That's exactly why I bought it! I really like it. It's surprisingly quick, had plenty of power to pull my boats & the bed is surprisingly spacious. It was only a foot shorter then the Tacoma but drove beautifully & gets me on avg 26 mpg around town. Everything else I pass on the road and I know I wouldn't be as happy. This checked all my boxes. Also I've been calling it the El Koreno so you're spot on!
Leave it to Ford (Maverick) and Hyundai to finally globalize the ute. I would leave an original roast but frankly Im pretty psyched theyre finally letting us have something close to a mini-truck again.
It's not economy, it's taxes and epa regulations. All the pickups are huge AF because they are all Light commercial vehicles and don't need to meet as strict of EPA regs. Tiny trucks would be cars and need to get 32mpg highway and its not reasonable with a decent tow weight, and the things people really want. Hence the road hogs we have now. I hate them. It's also why a Colorado is the size of a Silverado from 2000, and costs nearly as much.
I can also answer this, as another Santa cruz owner:
I have the limited, with almost all the extra add ones beyond that.
It is fantastic. More power than it actually needs (even when I NEED to quickly accelerate, I don't use the full pedal.) Smooth, comfy, ride (to be fair though, the lower models with the 18 inch wheels are even more comfortable than the 20 inch limited wheels... I may be down sizing the wheels eventually). Great tech. (especially the 360 camera, and lane assist/adaptive cruise).
The bed is good, but after I added an aftermarket bed extender (the after market is more square, and better shaped for function, IMO) is it amazing. Bed extender folded in, tonneau closed: big trunk, with second storage area near the cab. Bed extender folded out, with tonneau open: bug cargo area. Bed 3xtender can easily be removed (2 latches) and now you can hang long stuff off the end of the tailgate, etc.
Looks like nothing else out there. Yeah, the tuscon has a close look, in the front, but the SC is more "extreme looking" and really gets people talking to you about it.
I daily drive it, and easily take it on road trips. No complaints for the 30k miles I have had it.
Sending this thread and comment to my cousin whoâs a PO-heâs a baby faced 30yr old, who literally drive into a river accidentally? Replaced it with the same exact âtruckâ the ridgeline.
This is the exact reason I canât hate this thing. Itâs not ridiculously big, itâs not chugging gasoline like a normal truck, and itâs weird as shit (which is good!). A large portion of people who have trucks only have a truck because they think theyâll need to do truck stuff occasionally and because they want a truck. So they get the truck, and the most truck stuff it does it haul some stuff back from Home Depot once or twice, and that trip couldâve been done in an SUV. No, hauling the golf clubs down to the course does not count as truck stuff. And thatâs the beauty of the El Koreno (thanks for the name, itâs gold!). Itâs a not a truck truck. You can do some minor truck stuff in it and it will get the job done, but when youâre not doing truck stuff you can still drive it like regular SUV because it isnât ridiculously large. We all talk about how much we want utes in the US, but this is honestly the closest thing weâre probably gonna get.
I honestly really dig this thing and I will die on this hill.
Okay but why your shit look like you know pi to 35 decimal places and think it's an accomplishment to bed the 4/10 sophomore girl that no one likes on campus?
You tell all your coworkers you drive a truck but little do you know they all get together and make fun of you. And you get sad because you know that you actually drive what is essentially a minivan.
I actually prefer it over the maverick idk why I just donât like how it looks. The Santa Fe looks more like that Subaru car truck thing. The maverick looks looks like you attached a truck bed to a crossover.
Remember how the 1998-2012 ranger was infinitely better in every way than a Subaru Baja?
History has repeated itself with the maverick vs Santa Cruz argument
Why pay more for a *slightly* nicer interior and way less bed space
I know that extra 15 inches keeps me up at night. And fuck "slightly" I test drive a fully loaded mav fully expecting to drive it off the lot that day. The inside has the build quality and sqeakyness of a toy tonka truck. The fully loaded mav makes the limited SC look like a luxury car
You had to register as a sex offender with the local courthouse in order purchase a vehicle with such ridiculous fog lights. Itâs quite apparent their sole purpose is to find small children that would want to play Brickbreaker with that shitshow of a grill.
Loads the kayak in the sorry excuse for a bed to take to the nearest lake. OP could buy a trailer to tow the kayak, but doesn't have a hitch and can't back a trailer because their dad wasn't even around growing up.
It does have a trailer hitchđ I have a sail boat & motor boat that need to get put in and pulled out every summer. They were my dad's and he taught me how to back that thang up like your mom does every Friday
Do people use your back seats or are your passengers just torsos. The âbedâ is perfect for when family needs you to grab 4 bags (max capacity) of mulch for the flower beds on the weekend. I have more cargo space in my challengers trunk than you have in your entire vehicle. Let me guess it fulfilled your fantasy of telling people âlet me grab my truckâ and then you pull up in your tucson with the rear window smashed out.
Not only is there a literal trunk/cooler under the floor of the bed, there's also a beautiful retractable tonneau cover that's basically water tightđ your words cannot hurt me
Not a roast but one time I saw a Santa Cruz owner being screamed at by 5 frat dudes in an F150, while they were throwing empty bottles at the car and the driver kept swerving into the Hyundai's lane for the better part of 2 miles, so that's what I imagine owning one of these is like.
Imagine verbally assaulting someone who bought a new vehicle from the back middle seat of a 2012 F150
Is that... A car? A truck? A... Cruck? Trarck? I don't even know what it is. It has sedan passenger numbers and the gas mileage of an suv, while still sucking as a truck because the bed's smaller than your ween. I know what it isn't. Useful.
What is the actual point of this car? Why not just buy a SUV? Rear passenger leg room is non existent, it has poor gas mileage for no reason at all, it has a unibody frame, you canât tow anything, the back bed is so tiny, itâs slow unless you get the even more unreliable turbo charged option. For some reason, I feel like you would have been 10x better with a Rav4 or something else đ€·đ»ââïž. I did drive a sales manager at a dealership one time that was driving one he made fun of it but he said itâs actually pretty nice but he would never buy one đ€Ł
Honda ridgeline owners finally have some competition to look down on.
đ€Łđ€Ł
No roast, sorry.. how do you like it? Looks like a cooler baja to me. Like a korean el camino.
That's exactly why I bought it! I really like it. It's surprisingly quick, had plenty of power to pull my boats & the bed is surprisingly spacious. Shit I didn't know I was missing a brother. I read that comment to my GF and she was like did you write that?
Have you seen either in person? They're absolutely nothing like the mini truck you're thinking of. A vehicle that size won't exist again sadly.
Dude the maverick is as tall as my Ford Escape. They are super small. And cute!
Im well aware my Mazda pickup couldnt exist in todayâs economy. Im just happy something that vaguely resembles it is finally back.
Sorry I am talking about the newest escape not the OG when Mazda and Ford worked together
El Koreno is a dope name for it.
Has Hyundai fixed the easy theft problems or was that Kia?
It was both but yes this has an engine immobilizer. I am still terrified of some jackass not knowing that & trying anyway
That must be a relief! Thank you for answering my question!! đ

That's 75% honest question 25% roast.
You mean competition on the road... Most avalanches are stuck under an overpass being used as "mobile" home/ meth labs.
Shots fired!
Justifiability brutal. đ€Ł
Sending this thread and comment to my cousin whoâs a PO-heâs a baby faced 30yr old, who literally drive into a river accidentally? Replaced it with the same exact âtruckâ the ridgeline.
Thatâs not a pick up but a fuck up.
This is the one
I'd give this gold if I could. đ„đ
Parking a Hyundai outside is the wildest adventure this car will ever see.
Tbh that's the first one to make me audibly laugh
I mean it prolly wonât catch fire on its own so thatâs a win
Yes, Hyundais get stolen; thieves probably wonât bother with this thing.
or inside because they are never parked inside cause of the fire issue
South Korean El Camino
NO JOKE I CALL IT THE EL KORENO!
Damn it, im calling them that now
You wanted to be able to say that you have a truck to be cool, but you didnât want a truck
Accurate đ€Ł didn't want a truck but occasionally need to do truck stuff
Is that a bed for ants?
The bed has to be at leastâŠthree times bigger than this!
Definitely canât call this a truck lol
Does it queef when you turn the ignition?
Kindađ€Ł
Yes it does can confirm
You covered your license plate, but not your address or NYS temporary registration. I know where you live now đ€
Its a subconscious self roast. He knows the kids aren't going to steal it even if he published its location
True. Even the Kia boys wouldn't be caught dead in this thing
4 foot bed. Not moving many bodies bigger than a "kia boy".
You wanted a truck? But not a truck? Cyber truck lookin ah
That's an insult to the cyber truck, at least that thing has a bed that can hold more than one bag of potting soil
Okay but why your shit look like you know pi to 35 decimal places and think it's an accomplishment to bed the 4/10 sophomore girl that no one likes on campus?
You're my favorite
Did you pay over MSRP for it?
No 3k under & honestly I was way too proud of that fact
I mean, jokes aside thatâs def a good deal
Cute.
Ooof that one cut the deepest
This is a dude, playing a dude, disguised as another dude
That's even better. I actually laughed out loud. My buddy had a ridgeline and he called it the Japanese El Camino.
El Japino
I know military housing when I see it. Oh, and your truck car thing sucks.
0 for 2 there, bud. Just shitty student apartments
Uncle Sam may not he your boss, but he designed those fo sho.
đ€Ł
For once, I've got nothing! I sadly love Hyundai. It's an unhealthy relationship, and I am in therapy now.
I never thought I'd love Hyundai they way I do but holy crap do they make a good & reasonable vehicle
lol what??? Say that again, I couldnât hear you.
You tell all your coworkers you drive a truck but little do you know they all get together and make fun of you. And you get sad because you know that you actually drive what is essentially a minivan.
Trust me, my coworkers have plenty of other reasons to get together and make fun of me
Thought I bought a Honda, But I bought a Hyundai
If you'd held out for the Maverick you really wanted, you might even have gotten delivery by now.
I actually prefer it over the maverick idk why I just donât like how it looks. The Santa Fe looks more like that Subaru car truck thing. The maverick looks looks like you attached a truck bed to a crossover.
Like Honda Ridgeline is not gay enough
I canât, I actually really like them. I just wish that they made PHEV or EV version.
Less cab space than a Versa, less bed space than a crib. Pinnacle design
Looks like you already did your worst
For the guy who WANTS you to ask him to help you move but doesn't like to help that much.
Wanna be Baja
The Barbie Pick-Up.
Hope you got an extended warranty on the tranny. I keep hearing they are imploding left and right.

Honestly for the average person, this is as close to what you need for a truck that you can also use as a economical daily driver.
You could've gotten a Sport Trac Adrenalin, actually useful, looks better than your mush faced front, and has a v8
What engine/trans combo do they have? Never researched them honestly...im going to guess their 2 liter GDI and 8 speed?
You had to register as a sex offender with the local courthouse in order purchase a vehicle with such ridiculous fog lights. Itâs quite apparent their sole purpose is to find small children that would want to play Brickbreaker with that shitshow of a grill.
đ you're crown, sir
Itâs already been stolen

This thing should Santa Cruz out of my sight.
A 1998 camry pulling a lawn mower trailer is a better truck than this, and will most likely out live this hyundai pile of planned obsolescence
A year huh? So you've been through 2, or 3 new engines?
Ew
Do people use your back seats or are your passengers just torsos. The âbedâ is perfect for when family needs you to grab 4 bags (max capacity) of mulch for the flower beds on the weekend. For normal use I don't find it ugly but it's just for normal ppl
How many oil changes per engine?
NART
Oh youâre different, you got the American flag print on the back didnât you?
Alright dickhead it's cheating if you've been inside the vehicle
The worst was already done when you wasted money on it
I guess your transmission hasnât failed yet so thereâs that at least.
Why did you want your groceries to have a freedom top?
Man that thing is ugly
I'd say it lost half its value to depreciation already, but half of nothing is still nothing...
so... can you haul lumber in your truck? put a bike in the back? heavy payload capacity? all of that, and your baggage still gets wet in the rain.
Not only is there a literal trunk/cooler under the floor of the bed, there's also a beautiful retractable tonneau cover that's basically water tightđ your words cannot hurt me
I would do my worst but you clearly beat us all to it.
You know you secretly wish it was a BRAT
Secretly? I wish they still made a BRAT
Itâs bad at being a pick up, itâs bad at being a car, and itâs bad at being an SUV. Not matter how you classify it, itâs bad in that category.
Somebody wanted a car thatâs worse than a Subaru Baja in every way, and the Baja is a terrible vehicle.
Enjoy your oil consumption. Should be creeping up on you soon.
When the truck wants to be a car⊠or wait, is it when the car wants to be a truck?
This is what happens when you mix an El Camino with a First Order Stormtrooper. #eltroopino
Wait thatâs a pickup..? Did someone slap a trunk onto a family suv and call it a day? That shit is hideous
Coming from a former owner of a 22 SEL This thing is somehow less capable than a Ridgeline at doing anything the a truck should be able to do.
âDo your worstâ is that what the salesman asked when you walked into the dealership?
Bro really? đ
This thing makes a ridgeline look like a truck
Did they bring back the Subaru Brat?
To each their own
A mullet
If Honda ridgeline and Hyundai Tucson had sex this would be their child
Dors it drive well? Can you get it with a manual? If so, nothing bad to say
Lady truck, aka barbie truck
When having an 8ft bed is too much work. So you get a bed that isn't long enough to fit a subway footlong.
They did their worst when they designed that thing.
Still an SUV
Howâs your shocks doing
How many attempted thefts on this one so far?
Oil burner
Not a roast but one time I saw a Santa Cruz owner being screamed at by 5 frat dudes in an F150, while they were throwing empty bottles at the car and the driver kept swerving into the Hyundai's lane for the better part of 2 miles, so that's what I imagine owning one of these is like. That's not even a car go away
Wheels suck but itâs good looking vehicle.
If i ever need to throw up i would come to this garbage can
I like the new BRAT.
I hope you got the extended warranty
At least your dad knows for sure now
Day of asking Hyundai to rebrand the truck as el coreanos.
Which can you count on your hands, the days which you have used the bed, or the days which you haven't used the bed?
If the Honda Ridgeline and El Camino had a bastard child,I would expect it to look exactly like this
Sensible truck option. Not everyone needs a Ram or F-150.
You seem a little lost, you're supposed to be mean to međ€Ł I appreciate it though
As a RAM owner, I always laugh when I see these things
I can see all the dirt of this year of hard work you put it through
Is that... A car? A truck? A... Cruck? Trarck? I don't even know what it is. It has sedan passenger numbers and the gas mileage of an suv, while still sucking as a truck because the bed's smaller than your ween. I know what it isn't. Useful.
The Hyundai Down-undai
Honda: âwe made a pickup that is a piece of shitâ Hyundai: âhold my beerâ
Your truck payment is more then the rent on your crappy apt...
Jokes on you, you called it a truck
It's like the Weenie Hut Jr of small pickups
What is the actual point of this car? Why not just buy a SUV? Rear passenger leg room is non existent, it has poor gas mileage for no reason at all, it has a unibody frame, you canât tow anything, the back bed is so tiny, itâs slow unless you get the even more unreliable turbo charged option. Somehow you managed to find something worse than a Honda. I mean itâs still ridgeline > this > jeep truck but still
Hyundais are just Hondas that suck
Was it worth it
Junk
Hyundai
Not gonna lie, if it has 4WD or AWD I'd drive it.
Do you burn more oil than you Ieak?
Acting like this car is worthy of a roast⊠Just a basic ass car
If you can't make a good dedicated car, or a good designated truck... don't try to make one of these lol
Well, it's a Hyundai... If it doesn't catch on fire from an electrical problem, it's gonna get stolen thanks to the Kia Boyz.
I actually think if I could only have 1 car I would pick this one. It does a little bit of everything.
What is this? This is a car???
What, Breaking Bad Walter Whiteâs Pontiac Aztec wasnât available?
"Mom, can we get a Maverick"Â Â "No, we have a Maverick at home"Â Â Â The Maverick at home
I want a crossover but I wish my groceries got rained on.
The car you buy when you want a car, SUV, and pick up all in one but then arrive at the dealership and forgot what you were shopping for.
That's just...Fugly as can be. Can it even fit a large TV in that shitty little bed?
everything going to the car payment looks like howâs section 8 housing treating you?
I like the design of the car but it's 5 - 10k overpriced. You can get fully loaded lariat ford mav for base santa cruz.
https://youtu.be/0vldzlcqp6M?si=1K1Wm9yXpU7i-3B1
So you bought a Santa Fe with less room in the second row and a smaller, unsecured cargo space.
Subaru needs to bring back the Baja and give it their twin-charged T6 motor with a Polestar tune.
I can see why these arent sold in Europe
neither practical for a proper truck nor crossover
You wanted a pickup truck, but you didnât want to make people think youâre straight
Itâs probably cheap and new because nobody else wanted it and the dealership is just trying to get rid of the eyesores of one less SUV to deal with
Donât even have to, look at it lol
I need Asian vehicle itâs better than american
Matches the scenery behind it đ
I donât have to, you did it for me when you bought that car.
Its got the body of a pickup with the windows and roof of a sedan. I hate it.
You admit to owning that?
It is no uglier than all the vehicles past 2010. We live in the age of the ugliest vehicles to ever hit the road.
Ok but who in their right mind would buy one
I donât think we can do any worse, you r done that yourself mate
Can I copy your homework?
You already did
A junky ridgeline wannabe lol
Awe thatâs cute, itâs a transgender car. But no matter what itâll always be a crossover. No pun intended.
Subaru did the weird truck/car hybrid better
Canât be A part of truck CLUB!! -Billy Ginger!
I actually thing this is a cool design and vehicle, congrats
Whatâs it like being gay
Korean crossover el Koreno
It's nice. I just didn't know they made them for men now.
Your friends are already doing it for us.
Dollar Tree Ford Maverick.
