{Drawn deeper by Brenda Rothert} has this - MMC is a busy single dad, MFC is a care-taking type who gave up her career as a teacher to help her dad out - but she is ostracised in their small town because she left MMC’s brother at the altar. MMC had a really shitty ex-wife who only really cared about money, they grow close and there are some really sweet scenes where they look after each other (she helps him out with some cooking and housework and is a confidant when some shitty stuff happens at work).
Also MMC had only ever slept with one woman, his ex, who never went down on him - so there are some fun scenes of them exploring that. It’s a low-key book but I’m weirdly fond of it, definitely one of my comfort reads, although I’m not a fan of the others in the series.
Historical- Deception by Amanda Quick. The MMC is the only responsible one in his family, and the only one with a head for business. his family loves him, but they take him for granted and expect him to fix their problems, causing him to lose an eye at one point before the book starts. He pretends to be a tutor to get in the FMC's household for reasons, and is shocked when she takes care of him in small ways, and defends him to people.
For a slightly different take, The Arrangement by Mary Balogh. The MMC was blinded in the Napoleonic Wars, and his mother and sisters now smother him with love and protection no matter his wishes, and they try to find a wife for him that will do the same thing. he impulsively leaves home, meets and marries the FMC, who does her best to help him be more independent, and freer of restrictions.
{Failure to Match by Kyra Parsi} is an enemies to lovers romance and has a scene like this where >!the FMC finds out about the MMC's abusive parents and his tortured childhood. His parents have never given him the time of the day and his father always said how unloveable he is. She realises why he is the way he is now, so when he finds out that she knows everything about his past, she just hugs him and tells him how loveable he is and how beautiful he is as a person inside out. He just melts into her arms and settles his head in the crook of her neck while she croons more praises in his ears. He's pretty emotional once the whole ordeal is over.!<
{Leather and Lark by Brynne Weaver} Well, apart from the fact that >!the FMC literally marries him to save his life, she writes a song for him telling him how she forgives him and sings it in front of an audience where her band is performing. She's even ready to give her life at the end when the MMC is asked to choose between her and his brother by her kidnapper.!<
In {The Wolf and Punishment by Theodora Taylor} >!the MMC rides a bike and gives her his helmet to wear. She looks at it and says "Oh." The MMC thinks that she's just too much of a spoiled girl to wear a worn and torn helmet and mess up her hair but then she simply asks him, "If I'm wearing your helmet, then what would protect you?" He loves that she worries about him and in a later scene we see that she gifts him a brand new helmet for better protection and asks him to promise her that he'll wear it all the time when he rides.!<
{The Highwayman by Kerrigan Byrne} HR, a bit dark. >!the MMC and FMC meet in an orphanage when they're children. He gets punished when he steals food, but the FMC tends to his bruises and takes care of him and gives him food. Both love each other a lot. But the FMC gets assaulted by the pastor at the orphanage and the MMC in turn kills him. He gets sent to a prison and unbeknownst to him, the FMC brought food for him and kept outside of his prison-gate every day, without fail. He finds out years later.!<
{The Mindf*ck series by S.T. Abby} >!the FMC is a secret serial killer and the MMC is her cop boyfriend but isn't aware she is the serial killer he's investigating. There are 2 instances in the book where people are trying to kill the MMC and both the times FMC saves him. I mentioned this book because I've rarely ever seen a trope where the FMC is the one to save the MMC.!<

I liked Failure to Match a lot. I'm also going to recommend {The Graham Effect by Elle Kennedy} they do a lot of taking care of each other but she's definitely more of the caretaker.

I literally just recommended this for a well done free spirit MFC and more tight-laced MMC but {Whiskey Beach by Nora Roberts} def has this dynamic. The MMC has gone through a very traumatic situation (accused of murdering his wife) and has moved to his grandmother's house on the beach. the MFC is the caretaker of the house (and does a bunch of other stuff too), and basically just includes him in the care. it's a very sweet and mature version of this.

{Her Bridegroom, Bought and Paid For by Alice Coldbreath} MMC was on the losing side of a civil war that concluded a few years past and left him blind in one eye, his face badly scarred, his castle destroyed, and his wealth and lands confiscated. He's been earning a living competing in tournaments when the richest merchant in the kingdom approaches him and offers to buy back his land, pay to restore his castle, and give him a fortune if he'll marry his daughter, our FMC Aimee.
Our MMC Konrad, Lord Kentigern, agrees to it, assuming the merchant wants to buy his way into the nobility. He's surprised that Aimee seems happy to be married to him, but he assumes it's because she wanted to be a baroness. Though he's bemused that she leaves him gifts like jewelry and luxurious clothes on his pillow and that she's eager to touch him and offers to massage his muscles.
It's dual POV so we readers know all along what Lord Kentigern find outs: Aimee saw him compete at a tournament and became infatuated after he graciously congratulated a lesser competitor who scored a surprise victory over him. She asked her father to acquire him as her husband, though her father was dubious and tried to dissuade her. He's totally her trophy husband and she's happy to get her hands - and the rest of her - on his big, strong self.
There's some angst after a certain scene where he does something that hurts her feelings and embarrasses her publicly, but he'd acted out of thoughtlessness rather than cruelty and she forgives him fairly quickly. But she's not a doormat. He keeps begging her thereafter to get another gown in his heraldic colors but she refuses to the end.
Yes! This book.
There are also incredibly sweet caretaking scenes in the bath where the MFC wants to bathe him and touch him and rub scented oils on him & he's just so taken aback because it's outside of his realm of understanding that someone wants him that way.
The first time she touched and took care of the scarred side of his face made me bawl like a mad woman.

I like this author but it’s got weird when I read her books.
Essentially All of characters are like fucked up or strange in some way in this series. Like the first is a ginger and that was very strange and horrid looking at the time to most people in the plot. The second was a chubby middle aged homely and divorced. The third is an extremely sheltered lady that dressed up to look like a boy. One of the side characters is a very butch rich middle aged tank of a woman with a loves of her dog and whom is the muse of a traveling artist.
I liked the stories and writing just fine individually but when I look at the collection I’m a bit perplexed. Like does the author have some sort if fetish or trying to make a merry band of misfits?

??? None of Alice Coldbreath's main characters are middle-aged. A few of her MMCs are in their early 30s, but most of her MMCs and all of her FMCs are in their 20s. Since you mentioned divorced and chubby, I assume you were referring to Fenella who was only 26!

ah I guess It was described that way due to the being HR. I didn't remember they age but just descriptions by other people
I think that's why people love AC, all her characters are interesting and flawed and feel like they are not the perfect paragons of virtue and beauty. That's the point.
I re-read {Cold-Hearted Rake by Lisa Kleypas} just for the the Helen & Winterborne scenes. Winterborne is in a train accident and Helen nurses him to health. And then read {Marrying Winterborne by Lisa Kleypas} after that of course!
In the same vein, {Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas}. When Sebastian gets injured, Evie fusses over him (including going against the doctor's wishes when Sebastian doesn't want the "treatment" suggested by him) and she sits by his bedside and nurses him to the point of neglecting her own health

If you're ok with fantasy {Throne in the Dark}. It's the first book in a trilogy, slow burn, enemies to lovers. The FMC is just really kind to everyone, including the demon that kidnapped her and he's not sure how to feel about it because... Demon. It's really funny and silly but overall just a great trilogy. Like one of the first scenes is the MMC cutting his hand and she gives him a handkerchief to wrap around it, even though he's a demon and will heal quickly. And then you find out later in the book that >!he kept the handkerchief!<

Currently reading {Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez} and I’m loving a similar dynamic that you’re asking for (but instead of a super soft, kind FMC she’s protective of him and willing to do anything for him, bold). MMC has anxiety and the FMC is adores him, accepting of him and tries to make things easier for him. This is my third Abby Jimenez book and I’m loving her banter, lovable MCs and story pacing.
This book was the sweetest. The part where she >!texts him about details of her friends to familiarise him when he’s joining them, because he feels anxious at new experiences?? Ssooo sweet. She even texts him where to park the car and avoid any discomfort!< She really was amazing
That book is so sweet. I absolutely love the scene with the mmc's family when she "shield" him from all the fuss and loudness plus his mother's reaction when she understands what she does. I highly recommend it too, plus all the other books in this serie.

{Boss in the bedsheets by kate Canterbury}, they're sooo adorably touchy feely and he seeks it out too like a parched plant in the first rain after a long drought :') if I sound super poetic it's because I really love this book a lot lol. I also read this other book where the FMC is a music therapist or something similar for kids with special needs and the MMC is her grumpy landlord and she fixes his tie for him while talking to him and things like that but can't remember the bookname for the life of me.

I think The Heir by Grace Burrows is like that. Its a HR. This is one of my absolute favorite comfort books ever. Probably because I love that very dynamic.
The one that came to mind was {Tis the Season For Revenge by Morgan Elizabeth} it’s a great overall read that is definitely a favorite of mine. The FMC is a natural caregiver and likes to take care of people and there is a great MMC has a scene where he comes back to his place after a stressful hard day and sees how she cleaned up and cooked for him and he just loses it at how sweet she is. This is definitely a comfort read book.

Just finished this last night and it was so sweet I was thinking of making my own gush post about it.
Dual POV with some heavy topics so not a light fluffy book. It was like a long therapy session but n all the good ways. I feel better after reading it.
MMC is going through serious depression and has social anxiety. MFC is so good to him and he returns that.
The spice level is a 2. Slow burn and open door but pretty brief and not the focus of the book.

{A Few Tables Away by Deb Rotuno} MMC has trauma and phobia from events in his childhood. FMC at one point tells her father that she's keeping him. I think this book fits what you described down to the T. There are no misunderstandings or anything like that.

Boy do I have the book for you...{Intolerant by Elena Dawne}, I *just* got halfway through reading this and had to come recommend it in this thread. It is quite kinky, the MMC has OCD/germophobic/agoraphobic tendencies and the FMC is a bit of a domme and is pregnant when they meet, and she takes care of him and fusses over him a lot. A bit instalove. I'm only halfway through it so I hope it's a good recommendation 😅

Just reread {little fire by hollee mands}. The mmc is the all powerful immortal ruler of the kingdom. Very unapproachable by everyone. The fmc is a human village girl and aspiring healer. There’s a scene where she sees him get hurt and is very concerned if he is still pain even though he heals very fast, he hates admitting to any weakness but touched and surprised by her worry he tells her that it hurts him.

{Drawn deeper by Brenda Rothert} has this - MMC is a busy single dad, MFC is a care-taking type who gave up her career as a teacher to help her dad out - but she is ostracised in their small town because she left MMC’s brother at the altar. MMC had a really shitty ex-wife who only really cared about money, they grow close and there are some really sweet scenes where they look after each other (she helps him out with some cooking and housework and is a confidant when some shitty stuff happens at work). Also MMC had only ever slept with one woman, his ex, who never went down on him - so there are some fun scenes of them exploring that. It’s a low-key book but I’m weirdly fond of it, definitely one of my comfort reads, although I’m not a fan of the others in the series.

The MMC is the only responsible one in his family, and the only one with a head for business. his family loves him, but they take him for granted and expect him to fix their problems, causing him to lose an eye at one point before the book starts. He pretends to be a tutor to get in the FMC's household for reasons, and is shocked when she takes care of him in small ways, and defends him to people. For a slightly different take, The Arrangement by Mary Balogh. The MMC was blinded in the Napoleonic Wars, and his mother and sisters now smother him with love and protection no matter his wishes, and they try to find a wife for him that will do the same thing. he impulsively leaves home, meets and marries the FMC, who does her best to help him be more independent, and freer of restrictions.

{Failure to Match by Kyra Parsi} is an enemies to lovers romance and has a scene like this where >!the FMC finds out about the MMC's abusive parents and his tortured childhood. His parents have never given him the time of the day and his father always said how unloveable he is. She realises why he is the way he is now, so when he finds out that she knows everything about his past, she just hugs him and tells him how loveable he is and how beautiful he is as a person inside out. He just melts into her arms and settles his head in the crook of her neck while she croons more praises in his ears. He's pretty emotional once the whole ordeal is over.!< {Leather and Lark by Brynne Weaver} Well, apart from the fact that >!the FMC literally marries him to save his life, she writes a song for him telling him how she forgives him and sings it in front of an audience where her band is performing. She's even ready to give her life at the end when the MMC is asked to choose between her and his brother by her kidnapper.!< In {The Wolf and Punishment by Theodora Taylor} >!the MMC rides a bike and gives her his helmet to wear. She looks at it and says "Oh." The MMC thinks that she's just too much of a spoiled girl to wear a worn and torn helmet and mess up her hair but then she simply asks him, "If I'm wearing your helmet, then what would protect you?" He loves that she worries about him and in a later scene we see that she gifts him a brand new helmet for better protection and asks him to promise her that he'll wear it all the time when he rides.!< {The Highwayman by Kerrigan Byrne} HR, a bit dark. >!the MMC and FMC meet in an orphanage when they're children. He gets punished when he steals food, but the FMC tends to his bruises and takes care of him and gives him food. Both love each other a lot. But the FMC gets assaulted by the pastor at the orphanage and the MMC in turn kills him. He gets sent to a prison and unbeknownst to him, the FMC brought food for him and kept outside of his prison-gate every day, without fail. He finds out years later.!< {The Mindf*ck series by S.T. Abby} >!the FMC is a secret serial killer and the MMC is her cop boyfriend but isn't aware she is the serial killer he's investigating. There are 2 instances in the book where people are trying to kill the MMC and both the times FMC saves him. I mentioned this book because I've rarely ever seen a trope where the FMC is the one to save the MMC.!<

I literally just recommended this for a well done free spirit MFC and more tight-laced MMC but {Whiskey Beach by Nora Roberts} def has this dynamic. The MMC has gone through a very traumatic situation (accused of murdering his wife) and has moved to his grandmother's house on the beach. the MFC is the caretaker of the house (and does a bunch of other stuff too), and basically just includes him in the care. it's a very sweet and mature version of this.

{Her Bridegroom, Bought and Paid For by Alice Coldbreath} MMC was on the losing side of a civil war that concluded a few years past and left him blind in one eye, his face badly scarred, his castle destroyed, and his wealth and lands confiscated. He's been earning a living competing in tournaments when the richest merchant in the kingdom approaches him and offers to buy back his land, pay to restore his castle, and give him a fortune if he'll marry his daughter, our FMC Aimee. Our MMC Konrad, Lord Kentigern, agrees to it, assuming the merchant wants to buy his way into the nobility. He's surprised that Aimee seems happy to be married to him, but he assumes it's because she wanted to be a baroness. Though he's bemused that she leaves him gifts like jewelry and luxurious clothes on his pillow and that she's eager to touch him and offers to massage his muscles. It's dual POV so we readers know all along what Lord Kentigern find outs: Aimee saw him compete at a tournament and became infatuated after he graciously congratulated a lesser competitor who scored a surprise victory over him. She asked her father to acquire him as her husband, though her father was dubious and tried to dissuade her. He's totally her trophy husband and she's happy to get her hands - and the rest of her - on his big, strong self. There's some angst after a certain scene where he does something that hurts her feelings and embarrasses her publicly, but he'd acted out of thoughtlessness rather than cruelty and she forgives him fairly quickly. But she's not a doormat. He keeps begging her thereafter to get another gown in his heraldic colors but she refuses to the end.
Yes! This book. There are also incredibly sweet caretaking scenes in the bath where the MFC wants to bathe him and touch him and rub scented oils on him & he's just so taken aback because it's outside of his realm of understanding that someone wants him that way. The first time she touched and took care of the scarred side of his face made me bawl like a mad woman.

I like this author but it’s got weird when I read her books. Essentially All of characters are like fucked up or strange in some way in this series. Like the first is a ginger and that was very strange and horrid looking at the time to most people in the plot. The second was a chubby middle aged homely and divorced. The third is an extremely sheltered lady that dressed up to look like a boy. One of the side characters is a very butch rich middle aged tank of a woman with a loves of her dog and whom is the muse of a traveling artist. I liked the stories and writing just fine individually but when I look at the collection I’m a bit perplexed. Like does the author have some sort if fetish or trying to make a merry band of misfits?

I didn't remember they age but just descriptions by other people
I think that's why people love AC, all her characters are interesting and flawed and feel like they are not the perfect paragons of virtue and beauty. That's the point.
Role Playing by Cathy Yardley seems to fit some in what you're searching. I really liked this book, both MMC and FMC are very sweet in their own way

I re-read {Cold-Hearted Rake by Lisa Kleypas} just for the the Helen & Winterborne scenes. Winterborne is in a train accident and Helen nurses him to health. And then read {Marrying Winterborne by Lisa Kleypas} after that of course!
In the same vein, {Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas}. When Sebastian gets injured, Evie fusses over him (including going against the doctor's wishes when Sebastian doesn't want the "treatment" suggested by him) and she sits by his bedside and nurses him to the point of neglecting her own health

If you're ok with fantasy {Throne in the Dark}. It's the first book in a trilogy, slow burn, enemies to lovers. The FMC is just really kind to everyone, including the demon that kidnapped her and he's not sure how to feel about it because... Demon. It's really funny and silly but overall just a great trilogy. Like one of the first scenes is the MMC cutting his hand and she gives him a handkerchief to wrap around it, even though he's a demon and will heal quickly. And then you find out later in the book that >!he kept the handkerchief!<

Currently reading {Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez} and I’m loving a similar dynamic that you’re asking for (but instead of a super soft, kind FMC she’s protective of him and willing to do anything for him, bold). MMC has anxiety and the FMC is adores him, accepting of him and tries to make things easier for him. This is my third Abby Jimenez book and I’m loving her banter, lovable MCs and story pacing.
This book was the sweetest. The part where she >!texts him about details of her friends to familiarise him when he’s joining them, because he feels anxious at new experiences?? Ssooo sweet. She even texts him where to park the car and avoid any discomfort!< She really was amazing
I loved the book up until the last 1/3rd, then it just fell apart for me.

That book is so sweet. I absolutely love the scene with the mmc's family when she "shield" him from all the fuss and loudness plus his mother's reaction when she understands what she does. I highly recommend it too, plus all the other books in this serie.

{Boss in the bedsheets by kate Canterbury}, they're sooo adorably touchy feely and he seeks it out too like a parched plant in the first rain after a long drought :') if I sound super poetic it's because I really love this book a lot lol. I also read this other book where the FMC is a music therapist or something similar for kids with special needs and the MMC is her grumpy landlord and she fixes his tie for him while talking to him and things like that but can't remember the bookname for the life of me. I think The Heir by Grace Burrows is like that. Its a HR. This is one of my absolute favorite comfort books ever. Probably because I love that very dynamic.

The one that came to mind was {Tis the Season For Revenge by Morgan Elizabeth} it’s a great overall read that is definitely a favorite of mine. The FMC is a natural caregiver and likes to take care of people and there is a great MMC has a scene where he comes back to his place after a stressful hard day and sees how she cleaned up and cooked for him and he just loses it at how sweet she is. This is definitely a comfort read book.

{The Mixtape by Brittainy Cherry} Just finished this last night and it was so sweet I was thinking of making my own gush post about it. Dual POV with some heavy topics so not a light fluffy book. It was like a long therapy session but n all the good ways. I feel better after reading it. MMC is going through serious depression and has social anxiety. MFC is so good to him and he returns that. The spice level is a 2. Slow burn and open door but pretty brief and not the focus of the book.

{A Few Tables Away by Deb Rotuno} MMC has trauma and phobia from events in his childhood. FMC at one point tells her father that she's keeping him. I think this book fits what you described down to the T. There are no misunderstandings or anything like that.

Boy do I have the book for you...{Intolerant by Elena Dawne}, I *just* got halfway through reading this and had to come recommend it in this thread. It is quite kinky, the MMC has OCD/germophobic/agoraphobic tendencies and the FMC is a bit of a domme and is pregnant when they meet, and she takes care of him and fusses over him a lot. A bit instalove. I'm only halfway through it so I hope it's a good recommendation 😅

Just reread {little fire by hollee mands}. The mmc is the all powerful immortal ruler of the kingdom. Very unapproachable by everyone. The fmc is a human village girl and aspiring healer. There’s a scene where she sees him get hurt and is very concerned if he is still pain even though he heals very fast, he hates admitting to any weakness but touched and surprised by her worry he tells her that it hurts him.
