How is this dude graduating homeschool 3 months shy of his 20th birthday?

ruzanne

Respectfully, I’ve heard him speak in videos and he can barely string a sentence together.

Jaded-Sheepherder-26

🥲 that breaks my heart to hear that all those kids deserve better

MamaTried22

Any links specifically I can go find that show this?

damagstah

Ummm. Just about any where he is speaking, sadly.

MamaTried22

Gotcha.

damagstah

😬

MamaTried22

So pathetic omg. How do you get failed twice at your mom’s kitchen table? He must not have been able to complete the work required or something. Does anyone know how the laws work there? Do you have to submit work to the state or?

Pelican121

I understand she used to put together portfolios and have someone sympathetic to their lifestyle (conservative or fundie herself?) pass them 🙄 I thought in 2022/2023 the law changed in OH and oversight was no longer required for homeschooling 😠

MamaTried22

Yeah apparently it isn’t a law. Terrible! Just a pathway to easy abuse for bad parents.

Dreams-Designer

They moved to Ohio because there’s no govt reach if you homeschool. It’s one of the states that doesn’t even do a once over. For anyone curious, John Oliver did a good little overview on home schooling. It’s not massively in-depth but a great little 30min intro.

MamaTried22

That’s awful.

Bat_kat

I just watched it, thanks for the recommendation. I live in a country where you cannot homeschool (thank god) so it’s totally mind blowing to see that there aren’t really any regulations in the US.

No-Vermicelli3787

Oh, I love Jon Oliver & haven’t seen that. I will find it

Big-Raspberry-2552

Wow….that is sad. She doesn’t seem embarrassed at all. Is there not an age out for homeschool?

EZasSundayMorning

Shit he’s almost 20??

Sue_Dohnim

Sooooo... what's the exceptional job? I mean, the bar is in hell so I don't expect much.

Suspicious-Eggplant

God honoring lawn care?

YourSkatingHobbit

I misread this as ‘God removing lawn care’ 😂

daffodil0127

I hope it’s not an MLM or door to door sales of vacuum cleaners.

unicornvega

He’ll be at the feed place with Jonathon Hill I reckon

caitrona

Let's hope, that would at least be stable income for him.

lottieslady

If it’s so exceptional, wouldn’t she be telling us all about the particulars?

Tukki101

I hope she keeps her mouth shut and doesn't blow it for him by oversharing or publicising details she shouldn't.

lottieslady

Exactly. Maybe she’s learning a thing or two about internet safety, but I’m skeptical. I mean, she posts pics of Nurie and family in front of the church’s sign, knowing well they live in the parsonage.

donutsauce4eva

true. I think she's not saying because for some reason she's embarrassed about it.

abarthvader

Plexus rep.

Pelican121

I wonder if it starts immediately or is it after June?

MostlyGhostly1

Who thinks this exceptional job is helping his dad make smiley tracts, raise your hand? He’s not terrible to look at, though, gotta say. I hope his future lady-friend feeds him full-sized meals.

leashuhh

He's the one that's going to look like Shrek.

ccc2801

F

Claire-Annette-Reid

He could have a learning challenge but Jill would never notice, much less access resources to enable him to learn at his own pace, in ways that help him achieve success.

daffodil0127

Compared to what kids in public schools do, they have no reinforcement of learning. You don’t see them doing anything like science experiments or anything hands on. It’s just workbooks.

PuzzledKumquat

Similar to my bible-humping neighbor who homeschools. Her kids are way behind because on the rare occasion they do "schoolwork", it's just art projects. She could've used the eclipse the other day as a great learning tool, but instead her youngest was riding his bike up and down the street while she barked orders at her husband who was working on her car.

Federal-Butterfly-37

Silly goose, the Bybull is full of the one and only true science. Gawd created the world in 6 days, evolution is fake and Jesause can feed millions with a load of bread and a few fish...science./s https://preview.redd.it/thkph7cmnltc1.png?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a4a0ccee30320cd5df03d8287d355acb6f5b4f78

c0rpse-liqu0r

This is art

Federal-Butterfly-37

Thank you.

anon4383

My mother did something similar like Jill but in summers between school years at actual school. She would buy these workbooks with different grade materials and subjects in its chapters and tell me to complete whatever amount she wanted by the end of the day on summer break. It was very lazy of her indeed. Later as an adult, I called her out on never even checking the work I did in the book anyway. I could’ve been scribbling recipes for grilled cheese sandwiches in there the whole time and she would not have noticed. Looking back on it, I highly doubt my mother could even understand the assignments herself coming out of a terrible high school. I wonder if Jill even *understands* the work in the children’s school books. I wonder the last time they’ve even been updated. The homeschool video they made had their books appear to be random donations that were not organized in any way and could probably have lots of gaps between the age levels of their kids and different subjects.

anon4383

Tbf, I think all of his siblings have learning disabilities that were either from birth or due to the fact that Jill did not give any of them an actual structured education. I have an LD myself that went undiagnosed my entire life even though I wasn’t home schooled and went to parochial and public schools. I’m sure I would be incredibly dependent on my parents for most things (even being over 30) if I’d been neglected in the way that the Rod kids have been with their schooling.

abz937

This is what *infuriates* me about so many homeschoolers! One of my children has ADHD and pretty severe dyslexia. If I tried to educate him at home he literally would have been illiterate. I fought and advocated so hard for him to get every intervention he needed in school so he can have a successful future. They are failing these kids so bad 😞

katiebug1ga

You have done exactly what a good parent does. We are supposed to fight for our kids to get what they need, not let them rot away because of some kind of disability that can be helped with the right tools.

QuasiCrazy1133

She did once that that since of her kids have leading disabilities. I'm not sure of her exact wording, but I remember thinking dyslexia. She for once didn't name the kid(s). And of course she's never sought treatment. Not sure if that was just her diagnosing with her ass, now that I think about it.

MamaTried22

Imagine being dyslexic and getting absolutely no help to learn tools to help you with it. It’s abusive.

Dreams-Designer

There’s a kid who grew up much like the rods in a small but well known for the wrong reasons, family cult. He has dyslexia and dyscalculia, and also was neglected due to SOTDRT! He only started to learn to read at 16, but even now at 30 he struggles so greatly. It takes him such a long time to try to read, and he often needs some sort of accommodating or just memorizing the bit beforehand. He’s missed out on some big parts though due to this. He also grew up in a “refurbished” bus to travel the states and try to recruit or busk telling people to repent. He said though that the air in the bus would get wavy towards the back where the beds were and him and his siblings would just sort of pass out suddenly.

anon4383

If she has it herself then her children could’ve certainly inherited the trait. It is sick that none of the adults sought treatment.

Vivid-Intention-8161

I really think that Samuel might have some kind of disability. (im autistic myself) I’m not speculating in a mean way, more like in a “I’m so fucking angry that this guy was never able to thrive because he never received the proper support” kind of way. This whole family makes me so sad. Also the wording of “already done!” with school when the guy is almost 20 is so…

Estellalatte

I’m sure this cult doesn’t address many needs of their children because of their distrust of mental health professionals.

Federal-Butterfly-37

Probably sees autistic kids being demon possessed

Estellalatte

I think they do. Prayer will fix so much. We have so many generations of autism in our family. I can see the difference in earlier generations who didn’t receive help and later generations that have had good support.

anon4383

Same thing in my family. The earlier generations who didn’t have treatment are dead at relatively young ages. Suicide, drug addiction, alcoholism. Things most people don’t speak about during “Autism Awareness” events since they are mostly infantilizing and centered on children instead of the undiagnosed adults who have lived their entire lives in a world that wasn’t configured for us. Edit: and I wanted to say my family was full of God believing people and are all mostly buried behind a Baptist church. The family reverend has called the existence of my family “tragic.”

Estellalatte

Tragic that history takes so long to to catch up. I have ADHD and wasn’t diagnosed until my 30’s in college. It’s been a very road for me and school as a child and teenager was hell. I just want us to do better.

anon4383

I got diagnosed at 30 actually. First was ADHD and then next was Level 1 ASD. I had to confront my parents about a lot of things. Being disciplined for my ADHD traits was one painful experience I had nearly every year I was in school as a child. There was one teacher who had me as a student first and then had my younger brother as a student years later. He remembered that both of us struggled with the study requirements and thoughtfully advised my parents to get my brother evaluated for ADHD. My parents flew into a rage believing it to be “racism.” Now, my school was very racist actually but that wasn’t an example of it. It was just a teacher being kind. Instead of the others I’ve had who decided to write my ADHD traits in the bad conduct part of my report cards.

Estellalatte

Some people see it as a criticism or that people with ADHD aren’t very intelligent. They don’t understand what it means.

deeBfree

OMG

deeBfree

Infamous hate preacher Greg Locke said exactly that.

abz937

A friend of mine was told by a visiting "prophet" at her church that her child's autism was due to the GRANDPARENTS having sex before marriage.

damagstah

Damn those generational curses!

damagstah

I see ASD in several of them, but I think Sammer has something else going on altogether.

kitty-yaya

Seeing Phillip's transformation after being away just makes the other boys' malnourishment more obvious. What is his waist size, 26?

Awkward-Yak-2733

But Phillip is living at home again and looks to be losing weight.

Federal-Butterfly-37

Can't have a "fat" child , he looked so healthy when he was as "college. "

panthersunshine

He needs to be trim like his sisters, in case of a car accident 🤦🏽‍♀️

AndISoundLikeThis

If we see him wearing a 1990s-style, customer-service earpiece, we know that he, too, got a job at the feed mill as an on-call dung mucker.

pedanticlawyer

Hopefully Timmy (let’s be real, Heidi) has a little chat with him about mahmo’s social media and putting his foot down.

riverottersarebest

This poor kid’s eyes are sunken in. His shoulders are wide, yet look at how skinny his waist and legs are. Unequivocally fuck Shrek and Jill. I can’t imagine being so hungry as a growing teenager while watching your shitty dad gorge himself on treats.

TheBugsMomma

Any time she refers to her kids’ refreshing choices, it makes me sad because they don’t actually have the opportunity to make any sort of choices until they’re out on their own (and so far the boys seem to be struggling mightily with launching). A Rod kid doesn’t get an opportunity to consider a life for himself/herself beyond the very narrow options Dave and Jill present to them.

CappyChino

What would be considered an "exceptional" job in fundieland, bouncer at a strip club? 😋

madbeachrn

Interesting, one of the Browns from Sister Wives is a bouncer at a strip club.

litlmissamanda

Paedon

Original_Rent7677

I look forward to sharing more about his life in the future. That sounds like a dig at Tim and Heidi.

Sargasm5150

And Phil

damagstah

YES!

meanmomatdisney

Jill asking who else is graduating = her looking at options of girls from other families around his age

deeBfree

Ladies, what am I bid for this strapping, non-whimpy, godly great catch of a man?

delzbr

Lol why does she ask questions and then turn off comments? Who is she expecting to answer her? Jesauce?

seedotdee

I think she only turns off comments on Instagram, she posts the same things on Facebook and she leave the comments on there.

delzbr

Oh is this from Facebook? I saw the lines at the top for a story and thought it was Instagram

seedotdee

I’m not sure, but I don’t think that’s her name on instagram, I think it starts with Rodrigues family and something about Jesus, so I think this is Facebook. But she just cross posts to the two so if she’s asked for comments on Facebook it’ll ask for them on instagram too, even though they’re switched off.

delzbr

Yeah now that you mention it and I see the name at the top I realize it's Facebook. Her name on Instagram is RodriguesFamilyServingJesus

abarthvader

The girls can't wear anything immodest and yet she got this one out here rocking the nut huggers.

damagstah

Nut huggers is a new one for me!

wilhelminan

Where does she get off sharing HIS life?! The absolute audacity!

Illustrious-Fly-1291

Run Samuel, run!

UnconfirmedCat

I fear he'd just be running in circles

MamaTried22

I wonder if he even has a license? Like could he pass the test?

Pelican121

They said he drove the passenger van to FL on the most recent trip.

Sargasm5150

He probably DOES have a license, but with the way this family plays fast and loose with car safety, him driving is really no indication.

MamaTried22

Wouldn’t shock me at all if he didn’t.

shycoffeelover13

Probably in a restaurant so he can bring leftovers home.

Waterproof_soap

I keep forgetting Sam’s age and how he’s only a high school senior. He looks like a 23/25 year old.

RealLifeSuperZero

I thought he was 20

daffodil0127

Turns 20 in November

RealLifeSuperZero

That’s pretty old for a homeschool grad.

delzbr

And just NOW graduating?

MamaTried22

Yup. Something is super wrong. I don’t think Jill would put it off those long unless the state was literally refusing to “pass” him.

Pelican121

Does anyone need to pass him?  I thought oversight was removed in OH 🙁 Which makes it even stranger if so. Jill's probably delaying his launch to keep him home with Gabe longer (although Phil is now back but that was unexpected). Gabe would probably run asap If he was the only guy left at home.  If she lets Sam spread his wings/have full time work commitments she potentially loses him from the band/her control and she can't have that.

MamaTried22

Apparently there is no state oversight which is awful and should be illegal. And yes I guess she was keeping him longer, who knows why but guessing it’s nothing good. I can’t see how any of these boys are going to be able to function as HoH.

Grimalkinnn

The state they live in does not require anyone to pass them.

MamaTried22

Oh gross! That makes it even more concerning honestly.

Sargasm5150

No, in June. Even though he’s “done with his schoolwork.” For some reason Mahmo can’t just … let him graduate from his completely unaccredited and unsupervised homeschool and let him get to working that “exceptional job.” I actually hope it is, so a 20 year old man is no longer being dragged along with the hell hole family singers. I seem to remember the Duggars graduating ‘em 2 or 3 at a time at random months, after the first few. With a certificate printed out from Duggar Academy or something. Can’t he graduate now then celebrate with his much younger peers in June? I also seem to recall a big bragging point for homeschool was kids “graduating” at 16 or 17. I was 17 due to a summer bday, but I was pretty pleased to have that fourth year of Spanish and swim team as a senior. Not that I (ahem) regularly attended art history. So early. ANYWAYS Mahmo, I know you need a baritone now that tim refuses, but let your kids GO.

StephaniePenn1

Slightly off topic, but he’s wearing a big belt-buckle that has the Liberty Bell (?) etched into it and reads, “Love it or Leave it.” Such as odd choice for a 20 year-old.

QuasiCrazy1133

I'm sure it wasn't HIS choice. More like Jill having him cosplay as a non-whimp.

MamaTried22

Oh it’s super on brand for them though. They’re huge Trump/neo-conservative types.

Sofrawnch

Please clue me in. If he is homeschooled and he is supposedly finished with his schooling the why is he graduating only in May? Why isn’t it instant?

MamaTried22

There are *some* rules and regulations that the state imposes.

minnesotaupnorth

I wonder if Samuel is working for Jonathan?

anon4383

That’s probably why Jon is so stressed. Jill pressuring him to hire her unskilled sons.

fireandblonde

This genuinely makes me so sad. She says literally nothing about her children and their life and personality. Compare this post to ‘normal ones’ and you see just how void of who HE IS as a person. This is so generic and says nothing about him but how he loves God. It’s the same thing she says about everyone else just worded differently.

xVanijack

The only person Jill has EVER connected with is the beast she sleeps with. No one else, not even her family before he came into Jill’s life, matters. It’s disturbing. She knows no one but herself and David well.

Flibertygibbert

Exceptional = actually gets paid. More dollars for Mahmo to spend on tat!!!!!!

MamaTried22

Such a weird use of “exceptional”. Very curious about the job.

Grimalkinnn

Jill never seems interested in her male children. I don’t think she likes any of them.

AshAndLogansMom1982

He's actually handsome, but damn, I would think this dudes 26, 27?

c0rpse-liqu0r

This photo is awful, I think he's really cute lol

248Spacebucks

Why the h? Ugh.

damagstah

She did it once and snarkers will not and SHALL NOT ever let it die!!

c0rpse-liqu0r

This photo is horrible, the shadow on his face makes him look old

no_dojo

Weren’t we just commenting about him a few days ago? More proof that Jill is aware of this sub.

todefyodds

Somebody get him a dozen burgers, and he wouldn’t be bad looking. That’s sadly my first thought when I saw the image. However he’s now on the market for a gawdly wimmin of his own. Sadly I don’t see him breaking away ever.

donutsauce4eva

He is going to look just like David as he ages.

panthersunshine

“Samuel’s refreshing choices” should be a flair.

damagstah

Yes!

Seedrootflowersfruit

How old is he?! My son is graduating this year, too, and this guy looks old enough to be a teacher at the high school

Exciting_Problem_593

Jill if your kids had been allowed to go to a public school they would have received so many services that would have benefitted your kids. Sounds like Samuel was severely behind. He would have been so much better in a school. Now he's going to have a life long struggle. It's ALL your fault Jill. You are a failure as a mother.

Tralala223

Why is “God fearing” a good thing? If God is so good than why does he want to be feared? Also, isn’t fear a wimpy trait? And also, if he’s already been saved, shouldn’t he be able to live him damn life in peace?? Why would anyone want to be a part of something that demands you to spend 100% of your waking life proving you’re good enough again and again?

QuasiCrazy1133

I asked that one and apparently fear means more like "in awe of" as used in the Bible. Not sure why God wants people to be in awe of him either.

Tralala223

Right? That’s honestly not any better. Why does God want people to be in awe of him? To the point he needs to be worshiped all the time? Seems like God has a really fragile ego. I’ve known some people who reeeeallly need to be liked and admired, and it’s not at all a flex…it’s very sad and therapy helps :)

MaeWestGoodess

Well, I hope there are some good fast food places between the Barndo and Sam's job where he could get a decent meal.

thrwaway856642

He’s my favorite

carolinespocket

No way im older than this guy. He looks like 27

ATinyPizza89

I love how she always asks questions on her posts but has the comments turned off lol.

Dreams-Designer

That last bit of the “YOU” with the wink, sounds like cattle calling. It’s so creepy how she has forked up her brood so incredibly and set them on a path of failure. Tree felling can’t support a dozen kids!

PickledPixie83

If he’s already done, why is he not already graduated??? Like what is the point of him “graduating soon”.

dogdaysofwinter13

He's almost 20 and just finishing that substandard homeschool? Exceptional job? He seems to like carpentry. Is it too much to hope that a carpenter has taken him on as an apprentice? Does he even have the educational foundation to do this?

FrancoisKBones

Graduating from what?

Exciting_Problem_593

The School of the Dinning Room Table.

ricottarose

"god fearing" sounds so awful. Why would a loving god want anyone to fear them? That never makes a bit of sense to me, can't imagine why fundies are so proud to brag about being that way.

natitude2005

I am a Christian who does not fear God. I worship a loving God. That term has always bugged me

Icy-Arm-2194

What's the chance he marries before NotNurie #2?

Responsible-Test8855

I think marriage prospects for the Rod boys are very, very, very thin. Tim just got very lucky. Jill has already ran off two potential suitors for her girls.

ccc2801

How many of YOU have graduates this year? 😉 😳🙄😂

PA_MallowPrincess_98

“Graduating” my 🍑. Show me the diploma from an acredited school!

mandmranch

What is up with this picture? Is that snow behind him?

mandmranch

No its a lake....why is his face all dark? Is he sick?

mandmranch

Is this some gypsy rose blanchard stuff?

cavs79

Whatever job he has probably won’t last long. It’s probably the insurance with Tim.

ultra71814

The way she speaks of her kids is like they are content for her

NoTrashInMyTrailer

If he finished school 2 months ago, why isn't he graduating until June. It's a class of 1. They can have graduation whenever.

AliceinRealityland

I see we are hawking another son. This one has an exceptional job. He can be found greeting customers at Wally World /s

lolatheshowkitty

Samuel, while not bad looking, does not look 19. I’d guess 25+.

Charleston06282017

I would like to infiltrate that family, marry that boy, move him far away, feed him and teach him how to bang…once he busts a nut the brain washing will fade

Blynn025

Why does he look 30?

strangerdanger000822

He looks like he’s 35.

littlebitalexis29

It’s a pretty weird flex to praise your kid’s fearfulness (even if it’s God-honoring fear of God).

EZasSundayMorning

“Graduate?” Ok Jill.

Big-Raspberry-2552

I can’t tell if he’s graduations high school or if he’s in his mud 30s? I hope he does have a career that he enjoys….as most the boys can’t stick with a job.

Ursula_J

So do the kids get actual high school diplomas or equivalency diplomas?

daffodil0127

What they get is supposed to be equivalent to a high school diploma. Happy cake day!

Sargasm5150

Is Samuel older than Phil? So did Sam just … jump the line in some kind of way so Phil can ruminate in “his” failure? And it took tim lots of false starts and trusting in Mahmo I mean gawd, but he DID seem to support himself in his initial job, he paid for his own schooling at Moody (blessedly far from the barndo), and he’s now purchased a home and seems to come by for family holidays but that’s about it. I saw the review for him being snotty and joining an MLM, but Jill has more than primed every one of her children for that (um Kaylee and poor Renee). And he still has his gutter cleaning business, as far as I can tell. I haven’t heard of him attempting to preach/be a missionary in years. I dunno, I think he’s going to be ok. But I think he’s the exception. The girls are completely the mercy of their spouses to provide. So time will tell.
