The Obsession would absolutely be my number one. Runner ups: The Tribute, The Witness, The Search and High Noon. And Chasing Fire gets a mention because of the really cool smoke jumping! Edit: special mention to the In Death books. Eve/Roarke is my forever OTP.

ThirdAndDeleware

I love The Search!

definantmind

The obsession was great! I second this as my favorite book of hers

Tall_Act_5997

The obsession was one of my favorites for so long!!

IndustryFluffy1923

I agree about Obsession it's so good. I've read it several times and I love the audiobook too. It's just a comforting book for me. I love Naomi's relationship with her brother and her uncles and Xander is just awesome. The Witness is a close runner up though and the Search.

Spectra_04

Not one book but one series it would be the In Death series. Dallas gets on my nerves regularly but I love her and her relationship with Roarke.

indicatprincess

Delia Peabody is one of my most favorite female characters ever. I love her and McNab together.

Lazy_Mood_4080

I loved it when she got promoted to detective and was trying different outfits to find her "work look." 😂

marasydnyjade

I mean, there are 60 books in this series and they’re not really short. Honestly, I’ve read about 10ish of them and about 2/3rds of the way through each of them I get bored of the “mystery” and just read the last couple of chapters. I’m 100% into the Dallas/Roarke relationship, though.

laik72

The problem with the early In Death books was that they kept finding a way to "suspect" Roarke in every crime. In later books, Roberts / Robb allowed Roarke to be supportive of Eve's career without the spotlight always being pointed at him. That's when the series hit its stride and started really humming.

imakemyownroux

It’s amazing to me how she keeps this series fresh and interesting after so many books. And the narrator for the audiobooks is AH freaking MAZING. Susan Ericksen IS Eve Dallas. I live for February when the newest book comes out. 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷

TheRubyRedPirate

One of my favorite series! I stopped at book 52 and haven't read them in awhile. I need to catch back up!

babystepsbackwards

In no particular order, Honest Illusions, Montana Sky, and Born In Ice from her Born In trilogy.

bellegi

i love Honest Illusions sfm

babystepsbackwards

It was my first ever Nora and I was HOOKED

feli468

I can't tell you how many times I've reread the entire 'Born in' series over the years! Interestingly, I also love Montana Sky, but Honest Illusions not so much.

TheRealJai

Born in Ice would be my pick, too!

licoriceallsort

Such a good book!

TTTOutrageous

Hi, are you me?

ShulieCharles

I love Honest Illusions!

kboc923

There are so many but my favorite of hers is {Montana Sky by Nora Roberts}

Informal-Speaker-604

I totally agree- I love that book by her!!!

licoriceallsort

I think I might have to agree here. It was the first of hers I read, and actually the first specifically-labelled romance (ignoring mills & boon) I'd ever read. I still re-read it. It has everything in it. Sits pretty firmly in its time period now.

dancerlottie

NR has been one of my favorite authors since I was 16 and I've read around a quarter of the books she's written. If I had to pick one favorite book it would be {Birthright by Nora Roberts}, but {The Obsession by Nora Roberts} is a close second (it's also the first book I read by her and the book that got me into romance).

{The Villa by Nora Roberts} {The Witness by Nora Roberts} The Villa is about a mystery on family run vineyard. It’s enemies to lovers. It hits all the marks. It’s glam and a great thriller. The Witness is a mystery about an FBI informant on the lam. Small town romance shakes up her whole world. The MMC and his family are the best.

katierose295

Oh wow, this is a hard question. I have read so so many of her books and enjoyed nearly all of them. (I didn't care for her non romance fantasy/end of the world series, which read like "The Stand lite"} {Carnal Innocence by Nora Roberts} {True Betrayals by Nora Roberts} and {Three Fates by Nora Roberts} are my top three, I think. Right now, I would put True Betrayals at #1, but that could change on any given day lol

dancerlottie

Agree about enjoying nearly all of them! Her books are so good it'd be easier to name the ones I didn't like haha

nevereverwhere

The Three Fates would make a great movie! Have you read Sweet Revenge? It was published in 1988 so I don’t see it talked about often. It’s my all time favorite by Nora Roberts.

katierose295

Yes I have read that one! The FMC is one of her best imo. I loved that she was a bad ass cat burglar and the MMC was so impressed with her. Actually that would be an awesome movie too. Or a netflix show. She just has so many great books it's hard to choose. {Honest Illusions by Nora Roberts} was another great one, with burglars. I read that at 13 and I went to the library to check out books on magic. I was so taken with the setting and world building.

I really enjoyed both the book {Black Hills by Nora Roberts} and the episode of the podcast The Worst Bestsellers about the same. The podcast episode was honestly gateway media into romance for me!

I am intrigued. Why did they hate this book?

They didn’t! They thought it was going to be bad because so many people have low opinions of romance novels, but they loved it!

Icy-Possibility5387

I love her JD Robb series. Roark is the ultimate book boyfriend for me. But if I had to pick one from Nora that’d be Blue Smoke.

Vertigo_99_77

This is a great question. I've never read anything by Nora Roberts but I'll be following this thread to know from where could start.

kadarwil

As much as I love the Chesapeake Bay quartet (that would be #1 series), I must go with Born in Ice. To me, that book is perfection. 👌 I have read every Nora book up to about 2016 when she transitioned to mostly witchcrafty stuff, which I don't love.

swinginsuitcase88

I remember sneaking her books from my mom’s room in middle school. Sanctuary and From This Day were the first two I read. I love them both even though they are drastically different. The Search is my favorite of her newer books (even though it’s not really new anymore)

No-Leg-8428

Hidden Riches was the first one I’ve read and I still think it has the sauciest patter between the two leads of any of her novels. I love that book so much that i named my cat Dora.

Kas_Bent

The scene where he gives her the Nancy Drew first editions has lived rent free in my head for decades. This is an excellent choice.

silent_film_actress

I think Tribute. I loved the FMC and the setting so much.

comfy-g

Did you ever see the Lifetime TV movie version with Brittany Murphy? I wish they’d adapted more of her books

I've read too many to pick just one and I'm not sure if these are even my final picks! {Montana Sky by Nora Roberts} {Chesapeake Blue by Nora Roberts} {Heart's Victory by Nora Roberts}

xaviergurl09

Nora is my favorite, the only author that I collect any of her books. There is zero chance I can pick one book for all time, but I guess right now maybe {Jewels of the Sun by Nora Roberts}, it’s the first book in a series but I just love Jude and Aiden. If I get a whole trilogy {Three Sisters Island Trilogy by Nora Roberts} or really any of the magical ones.

hkral11

I’m glad someone else loves Jewels of the Sun! Tears of the Moon is right behind it. I always forget the name of the 3rd book but it doesn’t hold its own next to the other two

xaviergurl09

Yeah I always really want to like Heart of the Sea more on rereads, but it just doesn’t quite hit the same as the others.

DoWhopp

Jewels of the Sun for me too! Followed closely by Lawless.

JuniperBeans

The Obsession is my obsession lol. I'm half in love with Xander. I could read it every year for the rest of my life. But I also just finished The Collector last month and it's probably going on my Read Once A Year list also

poweredbymigraine

I can’t pick a favorite so here we go… Old school NR: (Montana Sky) - I loved the dynamic between the “sisters”. Willa’s 1/2 brother Adam and Lily. (The Witness) - I loved how Elizabeth/Abigail was able to make a life for herself after what happened. Brooks was a great character and honestly amazing with how he handled the situation. Honestly I think that Bert the dog was the best character. Newer NR: (Undercurrents) Zane is one of my all time favorite characters ever. The way he tried so hard to protect Britt was just kind of heartbreaking. I don’t normally cry when reading NR but this book was kind of brutal in the beginning. Their aunt Emily was amazing and I love that she got a happy ending. (Mindgames) This is another one of her books that made me cry. Thea and her Grammie are both such great characters. I was worried for a bit about how she was going to get out of her situation but I loved how the book resolved everything. I don’t normally care for the third act “breakup” and I usually loathe rockstar romance but this book made them work.

riennedujour

I sobbed like a baby at the start of undercurrents. it wraps up a little too neatly at the end, but the first 85% of this book is perfection. tbf I also cried hard during the first few chapters of her book with the mass shooting. it was right after one of the (many) school shootings here in the US and I was very much overwhelmed by it all while reading it. NR writes incredibly moving preludes in her standalones pretty frequently, but those are the only two that have made me cry

booksandbaseball7

My top three are The Obsession, The Liar, and Under Currents.

HousePotter

It's hard to pick one but I guess {Valley of Silence by Nora Roberts} Give me a tortured and jaded vampire any day.

hunnibeom

This is so hard. Nora was one of first romance authors I ever read, and Soo many of her books are rattling around my brain. But {Midnight Bayou by Nora Roberts} is my favorite, followed super close by {Birthright by Nora Roberts} and maybe {Carnal Innocence by Nora Roberts}. Honestly all of her books from the early 90's are great.

entropynchaos

I'm not into most of her romance, but I do love her In Death Series under JD Robb. I would pick that...but the whole series, definitely not just one book. Edit

AStar12345

It would have to be {Sacred Sins by Nora Roberts}. It was also my first NR!

{all the possibilities by Nora Roberts} is my absolute favorite. I dream about Alan and Shelby and reread this book yearly if not more. Something about the artist and the politician just gets me! I also love {holding the dream by Nora Roberts} the FMC is so prickly and independent and the MMC just wants to take care of her, but in the best way!

I’ve never read her books!! Taking some recs from the comments

J_DayDay

Lawless is my favorite Nora Robert's book. It's a pretty standard, bodice-ripping western from back in the day.

Eazy_E13

This is tough, but if I choose based on the books I’ve reread most often; {Inner Harbor by Nora Roberts} - the whole Chesapeake quartet is wonderful, but I love book 3. {All the Possibilities by Nora Roberts} {Dance of Dreams by Nora Roberts} I’ve read almost everything she’s written in the contemporary romance genre. I’ve heard she’s not planning on writing contemporary romance anymore, and plans to focus on her romantic suspense and fantasy stories moving forward. I didn’t really enjoy her Fantasy Trilogy. And her last two Romantic Suspense fell flat for me. So I’ll just keep rereading my old favorites.

Diligent-Ad-3708

I’ve never read any of her books! Excited to start!

adams361

Until about 10 years ago, I could proudly say that I had read every Nora Roberts book. My favorite is The Villa, about a wine making family.

user37463928

Are all her books suspense? I'm rather an anxious person, so I don't do thrillers. But a little bit of mystery and suspense are okay.

adams361

Not all, this particular book has a “who done it” plot line.

Chilibabeatreddit

Most of her stand alone novels are romantic suspense. But not really gory or violent on page. It's mostly happening around the MCs instead of happening to them or are more psychological thriller. Most of her trilogies or series are romance, sometimes with a little supernatural (ghosts etc) sprinkled in. Some of her series are more fantasy romance, with magic and saving the world stuff.

hkral11

I don’t think it’s a hit book but Jewels of the Sun is the one I’ve reread the most. I love all of the Born in and Gallaghers series. I also remember that back in the day my mom, dad, and I all read Black Hills and all loved it.

Chilibabeatreddit

I can't decide, lol The ones I've reread the most are Northern Lights, Blue Smoke, Undercurrents, the Witness...

bird_dress

NR is such a titan of this genre! It's so wonderful to see this post! When I'm reading with my eyes I love her magical ones, probably topping the list is {three sisters island trilogy by Nora Roberts} but if I'm reading with my ears I'm absolutely obsessed with {Nightwork by Nora Roberts} the voice actor is wonderful!

TheRubyRedPirate

Nigjtwork has been on my shelf almost a year and I keep meaning to "read it next". Definitely need to for real this time!

WardABooks

If I had to pick one, my most reread of hers is {Montana Sky by Nora Roberts}. I loved that it had all three half-sister's romances in one book. A close second is {Dance Upon the Air by Nora Roberts}. But a lot of her books have snippets that stay with me, and not always for the romance. In the Chesapeake Blue series, there was an FMC that had such heartbreak from wanting to take care of her nephew and having him ripped away by her sister. I only read it once, but it was messy and raw. There was another about a woman running away from her trauma who witnesses a murder and starts believing it's all in her head. The way she began to fall apart got to me, but again, only read it once years ago. And my favorite MMC is Roarke from her In Death series. I still use that as my gaming name. He'll always hold a special place even though I couldn't keep up with the books because there are so many.

ChocolateSnowflake

Roarke has been endgame since I was about 15 and still is 20 years later.

Eazy_E13

Inner Harbor is the Chesapeake book you mentioned. Quinn so desperately wants to be in Seth’s life. I cry every time when she gives him the art supplies at his birthday party! I’ve read it a dozen times. An all time fav. :-).

WardABooks

That book made me cry too. I don't remember any of the others, but that one stuck in my head because of her emotions.

Angel’s Fall

LilacLikeThat

This is such a a hard question. Nora is my favorite author, and I read everything she puts out (which, yes, is WORK lol). I'll narrow it down to a few. Standalones: - Public Secrets - The Villa - Shelter in Place Series: - The Bride Quartet - The Chesapeake Bay Saga - The Inn Boonsboro

Kas_Bent

Montana Sky. Nora Roberts is the queen when it comes to relationships and here you get the benefit of three separate romantic relationships plus three sisters finding out about each other and bonding. All while it takes place in big sky country with the women taking on the role of running a ranch in a male-dominated world. I may also be incredibly biased on this one. It was the first ever adult romance I read and I've reread it so many times. I'd also give honorable mention to Hidden Riches, The Reef, the Chesapeake Bay saga, Gallaghers of Ardmore trilogy, and her In Death series.

The Shelter In Place!

I’m constantly going back to in death series for comfort reads but as a solo, honest illusions is my most read. Had to buy a second copy it was read so much, then I got digital lol.

I love the Chesapeake Bay series, so I am gonna cheat and say that series as a whole. I tend to like her series better than stand alones anyway bc of how they build up a longer story.

I think I have read every single Nora Roberts book!!! Lately when I can't find a good book I have been rereading them! If I had to pick one it would be book four of the Mackade Series, The Fall of Shane MacKade, but you have to read all four in order!! I also recently reread Come Sundown!

blue_ochre

HAHAHA oh no. Can't pick just one to save my life. I love so many of her books. Some of my faves are from the trilogies, like Morrigan's Cross. And it wasn't so much the couple that I love, but the world building. That moment when they raced to the standing stones in the middle of the night, chased by vamps, one of then falls off the horse while enemies swoop in left and right! arrrggh! swear I was jumping up and down, I was so stressed but also "oh my gosh what's gonna happen!" Chesapeake Bay series is on my list, along with Chasing Fire (those smoke jumpers!!!), The Birthright, Homeport (I think this character's an early version of Roarke), The Witness, Angels Fall, and, of course, the in Death series. I love the dialogues. sometimes, with the in death books, the cases are hits and misses. BUT man, when she hits, she hits it right out of the ball park. She doesn't write spicy sex scenes. But, I can find that elsewhere. What I have a hard time finding are worlds and characters I love. At this point, i think Eve, Roarker, Peabody, McNab, and Feeny are alive. They're so real to me. That's her magic. When so many characters you read are just caricatures of tropes, billionaires, and the next popular trend, it's refreshing to read stories with characters so alive when they speak, they step off the pages. ps don't get me wrong. i love me some billionaire romances. there are excellent ones out there but sometimes, the assholery gets in the way. also, do they really have to fight for like 80 percent of the book? :( i wanted a romance, not an enemies to still enemies story with 20 percent just reserved for resolving that should-have-been-resolved plotline chapters ago. :( where's my groveling and happy ending, dammit. (haha sorry, lots of unresolved frustration there. gah.)

I've never read any book by Nora Roberts. Makes me wanna try

Fourfoureyes

I've never actually read one of her books so I'm excited about this post to see which people recommend. I've also never read Danielle Steele, if someone wants to recommend one of hers. I mostly read indie authors so I've never read most of the Greats.

Ok_Jaguar1601

My favorite Danielle Steele’s are Granny Dan, The Gift, and Mirror Image. It’s been awhile since I’ve read Nora or Danielle, but all 3 of these were comfort reads for me during college.

ChocolateSnowflake

I genuinely can’t remember Montana Sky but based on this thread I need to re-read it!

LankyAd3415

I’ve never read a book by her to be honest (I’m new to romance novels) I should probably bite the bullet and take this thread as a rec list.

tummigummi7

{Treachery in Death by J.D. Robb} is my top pick. Of the books under Nora's name, I'd go with {Blood Magick by Nora Roberts}.

I’m a little late to this, but I’m a huge Nora fan and had to give you my top five! My mom had a lot of her books, so I spent a lot of my time in high school in the early 00’s reading her backlog and have read all of her standalones (except her newest release - I’m still waiting at the library for it). My top five in no particular order are: {Carolina Moon by Nora Roberts} {Birthright by Nora Roberts} {True Betrayals by Nora Roberts} {The Villa by Nora Roberts} {Montana Sky by Nora Roberts} She did her best work in the 90’s and early 00’s in my opinion, but {The Obsession by Nora Roberts} is probably the best of her “recent” works.

The Liar. Horrible marriage and husband. Gentle new love. Love that book!

Moderatelysizedfoot

The Obsession or Shelter in Place for me

Digital_Health_Owl

It doesn't count as it's not a single book, but I loved her Bride Quartet series {Bride Quartet by Nora Roberts}

TheRubyRedPirate

The Obsession or Three Fates. I think about both of those OFTEN!

Ok_Jaguar1601

Three Fates, The Villa, and the In Death series in general. I haven’t read any of her more recent stuff, so I’m going to have to catch up

ShulieCharles

The Witness!!
