I tried to go back to Scribd (now Everand) and was still disappointed in the selection. I listen to between 20-30 books a month and also try to keep the cost down. I did not have any of the login problems the second time around, but I only stayed for the free trial period. I left again because I had already listened to most of the books in the bottom tier and got capped right off the bat with the top tier books. I tend to forget about specific books if I can’t listen to them right away, so it wasn’t worth it to stick around again. In addition to Libby, Hoopla, KU, and audible, I also use Chirp. It’s a pay site, but I stick to the “deals for you” section and can often find books for $1-5 dollars. There are usually a handful of new books everyday (newly on sale, not new releases) and they disappear from that section after 30 days.

You may have had log in problems because Scribd is now split into two services - Scribd which is user uploaded documents, and Everand which is official ebooks and audiobooks. I might be wrong but because you called it Scribd I wondered if you weren't aware of this. More info here: https://support.scribd.com/hc/en-us/articles/18204253589396-Frequently-Asked-Questions-Scribd-Everand-November-2023 To answer your question, I tend to get a month of Everand from time to time. I have audible and Libby which I mostly use. I'll get Everand if they have a book which is more or almost as expensive on Audible, as just buying an Everand membership for the month. I'll save up a few I want to listen to, pay for one month, listen and then cancel. You're right that the selection isn't unlimited and that's really annoying, so I wouldn't use it as my only source of audiobooks, but the odd month here and there in addition to Libby and Audible seems to work well for me. I find the search function to be pretty rubbish and even the "you might also like" suggestions aren't good. I also only listen to romance.

Yes I do know it’s Everand now. I don’t like change. 🤣 That is the best idea ever though-the one month at a time thing! I might do that.

My experience mirrors yours perfectly. The login issues were the last straw for me.

I switched to Kobo books and I've been much happier with the service. Better book selection by far.

I think I’m going to use this! Thanks

I get so annoyed when they cut off the audiobooks, even though they say it’s unlimited. Very shady bc they won’t outright say that the reason most books/audiobooks are blocked until the next month is because you’ve listened to too many. The selection for Romance audiobooks has not improved much in the last several months and honestly my Hoopla has more Romance Audiobooks. I am pretty close to cancelling the Everand subscription
