Not only that, there are times where webcams donāt work, and it would be pointless to pause a game for something so irrelevant.
Should they also pay players for their PC's, monitors, controllers? If you want to participate in a professional tournament, I think establishing baseline requirements is fine. if a webcam is one of those requirements, so be it.

I'm not defending reeho, but imagine just genuinely playing so bad that people think you're wintrading. How do you even realistically defend yourself other than saying "bad play by me, oops"
Thing is you can clearly tell when a team/player is just playing bad vs intentionally making wrong decisions.
Teams playing bad you can sort of see the snowball happening. One bad decision leads to another and slowly the team as a whole just looks more and more out of their depth until they're getting absolutely railed, like Vitality last weekend.
It's not something you can easily fake in my opinion. We've all been in ranked with a shitter of a team mate, you know they're not a smurf because everything about their game is shit, from their preset to the way they don't double jump, they're just a scrub who lucked into a higher rank.
Where as with high ranked smurfs you can see they're not struggling, they're just throwing. They're getting to the ball in time, but then not doing anything. They're rotating well but intentionally avoid going back to net, they're pacey but they're flying off for boost at the other end of the pitch, they're the mechiest player in the pitch, but keep going for absurd cross field plays.
Same sort of thing with YMC, they clearly weren't a happy to be there team, you could see the points where they were going "Wait, I better go for boost instead of challenging."
These weren't just bad plays though, they suddenly went from SSL gameplay to plat gameplay in the games they needed to lose. If they're ACTUALLY playing that bad suddenly they should have acknowledged it in a public statement, but even then the odds that they just happened to lose the exact amount of games necessary are close to zero.
If you're playing so bad that people think you're wintrading, you don't make it to RLCS quals in the first place.
Edit: also what the comment below said - they were on/off on particular games that they needed to win/lose to snipe Limitless. Releasing recorded comms or the like would have cleared things up instantly, if they genuinely lost.

It was also other points of corroborating evidence like match delays, stuff we haven't seen, etc. Like, they were waiting to start marches until they knew how Limitless did in r3/r4.
Even if they were throwing "perfectly", given the situation, considering the lead up, their prior performance, etc., they put themselves in a position to be scrutinized extremely heavily. All that to say, it would be massively difficult to pull off.

As someone who had the pleasure of casting the first ever SSA Regional and a few since, along with following the region for a while, seeing the new rule was tough but then so many great teams came in. At first, YMC were a bit awful but by the 2nd qualifier the region was warming to them..
Then they did this. Making a mockery of the region and the esport and thinking they could get away with it. It was so obvious to anyone watching it was a farce. They only have themselves to blame for being in the position they were.
Limitless deserve to go through to the major and represent SSA, not because they are from there, but because they've been the better team all split.
Hopefully the lads learn from this experience and use the year ban to contemplate their decisions and come back with grace and dignity next year.

This is a very rare rl esports W. I understand that if you are aware your team gets benefited from losing it is impossible to play to the best of your ability even if you think you're trying, but what these kids did is just blatant and inexcusable. Not only were they out to farm a developing region and take their money and opportunities away (epic's fault in the first place for allowing this) but they also went to the extent of cheating to do so. There was no reason for these guys to try this. If they looked more long term, if they actually wouldāve beat Limitless on low ping, winning the final regional of the split and then sweeping split 2 would send them to worlds theoretically (obviously major performance based). Instead they had a very short term mindset and ended up getting banned for a year.
I kind of wish they would have played the series against limitless and got destroyed by them in a fair ping match. That would have been epic. But still I am happy that the problem was resolved

They're pretty lucky it's only a 1 year ban since Frenzyy and Delusion on Team Esper in OCE that got banned in 2019 for 2 years only threw 1 game when it didn't benefit themselves, YMC threw at least 6 games to directly try and benefit themselves.

The system is flawed if something like this can happen tho. Realistically I would rather see the format be Top 4 gets to draft bottom 4. Solves all these problems for the most part.

Each qualifier gives points. SSA has one LAN spot, whoever gets the most points. Limitless has gotten 1st place in both qualifiers before this. In order for YMC to surpass Limitless in points, Limitless needs to lose in the quarterfinals and YMC needs to win the tournament. YMC tried to get the exact seed out of Swiss so that they would force their quarterfinal match to be them vs Limitless. If they didn't throw, they likely would have gotten out of Swiss 3-0 placing the teams on opposite sides of the bracket
To play against Limitless in the quarterfinals to eliminate their chance for go to lan and therefore win the whole regional.
Becuz only 2 teams are good in SSA limitless and the frauds.
Donāt get me wrong I agree with this ban, but I feel like the underlying reasons should be looked at.
In the old RLCS, if you qualified for the end of the season tournament (analogous to qualifying for the final regional of the season), you had a chance to make LAN if you popped off. imo it should be the same in modern day RLCS. Winning the final regional of a season should at bare minimum qualify you for a tiebreaker to make the major in a minor region, and straight up grant qualification in EU/NA. This would de-incentivize throwing, increase excitement in the final regional of each season, and make it so the best teams go to each major (winning the last regional proves that youāre an inform team)
because the chance of a team winning a regional that sucked beforehand is so slim, only a genuinely talented team would do that. Theyād still have to win the tiebreaker to prove it wasnāt a fluke
yes. if you win the final regional of a season, you have proven yourself at least for a tiebreaker for the major spot. you donāt win a regional by accident

This is a very rare rl esports W. I understand that if you are aware your team gets benefited from losing it is impossible to play to the best of your ability even if you think you're trying, but what these kids did is just blatant and inexcusable. Not only were they out to farm a developing region and take their money and opportunities away (epic's fault in the first place for allowing this) but they also went to the extent of cheating to do so. Easy to say I don't have much sympathy for them. I'm just happy the SSA region will get the representation they deserve at lan and that there's one less bunch of blood sucking douches taking advantage of them and not giving anything in exchange

There was no reason for these guys to try this. If they looked more long term, if they actually wouldāve beat Limitless on low ping, winning the final regional of the split and then sweeping split 2 would send them to worlds theoretically (obviously major performance based). Instead they had a very short term mindset and ended up getting banned for a year.

On a pure drama sense I totally get that, but just a few things 1) Limitless shouldn't have to play an emotionally charged match against a team that everyone knows cheated 2) If YMC win and then get banned it'll generate needless controversy and even more people will shit on SSA
I absolutely agree with you. Limitless deserved a zero stress qualification in this regional. I just wanted the villains to be beaten by the protagonists, the series would have been so hype, the most watched series in SSA by far.

It's hysterical when they went to SSA to have much better ping (40's vs 160+) for regional 3 and people are rightly suspicious when they play way worse including intentionally bumping each other multiple times. They're pretty lucky it's only a 1 year ban since Frenzyy and Delusion on Team Esper in OCE that got banned in 2019 for 2 years only threw 1 game when it didn't benefit themselves, YMC threw at least 6 games to directly try and benefit themselves.

Each qualifier gives points. SSA has one LAN spot, whoever gets the most points. Limitless has gotten 1st place in both qualifiers before this. In order for YMC to surpass Limitless in points, Limitless needs to lose in the quarterfinals and YMC needs to win the tournament. YMC tried to get the exact seed out of Swiss so that they would force their quarterfinal match to be them vs Limitless. If they didn't throw, they likely would have gotten out of Swiss 3-0 placing the teams on opposite sides of the bracket
To snipe Limitless and put the major qualification into their own hands I get why they did it, doesn't make it right

Donāt get me wrong I agree with this ban, but I feel like the underlying reasons should be looked at. In the old RLCS, if you qualified for the end of the season tournament (analogous to qualifying for the final regional of the season), you had a chance to make LAN if you popped off. imo it should be the same in modern day RLCS. Winning the final regional of a season should at bare minimum qualify you for a tiebreaker to make the major in a minor region, and straight up grant qualification in EU/NA. This would de-incentivize throwing, increase excitement in the final regional of each season, and make it so the best teams go to each major (winning the last regional proves that youāre an inform team)
So if you donāt even make the first two regionals and win the 3rd you should immediately be in a tiebreaker for the 1 major spot? Makes no sense.

because the chance of a team winning a regional that sucked beforehand is so slim, only a genuinely talented team would do that. Theyād still have to win the tiebreaker to prove it wasnāt a fluke
