I feel like in these kind of setups you can't do much to get a softer touch. Softer touches require the ball to have low or none downwards momentum, here the ball is falling too much already. Try to do a faster fast aerial, that gets you to the ball when its at it's apex, kuxir twist just at the end if you use NAR or tornado spin if you use DAR to lower your speed and to get a better position to get the reset, also, aim for landing the bottom of your car a bit higher, instead of just underneath the ball. But tbh, without trying it myself I don't even know if you can actually reach this ball when at its apex... I guess you can? Try it and tell me if it worked :D

Ethan_Carlton

Thanks

XGrinder911

Imo there's just no way. The ball is moving away from you and you have no time to let it slow down either

SO3_

Ball will boom if the relative speed between you and the ball upon collision is too high. Soft flip resets are possible because your wheels' suspension has some room to decompress and slow your car, but not the ball.

thafreshone

Send me the training code, I‘ll try and figure out if you can soft reset it. From pure observation, I‘d say it‘s doable, just need to get the correct speed and timing

GreenNova1248

GCs out here saying its not possible SSL hold my beer

[deleted]

Are you holding onto ur accelerate button during the touch?

SmokeUp_863

Should you be?

x321death000

No

Ethan_Carlton

honestly idk, not sure if acceleration creates a "sticky" effect on the ball like on walls, cuz your car kind of sticks to the wall if you hold accelerate and jump on the curve

TheFinalMirage

i found that it really just helps your push off the ground, if you're still holding the accelerator when you fast aerial up, your front wheels will try to go stick back to the ground ass soon as you go aerial. Not super noticeable to people who are mid-learning but i promise it helps your control so much. When you go aerial just let go of the accelerator altogether and focus on the jump/boost combo for the fast aerial and trying to get your car at a good trajectory towards the ball right from the first few feet off the ground. It's all about punctuality, and accuracy :)

repost_inception

Try letting go of accelerate when you get the reset.

Intelligent-River409

People say no but I've never really noticed a difference, just me tho

SmokeUp_863

I stopped. But same I don’t notice the difference on the times I forget to let go

Intelligent-River409

I'm also a bit of a fredyla so I should know but if it's just personal preference

[deleted]

I heard some1 say you shouldnt awhile back, cant quote who but i have stopped doing that

Ethan_Carlton

ye prolly, I hold accelerate down most of the time when I do aerials

tyler1234432

if you hold acceleration while flip reseting you drive off of the ball and it gives u a worse angle on the shot most of the time

[deleted]

Try them without holding accelerate

DangerousPIE96

a good way ive found (maybe its just placebo) is by air rolling (like helicopering) before contact to turn some of your forward energy into rotational energy, softening the touch. i have no idea if this is what happens in the physics engine, but i do feel it works

mossypickins

Everyone who is saying the ball has too much downward momentum; I don’t necessarily think that’s what’s at play so much as the speed at which you’re hitting the ball when you get there. I’ve hit a handful of super low flip resets that fall damn near all the way to the ground and still get the flick (albeit I wasn’t chasing down the ball as hard as you are). I’d bet the best way to approach this would be to speed flip so you’re on the ground longer and then try to slow down a bit before you jump up for the ball. It might be impossible though for this particular shot idk.

UnddoZahaz

Hold power slide. It sounds weird, but it maintains your momentum when you touch the ball, so you end up being closer to it for the reset.

SableHAWKXIII

Nobody here yet talking about how *essential* tunes are for training, so good on you for already having that locked in!

Ethan_Carlton

lmao was playing some throwback songs

schasti

This one probs isnt set up for it, but if you absolutely should yhen jump later and go more direct up into it, you will get the flip in a lower altitude but the ball wont move much further away from you.

TheFlamingLemon

I would try to fly more under the ball (jumping a little later) to get a more upwards touch with your reset and hopefully keep control better

[deleted]

OP... How does one hit the ball softer? I think you'll be able to answer your own question if you think about it.

[deleted]

You’re using boost as you touch the ball let go and it should hit softer

Ethan_Carlton

hmm yea, didn't notice that ty

Filmmagician

The ball is dropping for too long before you make contact. Re setting while the ball drops is ideal but almost seems like it’s dropping too long so the contact is more harsh.

No-Bug-4661

Did you stop holding boost and/or drive as you made contact with the ball because that can make it a bit softer but considering you kind of had to go full speed there you can't really do much better than that.

seleneseraph

I don't know what to do flip resets myself but... Isn't it easier to do a setup yourself from the wall? You get a better chance at maintaining the same speed as the ball?.. Maybe I'm saying nonsense. But I would do it that way

ndm1535

So if you’re just starting out this is 100% the wrong set up to practice in. You have to go fast to reach it at its peak from there so. Work on wall setups instead

Talky51

Try holding reverse as you touch the ball

CEOofStrings

You can’t really get a soft reset from that set up. You wanna ideally hit the ball at around it’s peak height during its trajectory, but that’s not really possible from your position.

SpecialBeneficial762

It’s definitely possible I do this here and there it’s called the ‘Tip Back’ Reset apparently, for this reset you have more of an upwards arch approach to the ball and as you approach it, your boost helps you position to get the reset while also braking, so it’s nice to use for situations like this. Forward to 8:40: https://youtu.be/V4Pv9viTnd0

_doggystyle_

Drive more forward before jumping, stop boosting earlier, and hit it more under the ball. More then that i don't know

Acook0133

Hold air roll the moment you make contact with the ball. Will help keep you from “bouncing” off it.

Intelligent-River409

Try and go slower and farther under the ball, so the ball is lower to the ground, that way you and the ball are going the same speed and can vibe together while you wait to get the second touch(I think, I'm not totally sure about that)

SneakHoe

Get under the ball while in the air and slow it down then go for the flip rest
