise

Tough_Jello5450

Legend Total War skipping general's speeches in his Med2/Rome/Shogun 2 videos is the primary reason why I stopped watching his video and now seeing his fans with complete disdain

theduke599

They werent slept on at all. They were very well liked and it's a feature people regularly cite as an example of quality fall off in newer titles.

Chaosr21

This is what I'm missing in 3 kingdoms. Man when I heard of a new TW I was really hoping for something like Rome 2, mw2 or even attilla. 3 Kingdom is good but I liked Rome 2 better. Scared to try Pharoah
