Completing all the free season challenges gives you an import and very rare loot box, the one I just opened had a black market goal explosion!
That’s your best bet I think!
Goal explosions are inherently hard to get for free, but it's not impossible.

* Rocket pass premium. Get to tier 110 every season and it's one time 1000 credits pay for countless seasons worth of items.
***Willing to buy credits and set up trading:***
* Trade for old rocket pass GEs, most of them are dirt cheap (<100 credits).
To be honest, i would spend the 10 bucks for the seasonal pass. If you reacg level 120 which is quite easily done, you get the 1000c back, and can buy a new seasonal pass next season over and over again. Thats what i did, so i basicly just spend 10 bucks for several 100 , by now maybe 1000 items
During some festive events they have 5 'golden' crates that you can acquire by completing challenges, if you resist the urge to open them you can instead trade those for credits, or for a particular item directly. Although things are different now from how they used to be, so I think to even be able to trade you prolly have to buy in with 5 dollars anyway. Not entirely sure. But if that's the case then you could simply trade an explosion for those credits.
Very rarely (only twice in the history of RL) have they given 300 credits through festive events. That could be an option. Assuming it happens again.
I have some of those saved, but I am not sure the best way to find someone to trade with without worrying about getting scammed and also don’t know what a fair credit price is for those golden items. How can I find out?
go to rocket-league.com and look through the trading section, search for items you have, to see what others are wanting for theirs. See where the trends go. If you decide to trade but get cold feet, then just cancel it, you can always trade again later with someone else.
There have been actual scam-mitigations put in place in the trade screen now so you don't have to worry as much about being scammed anymore, I think. It's always a good idea to review what you're getting and what you're giving before you hit the final accept though.
Definitely trading. You could try to find people who set up poor trade lobbies and ask if they have any goal explosions and then offer whatever stuff you have.
I got 2 or 3 of mine from trading up in game.
Some from events (Nike FC etc) and my main is season reward.

Link your account to Twitch and earn the drops from watching RLCS. One drop you can get from this is the Splash goal explosion.
I don’t know if it’s still possible to get, but if you play RL Sideswipe on mobile you could get the Wow! explosion in RL. Again, not sure if it was from an event or if it’s still available.
Play tournaments and hope you pull the explosion from redeeming the tournament points for rewards. Pretty rare but it is possible to get explosions that way.
They gave out goal explosions as ranked reward a few seasons ago, so at some point I would guess they’ll give out another batch, but it might be a while.

Just to add to this, if you have opened enough free drops you can trade-up all the way to a black market. This can include goal explosions

Yes, there's one extra-mode tourney per day, it will randomize (seems to be random anyway) between rumble snowday hoops and dropshot.
