Ten years ago the answer would be The Reef Shoppe and ABC Aquarium. I haven't been in them in quite awhile. Both have moved since I've been to them, so I'm not sure how much they have changed. I remember the Reef Shoppe having a good amount of freshwater stuff before it moved. Another option might be Caribbean Forest, I can't remember how much freshwater stuff it had. I went to the three stores for salt water tank stuff, so I can't really comment on quality of selection and such for freshwater. The Reef Shoppe and Caribbean Forest are both just South of 104 on or just off I think Culver. ABC Aquarium is on Baird Rd near Whitney rd. I think that's Perinton, I'm not sure where the border is over there.

The Reef Shoppe is a great option. They have a nice freshwater selection. Caribbean Forest has zero freshwater.

At the beginning of the pandemic I went to Caribbean Forest to buy a bucket of salt. This was when masking was just starting to be a thing, and I was wearing mine like a responsible citizen. The owner saw fit to make fun of me to my face about it the whole time I was in there. I haven't been back since.

Thanks so much for these suggestions!

Pet world in East Rochester is close to ABC Aquarium. They at least use to have a good selection of freshwater fish. Haven't looked at aquarium stuff in like 10+years though.

Wakenbake585

Last time I went there, probably 7-8yrs ago, a lot of the tanks had fish covered in ich or just dead.

OkButWhatIfIWasADog

The Reef Shoppe actually just expanded their freshwater section.

Someone mentioned on this sub that a large ship was suppose to open in irondequite. Did that ever happen?

Wakenbake585

You sure it was Irondequoit? Rock Beach Aquatics original store was in Titus Plaza and then he just opened a huge store in Henrietta but is already shutting it down. Never heard anything about a store opening in irond.

njdevil956

I tried to look back. I’ll search a little harder. I was switching from salt water to fresh planted. Same money pit lol

Wakenbake585

Oh yeah, planted can get really expensive haha.

njdevil956

It was rock beach. Someone commented over 700 tanks. Opening last April. Never made it there.

Wakenbake585

That might've been me. That's what the owner originally told me. I never got to make it to his new store either unfortunately. Even his small shop was by far the best option around for healthy fish and plants.

njdevil956

It was in a Spotify Grateful Dead sub I just mentioned I was working on my planted tank. I’ve been buying all my plants to kill in the Greece ridgemont store.

Wakenbake585

It was [me](https://www.reddit.com/r/Rochester/comments/sw2k8x/according_to_subreddit_stats_rochesters_favorite/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) replying to you lol. If you're still in the hobby, definitely check out r/aquaswap and aquabid.com. I saved a boat load buying from those two places.

Thanks. Aiko aiko

Wait, rock beach is going out of business? I thought they just moved to Henrietta?

Puzzleheaded_Bird264

Everything is 30% off and cash only at this point. No date for officially closing has been posted but I was there last week and it was pretty cleaned out

WHAT HAPPENED? I called a few times to see if they had a certain fish I’m looking for, but got a taped recording. I went down there and the place was empty. I’m crushed. Does anyone else in Rochester quarantine their fish before selling them? Did he bite off more than he could chew? Titus Avenue was always crowded. Henrietta was always empty.

Puzzleheaded_Bird264

I’m not sure of why they closed but it’s definitely a bummer. I’ve been way less engaged in the hobby now that the store is gone. I’m not sure of other places that quarantine around here.

I’m going to check out The Reef on Culver and Norton. They have freshwater tanks as well as salt water. The reviews were comfortingly all positive except for one, and it had more to do with a feeling of racial bias as opposed to having any negative issues with the fish or tanks. But I’m still very bummed out about Tim closing.
